Returning player's questions about CV's.
Cadelanne replied to brutus007's topic in Aircraft Carriers
I think that CVs are a whine generator because they're both overperforming and underperforming very hard, depending the ships and situations they're facing. If you're an unprotected Amagi or a DD, sure you're gonna get mad at CVs because they're going to damage you or even kill you all alone without you being able to do much about it. On the other hand if you're a CV player facing a packed team where all BBs are Iowas and Montanas, with only 1 DD, you're gonna cry because there will be nothing you'll be able to do besides flying your planes back and forth. -
T6 can be a bit hard for the same reasons, however you can choose to go for an AS setup to negate the problem. At T7 and above, you have 2 fighters squads in your strike setup, which makes AS setup useless for US carriers. So basically yes the only real struggle against AS setup is at T5.

Ok I'll send some replays thanks for taking care

I'm always spamming the superstructure, but a few lucky shot apparts it doesn't deal damages. Targets aren't depleted as it does this both on full life or already damaged ships. Had a discussion on this forum asking people why my shot where doing no damage and they told me that HE can damage stuff when landing on part that has less of Caliber/6 armor. That's why I talked about "penetration" tho it's maybe not the right word.

I mostly shoot at cruisers. I gave up shooting at BBs since both AP and HE aren't penetrating, HE isn't starting fire either (probably cus not penetrating) so I mostly try cruiser and of course destroyers when they're close enough.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Cadelanne replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I really don't see why people are so concerned about those guns caliber. As soon as they perform OK, is it really relevent ? They could be labelled 283mm, 380mm, 52mm or 630mm, is it really a big deal if they're nor UP nor OP ? -
You sir are reading my mind (or my posts).
-
AS Bogue is OP because low tier small maps, however, your best bet to deal against him is to multitask and split your strike wing in order to avoid his fighters.
-
I think they should be buffed on high tier with more planes in reserve. Since now even isolated BBs will shred at least half of your strike wing when you attack them, you need some more planes in reserve. They also need more choices in commander skill tree and upgrades. For instance I think the whole commander skill tree is badly designed since it doesn't leave much reliable choices for any class, but it's even worse for CVs. AA should actually require teamplay. What makes CVs strong is that they're overpowered versus destroyers, however against most bigger ships they're not that much of a threat, especially US ones. Most isolated ships (exept DDs and IJN not AA built BBs) can defend themselves quite correctly versus carriers. Therefore, good teamplay and AA overlaping make them underperforming. I think that buffing dropped torp speed without lowering arming time (= bigger arming distance) would be a good idea. It would buff CVs against big ships, and nerf them versus destroyers, which is imho what's required atm. It's because at tier 6 Cleveland is the only ship with a strong AA. At higher tier every ship has a decent to utterly OP AA. At tier 6 and below AA should be buffed (and planes in reserve buffed accordingly).

Why AA DPS is higher than displayed in the port
Cadelanne replied to fnord_disc's topic in General Discussion
Your argument is invalid. We're not talking about history, science or realism, but about gameplay and balance. Besides that, imho the whole AA system needs a rework, as for now it can't be balanced as it doesn't really interact with the player. Since there's no play / counterplay do be done versus AA, it's just a number war happening in the computer and there's therefore no real balance to be found. Of course there's the manual AA, and CV pilot can manage to spend as little time as possible in AA aura but that's not a lot you can do. -
Duh ok when talking about game mode I was ofc talking about Domination vs Bastion vs Whatever. Sorry about that But yeah that's how they could add content without spending months creating ship lines. Let us blow up / defend a bunker, or a convoy. Could be very interesting to add multi-stage objectives. Add new tactical options, like choosing where you spawn (in a spawn zone ofc). Adding new consumables, like something that would boost the RoF on BBs, something that would strengten planes HP on CVs, or something that would buff CA fire chance ... stuff like that. Of course, new maps (good ones please). There's a lot of things WG can do to improve / tweak the gameplay and add content without adding tons of ships.

How is anyone supposed to get past T6-7 at the moment?
Cadelanne replied to simonmd's topic in Archive
Don't worry you've just been unlucky Sometimes MM wreck you, getting you mostly bottom tier and that's quite frustrating, but it doesn't last forever and on the long go it's pretty balanced. However I agree that they should set the MM to +1/-1. Would easily solve this problem. -
Not much to say about it. I think it would be legit / logic to have something flashing, letting the CV know when a cruiser has enabled his defensive fire without frenetically pressing the alt key. The clearer the better
-
Premium ships .... :3
-
Ok maybe I'm wrong but for me it goes like this 1 - MM match people together regarding their ships etc. 2 - MM choose a map and a game mode. Isn't it working like this ? If so how adding more game modes would cause issues with people finding games ?
-
Doesn't look like there's any Bogue game on your profile but why not. Anyway, not going to talk about balance, it has just nothing to do with UI. Btw, forget to say that when AA defensive fire is enabled you can see that AA guns are shooting faster and in any direction. An icon would just be clearer. If you really think this would be a "cruiser nerf" you should either stop being a cv hater, or quit being paranoid.
-
Because every potent CV player already spam alt to know when a cruiser enter AA defensive fire. The icon would just make the whole thing more comfortable. But let me guess, you didn't knew that right ? Because of course you never ever played CV, right ? Maybe you don't know what the alt button does, and maybe you have no idea on how CV UI looks ? *sigh* why am I bothering answering to a troll anyway ....
-
You mean that they don't like it as it is right now ?
-
As far as I know it dropped under 3% at tier 9 / 10. Isn't it low enough ?
-
New content isn't always new ship lines. I don't know why people are so focused on that. WG can add a very entertaining content without adding ships. New challenging game modes and maps for instance, would infact add much more to overall gameplay than new ships. New commander trees & abilities could also tweak the gameplay a lot.
-
Are you really taunting about balance on a topic talking about UI improvement ? Seriously, go home ur drunk.
-
Sometimes you don't have much better to do. When you won and gained air superiority, but that ennemy fleet is packed without really isolated targets everything you can do with your strike wing is go for the CV.
-
Some tips here : - Don't be too focused on what YOU are doing. You've got an overall view of the battle and what's happening, so use this to your team advantage and try to communicate. Your biggest force (and what makes me love CVs) is that you can be anywhere on the map faster than any other shipclass, so use this feature ! - Multitask harder. Don't commit either only on your strike force or only on your fighters. With a bit of concentration you can achieve a very good control of every squad. Again, you can be anywhere so don't waste this ability. - Don't be greedy. Be patient, don't run into those 5 packed US boats. It's useless. If you don't have any strike avalaible, either take down DDs if possible, or go for the ennemy CV. Even if you can't strike him properly, he'll be spotted and all it takes is 2 BB salvos. Bait AA barrage. When approaching your planes average cruisers pilots will pannic and waste their AA barrage. Tough be careful vs strong AA boat such as Des Moines, Kutuzov or Donskoi as you could lose much more planes than you'd expect. - Versus stronger AA boats, use your divebombers to tank AA. Some pilots will use their ctrl + click to target your TBs but must won't. If they don't, you'll be guaranteed to have every torp in the water. It's not always worth it, as it doesn't allow you to time attack unless you're in a high tier CV. In the end, just keep in mind that what you absolutely need to be good as a CV is game sense and intelligence. The more intelligent you are, the better you'll do. Very few mechanics involved.
-
Shouldn't they buff this skill ? Since recent AA changes, the only thing I've found to avoid being all-killed by AA is to drop from a longer range. If it's the only way you can drop with decent casualties so maybe they should buff it a bit, one way or an other ?
-
Since CVs seem to never to balanced how about removing them?
