Up to you to find a purpose. I think one kind of suggests itself: you have several ships of the same class, so you can actually try different builds side by side. You also have several captains for those ships, so you can also try out differently skilled captains on those builds. A bit like a lab, yes? Of course, you could probably just swap the ARP captains around and wouldn't loose all that much, but I guess for those really into the stuff putting a Haruna captain on the Hiei would feel somewhat wrong, so there you are: a purpose, no matter how you look at it. hth

Which is why I tend to lay a smokescreen, then turn 90° and torp the people torping the smoke from their flank, if I'm at the top of my game. In a DD division using smokes as decoys works even better. One lays smoke, makes sure he's bow on to the incoming torps and starts peppering, two are waiting to cross drop from ships for a change. Try it while it's still possible, highly amusing. People have learned what to do about ships sitting in smoke, but to do it their positioning becomes very easy to anticipate. Long rule the wall of skill!

Bit masochistic, but I start to enjoy playing the Chapa and I never liked her before. But surviving a battle just to spite all the people focusing on me is quite satisfying, I really must say, and maybe I'll even finally learn not to be so suicidal in cruisers as a byproduct. Mission sucks though, but I have reached the point where I really don't expect anything better from WG EU. Not investing in this game any more therefor, just trying to enjoy it while it lasts before they'll inevitably fubar it. -

Alright, I've thought long and hard about this and my reaction to these shenanigans is: I will stop buying anything whatsoever from Wargaming. I feel like I'm a participant in some weird social engineering experiment here, more than anything else, let alone that I'd feel motivated to do the missions. This is so clearly designed to manipulate players' choices that I can't help but feel insulted. Why should I reward that by purchasing any more premium ships or time? I was p.o.ed already by yet another IJN DD nerf coming up, enough is enough. Really regret I couldn't say no to the Fujin... Wrong decision to try to rescue some modicum of fun from that line. Just screw it, I'll have to find another game to really get into. Probably be around for some casual seal-clubbing from time to time, but that's that. WG EU are deplorable, I just can't stomach their demeanor. -
Have to agree, Mutusuki certainly isn't the pinnacle of the IJN DD line.

I don't see the problem with long waiting times for BB captains, it's easily in the scope of usual and expected behavior. Why should they mind camping in queue? -
You mean like in a row within an hour? Otherwise it doesn't count. I think the compensation went the way of the Dodo with the new economy and the fixed repair costs.

It's either a cit or overpen for me. Tongue in cheek alright, but that's really just roll of the dice and nothing more. RN mechanics are just half-cooked. It's not just that the lower tiers are abysmal ships. Sorry, meant to say ships with a high skill requirement...

Yes, cruisers get royally shafted in the current meta, caught between a rock and a very hard place all the time. Worst of all for tier 5 cruisers, who aren't that good to begin with anyway and uptiered 80%+ of their matches nowadays. Oth and maybe I am way more masochistic than the average person, but I really have started to enjoy the Marblehead recently. Consider the range, consider the citadel... how's that for a challenge? Easily the most satisfying win of the day, if I can get a good result in her in a tier 7 battle. Still, something should be done about it nevertheless. At the very least fix tier 5 MM for cruisers. I feel BBs and DDs can cope a lot better, as can most cruisers at tier 6 again. Cleveland, Aoba, Budjonny feel a lot less out of place in tier 8 matches than Omaha, Furutaka and Kirov in tier 7. I consider it a serious design flaw and clearly the intent behind the changed MM - making it easier for new players to get into the game - is completely contradicted at tier 5. Which is just some days away, if somebody seriously gets down to grind a cruiser line. And then comes the culture shock... way to go if you want to frustrate new players, but certainly not what they had in mind. So ffs change it. I'll find a new masochistic challenge. Heck, I could start playing cvs, if all else fails.

And that problem sticks, irregardless of what stat you base MM on. Win rate is just the one most susceptible to it. Again: average position on scoreboard in the ship in question would probably work better when it comes to balancing teams, since it won't deteriorate as easily from ending up on the more moronic team. To the contrary, makes it even more likely, that you'll rank high on your team. Ranked has a remotely similar mechanic in the keeping your star if you're nr1 on the loosing team. Which leads to other problems, when players prioritize that over objectives, but in random I'd wager the recent changes to economy and XP would actually ensure the right synergies here, especially the XP for potential damage thing.

Suggestion: One stat is missing and that is average position on the scoreboard. It's also what is needed for better MM, I've come to suspect. Easy MM: you add up all players' value in this one stat and make sure both teams are on even terms. Equal amount of potatoes, nobody needs to go to bed hungry.

Kraken in the Gnewny, completely kill-secured. Total damage less than 50k, killed 2 BBs, 2 Cruisers and 1 DD. No screenshots, client crashed while loading post-battle screen, but why would I make something like this up? Anyway, had me grinning and that's good enough for me, practically unheard of on a Monday. -
Which actually says you don't know what you're doing. Restraint at the right moment is certainly a very important part of DD play in general and this mode is not different in that regard.

Upping Gamma settings a bit improved my win% in this mode. Maybe just me, I'm an old fart and my eyes are not what they used to be, but if you find yourself too easily disorientated amidst all the doom and gloom, give it a try.

How are they single firing torps?

Single launch torps can also be used to lock a target's orientation, denying space to turn away, so you can continue to citadel them with your AP. Some synergy there. -

The lag doesn't even have to be occurring at that particular moment. It is possible for the client to get out of sync with the server entirely. Rare, but I had that happen to me three of four times. My connection is frankly shite, so... yeah, well... happens. Anyway, in that case you're just screwed and your only way of doing any damage is secondaries or ramming, if you happen to hit an enemy ship by accident. Certainly not on purpose, since you have at best a vague idea where the buggers actually are. -

Oh yeah... I've been on the receiving end of that occasionally too. Sometimes just random morons, sometimes people who really aren't at peace with the concept of multiple people shooting at targets. Anal-retentive psychopaths. I am sad to say that for some reason it's mostly people packing torps. Dunno why really, I find torpedo play a lot less stressful, but what do I know? Anyway, I never stop the flooding from intentional 'friendly' torps, if there's any chance for reflected damage. At that point I really can't be bothered with the outcome of the match any longer anyway. Why would I want that behavior rewarded with a win? Nah, when you have this sort of character on your team... just mock them while sinking peacefully, then ask everybody, enemies included, to report them for chat misbehavior (which inevitably will have occurred at that point, since they will have happily taken the bait - the calmer you stay, the more readily) so that the pink gets served with a side-dish of auto-chat-ban. Maybe it's educational. If not, well, at least it helps to get not that mad myself, which is the main thing at that point.

You can fix that yourself easily. Two known methods: a) play cruiser or b) don't play ranked. Personally I went for b) rather quickly, but that's more down to ranked rage ranks above random rage for me. -

Does it really matter in which game mode you get mad at your team? Let's face it, reliable results require you to carry. Not that I'd be able to most of the time, but that's how it is. This event is no different, just that there's no basic 50:50 chance of your team not being the one even more stupid.
