Rejoice, DDs will be hardly valid in the coming meta anyway, let alone torpedo boats.

patch. 6.0 is a massive battleship buff, nerf to the rest.
tenacious_torps replied to gizaman's topic in General Discussion
Nope, it would leave them in a position to have to draw conclusions. Frankly, by now I am convinced of a complete inability in that department. You might have left because you were disappointed that BBs didn't get buffed much more. We wouldn't want that, would we? Well, that and frankly, I don't believe you. You're just as terminally hooked as me or the next fanatic. Who do you think you're kidding? -

Here's an idea: What if all DD and CL/CA players switched to BBs for a while? We'd be better at it anyway, cuz we know how to live dangerously and cap, push and rush, plus it's something that will show up immediately on WG's damn stats (to which they pay a lot more attention than to anything we say.) Obviously it's what WG want, they're doing anything they possibly can to achieve this, so let's teach them the wisdom in 'careful what you ask for'. -
As much as I like the fully upgraded Chappy (and outright love her with a 15pt captain on), but stock without the range upgrade is an endurance test. For whatever reasons - brainfart, no other explanation - I took B hull first. Yes, the ruddershift in combination with that Yamato-like turning circle is also painful, but a little improvement there doesn't make up for more range. Get the range, get the concealment module, get CE on the captain and suddenly it's an extremely fun ship. But stock? Boy, oh boy... Easily up there with IJN BB stock hulls - which are only in the game to make Yamato players feel like they earned it, imho. Trashcan earns her name stock too. Later on she gets at least bearable, but I'm grinding her right now and... let's just say it doesn't feel in any way better than grinding IJN DDs without the ability to stealth torp. This is a tough competition. WG want us to cough up to progress, in their view it's probably working as intended. To me it's just horrible design though, since high tier battles don't really feel like something one would look that much forward too. Grinding because reasons...

Server imparity: NA throws out another repeatable XP-mission for their players...

When it comes to opportunities to hand over money WG are truly spoiling us. (Working sarcasm detector may be required.) -
Alright, I got some containers gifted and getting 3 Emdens and doubloons in another one out of that has left me with enough doubloons to afford either Belfast or (Blys + Anshan). Which is a bit of a tough choice really, normally I'd pick DD over anything else, but with the upcoming skilltree changes I'm not so sure anymore and anyway I could use a British trainer. Resorting to the Cam'town is quite tedious, horrible ship, one of those I certainly struggle to see the point of. Buying more doubloons on top of it is a nono, WG are still under embargo. (Disclosure: will be lifted if and when that radio atrocity is dropped) So, what does the collective wisdom of the forums make out of it?

how it feels to play the ROYAL NAVY LINE
tenacious_torps replied to shane80uk's topic in General Discussion
There is a right way to play the Danae? Best I could come up with was to suffer through. Which at least has the benefit that you're well prepared for the endurance test named Emerald. After that things brighten up considerably though. -
Still going strong, I see.

How often do you experience WoWs crashes and / or freeze-ups?
tenacious_torps replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in Archive
I run the game on Linux/WINE/PoL and stability has increased massively with the latest patches. I had regular crashes after a couple of games (rarely got more than half a dozen in a row) apparently due to memory leaks, but right now they seem to have gone for good. Since obviously this setup is a lot less forgiving when it comes to sloppy coding, I can only assume there's been some house-cleaning. Well, gj I say. -
Sims and Yuubari back in the shop
tenacious_torps replied to Robber_Baron's topic in General Discussion
The Yubari is probably useful as a trainer. Not primarily as a captain trainer, but as a player trainer. You need accurate guns to learn how to aim properly, imho, and I don't think there's another ship at those tiers even close to her dispersion, if I recall mined data correctly. While I still think it's questionable to throw real money at WG right now - smart money is probably on waiting to see how big of a screw-up the new skills will really turn out - she's comparatively cheap and might be a good buy for new players or those who feel like they lack in the aiming department, especially if they don't plan to go into soviet cruisers and their railguns, which I'd recommend otherwise. She also goes together well with the Ishizuchi and her lack of AA, so if you've got somebody to division with who enjoys that ship that's one fine IJN division right there. Oth both ships were actually on the loosing side of the MM overhaul a while ago, since one of their selling points before that was preferential MM that's now extended to the whole tier, on the plus side however you'll hardly get accused of seal-clubbing, since neither of the two is considered OP in any way or form. (Which is an amusing way to conceal you're running your Yamato and Zao captains... :p) -
Dude, calm down. Next time just grab a can and wait for the pink and reflected damage kicking in, then watch the show. I never retaliate, I also never repair fires and floods from teamkilling bastards. It works. It's actually quite satisfying in a sick way. Everything else has just one predictable result: things quickly spiral out of control. Everybody else: cut him some slack, this crap can be enraging and the same is easily true for any contact with support.

Belfast or Blys and Anshan?
tenacious_torps replied to tenacious_torps's topic in General Discussion
Went with the majority opinion and got the Belfast. Had three matches on my first test-drive, three wins. Damage output certainly is more consistent than on techtree RN cruisers, not sure about the OP bit though. Maybe MM with 0 to 2 DDs on the enemy team had something to do with that, maybe she needs a 15pt captain to really synergize to god-tier-hood. We'll see, but I'm sure I can make her work. I do well in the Atlanta, this one should be easier still. Anyway, that 15pt captain should be a lot easier to get now. If I could count on WG to listen to overwhelmingly negative feedback, I'd be off to the prem shop right now to buy the doubloons for the Blys. But then again, 30% off on tiers 5-7 seem to pop up quite regularly, so no need to rush. I might drop all but the Russian DDs if that crap goes live. -
carriers players rigging battles.

Friend of mine got a solo warrior in an Independence, when he was without any planes left whatsoever by capping. A low health enemy Mutsuki was running away from him, obviously didn't know Independence didn't even have secondaries. One of the most fun matches I've ever seen. (Sorry, it kinda counted as a rhetorical question and I have some obsession issues right there...) -

A One-Off Personal Offer by WG! Today!
tenacious_torps replied to Capt_Wet_Pants's topic in General Discussion
They really need to work on the special offers code, I've seen numerous posts on exactly the same happening. Obviously current offers are not taken into account. -
Had offers for 100% discount on a week of premium time pop up twice, when I had doubloons sitting around unused for a longer period of time. Of course I took those. At the end of each week I got offers for 20% off on another week. Which, of course, I did not take. Before I got 90 days out of some santa container gifted to me recently those two weeks were the grand sum total of my premium time in the game, I think.

That's impressively lifelike.

Have a hug, you beautiful mind.

How can I improve my performance with my t7 German BB?
tenacious_torps replied to Capt_Wet_Pants's topic in General Discussion
54% winrate, with one game out of 10 loosing connection and lag between 300 and 3000ms for some minutes on about a quarter of the matches. Since I play on Linux depending on the current patch the game's stability varies a lot for me. This one is fine, but up until 0.5.14 I also had crashes every four or five battles. So with all those obstacles I'm quite content with those 54%. It's decent, a bit above average. And the reason why my stats are hidden too, just like yours. It'd be too tedious to explain this again and again - which I'd feel the need to do, if discussions degraded to who's got the better stats has the better argument. Btw, I rarely play in divisions for the above reasons, don't want to drag people down with me, when some of that stuff hits again. Since I can't really do much to influence any of those factors, it wouldn't be fair to enter into any joined adventures, would it? I feel I can carry my weight in random battles despite, so not a problem there. Hm... TMI? Well, maybe, but I guess too much info is better than too little, when you want to assess whether to listen to somebody's advice or not, so there you go. -
Always the most merry of forumites, aren't you?

To you too. I'll be going for a midnight hike later, walk across the hilltops and look down on all the cities and their fireworks.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
tenacious_torps replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Havaduck in an Ibuki and his division mate in an Izumo. Didn't notice till after the battle, was too busy shouting at the BBs on my team, who spent most of the match hiding behind islands and being useless. As a results so was I, because a light cruiser simply can't tank. Ah well, it's one long weekend. Havaduck oth did well and topped the scoreboard. -

I play on an absolute potato PC. A office machine where I exchanged the PSU so I even could plug in a dedicated GFX... This game is optimized for low-end, since lots of the customers in Eastern Europe and SEA are unlikely to have lots of disposable income to spent on the newest IT blink. On top of that my connection is absolute crap, I loose it regularly and suffer from random and sudden lags, that may leave me with a ship barely able to even navigate for minutes. I still do above average, if ever so slightly. So don't fall for trying to buy your way around the need to learn. It's a fallacy. Most top players will have good computers and connections, but that's so because they enjoy games and are more likely to spend on it therefor, not because good hardware makes good players. At least not in this game. -

That's what the speed on that ship is for. Either close in or disengage, there is zero reason to engage in drawn out sniping battles. -

tenacious_torps replied to Capt_Wet_Pants's topic in General Discussion
Just got me a Gneis - basically to get into the mind of the ancestral enemy - and to me the key to that ship seems to be to utilize her cruiser-like speed to pick your fights. Don't overdo the rushing in stuff, but when you feel like your team isn't really making the most of an advantage because nobody wants to get focused it's your time to step up. Make yourself the biggest (and quickly approaching...) threat, so lighter ships on your team dare to push in behind you. Also always rush isolated enemy BBs, the closer you get the more that battle turns to your advantage. Do not rush DDs though, tempting as it may be, but the Gneis is no Bismarck. Completely different story, if you got a cruiser behind you who can provide the consumables you're lacking, but otherwise just no. Well, my impressions so far. I do quite well with her on average - on par with the Nagato and Colorado - but feel like it's more hit and miss. Sometimes those guns just troll you. When the battle goes in a way that I never really could get close, well, that can go horribly wrong and I'm usually burned down by cruisers who have their citadels blessed by RNGeesus. hth
