First I could not get in because of "technical issues detected". I rebooted, restarted the game and was able to play two games before it crashed. Then I had some more technical issues, tried rebooting again, and now I'm no longer having any technical issues. What I do have is an endless loading screen, but no error messages. Looks like I won't be completing any daily missions today.

screen hangs on lineup screen but still puts me in game
Rosletyne replied to Taffyqueen's topic in General Discussion
Just now I got stuck on the queue screen. After waiting for about a minute for the lineup to load, I gave up and restarted, arriving in the battle about five minutes late. Fortunately I arrived just in time to sink a pair of enemy destroyers attacking me, and the game was a win, but it could easily have been ruined by this bug. This happened right after I had tried and failed to enter battle, with a message I have never seen before, saying the server was overloaded and telling me to try another battle type or to try again later. I had tried to queue for random, and it was my first battle after just starting the client. I play on Mac so I'm used to encountering crashes left and right, but this was completely unheard of. -
I want to join the lottery. Thank you in advance for running this again.

Tonight I once again had the pleasure of having a team killer on my team. Both teams had a division of three players from the same clan, so the team killer took it upon himself to kill those on our team, though he only managed to kill himself. Unsatisfied, he demanded the rest of our team should kill them, for cheating. The clan players had done nothing wrong - both divisions fired at enemies and sank them. Their only questionable action was retaliating against the team killer, but under the circumstances I find it understandable. After the match was over, I had a rare conversation with the team killer. He actually responded, and tried to justify his actions. I have copied it below as accurately as I could, though I have left out both his name and the tag of the clan involved. Comments? I'll be sending the link to this topic to both the team killer, and the clan players.

Aircraft Carrier: Changes to Tech Trees, Upgrades and Commander Skills - Discussion Thread
Rosletyne replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
I don't think you are looking at this from a long term perspective either. You certainly have not considered the full implications of the change. Currently, players of low tier CVs have no problems with long waiting times. It is common to see one or even two CVs in each team in low tier games. What do you think will happen to those players when Zuiho and Bogue are removed? Some of them will quit, some will move on to higher tier CVs, but most will stay at the new tier IV, combined from the old tiers IV and V. If we're being optimistic and the rework succeeds in bringing in new CV players, the result would be a significant increase in player numbers at tier IV. Which, as I said before, has no problems with waiting times, and which also has protected matchmaking. They can only be placed in tier IV or V games, while the players of Zuiho and Bogue could be spread around in tiers VI and VII too. And this is the situation without any special event related to CVs. In simple terms, this change could result in twice as many players having to be placed in half as many tiers of games. I find it possible, even probable, that the change actually causes long waiting times permanently for low tier CV players, because there simply are not enough low tier games to place them into. By the way, if you felt like the Shokaku did not feel like progression from the Ryujo, I can only wonder what you're smoking. Maybe you meant to say Hiryu, but that changes nothing. Hiryu plays different from Ryujo thanks to gaining a second fighter squadron without having to sacrifice strike potential, and Shokaku again plays vastly different thanks to having defensive fire, the introduction of which forces a drastic change in CV playstyle. And even if they were not all that different between successive tiers, so what? I don't expect or want them to be. If you want a different experience, play the CVs of a different nation. -
Aircraft Carrier: Changes to Tech Trees, Upgrades and Commander Skills - Discussion Thread
Rosletyne replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
I am writing this at 9 AM. I have not had a wink of sleep, because this is making me too angry. I have read the supposed clarification post, and I find it insulting to my intelligence. No one was buying that dramatic increase between tiers nonsense, so they made up some new excuses for decimating the carrier lines. Of course, the new excuses make no more sense than the first one did, nor do they begin to make this change acceptable. First, the matchmaker. I already noted the contradiction of expecting more CV players and having to concentrate the fewer CV players on fewer tiers. This might in fact increase waiting times, since there may not be enough low tier games available. And what is that bit about the number of balanced battles increasing supposed to mean? CV matchmaking is mirrored, and if CVs of the same tier are not balanced, reducing the number of tiers is not going to do squat to fix it. Next, the progression. This is just the same dramatic increase hogwash being repeated. Can't you see that with the same logic, you could eliminate all ships on odd tiers? Sure, you can't go increasing the number of aircraft in a strike every tier. Likewise, you could say you can't increase the number of guns a cruiser has every tier. But wait, Helena at tier VII has more guns than Cleveland at tier VIII, how can this be? Clearly you must remove Helena from the game immediately, since there are no other parameters you could possibly change to balance this. I mean, that is just obvious. Finally, the gameplay is supposed to become clearer. Somehow. I'm glad something is, because these excuses certainly are not. Evaluating carrier strength is supposed to become easier. Okay, you could argue that tier VIII is clearly higher than tier VI, but how is it any less clear that tier VII is also higher? Evaluating relative ship strength is exactly what the tiers are for. Do you seriously not trust your players to be able to count to ten? Here it gets interesting. Also horrifyingly stupid, but that is interesting, right? We're supposed to get the removed carriers back later, only instead of carriers, they will be turned into a circus of stupid gimmicks. Smoke screens? Fighting fires? Capturing objectives? Do you people even know what carriers are? Carriers are supposed to be offensive weapons, damage dealers, vehicles of death and destruction. And you are planning on reducing them to I don't even know what, naval auxiliaries? The only promise I see here is of dismal failure. I see you struggling to even differentiate between carriers of different nations, and you expect me to believe you could do the same with different branches too? Yeah, good luck with that. Finally there is the simple problem that we won't simply get our carriers back. We have to endure the grind for them again, only it will be even slower and less rewarding than the first time, with fewer ships to unlock which we will all know we have already earned. Some of that grind might not be that bad - protected tier IV matchmaking until tier VI - but the idea of having to stay at tier VIII twice as long, having to constantly deal with being uptiered and with the ridiculous oversaturation of premiums, sounds excruciatingly painful. Also, I have seen no response whatsoever to carriers being excluded from events requiring odd tier ships. Some of the operations do, too. All that said, the new gameplay might not be that bad. If it had been combined with the long awaited release of the British CV line, I might even have supported it. But if it gets paired with the removal of content, for such absurd reasons even, the rework will be tarnished beyond all hope. You can't get people hyped about the removal of content. You just can't. -
Doubloon Haul Up For Grabs - Super Sub Challenge - Discussion Thread
Rosletyne replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Wow, so my team actually had the top spot. I got the 1500 doubloons earlier today, but for all I knew we could have been tied for the 7th spot. Many of the other players near the top were also with us on different runs. I was on four runs where we got 34 kills, the times being 18:38, 17:26, 17:27 and 17:30. We kept trying for several hours, trying to beat the Russian record of 34 kills in 17:09, but we never managed that perfect run. Not for lack of trying though. Near the end I had memorized the names of all the enemy ships and where they spawned, which enabled me to tell my team which ones were left so they could get into position to kill them quickly. -
Aircraft Carrier: Changes to Tech Trees, Upgrades and Commander Skills - Discussion Thread
Rosletyne replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
I can't remember ever seeing another thread where people were this unanimous in their opinion. Of course I agree, removing half the carriers from the game is preposterous. The only thing more ridiculous is that excuse they gave about a more dramatic increase in capability between successive carriers. It is frankly insulting that WG expects us to believe that bovine excrement, because there is no way in hell that is their real reason. What could their real reason be? The best case would be that they are simply clueless about how to balance their new carriers, and they can do it easier by reducing their number. In that case, we might hope to get them back some day, but even then the damage will have been done. I especially dislike the idea of tier 8 being oversaturated with premiums, making the excessively long grind even more painful. The other option is that they are intentionally creating tiers with no CVs for future events. Imagine another ranked sprint for an odd tier? So sorry you can't play a CV, because none exist for the required tier. This would be just another injury to the CV players, who have already been excluded from too many events. Then there is the very worst option. Notice how they expected the matchmaker to find games faster for CV players? But wait a minute, was the goal not to have more people playing CVs, and if so, why would they need to be concentrated on fewer tiers for the matchmaker to work? Unless... they don't actually expect more people to play CVs, and they are doing this just to keep queue times short for the few who continue to play CVs after the disaster strikes. I loved my Hiryu more than any other CV, and while I don't have her in my port any more, I was considering buying back my tier 7 CVs and training new captains for them. But now, why should I bother? I was also looking forward to completing the grind to tier 10 in my Taiho and Essex. Guess I should not have bothered to retrain my tier 8 captains for them, complete waste of time. -
Got quests for submarines i ALREADY own!
Rosletyne replied to Grumpy_Shark's topic in General Discussion
Note that even if you already have the Zipper Sub and Gerfalcon, the quests for them are very much worth doing. You don't get any more subs, but you do get port slots for them, which you can presumably keep permanently. -

Go Navy HoF - did the scores get bugged after the server restart?
Rosletyne replied to NicramDuel's topic in General Discussion
What I'd like to know is what my score is. No matter how many times I check, my score in the Hall of Fame is 0, and it is 0 for every week, not just the current one. I've played enough games to probably be past 2000, but I'm not sure exactly, and the Hall of Fame keeps lying to me. -
How do we help players like these?
Rosletyne replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
I've been around for a long while, and I just don't care about the bad players as much as I used to. There are just too many of them so that getting worked up over them would be a full time job. There are however two classes of players who I would gladly see chased out of the game with torches and pitchforks. Those are quitters and griefers. I once ran into a player who, immediately after the match started, said he wanted to punish the weekend warriors by not participating. He sailed his DD around the map edges, doing absolutely nothing to help, while in chat he tried to provoke other players to shoot at him, so they would get in trouble for team killing. I ran into him again a few games later, doing exactly the same thing. Worst of all, his own win rate was in the low 40s, and he seemed completely oblivious to his hypocrisy. This was the only person I ever reported to support, since I did not trust the report system to do anything, and I wanted him banned. Then there are the griefers. My latest one was someone who spent the first 8 minutes of the match afk, then ran away, insulted and murdered an allied DD for absolutely no reason, and then died. I chastised him in chat after the match, and he had the nerve to threaten me with reporting me to the moderators for harassment. And he was an above average player at 52%. How do you deal with players like these? The first example was probably a lost cause, and the game is better off without him. The latter may have been an ordinary player having a bad day, and taking it out on the players on his team. I believe some players are truly beyond help, but it is not always easy to tell. For me, the deciding factor is malice. You can be as bad as you want, as long as you are trying. But if you are deliberately hurting your team by being absent or killing allies, you have no place being here. -
What is the stupidest thing you did today?

Played the Halloween scenario in the Nobilium CV, nuking enemy ships with my torpedoes, and did not notice my ship had gotten stuck circling a waypoint. By the time I saw it, I was heading straight into the filth and about to ram an enemy cruiser. The team was pretty bad too, it became the only Halloween game I've yet lost. -

Funny and sad game situations shown with map screenshots.
Rosletyne replied to albinbino's topic in General Discussion
I've got a story to share too. This happened a couple days ago, in one of my last ranked battles. I could take screenshots, but I can't be bothered with editing them, and the story works better in writing anyway. I do have the replay though, should someone want to see it for themselves. I had a Bogue on my team. He was obviously German, not only because of his name, but because as soon as the match started he said in German that he had picked both the wrong game mode and the wrong ship. Sounds promising, no? Oh did I forget to mention he was already pink? Yeah, this was not very encouraging. Some minutes later we'd gotten off on a good start. I had sunk an enemy DD trying to cap with a lucky torpedo hit, giving us the lead. Our pink Bogue had even proven useful by beating the enemy Bogue trying to snipe him. He must have felt fairly sure of himself, because he next said this. Bogue: "guys please attack dd i do the rest" Yes, he really said that. And it took him only one minute after that to call for help. He had sailed out of island cover broadside on into the line of fire of an enemy Königsberg. It was not like he did not know he was there either, as the cruiser was spotted by his own planes. The cruiser wasted no time raining AP shells into his exposed side, and 30 seconds or 6 citadels later, our Bogue was sunk. I cannot remember having witnessed a better example of pride goeth before a fall. But the story does not end here. Next, the enemy Königsberg said in chat how many citadels he had scored. Our Bogue responded, and it was amazing to watch how everything he said made his humiliation worse. Königsberg: "6 cita" Bogue: "yeah you lucky" Bogue: "my dont know to be a team so...." Königsberg: "you stupid but thx" Bogue: "why" Bogue: "you are yes" Bogue: "there i came behind iland i be rock you all down" Bogue: "so dont make full of bla bla if dont know taktik noob" His English was so broken it was difficult to decipher what he was trying to say, but one thing is clear. His team had failed him. The very idea that he could have made a mistake was inconceivable, and anyone who thought he had was clearly a noob who did not understand tactics. I mean, that should be obvious, right? It did not get any better from there. Our Bogue attempted to salvage some dignity by telling other team members what to do. They were having none of it. Bogue: "omaha go fast help uhters!!!" Bogue: "and bb dont camp there" Iron Duke: "CAMP!!!!" Iron Duke: "ARE U F#$%^& MAD???" Bogue: "go C7" Iron Duke: "FU U ARE DEAD" Bogue: "yes because no help of omaha" Okhotnik: "no problrm report omaha" Bogue: "yes" Omaha: "thx" Minekaze (me): "You are dead because you exposed your CV to fire from an enemy." Okhotnik: "np" Bogue: "man please shut up if u dont know to play" Bogue: "a cv had to to be in action in secure to care uthers with fia i many time do that and no died so what is your prob." At this point the match ended in our victory. Everyone had done their part, having sunk one enemy each. Everyone except our Bogue that is, who boasted he would take care of the rest if we sank the enemy DDs. I have no idea what he was trying to say in his last message, but I reported him and complimented our Omaha for not stooping down to his level. I don't actually believe our Okhotnik thought the Omaha deserved to be reported - other than ram our Bogue and stop him from leaving cover, I cannot imagine what he could have done - he simply wanted the Bogue to shut up. You may wonder, since this was only tier V ranked, if our Bogue was simply new to the game and did not know any better. Oh, no. He in fact has nearly ten thousand games played, including tier X. His stats are of course bad across the board, but carriers are unsurprisingly his worst class, where he sports a glorious 37% win rate. And this guy thinks he can tell other people to shut up because they don't know how to play. This might be the most special of all the special people I have encountered in this game. Perfect poster boy of the Dunning-Kruger effect in action. I'm actually considering sending the replay to Jingles. That boasting followed by his humiliating death a minute later was just priceless. -
The Ranked One thread (post here when you reach Rank I)
Rosletyne replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
Did it today after 14 battles, using Nicholas and Minekaze. I only lost a single game, but kept the star. I see someone did it with a perfect win streak, but they used the Kamikaze... let's see if anyone comes forward who had all wins using only non-premium ships? -
I don't report players for being AFK, not unless they spent the entire game AFK. That is because I play on Mac, where crashes are a fact of life. Despite taking precautions, I still crash occasionally and arrive to the battle a few minutes late, or worse, crash in the middle of the action and arrive back to a sunk ship. I sometimes wonder how much better my stats would be if I did not have to deal with this. The only types of players I report regularly are team killers and quitters. I can forgive being bad at the game, but if you don't even try and logout because you don't like the matchmaking, or hide in the back to punish the weekend warriors, or whatever excuse these people have to flat out refuse to participate in the battle, rest assured they can expect a report or two from me. Then of course there are the idiots who report me for stupid reasons. If I can figure out who they are, I regularly report them back. Most of them tend to be on my own team, reports from the enemy seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Here are my most recent reports, in case anyone needs any more evidence that the karma system is abused to oblivion, and should be removed from the game. - Game crashed while I was in queue with Gallant. I arrived to the game late, apologized for the delay and went to battle, but was reported anyway. This was the only report I consider to have a legitimate reason, even though the crash was not my fault. - Playing Helena on very low HP, an allied BB from halfway across the map wants me to come and help with an enemy DD. Since the DD was spotting for enemy battleships, and I had no way to spot the DD even if I could get there alive, I told him no. - Having a good game in Nicholas, I burned an enemy BB to death for my third kill. Apparently this made me a "smug bastard" so he reported me. I had said nothing at all in chat. - Scharnhorst on my team gets torpedoed and then burned to death by an enemy Akizuki. After his death he wants the team to report me, calls me a noob, says I'm not ready for high tier games, the works. What he wanted me to do was charge the Akizuki in his smoke screen and sink it with my "very good" guns. I was in Fubuki. This was so stupid even his division did not join him in reporting me. - Went to cap and spot in Gallant, found most of the enemy team, looked behind me and saw no one. Retreating under heavy fire I saw battleships sailing away to hide behind islands with the CV. The team collapsed like a house of cards, and apparently I got reported for surviving. - Scored three out of five kills total for my team, and got reported for it. I suspect an allied BB who sailed to the edge of map and wanted me to come with him, which would have left no one covering our base. - Won a ranked game in Minekaze. The game was unremarkable in every respect, and I have no idea who was triggered by it, or why. - Went to cap and spot in Gallant, found half the enemy team, only had one cruiser for support. Battleships stayed way back, and did nothing to help against the two enemy DDs I was up against. After we had retreated to the other side of the map, and with most of my HP gone, one of the BBs asks me for support. He wanted me to go back and fight those DDs, and give him a smoke screen, presumably so he could continue running away and not helping, just like he had done all the other times I had spotted those DDs. I ignored him, and gave him all the support he had given me.

Stupid people will do stupid things. They don't seem to realize that mission is only one of many, and there are others that take substantially longer to complete, like getting a set amount of base EXP. It is pointless to try to get the potential damage in a single battle when the other missions require several battles anyway. As for losing streaks, I haven't really noticed them happening to me lately. But then, I like to play ships where I make my own luck. That does not mean I would not get disappointing defeats too of course. My biggest heartbreak today was earning a Kraken in my Minekaze, after winning two gunfights with enemy destroyers, but losing the game to points.

My only problem with this operation is that it is unplayable on Mac. That was the case the last time it was operation of the week, and the patches since then have fixed nothing. The game still keeps crashing near the end of the operation when you have to clear the enemy harbor of ships, and you cannot even reenter, because the game just crashes immediately again. No scenarios for me until next week.

Today YouTube really surpassed itself, offering me this. Have you had any, shall we say, interesting recommendations from YouTube? Can you beat this?

Did you get any British DD-missions from the containers?
Rosletyne replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I'd received none when I voted at the end of the first week. Then I got Acasta on the second week, followed by Icarus and Jervis from the reward containers from the first Hall of Fame. Of course, I only got those containers a few hours before the second week ended, meaning I was unable to get any of the rewards requiring a tier VII ship. -
There was a new secret achievement added in patch 0.7.7. This must be it. Near each of the three possible exit points, just outside the map border, there are two small islands next to each other. This cartoon ship randomly appears sailing back and forth between them, maybe 20% of the time. You can in fact damage it too. It is impervious to gunfire, but you can damage it with torpedoes for 10 HP. Do it, and you get this: If you play a carrier, you can order your planes to attack it automatically, and air dropped torpedoes can damage it, but you won't get the achievement. I tried. You need to use ship launched torpedoes, and that is much trickier, since you can't lock onto it.

My record stands at 37 with the Farragut. C hull and AA guns modification, but no captain skills at all. Not nearly as high as the numbers in this thread, but still more than the rest of my team combined. It took me until today to remember that Farragut had access to the AA fire consumable. Until today I'd been playing the operation without it. Still managed decent numbers of plane kills and five star wins.
