0.8.0 is an end of the game as we know it. Let's see what it cost us
IanH755 replied to Humorpalanta's topic in General Discussion
If WG bring "CV balance updates" out once/twice a week they might not lose too many players but, should they only update during the usual monthly cycles it'll take 2-3 months to sort and they risk losing more players than the new CV gameplay will bring in. Plus, those leaving will generally be those more "experienced" players whose loss will have a greater effect on the game for the rest of the playerbase, making even a now "CV Balanced" game less enjoyable for those remaining and risking further playerbase loses. I really hope WG are taking a really serious look at all the potential harm they can cause with such an important patch if they get it badly wrong! -

In PvP very few DM's or Woosters are "full AA" spec. A Full AA Spec DM has 1050+ AA DPS without Def AA active and 2500+ AA DPS with Def AA, both are enough to kill T10 CV squads before they get to you. A Full AA Spec Wooster has even more AA DPS. Again the issue is that, because there are very few CV's, very few DM's and Woosters run full AA builds so because these ships are Not full AA build you will see lots get killed by a CV, especially with all the HE spam currently which wipes out AA guns very quickly! -
Yeap, I feel the same way. I love playing for AA so this patch and its currently borked AA will definitely reduce my enjoyment of the game.

I'll stay playing Co-op as that shouldn't be badly effected by the bot CV's but my biggest gripe is that I deliberately spec for full AA on all my AA ships and from what I've seen so far during testing and on PTS it'll be a waste of time and points now as the 1 point twin catapult skill has more effect on AA than the actual reworked AA skills. So TL:DR I said the AA rework would be garbage and so far it is. -

Pah, no-one wants that garbage "Super Yamato" at T10 really, what they need is Space Battleship Yamato for T10!!!!!!!!

While the Upgrades sale was on I prepared for the upcoming CV patch by buying 25 AA range modules and, if the patch is garbage I can always sell them back for full price. -
Brainstorming about the hordes of new 35% winrate high tier players
IanH755 replied to Praevasc's topic in General Discussion
I would agree however WG want everyone to be able to reach higher tiers to keep increasing the player base numbers as anyone stuck at T5 for example would probably quit, whereas if he could reach T10 with his T5 skill level just due to playing enough games, he'll stay as a player. -
Brainstorming about the hordes of new 35% winrate high tier players
IanH755 replied to Praevasc's topic in General Discussion
I'm all for a system like the type used in Gran Turismo, where tiers are locked behind a tutorial you must pass (graded for performance) such as - T2 - AP, Torps & smoke T3 - BB heals T4 - CV's T5 - Hydro and spotter planes T6 - Def AA and manual CV attacks T7 - Radar T8+ are now open Or something along those lines. However, that'll bottleneck players in lower tiers which WG hates so it'll never happen and instead you'll continue to get players doing so badly they only get 300 base XP per game playing 4k games and reaching T10, which is what WG are happy with. -

[Co-Op] - Had some really good games now the snowflake rush is over, including this Montana game where, for the first time, I one-shot a Musashi for 8 Citadels and nothing else (no detonation) - just citadels and all in one salvo! and then a really rewarding Yamato game using the 200% XP first win bonus matched to the 400% XP camo! -
Knocking off Snowflakes - Co-Op is just sooooo bad right now!
IanH755 posted a topic in General Discussion
Hi all, This isn't a rant or complaint (said that first but someone will still say I am ) but with the huge influx of PvP players into Co-Op right now, each knocking off Snowflakes from their ships, Co-Op is a horrible place to be. Virtually everyone is getting <400XP (not all but the vast majority), it's almost impossible to get 3+ kills as everyone is getting 1, the games only last 4 minutes, Bot CV's have disappeared as the queues are filled with humans so no extra Plane Kill XP and the salt in chat is getting to Random levels of garbage. So, if you're a Co-Op main like myself, do yourself a favour and jump into Random to ruin that mode like PvP players have just done to Co-Op give the game a break as you'll not be able to find your usual "fun/exciting" game but instead an un-fun and overly quick mess. If I could have changed one thing about these Snowflakes it would be remove the "......and Win" requirement so that so many PvP players didn't feel "forced" into playing a game-mode they don't like just to get the ship reward. Wouldn't it have been better to play the ship in a mode they like and still get rewarded for it instead? Anyway, have as much fun as you can Co-Op folks, it'll all be over soon- 75 replies

Ahhhhhh and normalcy returns The "snowflake-pocalypse" seems to have passed and I'm back to playing 3-4 kill, 100k+ damage & 600+ base XP games again, all is good with the world -
I hate CV's and think the entire line should be deleted
IanH755 replied to anonym_CsauhrZtDqUP's topic in General Discussion
I wonder if, as a temporary thing, they'd remove playable CV's and replace them with bot CV's until the playable line is actually ready. That way there's still CV's to play against for AA ships in the mean time but their skill level is neutral for both sides. Then once the playable CV's are more polished, in another few months, they could be introduced more "cleanly". Not that it'll happen mind! -
Hi all, Operation Frontier is one of the more difficult Ops I realise but it's not impossible to get 4 star+ wins occasionally but it's just painful to watch people throw the game time after time for so many silly reasons. BB's not killing the cruiser in the Top Right so our planes get shot down, 2 Cruisers getting torped by the first 2 DD's so no-one is left to kill the middle right cruiser meaning our planes get shot down, human DD's always shooting so they are always spotted and die quickly etc, the list goes on. I played 4 games back to back in Flint, Atlanta and Boise and did 150K+ in all the games, averaged 4-6 kills and I came top of the XP in 3 out of 4and it seems that all but one of the 24 other players in those 4 teams seems to have had too much potato over Christmas and it's infected their brains (the 24th was a good player, also in an Atlanta and came top XP). What is it about these Ops which takes average players and makes them into drooling lobotomy cases. Are there too many DD's, too much targeting of cruisers by the bots so that human BB's can't tank, not enough terrain to hide behind, are people scared of the bots etc? Just what is it that makes this Op in particular just so hard for the average player? One thing I have noticed is that there is sooo much HE spam from the bots and with almost no cruisers having the ability to heal they die the quickest, even with that repair station, so thats one issue I think could be improved on. Anyone else have their own ideas as I'd love to know what others think?

[Co-Op] - Breaking 1100 Base XP in Co-Op is always fun but this match also completed my P.E.F campaign (get 1k+ base XP in 1 battle) which made it all the more fun. The total XP/Free XP is also a nice bonus too and so is getting your 4th kill (and finishing the game) with a ram on a 3/4 health Montana when you have less than 1/6th of your health left. It was also my first Thunderstorm Co-Op match and the visuals when aiming are awful as you can just barely see a Bot yet they have full visibility of you. PS Shout out to the Zao at the start asking for AA help from our Bot CV, I "think" I helped out just a little And my obligitory "showing off my new ship" match! I really love playing the Flint! -
Had this a few times when WG's servers are having a glitch. So you can still log in and play but some things related to money (credits or Gold) in-game aren't available.

Operation Frontier - Why do people find it so hard?
IanH755 replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
It's originally a good Op with different tasks for the different classes due to the different spawn locations, plus being T7 means I can use a different set of ships than all the other Ops (until Cherry Blossom was added). I know the ships got "Captain Skills" added like BB's got fire prevention, on a T4 BB FFS, but the Op is still easily do-able if, and it's a humongous IF, so many of the people playing weren't as poor. -
CV Rework - the other Elephant in the Room
IanH755 replied to Gvozdika's topic in General Discussion
I thought the current system worked quite well as you could "stack" squadrons into one big Alpha Strike (all squadrons in one lump) so that even if you were a strong AA ship, if it was necessary a CV could still push through (losing many planes) and strike you so both you and the CV "gained" something from the exchange (plane kills for you and damage for the CV) and "good" CV's waited until HE had striped away some of your AA mounts too. It may not have been a great interaction but it sure looks better than what 0.8.0 will be bringing, unless something is radically different from the PTS CV videos I'm watching!- 78 replies

CV Rework - the other Elephant in the Room
IanH755 replied to Gvozdika's topic in General Discussion
It really feels like my biggest concern, one that was mostly ignored when I mentioned it in the beta-testing area, was that WG was concentrating so much on just the CV aspect that I just knew the AA rework was going to be a horrible jumble with not enough time or effort given to it, due to all the time and effort being spent on the CV's themselves. I'm truly hoping that 0.8.0 is a well received, polished roll-out with well thought-out AA/CV interactions and a more enjoyable CV experience for both CV mains and their prey other players but I just get that sinking feeling looking at all the negativity surrounding the testing so far that this is going to bomb, hard!- 78 replies

CV Rework - the other Elephant in the Room
IanH755 replied to Gvozdika's topic in General Discussion
It gets even worse - Both Atlanta and Flint get a huge AA DPS bonus using the Manual Control of AA (MCAA) skill on their 127mm DP mounts and that skill will be ruthlessly nerfed into the ground with 0.8.0. Take the Atlanta whose AA DPS is a maximum of 616 DPS without MCAA and 1090 DPS with MCAA when Def AA is active (working out in spoiler). With the new MCAA change (+20% to AA DPS but ONLY on a selected left/right sector, not all around) the new max AA DPS becomes 739 DPS but only on one side of the ship, which is a 33% nerf in AA power on one side and a potential 45% nerf to the other unchanged side. PLUS, because of the way the new AA is "layered" the Atlantas AA is virtually all (90%) in the long range aura, which is also the easiest to dodge. So not only is the Atlanta, a premium ship people spent hard cash on as an AA ship, getting a 33% reduction in it's AA power, it's also getting an unknown nerf from the way the AA Auras are changing. Great Job WG, Great Job!- 78 replies

Operation Frontier - Why do people find it so hard?
IanH755 replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, BB's are the back bone of this Op and can almost hold it together when the cruisers all go to pieces but they can get easily swamped by the DD's if the cruisers all die too soon. I'm just so "surprised" that it feels like so many players, even those in Clans (and therefore must care about the game a bit) are so poor at the very basics. For example the Clan player in the Algerie in this game below (4 star win so they are possible) died right at the start because he rushed 3 BB's, 2 DD's and a Cruiser, dying within 2 minutes of his first shot, rather than get into my smoke like I told him he could do. Despite being at least a T7 player, what part of that makes him think it was a smart move? The other Clan player (again, should be better) also did poorly, managing to die to the Atlanta in the top right spawn point somehow! -
Well, I'm glad it's not just me then. It's got so "bad" earlier that before every BB salvo I do the work around just to be sure I'm not wasting the salvo. I also got kicked back to Port after 50% of the matches rather than seeing the results which only rarely happened to me before today.
-
Well I've given it a while and I'd say that this bug is still there but now the mini-map shows you are locked on (different than previous) when you aren't. I had a few games now where my dispersion, in either a cruiser or a DD, has been awful (Lightning missing 5 salvoes at 6km against a broadside cruiser - Buddy missing 4 salvoes at a CV at 9km) until I used the "X to unlock - X to relock" work around and the next salvoes have all been as they should. Anyone else noticing anything "odd" since the update?
