The 25% coupon for Premium Ships in the Armory. Are you going to pick something up?
IanH755 replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
As a collector with only the Diana is missing from my "available" list and it now here in Doubloons I'll get that but won't use the coupon for such a small purchase yet. -
Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]
IanH755 replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
Looking at Reddit so far lots of 100x signals or 25x special signals and very little coal, steel, ships etc. I think it's time "Super" containers were renamed "meh but it's free so don't complain" containers now that so much SC content is available in the armoury. -
Glorious Ramming mechanics (aka bugged as F)
IanH755 replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in General Discussion
I know that ramming is bugged in some cases, only in your case it worked as advertised. Also your fire went out just before the rub started (like 1 sec before) so that loss of HP is just from the rubbing. -
How many "Premium" ships you have (not counting ARP and similar)?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - just counted and it's only 99 and my OCD is going mental! -

Glorious Ramming mechanics (aka bugged as F)
IanH755 replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in General Discussion
Watched the replay - you started the "ram" at only 5.6kts and the enemy was moving away from you so you didn't ram the other ship, you just "rubbed" it at slow speed i.e. you slowly lost health points as you "rubbed" and he lost his health points faster than you as you started to heal during the "rub" which is why you "won" - and yes you did lose health slowly at first contact rising to over 200 health points per second of contact at the end. All of that is normal behaviour and has been for a very long time (3+ years) - For an "all points gone instantly" ram you need a closing speed (your speed + his speed) of greater than 5kts so if you're both doing 10kts into each other that equals 20kts closing so instant ram kill whilst you doing 14kts and him running away at -10kts = a "rub" as you only hit him at 4kts so no instant kill. Hope that helps - here's the wiki page about ramming - https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Ramming Remember, Total HP Pool is your maximum HP, not your current HP Ramming below 5 knots results in minor damage Ramming above 5 knots results in major damage Ramming damage dealt to the other ship equals your ships total HP pool Received ramming damage of at least 10% of your ships total HP pool will result in flooding -

[Co-Op] - God I love the Clemson, easily the best T4 "silver" ship in the game for me and an absolute beast in Co-Op, those are usually T10 level damage numbers for Co-Op! -
Joking aside, I've got 100-ish premiums already so I've not much chance of dropping a new one, even got all the "not available anymore" ships. It sucks to be me

While I'm happy for the free stuff it's just a shame that "Super" containers aren't as Super as they used to be now the Armoury contains so much. Still 15 free SC's and a load of special signals is appreciated. Full patch notes are here - https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/game-updates/update-088-fourth-anniversary/

IanH755 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Around 100 but, apart from the Imp Nik I don't play many of the T4 or lower ones which must be a good 20-30 ships worth. I'm struggling to collect coal at a fast enough rate for the Smolensk/Salem/Thunderer and stopped collecting Steel at 5k's worth as it was too painful but the RB ships hold no interest for me. -
Operations - Newport baswe defence - an nightmare !
IanH755 replied to SEN_SEN_Channel_Portugue's topic in General Discussion
The main problem is that because the bots are heading for the same area, you never get to have decent broadside shots from your start position, so you're faced with a lot of bow-on bots which take rapid fire HE to kill - i.e.cruisers - yet because it's T6 cruisers they don't have a heal and most have fairly low range so if they're using the heal area they can't provide enough support to stop the bots entering the port and triggering a whole heap of bots which over-whelm players. I think either a good CV or DD player can make a huge difference, CV's make the bots turn and expose broadside and DD's get to do huge alpha damage to the BB's if played well. -
Operations - Newport baswe defence - an nightmare !
IanH755 replied to SEN_SEN_Channel_Portugue's topic in General Discussion
I've said the same about almost all the Operations - if you have 3 or more 50%+ WR players there's a good chance you'll get 4-5 stars, but when you have 2 or less then it might be a 1-2 star but more like is thats it's a loss because they just carry enough. I posted about 50 Ops results in a previous thread with MxStats data (MM-manager type so you could see the WR make-up of the team) and that was the most common theme, the greater the number of 50%+ WR players the greater the chance of winning with 4+ stars. Now thats not to say that every game with lots of 50%+ players was a win, sometimes people just have a bad game and other times a 43% WR player had a fantastic game, but those were typically outliers. -
Friesland: before you spend your FXP
IanH755 replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
With the bots newish "auto-dodge" ability, unless your torping at point blank, or against a bot who is already 100% focused on another ship, torps can be very situational. However, if you use Torps correctly, with good positioning to catch broadsides at close ranges (<3-4km) etc then torps are amazing in Co-Op as my Okhotnik, Shima, Derpski, T9-10 RN Cruisers, TRB IJN DD's etc show to me. I just find that this ship doesn't suffer "in Co-Op only" for not having them as the gun-power alone is sufficient vs bots. -
Friesland: before you spend your FXP
IanH755 replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
This is from a Co-Op perspective only (there's 30%+ who are Co-Op only IIRC) and there's no real issue with having no Torps that I've found. I've single killed full health Yamato's (put pics in "greatest gaming thread") and found that a 30sec "drive by" with AP knocks about 30k+ health off whatever your shooting at which is fun. Speed is OK, stealth is adequate, Hydro works really well with the 2 min US smoke and the HE is very hard hitting vs other DD's. -
The reason it's still there at low tiers is that T4 is the first CV tier, so lots of players will want to try out the new ship class, which means lots more CV's in the queue so WG made MM give 2-3 CV's per match to reduce the wait time for all the CV players. The option to made games 1 CV per side at T4 would mean huge queues for CV players which is something WG have already said they don't want (for any class really) so it'll not change plus "new" players have a restricted MM pool of players so avoid being Seal Clubbed until they hity T5 which removes all player-protection and thats when new players "hit the wall" and most quit - Think WoWS had a 15-20% retention rate for new players after 1-2 months IIRC.

[Co-Op] - Great Flint game as the bottom tier against 2x Alaskas and the DD, where torps are the great leveller in this game! -

[Co-Op] - First Yudachi game, whilst it may be meh for PvP due to the "seen from orbit" torpedos, in Co-Op it's a strong ship due to that TRB/Smoke combo where, if you position correctly (I always say that about DD's in Co-Op), you can have a great time. It's just a shame the guns are so slow at firing, a 6sec reload would be great (and might make the ship too good) so I demand WG buff my premium ship PS Forgot to add my Special signals hence the low XP/FXP/Credits. -

[Co-Op] - First Friesland game, works well in Co-Op and even mighty Yamato bots don't need torps to kill from nearly full health. I started firing at 14km and he died at about 4km from me, still burning as I swapped to AP which would have finished his remaining 20K health (if it was just me vs Yamato) in under 15 seconds. I was quite surprised by how good the Friesland AP was so did a quick Training room test - A Yamato at 3.4km too just 1 min 26 seconds to die to DD 120mm AP - I walked the shells from bow to stern and superstructure to get maximum HP damage so lots of pens (2772 per salvo every 1.4 seconds dropping to 694 as HP went in that zone), a few over-pens at the bow and shatters on the turrets & main belt but overall quite impressed. Obviously not a realistic test but just a quick example showing that a DD drive-by (say 30 seconds) can knock off 30k+ health easily by just spreading out the shells into zones with good HP still. -

1st SC in over 9 months - didn't feel very "Super" with just 50 fairly worthless camos (for me) as they only give Captain XP but no ship/free XP so using a new Special signal is more effective for me to use when matched with the many 100%/100%/150% camos I've got. Can't be too ungrateful with free stuff I suppose, just wish it was different free stuff. -
Why is the Gneisenau now terrible at AA?
IanH755 replied to The_Norwood's topic in General Discussion
0.8.7 was just WG lurching between AA that is/was "Too OP" to "Too Bad" - over next few patches it will swing around again until 8+ months later we "might" have a decent AA system - a whole 1.5 years after the CV rework started - YAY WG!!!!! -
research bureau - additional reward idea
IanH755 replied to Umbrascythe's topic in General Discussion
It's a good idea for cosmetic changes but I'm not sure RB would be the best way to get them if it was just Cosmetic rewards, unless they were "in addition to....." the current RB rewards.- 7 replies

But there was nothing stopping you playing those games before the RB "forced" you to, which is entirely your choice to do. For me however, if I wanted to play lower tiers I'll just play the lower tier ships I still own like the T3 Derpski , T4 Clemson, T5 Kirov or T6 Dallas etc because I want to for my own entertainment, rather than being "forced" to for reward ships which I feel are unappealing to me. Again, its great that you're enjoying RB's replay, maybe if a reward ship comes up which catches my eye I'll also join you.
