My 'friend' introduced me to WOWS & he set up my 1st Public test account, thinking it would be a laugh to give me a stupid name. Well, the joke has worn off now, so I'd like to change my in game name if that's possible. Thanks.

Higher Tier Ships cost too much to repair/restock
CapNadock replied to CapNadock's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the constructive input. It seems we're arriving at a consensus that the game is arranged to encourage us to play lower tier ships to amass credits, therefore supporting my original point that higher tier ships at least don't earn credits, if not cost credits. My friend who introduced me to this game, often praises it as a progressive, viable game model, pointing out the large & growing number of players. So it seems a bit odd to me that they would design it to encourage lower tier playing, but hey-ho, so be it. On further reflection, I do think it's probably a more pronounced effect when specialising in Japanese Destroyers. Maybe I should embark on a different Nationality of ships but I so prefer Destroyers now, I'll probably stick with them. Anyone care to suggest which Nationality has the best Destroyers? -

That's precisely my point ColonelPete, I shouldn't have to think about ammo/repair cost, I don't imagine any Navy Captains do. I usually win & often come near the top of the team table with my tier 6 Japanese destroyer, so please quit with the cheap insults as to my capabilities thanks. My point remains that higher tier ships cost too much to use in anything but a 'I don't wanna mess my paint job up' way. Ok, so maybe it's a Destroyer bugbear more than other ships, as one of your main roles is up front, spotting enemies, you've got the least HP to rely on to stay alive, plus a volley of torps that don't connect, happens as quick as 1 or 2 shells fired from a Cruiser/Battleship, but they cost a hell of a lot more! Also, I've gone the Japanese route & their Destroyers tend to be strong on torps, weaker on Artillery, so I do tend to rely on my torps, but I play that way with my tier 6 Destroyer & don't have this problem. The result at present is I daren't go out in my tier 7 till I've well stocked up on credits! As, I said originally, it's a balance thing & I think they've got it wrong with higher tier Destroyers at least. I'd be happy to hear what other, higher tier Destroyer players think. -

Hmnn... Play better you say. How do you play better? You practice. Yet higher tier ships behave differently than lower ones. I just tried my 7 destroyer again, didn't get killed, but it still cost me credits. So I'm now at a point where I'm reluctant to use my torpedoes due to their cost, I simply HAVE to survive the match, so I can't be an effective player for my team. Great model that is, I don't think. -
Ok, so it's a 'free' game & they're gonna want to make money, so I get that it's gonna be loaded toward the P2P model. However, I've just had a moderately successful outing in my tier 7 Destroyer, 6th in the table, but it cost me credits to play that match. As with all things in life, there should be balance & I reckon that a mid place in the table shouldn't cost you credits. Ok, if I'd not made any credits, fair enough, but costing me credits? There's probably stuff I could buy with 'real' money, that would help me survive easier or lower my credits cost, but as we all know how tempting it is to buy Premium to ease the relentless XP grind for higher tier Ships, isn't that enough of a money maker?, let alone Premium Ships, bundles etc. Surely the balance is wrong if it costs you credits to do reasonably well. I'm not gonna buy any aids for the 7, just have to grind out credits on my lower tier Ships, but it shouldn't be necessary eh? This seems to suggest it's a P2P model at higher tiers.

Does anyone know how the servers match make visa vie Levels? It seems to me that if you stay below Lvl 4 ships, the battles are much easier, no aircraft etc. However, my sticking point is Lvl 4 as I'm trying to go for The Minekaze, but already went up previous lanes in the Japanese fleet tree to Lvl 4's. I now have 4 ships, 2 Lvl 3's & 2 Lvl 4's. When I play my 3's, no great problems, but when I play my 4's, I find I'm up against Lvl 6 & even 7's sometimes, which is just too hard as I can't match their range or power. Am I right in thinking that Lvl 4 is a sticking point? coz also, the XP needed to progress beyond 4 becomes exorbitant! Maybe this is WOWS P2P point, as trying to grind XP without buying Premium or Dubloons is agonising! Even if you aim to attempt to jump from 3 to 5 or 6 say, you still have to 'research' the previous ships, so bang goes your hard earned XP anyway, whether you buy the ships or not. Has anyone found a good way to progress from Lvl 4 without spending money? Are there any guides that deal specifically with Match making & Lvls? Are there any guides as to tactics against ships 2 or 3 Lvls above you? Thanks.
