Well written and I basically agrgee with all you have written. Interestingly enough I have myself gravitated towards BB play for grinding missions and and playing ranked, despite the fact that I actually prefer DDs and cruisers - and started with playing them. I am by no means a gamer that generally avoids challanges, however, at some point the sheer amount of BBs in each and every game feeds frustration when you are in one of only a few squshi cruisers - and so, it just sometimes feels easier to play BBs. I do think it is a shame how things have developed. I have two tX DDs but have stalled on the Neptune because I simply ran out of steam playing cruisers - even though I actually like the challange of UK cruisers. I can't help but wonder if range in itself would be a source for solving a lot of the problems with BB overpopulation, snipe and hide mentality etc. While same range for all would make WOWs a totally different and even more arcade like game, I would like to see much shorter ranges for BBs, forcing them in play to have a chance of downing anything. I think that alone would give much more dynamics to a battle and would require that you actually play somewhat intelligently to survive in your BB. And with this I am not genaralilsing BB players, I have been up against enough really skilled BB players to knowthey exist and can do a whole lot of difference in a game, as it is now however it is a you say just too easy to e.g. stay in the back and stille feel you contribute even though from a team perspective you actually do not really do anything of significance...

WG we dont need any more radar and hydrophones on literally every ship!
Wildf1re replied to SovietFury43's topic in General Discussion
I feel you. It was not really until I got my Kagero that I seriously struggled with radar - although I had encountered them before (and got deleted quick). I required a very different playstyle for my part, much less agressively pushing caps, e.g. waiting for the enemy to start capping so I had an idea of where opposinf DDs was and tryin to spot the radar ships before making a move. Basivcally a very deliberate and carefull play that in my mind makes the game more boring. No doubt, I think that the introduction of radar into wows has been a bad thing overall (noy only when I play DDs). That said, it is possible to "play around it" to a large degree, although I get tired of reading the "git gud" like comments that invariably follows if you dare express your frustration in this fora. But look around the different posts regarding/relatying to radar (and hydro) there are some good advice burried here and there. And then, sometimes U are just F''*** and the opposing team, like a recent game today, where the enemy have several radar ships and somehow coordinate/sequence the use of them really good, add to that I am in a TVII vs mostly TIX with about 5-6 other DDs around on both sides. Zigging and Zagging, mini mapping to keep track of radar ships and trying to spot, contest cap and so on becomes micro managing and feels like mission impossible - even when staying at the edge of radar range you'll invarially be spottet for a few seconds and you quickly get widdled down in health - and even though I manage to sink a ship and do okay (and we won) I was just feeling irritated by the playstyle radar enforces. Yes, "git good" is a way forward but we can't all be unicums or play 8h a day, there should be room for casual play(ers) and at least for me radar has been the single most disruptive "invention" for me in wows - even if I am learning to account for it. -
This is the last season of ranked for me, until something changes.

Swearing - or sometimes just laughing... Just had a ranked game were a Tirpitz happily went into a suicide run, leaving a cap that was just about to turn the tide for our team. He got killed and then happily announced he was a Hero, because 145000 dmg! (most of the team face palmed in chat) A heoric DD had tried supporting him and got wiped and to make a long story short, we was suddenly in a sure loose situation. Adding to the tragic comedy was the fact that when I and a DD on the opposing was the only ships left, with little time left and a huge points lead for them - the DD decided to play cat and mouse risking a sure win... and lost. This just after I had mused in chat that it would be a hopeless endeavor to chase down a DD in a BB... we won, but to me - especially the Tirpitz remark - says it all :). Would be really good to look into how teamplay and play for the win could be encouraged clearly, actually both in ranked and random. -

It's nice to see some constructive suggestions for supporting a more active gameplay and play for the win - even if it's funded in frustration. I am having some really bad ranked games today, but when all is said and done mostly people actually try to play for the team in my experience and I am sure that allotment of exp and credits that visibly encourages teamplay and play for the win would emphasise that. Could be good for randoms too... Don't know if you suggestions would work in practise, but I like the ideas. As I get the feeling that many players are not fond of reading too much and just want to press battle, i belive that "in Your Face" updates at battel end with numbers for where you got your most exp/credits would be a good addition to some "tweeks" that encourage capping, supporting capping etc... -
I get that picture, have been alternating between tier 6 - 8 ~ 9 the last day's and my previous impressions have been confirmed. Camping is rampant at high tiers - very much less so at lower tiears. I would suspect that the risk of actually loosing credits have a role to play - at make a mistake, get stomped on and loose credits... Everybody is playing soooo carefully it's making me stir crasy sometimes... Can't know for sure of cause, but am thinking many people play to get to higher tiers and when there use high tier ships to earn credits for buyin ships on other lines etc. Anyway, could it be so simple as to loose = you get no credits (also you don't loose credits), you win = you are rewarded credits and xp etc. Of cause the risk would be that many would not play under such harsh loosing conditions, but guess påeople sure would play for the win...

And that's exactly the kind of attitude that might make me NOT want to teamplay as a DD. Hey U died trying to do good by your team. We did not deliver support as promised, that'¨s your fault?? What?

What the heck. Just played a batle and when battle ended (win) and the results where to appear it took a long time with a black background and then it just went to port. After I could see tyhat no addtionalo xp where registered on the ship I played. I have ahd disconnects wince a recent update - as I have seen others have - but nothing ilke his where the xp just poff vanished. What the h... :(

I enjoy playing all ship classes and have generally enjoyed the game since I started on the NA server, later moving here to the EU server. However, I have to say that the fun factor are diminishing. One thing is the constant 5 vs 5 BB matches, which - for me - isn't even fun playing BB (and they keep comming up with more BBs to add to the game?). But the sheer nature of suicide cap for DD's is really bringing me down. Even if playing (very) carefully and not yolo'ing into capping or taking agressive runs at BBs - the radar is just breaking the DD game. Oh, I enjoy taking out a DD when playing cruiser, but I could do that before radar came into play... But DD's are extremely hard to play with radar abounding, too hard I think. Was just in a game, at the edge of possible radar range and sure enough once the cap started colloring - ding - someone pops radar. I am spotted and before I am out of range I am down to half hp with shells from four ships from across tha map raining down on me. Okay I sneak and pop in again after radar have had its run, but - ding - someone else pops radar. This time I am behind rock, so no problem. I wait, radar times out and slowly mopve forward when - ding - another one pops radar and I am gone in seconds taking shells from three ships... Either you die fast as a DD or you stay back until - presumably - all radars are exhausted and then you can contribute at the end of the game :( It's just not fun, the range a horrific on radar, never mind the usual risks you have of being spotted by planes, spotter planes and other DD's... Oh, well. That was todays cry... Just needed to vent a bit. Thanks :)

Ya, let's have more BBs... hmm...

each his own... If I wanted to play chess, tahs what I would be doing. Never the less, it can be fun and is an aspect of the game to find you window of opportunity, but this is being forced into a very narrow (defensive) playstyle...
-
I have no problem with the upcomming smoke nerf, nor that stealt firing has dissapeared. But Radar is in my opinion if not outright breaking dd play as it is now, its making dd play too difficult and has taken the much fun away from playing dd's as you hav to be exeedingly defensive...
-
Well... if you don't try to do something, raise a concern, you can be sure nothings going to happen... So, I express my concern. As for removing radar, hmm, that does not neccesarily have to the solution. I belive it's breaking DD gameplay as its implemented now, too many ships have it and its too powerfull, I mean even a BB have it ... Removing it would be an "easy" quick fix (I can at least hope:), altering how it works and how many ships have it, another way to do it.
-
He, does that work for you? Maybe I've been unlucky but my team generally seems to vanish and hide such a dangerous ship amd aksed to support ;).
-
Oh, I'm being very tactical :). Does not make me like radar more... and sometimes its hard ignoring your teams outrage when you leave a cap for exactly that reason. But you're right, now we just need the BBs to push forward and the few cruisers too - although as I play them myself I get why they wanna stay at max range :). Hey, I can always go back to low tier and yolo into caps, thats still fun but kin of defeats grinding upper tier...
-
Again, agree. Both in the good advice and in that's not making DDs totally useless. However, for me it IS changing the way I play DDs and I see many other DDs that are very hesitant in domination matches. It's high tiers with the long ranges and people are (as they should be) quick too zoom in on a DD, so it's extremely frustrating taht you can't even benefit from a low detectablity - which should be a DDs strength. Radar makes capping a suicide prone run even when you are cautious adding to the already passive play so prevalant - which again I think is sad.
-
True, but not effective when two-three ships in the vicinity have radar and (smartly enough) uses them in sequence, holding off when another have already popped radar. Something I have experienced quite a few times - that way you can have quite a few minutes ticking by just evading - and evading - and evading... if you live that long. Anyway, I am not saying you cannot counter it, just that with CV planes and spotter planes and radar, well it's taking the fun out of playing DDs. I like DDs because they are hard to play, but this has become a bit too much.
-
Exactly my point, less fun which is a damned shame. I get sleepy with the passive wary gameplay that more and more adopt including myself. It's good advice under the circumstances and I do heed them most of the time, even to the point of forgetting I have smoke - because smoke equals game over many times :(.

Thanks for the encouragement :)

question about winrate (and i need something off my mind)
Wildf1re replied to Minoranis's topic in General Discussion
We can't all be unicums and when you play games where everybody can join - good or bad - the focus should be on having fun, not on bringing other players down in chat... or otherwise. That said, it is as you say a teamplay and you should also do your best to support the team in winning, with whatever ability you have. -

Wildf1re replied to Minoranis's topic in General Discussion
Ehh, think you misread my post. I don't think I'm a baddie nor did I say WR is luck. Just saying that other things than pure skills can affect your WR AND that i do not put much emphasis om WR, but rather on having fun playing. -
question about winrate (and i need something off my mind)
Wildf1re replied to Minoranis's topic in General Discussion
Really... Doing something actively wrong?? I have experienced higly fluctuating "luck" of the draw with a big impact on winrate. Like being in a loose streak that seems to go on forever with team after team losing, day after day. Highly frustrating especially if yourself and a few others have practically dominated caps and halved the other team - only to see the rest of the team loose it all when the "good" ships finally goes down after having taken the brunt of fighting. Or... win streak, where everything just seems to go my way or the teams that I'm on, even if I play like s***. No, I don't think you can conclude that so easily. Many things impact WR, including the luck of the draw so to make WR a measure of skill is in my opinion very wrong and I for one don't credit WR with much importance. Anyway, to OP. Games are made to have fun, some poople just forget that sometimes and others are just born complainers. Just block the d*ckh**ds and enjoy your game. If you're having fun with it that's whats important not what others think. -
I have played quite a while on the NA server and are now playing on the EU server. Despite numerous battles, it's only now I have found out there is a Karma number representing your reputation as a factor of compliments/report. I am surprised that this number is not much more prominently displayed e.g. in chat besides the nickname and/or the team summery screen (when you press tab). I would think it would be a very good ide to have it much more visible to yourself and other players. It could - in my mind - help to achieve a better community culture in terms of people behaving (better) in chat and in gameplay. As it is it feel like you are complimenting/reporting into a void and certainly the effect of the karma number is limited as a tool to encourage good behavior and a nice community.

The mechanism is already in place, I just suggest using it with more visibility.
