I just want to point out that the whole turtledeck armor thing was not some mythical German invention, it is shared by all battleships of WWI design (except US all-or-nothing types). So Warspite actually has the same thing underneath, whether this is modeled or left to be the "special" German thing in game is another matter. Also I feel Warspite's penetration is lacking. I got the ship recently and while I am really enjoying it and getting good damage, I rarely get citadels. Even Fuso/Kongo are hard to citadel at close range. I remember reading somewhere that basically the shells have armor penetration characteristics (Krupp value in game I think) based on crappy WWI shells not representing what she would use modernised (we have a 1942 version). From what is know of other ships stock vs. B hull (NM, Colorado, Nagato etc.) the penetration improves dramatically with new shells. I believe this is missing and with the right shells Warspite should hit harder than Bayern (except at very close range where higher velocity is more important than shell weight).

Not sure about the in-game stats but IRL Warspite fired heavier shells. Does she get better penetration or damage per shell for that?

Any info of how(IF!) USN CV gameplay is going to get changed?
VC381 replied to vaskemaskina's topic in Aircraft Carriers
"Narrow" I mean the distance between the torp on the far left of the spread and the one on the far right is less for IJN than USN. And for IJN the drop converges. Yes of course it's a pretty hard task to hit all 8, but it's even harder to hit all 6 with USN. You said it yourself IJN typically hit 4 to 6, and that becomes 6 to 9 from Taiho. USN typically hit 3 to 4 except maybe at T9/10 where all the BBs are very long and turn slow. -
Given how much fun it is to bomb Tirpitz anyway, everyone playing their new Scharnhorst for the first time is fair game for a decent Hiryu. Good idea Kyoshi!

VC381 replied to vaskemaskina's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Might I point out US TB spread is pretty wide and except for really long ships like Iowa it's very hard to hit all 6 torps, even harder against people dodging. Meanwhile, 2x4 narrow spread has greater hit potential. Then you get 3 squads with Taiho and a monkey will hit at least 6 (same as full US TB squad) while a good player will hit 10 to 12. And while IJN DBs don't compare for raw damage they are very accurate, basically no RNG on anything bigger than a DD. Still quite useful. So yeah since when exactly are IJN CVs useless compared to US ones? -

I can understand when people play AS Bogue deliberately because they want to farm "Clear Sky". I hate it because if played well it makes life a misery for the enemy CV but at least I can see a reason. The rest is as Kyoshi said, Indy stock and strike after that. Strike Lex is glorious, my new favorite thing recently. -
What tier will the rest of the Battleship/Battlecruiser/Largecruiser/supercruisers hybrids end up in
VC381 replied to Affeks's topic in Battleships
By main armament, armor etc. (basically anti-ship stats) neither are on balance different enough to each-other, or better than Scharnhorst for that matter, by enough to be T8 material, now that WG has essentially shown us this is how they want to handle "super-cruisers" (as mid tier BBs). So it all depends on how the AA is implemented in game. My gut feeling was that Alaska is a clear win in this department, maybe that's not the case.- 10 replies

Cleveland, Indianapolis, New Orleans. Of course, if we're talking about brawling other cruisers not anything else.

Not really, I'm basing that on the real life ships and how those compare to the ships the other nations got at those tiers. Of course they could be buffed for game balance, anything can happen, but Leander is a ship with 8 x 152mm guns, paper armor and not even that fast at a tier currently populated by Aoba, Cleveland and Budyonny. You don't need to see stats for that to worry you... -

All light, fantasy only at T9-10 which is expected because the RN didn't build really big cruisers during the war like some other navies. My concern is T5 and 6 look too weak compared to their counterparts. But still a great selection of historical ships, I like it! -

VC381 replied to Affeks's topic in Battleships
I would say that their design and concept are similar enough that they should all be T7 except maybe Alaska where that AA suite would be a bit crazy. I would rather she was a bit weak a tier higher than have a fantasy nerfed AA configuration, she can get a special bonus e.g. RADAR, defensive fire consumable or cruiser dispersion to compensate.- 10 replies

You are right but I think CVs can and do have a huge impact on the game, and that's why you notice when they play badly. All I'm saying is a good CV player doesn't need to deliberately spot. He already knows what is a good target (yes DD is often the best target) and he will spot really as a side effect to attack, and he knows not to waste time going for pointless targets or flying on the border. So all the things you say, we don't really need incentives for CVs to do them but there is a huge gap between good and bad CV players and it makes a much bigger difference to the game so you notice it more.
-
I'm sorry but you literally quoted the block of text where I explained exactly what ShinGetsu did and asked the question again immediately underneath, and I wasn't the first to say it either. Also, it's going to take you months to grind back the credits you spent to buy Colorado? Hmm...
-
We already have an incentive, you get more credits for % HP damage to ships. So CVs that know what to do, they won't spot DDs... They'll blow them out of the water first thing! But you need to get good at manual drop for that. As for teamwork, let's just politely say you can't rely on other people (although I thank all those friendly CA that gave me snipe cover, sometimes without me even asking!). You can spot a DD sometimes nobody will shoot it. I agree wasting time border hugging is not good, but CVs carry by damage not support. You can send all your fighters to save someone and they still eat 3 torps and blame you, then don't hit anything all game. Or you can make sure your strike gets through and takes out a key enemy. Sorry, I choose option 2.
-
Depends how long ago you played, what you thought was OP then and what you expect and want to be good at. Generally US air superiority decks will rule the sky but have terrible damage potential. So you can "cancel" the enemy CV but you are essentially relying on your team to win the 11 vs 11 without you. You'll get tons of air kills and make life a misery for the other CV but won't make decent XP, money or win rate from it. Also depends heavily on tier. Do you have specific ships in mind?
-
You've had your question about how you made more credits with less damage answered multiple times, but you choose to ignore this and just repeat the question. Fair enough you want to be able to play the ship without making a loss and you should be able to. But at some point you need to swallow your pride, go play something that makes a good profit and buy the modules if the stock grind is giving you so much pain. Then when it's fully upgraded go to all the other Colorado threads, try to learn to play it and if you still don't like it sell it and forget about it. The credit issue only gets worse from here...
-
There is no "best", it's what you enjoy more. Also each nation might be "best" at one tier and "worst" at another so there is no absolute. Sorry but the question is too simplistic, there is no right answer!
-
Camo is basically pointless on a BB, there's money saved right there. If you're careful you can do fine without premium consumables as well. Every little helps. Sounds like you need to find a balance between being so aggressive you die first and so passive you don't get anything done. Total damage isn't a good measure of credits earned, because it's skewed by tier and % of target total health. So if you get a devastating strike on a higher tier cruiser that might be 30k damage and if you hit nothing else all game you'll still get more credits than doing 60k damage spread across several lower tier BBs. Also look for achievements, things like shooting ships to deny cap (green flag ribbons) get you credits. But T7 should not be the loss-making point for average non-premium players. If you do fine in other ships it might just be Colorado isn't for you, or I refer you to all the other replies with tips (I don't have this ship). I do have a Nagato though and occasionally make a loss, but no offense I need to be derping pretty hard for that to happen.

Yup, we're on the same page just clarifying a misunderstanding although other people are complaining about the hangar and rear citadels so there might be something fishy there.
-
Also the superstructure thing doesn't quite make sense and people are misunderstanding the all-or-nothing concept. Warspite had progressively thinner armor belts on the hull, so she should take normal pens on the upper hull and on bow/stern. These are the areas the US ships left unarmored to save weight for the thicker citadel. But if we're talking about the hangar and bridge area, these should be overpens on both US ships and Warspite. She didn't have an armored hangar, most of that tall box bridge has only splinter protection except for a small conning tower. So if she's taking full pen damage to the upper structure or citadels through the hangar that's just plain wrong.
-
I got it thanks to the sale over the last few days and to be honest I regret not buying sooner. She does have a weakness in that she takes a lot of normal pen damage from BB AP, even well angled, and the 5s repair is a bit awkward with fires, but overall feels strong. I'm not sure about actual bugs with the armor, I think most were fixed. And guns are best in Tier at everything except how many of them you get, which hardly matters because they are pinpoint accurate. First game I got 5 citadels in 2 salvos, back to back deleted two cruisers from full HP.

T6 French Premium: Battleship Dunkerque Disappoints
VC381 replied to Pupu_prpr's topic in Battleships
Armor is important if you plan to slug it out with another BB. The point of ships like this (and battlecruisers in general) is that you use your speed to be where you need to be and hunt cruisers, and just avoid getting shot up by BBs completely. At T6 where every other BB barely scrapes 23 knots this shouldn't be difficult at all. You don't fight the enemy BBs yourself, you wipe out the rest of their team then run away from them and leave them to your DDs or something.- 241 replies

I'm also a Pensacola fan through and through. I would add New Orleans to that list as well. Also Karlsruhe, I don't know why but I have great memories of that little tin tub.

I take your point, and he does say that it's fun. I don't need this ship to be OP, I was just trying to understand how the criticism fits into the bigger picture.- 241 replies
