Thanks everyone for the input. The Essex strike load out is definitely serviceable: I've already managed to make 200k damage with it and I'm a below average carrier player by stats with little experience of the class (I pretty much free xped the entire line ). It just feels a little stale at times due to the similarities to the Lexington.

Hello Back again, this time for the Essex. Have to say I'm a little disappointed by the Essex, it just seems to be a clone of the Lexington, the only difference being you get a fighter this time with the strike loadout. But whatever. So, what loadout should be used on the Essex and how do people think it fairs against the Taiho? Cheers

Hello folks, I'm working my way up the USN carrier line (because I like collecting ships) and I'm having some trouble with the Lexington. I use the strike loadout (the one with no fighters) and when the enemy team also has a strike set up Lexington I manage to okay, however if the enemy team has a Shokaku or a a Lexi with fighters I tend to become completely useless Now my stats are below average so I guess I'm doing something wrong in this ship. Any tips for working with the above situation? Also is the USN carrier line worth it? It seems you must usually choose between being able to damage surface ships or having fighters. Cheers.
