It is not weird in my case. I am a strictly grind captain. I grind though the tech tree and very seldom return to grinded ships. Because why I have to play Gniesnau, when I have Bismarck to grind, and so on. So why my top played ships are premium? Because when I need to play lower tiers (for my division or I want lower tier battle) why I have to choose non-premium ships? If I had to play it is better for me to take better economy and free XP ship, then normal one. So I don't take them for better statistics, just for the premium economy (which is normal - you pay for the economy). Why my stats are better on premium ships? They are not OP. They can have something that normal ship doesn't have. But the captain drives the ship. Use the advantages and avoid disadvantages of your ships. And play for fun. Not the stats. Of course try to be better in the process.

At 7:00 AM there is some 3000 on EU. On NA there is 5000 players in a peak time while on EU over 20k. So I believe the NA and SEA servers would wait too long for a +/- 1 MM. But hey! EU is a different server then others. We have worst different events, bonuses, missions, we are late with new ships so... why we cannot have other MM?

I would like to try the +/- 1 MM. See how it works. And I think it would be better.
