I was arguing against the idea that an AS loadout was fundamentally worse and that one hit from the strike player means that he "won" the carrier battle. Assuming similar skill I still think defensive loadouts are undervalued due to only having an indirect effect on the flow of battle. If you're better with fighters then it's probably better for you and the team. If not, go for something else. It's also possible that when I experienced those differences the other CV player may have had a purely strike loadout and as such had no defence at all against the fighters. So as I think most players say, a balanced loadout is probably the best.

So that's where all the DDs went. Soo... is more premiums good or bad? On one side you have the useless wallet warriors. On the other side you have the hardcore players in generally powerful premiums. Which are you most likely to have on your team, and which are more likely to be on the enemy team?
-
That's not quite true. If you with an AS setup can deny most of the map to the enemy carrier your team gains a massive spotting advantage. You might not deal direct damage to enemy ships, but you help to prevent damage done if you can spot torpedoes in time and spot enemy DDs for your team to shoot down. I don't play carriers, but I've felt the effects of both sides of this playing DDs. On one side you can cruise around throwing torps around with impunity and on the other side you feel like you can't do anything without getting spotted or having your torps spotted.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Runegrem replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
I managed to sink a battleship with three salvos of torpedoes, from my Shchors. It has one launcher on each side, 101s reload and 4km range. It started around the 13 minute mark if I remember correctly. http://wowreplays.com/Replay/13348 -
I've heard you don't turn pink in the very rare occasion that you sink a friendly ship by ramming though. I've had that happen to me once, which is the only time I've seen it, but that was before the change in pink rules.

Getting to the Kiev doesn't actually help you build a lot of situational awareness for torping safely since I don't remember any of the Russian DDs before the Tashkent at tier 8 having a torp range over 4km, which is short enough that little bad can happen unless you torp directly at an ally. The Zao on the other hand has a lot of ships before it with 10km torpedoes. And cruisers tend to fight from the second line, so that should really build some awareness.

It's only tier 10, why exactly? That seems like it just excludes most players for no good reason. Gameplay itself seems fine though, it's like domination but with a little extra going on. But like mentioned, you can't raise your guns high enough to aim at the installations in the mountains. Also, xp seem far to low. It's like a tier 10 game with tier 4 xp or something. Or maybe coop, but I haven't played that in a long time.

Just a few hours ago I first got 7 days premium for free, then I got another free day, and then another. So 9 days of premium for free. That's really sweet.
-
The Novik? I had a blast with that one during the Russian cruiser competition a while back. But as for underperformers, I haven't really seen any battleship at tier II-III be any good at all. Not counting the St. Loius, which is certainly as tough as one.
-
I've noticed the same thing happening, but only on one map. That map where some of the ships start in the ports. Don't remember the name. So it probably has to do with the ambient light on the map.

For some reason, my first thought at reading this, and not reading very carefully, was that it was about your average high tier BB.

I'd say I'm a slightly above average player (54% winrate) who plays any ship that doesn't play like an RTS game. I prefer DDs though, especially Russian ones. Fun is more important than winning so I don't get too mad if I have a good game and lose anyway. This means I play aggressively in all ships and consider HP a resource to be used in every battle. So if I lose a battle and survive, something's gone wrong. I'd say I'm fairly good at shooting guns, but not so good at tactics or shooting torpedoes. And feel free to call yourself good or bad no matter your stats, but I see average as meaning statistically average, which means it's not subjective.

Not bad. I wish I met more of those kinds of enemies instead of having them on my team.

Magazine detonation - remove it already
Runegrem replied to BruceForce's topic in General Discussion
Yes, detonations are purely based on skill. So my superior skill is clearly proven by these two detonations. http://wowreplays.com/Replay/6532-Runegrem-Aurora-Big-Race Am I for or against detonations? Eh. -
I've gotten 7 kills with the Novik and 7 with the Clemson. Also, I got neither High Caliber nor Confederate in the Clemson match. Take that as you will.
-
Well, there is the sadly underused Encounter mode, which usually works out in a similar manner. It also makes it harder for players to run away and hide in a corner of the map.
-
Not sure about the kills, but I've certainly had 1.5k xp games where I lost. Often due to not being able to go back and defend the base in a slow BB. But I can offer one advice: Carry harder.
-
I like all game modes, but domination is slightly better. I also prefer encounter over standard for a mode based more on just sinking the enemy team. I wish we had more maps with that mode.
-
Well, the Umikaze is a ship that works well in about all tiers. It doesn't have the most damaging torps, but it can fire them often, and the ship is really tiny.

If Wargaming wants DDs to play more offensive..
Runegrem replied to saltfish_COD's topic in General Discussion
Yeah. When I play as a cruiser I think those so called fighter planes are really good for spotting, if somewhat unreliable since they circle your ship without your control. And if I'm about to die and don't have one up I send it up to spot after I die. But as a DD captain I'm more annoyed that I don't see the distance to those planes than anything else. I can deal with the planes themselves, but not having that info makes it harder than it should be. -
I usually die to AP as well, in both BBs and CAs. Unless I screw up and get torped to death. But I don't actually know how much fire damage I take since the results screen doesn't show it. Or it didn't last time I checked. It really should be there. Edit: At tier III you also have the cruisers Bogatyr, Aurora and St. Louis which are really good at setting fires. And at tier IV there's the Svietlana with about as many guns that never stop firing.
-
Only HE is useable with 130mm guns? From what I remember of the ship the Svietlana's shell arc isn't too terrible and if at close enough ranges you can deal a lot of damage with AP if the enemy shows his broadside. And you don't have to hit citadels to do better damage than with HE.
-
I actually have just a hard/easy time hitting things with BBs at 7m as at 15km. Somehow it feels like the shots spread just as much no matter the distance. Though maybe that's just because it's easier to remember long range hits and short range misses than more expected hits and misses.
-
From what I've seen I'm really unsure about the time requirement since I've gotten the achievement after torping a ship and then waiting a minute or so for the flooding to sink it.
-
I normally only had trouble with joining in time for the first one or two battles of each session, which is why I always played BBs those matches, but after the game had loaded the files once it went on fairly smoothly. But I have to say that the loading issue being solved is probably the best thing with this patch.
