I've had one game there, in Kagero. I was literally sitting still in the dead centre for half the battle throwing some torpedoes here and there to deny access, with few ships doing anything of note (while my side still died like flies), so when the enemy finally decided to attack, I didn't have any backup at all.

Couldn't they powercreep the new IJN DDs in a direction that actually benefits them, then?
-
That's the kind of opinion I think should be stuffed up somewhere dark and very personal. A little smack talk, sure, that's fine. Insulting isn't, regardless of what type of game it is (well, exception being actual roleplaying, if it's in role). Just because it happens or is common isn't an excuse for it. It's not something you should be required to take if you want to play a PvP game. People who think insults are fine are the ones who deserve to be insulted. Personally I see far less toxicity in WoWs than many other PvP games. If you're used to what happens in some other games, it's downright pleasant. Most of the time it's not more than relatively mild insults when they do happen. I've on a few times encountered the worse kind, like antisemitism, and in most of those cases someone has asked everyone else to report them (usually with one or two verbal agreements). That also happens most of the time when I see more excessive abuse as well.

Fears about the IJN destroyer line rework
AnotherDuck replied to Kanmen's topic in General Discussion
Not to mention that most IJN DDs already underperform, and those that perform well (Minekaze and Fubuki, mainly) aren't actually OP anyway. -
Won't speak for cruisers and battleships, but the USN destroyers are overall good. For destroyers, especially in higher tiers, they're good all-around, with good guns, torps, detection, manoeuvrability, and AA. They lack in the long-range accuracy due to aiming for the moon, but in good conditions they can outshoot most ships. Most ships, not just most destroyers. Their torpedoes are in some aspects better than the torp-centric IJN torps, which is plain BS (on the part of crap IJN torps, but that's a different topic). They're fast and agile. Not as fast as the Russians, but more agile. Their AA guns work well enough, even if they don't come up to the larger ships in capability there.

Could new proposed economy changes tackle the big problem of non-CAPing DDs (especially at high Tier)?
AnotherDuck replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in Archive
As mostly a DD player (IJN and USN), I always cap if I'm supported. If I'm not supported, I still try to cap, but I'm more careful about it. Overall, I find that I get support most of the time, if the ships decide to focus in my direction. Half the time, they choose to focus on the other caps, which is perfectly fine. I find that I actually very rarely get complete campers in my team. It happens, but they're usually potatoes in other aspects. Russian high tier DDs aren't as much DDs as they're fast CLs. Don't expect them to cap if the cap is contested by heavier ships. If the cap is only contested by DDs, especially unescorted DDs, they can, and should, cap. Personally, I find they make for one of the best support ships when I'm capping in IJN DDs, and often the most reliable support at that. I find that on T10, 5 km away is fairly reasonably for CAs, and 7-8 km for BBs. It depends on the situation, but they normally shouldn't get closer than that. 10 km is a little too far away, but if there are enemies close, it might just be prudent for them to keep their distance, especially if the enemies are in greater numbers. CAs, if they face BBs, should normally operate at or close to their max range. I once got told to go cap a cap contested by two BBs. I was in a half-health ARP Myoko. Then again, my allies sunk one of them, and I torped the other (and then I got the cap), so it was really more, "you go cap while we shoot down any threat to you". Still my best game in that ship, but sadly the replay doesn't work anymore. -
I like Epicentre. It's fun. Then again, I mostly play DDs, and BBs following that. Still don't mind it in cruisers, though.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
AnotherDuck replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Met T_H_0_R in his Scharnhorst just now, while I captained König. He was playing with potatoes. I was playing with potato farmers. He did reasonably well, considering he faced superior numbers (and got top of his team). I think I also did reasonably well, at third place with a T5 BB in a match with only four non-T7 ships per team (two T5 and two T6). A little too much time was spent getting into range, and I was on the flank with less action. -
I don't really care about the swastika. For me it's just a symbol, but I understand that some people are sensitive about it, since mass murder in a game isn't the same as mass murder in real life history, and that symbol does unfortunately carry that connotation.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
AnotherDuck replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Today I managed to grind up a Campy. Dusted off my ever-cursed Nagato. Even managed to get a higher win rate (by a whole %, I think), and the average damage wasn't bad. Tiers are very favourable for her at the moment. Most were mid tier, and about a third top tier. Still get a fair bunch of fail teams who think camping is the way to go in Epicentre, and those who get obliterated by a numerically inferior force. Had a fun battle on Two Brothers where the plan was to push west and take a small force to delay the enemy on the east, myself included. Well, no plan survives contact with the enemy. Or rather, no plan survives a lack of contact with the enemy. I didn't get to fire my guns until I was almost in the enemy cap. Thankfully, that time the enemy was the fail team. Our 70% strong won against their 100% strong force, and then us on the east flank got to get in on the action as well. Not a great amount of xp, but it was kinda funny. -
Playing while not being seen amounts to nothing if you can't accomplish something with it. But to reliably hit with torps you need to get reasonably close, and if you get that close, there are a lot of things that can detect you. If a DD heads your way and you're not heading straight away, you're going to get detected. If there's a competent or lucky CV, you're going to get detected. If there's a radar within shooting range, you're going to get detected. If you're detected, you can count on losing a large chunk of your health if anything hits at all. Sure, IJN DDs are easy to play. To actually accomplish more than a camper? Not so much.

This thread was brought to you by Sendai. I'd like to see actual night battles as well, with a bonus to concealment to all ships, but firing your guns removes that bonus temporarily.
-
I actually use Kagero's 20 km torps on occasion, but only if I also have Torp Acceleration (which brings them down to 16 km), and with the Torpedo Reload Booster. They're not great for hitting stuff (although I did get a 15 km torp kill last Kagero match I played). They are better for area denial or forcing enemies to turn, though. For shorter distances, I find it doesn't actually matter that much. I don't really have a great deal more success with the faster ones.

Shima is overall the worst performing T10 ship. Something abusable in that ship wouldn't exactly break anything, especially with how invisifire isn't nearly as effective as people make it out to be.
-
Second is a good argument. First is not. I wonder, what compensation would you give to what's currently one of the worst performing lines in the game, even with this "skill-less torpedo spamming"? You'd have to buff the guns enough that the ships can perform well enough without torpedoes. And probably speed as well. Which means you're getting closer to the other nations' DDs in terms of how they play, so you're basically just reducing the variance of the DDs. You could also give the IJN torps their more historical performance, with greater damage and range, and far less detectabiltiy. A cap on the number of torpedo reloads would also affect the lower tiers far more, since they have reasonably rapid reloading torps. You're going to go through a lot more torpedo reloads in an Umikaze than in a Shimakaze.
-
Only thing, CVs are even harder to play. But it's useful to at least try out CV play for a few matches. Yeah. Most IJN DDs are at the low end of the performance lists for players, even if they're still popular. If they were that easy, average players would've gotten better results, since they have more than enough skill to play them if the previous claim were true. Personally I've always found BBs to be the easiest class to play. Most forgiving to mistakes with that huge HP pool and good armour, and you don't have to have good reflexes for anything.

A question of morality. Was I right or wrong? What would you have done?
AnotherDuck replied to Tigdam's topic in Archive
Abandon the idiots to their own devices and play your own game. Or steal their kills; that's often funny, even if it might not be efficient. -
The most disgusting way I've been sunk personally was when a carrier just led his planes over me when the enemy planes were tailing him. I was in a DD, trying to cap, didn't have smoke ready, and then I got spotted and shot down. As much of a teamkill as second-line torps. People who sink last because they're sniping cowards should be ashamed of themselves. Usually doesn't include carriers, because they should cower at the back. But not too far back.

I think the idea is good, but if a bunch of it is in Russian, those parts are kind of useless. A list of mods included would be great. It's not really necessary for people like myself who don't care about download speeds or amounts, but for others it might be an issue. But just a list of what you're actually downloading is just proper, rather than downloading a mystery packet. I have to say I've not tried it yet, and still using a selection from Aslain's pack. Gonna check it out later, probably.

My greatest achievement today was to not throw out my computer because of the continued bad streak with fail teams. -
Fears about the IJN destroyer line rework
AnotherDuck replied to Kanmen's topic in General Discussion
Well, WG hates torpedoes, and do everything they can to remove them from the game and any ship that relies on them. Well, they pretend to not remove them, and instead just nerf them as much as they can get away with. Their answer to some of the IJN DDs being at the bottom of the perfomance lists is to make every other IJN DD follow suit. IJN torpedoes are vastly overestimated by almost everyone, WG especially included. -
I don't find Fuso to be any less accurate than Nagato. I find that the main difference is that Fuso can more reliably delete cruisers, because of the smaller guns. I also get just as many straddle shots with Nagato, so I've never bought the "higher accuracy" claim. Well, that, and that I always end up in crap teams if I play Nagato. One of my worst winrates of all ships, without really having much worse performance.
-
Today I wasn't actually top tier once for three battles in a row at T5. That's very rare for me. Almost like clockwork, every third game is top tier when I play, and has been for months, counting T5-T8.
-
I think the only team play it would encourage is hanging back until your teammates die so you can pick up their experience, now in more ways than before.
-
I get a chuckle out of these forum warriors who think their opinions are absolute fact, and then they make stuff up to discredit other opinions with personal attacks and other crap.
