    Who's fault is it?

Last time I blamed the CV was when she led planes over my DD while I was trying to stealth cap. Was out of smoke, and enemies could just shoot me down. Last time I blamed someone else for me dying and us losing was when I got torped by a "friendly" Atago. Who tried to torp a half-health Benson under fire by about four ships, with no way those torps would hit before she went under. But other than that, CVs haven't really done much to bother me. It's a tough class to play, both in terms of gameplay and in terms of verbal abuse.

Ranked Battles S5 [all rank battle topics merged]

I had a ranked game with only cruisers and destroyers once. I didn't whine about not having big, fat, juicy xp piñatas to torp. Was a fun game for everyone. If you think a class is lacking in the game, play it. After all, playing as a rare but much needed class should mean you have a lot of carry potential. So go do that. But don't complain about there being too many DDs. They're not the ones driving away the CAs. That would be the BBs. The ones you're playing. Be part of the solution instead of the problem you're complaining about.
  3. You want this smiley for trolling: On the other hand, the IJN CAs are the ones who can delete you the fastest. IJN has great HE in all ships, the CAs often have it loaded, and they have good dispersion and shell arcs. That's the approach I sometimes take, if I don't get good support. I just tell them that either they shoot down the radar cruiser, or I go elsewhere and play torpedo sniper. Seeing through islands is probably the worst thing about radars.

    crying battleships want everything nerfed

If you want a more historical way to balance battleships, make the price tag historically accurate compared to the smaller ships. How many more times do you want to pay for your historically accurate battleships compared to what cruiser and destroyer players pay for buying and repairing ships?

    crying battleships want everything nerfed

What's considered "smart use"? Something you say so you can exclude how battleships do far more average damage than any other class of ships, except carriers? Battleships do more average damage than destroyers at all tiers. Well, if you want an exception, Umikaze does more average damage than Mikasa. (By the way, is 2M potential damage good in Bayern?)
  6. With the new cooldowns, the only thing that really balances it is the high number of battleships in the games. Without that, well, it's as I've always said. The idea isn't bad, but the implementation is crap.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I had three great games today. Average over 100k damage and a little less than 1.9k base xp. In one of them I managed to be the last surviving ship (winning us the match), after tanking 93700 damage in Bayern (which has 51600 HP). I had 266 health left, and at least two ships were shooting at me.
  8. Met Aerroon in a Trap match, on the same team. He started off by complaining he clicked the wrong button (missed Ranked?), and wanted to win or lose quickly. To be fair, it took about 14 minutes for us to win, so it wasn't that bad. He in a Benson and and Prettyhill in a Bismarck basically camped out in the B cap for most of the match and scared off anyone daring to approach. I joined in (the three of us murderised a Tashkent entering the cap) after capping C (with great support), and spent most of the time zoning off the cap with torpedo soup. Overall the teamwork was great, and likely the determining factor.

Just how ridiculous DD's really are, DD's fans i laugh at you

Kagero is a ship I play for fun with a fun configuration. Well, for me, anyway. Don't think I do too badly either. IJN torps aren't useless, but they're not as good as they should be if you compare all other aspects of the IJN DDs compared to their counterparts from other nations. That certainly doesn't mean it's impossible to use them well, but that takes skill. And if you have that skill, you can do the same with USN torps anyway.

    Matchmaking 5.[edited]

Yes, it's completely crap just because you're the one at bottom tier. Just had a T9 game (well, to be honest, the vast majority were T8), and two of the most important players on our team were a Hatsuharu and a Hiryu (two T7 ships, for clarification). The latter didn't get a whole lot of experience or even plane kills, but did get the planes in the places where they mattered. Those two players didn't whine about it. They went and did the best they could, which earned us the victory.

    Invisible Destroyer

Yeah, that's what I'm guessing as well. It's kind of misleading, considering it's more than I often use guns than that I rarely use torpedoes.

    Invisible Destroyer

I've always wondered about that "rarely uses torpedoes" "stat". Mine says:

Just how ridiculous DD's really are, DD's fans i laugh at you

Of course destroyers are much stronger than they were historically. They cost as much (or almost) as battleships. Wouldn't you expect that extra money to go into stealth technology and infinite torpedo reloads? In reality, how many destroyers could you buy for a single battleship?
  14. AnotherDuck

Do IJN Destroyers really need yet another nerf?

You can win in an IJN DD against a USN DD in a straight one-on-one fight. If you're a better player. If you're equal, the outcome heavily favours USN. IJN guns are more accurate, hit harder, but have much lower DPM, and the slow turret traverse means you're limited in how you can manoeuvre without losing even more DPM. IJN DDs are also slow and have awful manoeuvrability compared to other DDs. A USN DD can turn the other way, and not lose that much. An IJN DD simply can't do that without disengaging. Which is really what you should do, to maximise the benefit of your higher alpha damage. An IJN DD can, however, briefly turn completely away to show the smallest target possible, without losing firepower.
  15. CVs is actually one class I'm considering HE ammo for in a BB, at all tiers. At lower tiers, you can get citadels anyway, and at higher tiers, you're very likely to put the CV out of commission with fires, while still doing a decent amount of damage. It's not as fun as the massive AP citadels, but it's an option. Also depends on your HE shell quality. If you're not alone, you can just stick with AP anyway.

[IJN DDs] Why are higher tier DDs so weak?

It's stupid to just derail a discussion to demand someone's stats. That's arguing the person and not the argument. A competition for best games is a crap way of measuring a ship's overall capacity. It does fine in measuring max capability, but that doesn't say anything about how likely you are to have a crap game. Overall, destroyers have far more varied results than battleships. In a battleship, unless you get focused down by a carrier or two, you're very likely to survive long enough to deal some decent damage if you're not incompetent. You've got the health to deal with most mistakes, and the damage output to do something about your own offensive performance. In a destroyer, any destroyer, your game is far more likely to end prematurely and net you a crap performance. On the flip side, if you do well, you can do very well. Which you can do with any ship, but a ship with a higher risks simply needs to have it more likely to have a great game to be balanced. Or let me put it this way, if you have a die with one six and five ones, versus a die with six fives, a competition for the best result would have more of the first die, since that's a higher potential, even if the average is much worse. Summa summarum, a destroyer has higher risks for higher rewards, while battleships have lower risks for lower rewards. And cruisers have higher risks for lower rewards which is basically what happens to higher tier DDs. The risks are kept the same, but the rewards are lower.

    Anti-American Bias?

Especially if you meet a cruiser who shows you a broadside at ~7 km.

economy change is the best thing WG has done

With this change, I'm getting more consistent money from games, but at least on T9, it's on average lower. I don't camp, and if I die early I almost always take one or two ships with me (I get First Blood about twice as often as random chance). Staying alive is no longer any means of saving a few credits (not that I have a great survival rate). Still, haven't played enough for any reliable numbers, and I also need to get used to how to earn money more reliably with this system.

    IJN DDs in Domination

Hit and run tactics are usually the most effective. IJN DDs have much higher alpha damage than USN DDs, as well as much better aiming at longer ranges. Another time to use your guns is when the enemies are busy with other ships. If they're not going to fire at you anyway, fire away. If they then start to fire at you, stop firing and advance to the rear. That spreads the enemy fire out over more ships, which takes pressure from your allies and makes the enemy fire less effective. I don't find using torpedoes against DDs to be that effective, unless they try to hide in smoke, and even that has a low hit rate if you're meeting anyone remotely competent. Sometimes just keeping the DDs spotted is the best option, and that alone can get them to run away if you've got any support at all. Had a match an hour or two ago where I ran into a Gearing with Kagero. C cap of North, heading towards the C-D channel. I was able to get two salvos off before I could escape behind cover, and since he followed me, he remained within 2 km away from me while on the other side of the island, so he couldn't hide in smoke. Teammates took care of him, I got the cap. Got a few hits on the SN DDs in the D cap shortly after, while they were busy with two BBs there. Got that cap, too.

    epicenter......

Obvious "no" vote there. Even with it, you could just enter the circle and then leave it for the border. And if you want to force a certain time within the circle, you could screw over those who go in but die quickly. Or you force people to head in an suicide to get anything out of the battle at all. This option is needed just as much as it's needed in Domination. Which is not at all. The game mode is still new, so people are still getting used to it. It's very easy to die if you go in and don't time it correctly, and forcing people to go in limits what you can do in the battle. "My way or the highway" is a crap way of balancing.

    Torpedos.... Team killers favourite tool

Didn't vote; poll lacks the option, "Can't vote for what I want because the poll creator doesn't know how to create real polls." I don't find it too common. Had a game where a Kuma almost torped me, and one where another destroyer fired torps very close to me, although I'm not sure if any of those hit or not, since they were within arming distance. But other than those two, it's not happened to me for months.
  22. Yeah, when you get to the highest tiers, you need more piercing power. You still might want to burn the flight deck, though. At lower tiers, you get citadels even with HE.

[IJN DDs] Why are higher tier DDs so weak?

XP you get for capping and stuff. Credits is as far as I'm aware of mainly awarded for damage. But then, it's not like the IJN DDs are performing well in XP either, so you still can't really call it balanced. Hatsuharu and Fubuki are doing fine (which means in the middle, which is also where the fabled Minekaze is), but Kagero and Shimakaze are in the bottom. Spotting may help.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Today I managed to get myself detonated three times. I played seven games. One in a battleship (barely even got shot at, and did poor damage, since the other team fled to the border, and König isn't fast nor have long range guns), and two in a flagged destroyer. So, three times out of four. Can you tell I'm running very low on detonation flags? I also managed to detonate a Bismarck on the first torpedo hit in the match. Overall I got five or six First Blood as well. I think this is about expected for my playstyle.

[IJN DDs] Why are higher tier DDs so weak?

They're also not supposed to be nerfed when they're already behind, and yet... The easy kill/win ships are the BBs, and some other non-IJN DD ships. On higher tiers. Problem is, it's not a balanced trade off if it results in low average damage.
