KILL THE CHAT - WG INCLUDE THIS IN NEXT PATCH

In my experience, most of the chat, especially in Ranked, is about strategy. Coordinating efforts and such, making sure people don't run off alone (unless it's a DD trying to steal a cap), making sure people notice what happens and what the score is in the match. In Randoms, there's also a lot of plain friendly chatting. Yes, there's some toxic stuff, but I don't find it bad enough to just go Madagascar on the chat and close down everything, just because someone, somewhere, once sneezed a bad word in your general direction.

I read OP as, "Give me free stuff, but don't give it to the noobs who don't deserve it." Am I close?

    Tachibana challenge...

Nah, joke's on people who think that puny little ship can't hurt them with those puny peashooters. They can, and in the hands of a competent captain, they will.

Brit CL - failed concept, failed execution

I'm only up to Danae, and she feels about as tanky as Kirov. Only the latter has a little better range (as in, can actually outrange almost any equal-tier ship, rather than be outranged by anything not a destroyer). The AP also do more damage at any range, but on the other hand, Danae reloads a lot faster. They're also both sluggish in turns, although Danae is overall slower but much better acceleration. If there's one thing that needs improving, it's probably reduced citadel damage. One or two salvos, and you're deleted. But unlike Kirov, you can't hang out at long range where you're far less likely to be hit. And you still have the same accuracy at your max range as Kirov has at her max range. The guns work well enough, I find. They're not great against battleships, but they deal consistent damage against everything you meet, assuming you know where to aim. Hitting destroyers isn't that bad, although I have enough experience with the USN moonshooters, so I'm used to that arc. The only problem with getting a decent average damage is surviving long enough to do that, which I mentioned above. By the way, I'm probably only comparing to Kirov because the USN cruiser line is the only cruiser line I've not played (more than high tier on the test server, but that's not relevant for mid tiers).

    Windows 10 ruins his game

I've had more problems with the last few patches than with any operating system issues. A while back, there was a great improvement in loading times, but some time after that, loading got a little worse again, some lag (probably not connection issues, but something else) started appearing, and the game occasionally freezes for a few seconds (like once every few matches).

    Tachibana challenge...

Tachibana's guns aren't that bad. They're small, sure, and she's got a 1 in the artillery stat, but the fire rate is great, and if you meet any cruiser showing a broadside reasonably close, you will outdamage her with many citadel hits if you can aim better than a drunk bot. I find Tachibana to be one of the best low-tier brawlers. Not a lot of health, but a good amount of firepower, good stealth, and she's a very small target.

    Patch 0.5.13 official notes (20/10/2016)

What I liked about the dailies was that you got one new mission per day, but you had three slots for missions, so even if you took a break for one or two days, you'd still be able to complete just as many missions as if you were playing every day. If the crates are only for single-day playing, every day, it adds to needing to play (or at least if you want to get the most out of it) every single day, which is one thing that can easily make the game feel more like work than play.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I hit a Benson (with a Benson) in smoke at close to max range. Of course, I had just hit him with a torpedo, which left him at very low health. Not that I could see that, but it's kind of what you assume when you hit a destroyer with a torpedo. That's the tell, here's the show. Also a very fun battle overall. Several Bensons at max range duking it out, with the occasional interruption of a battleship or overgrown Benson with radar.

Ranked Battles S5 [all rank battle topics merged]

I'm not sure there's a single battle where I don't ask or tell which cap to focus on. And especially in Fubuki, I often offer to go alone to one cap, while the rest of the team takes the other. In a DD with CE, you're not very exposed alone compared to other ships. If there are carriers it's one thing, but otherwise the danger is what you make of it. That's usually what I do. Well, I usually switch ships at that point. I run Ranked with both Benson and Fubuki. I have a better win rate in Benson, but better damage and kills in Fubuki. Still, not that many games (15 resp. 7), so not statistically significant.

    6 Games 3 Detonations

I got three detonations in a row recently. And the match before those I detonated someone else. Does anyone have any info on the actual detonation chance? Just going by total detonations/games doesn't say a whole lot, since some ships (DDs) are more likely to detonate than others, and they're also far more likely to run detonation flags, which skews the numbers.

    Alternative ship unlock mechanic

But of course, teams I'm in can only win because of me, and only lose because of others. Isn't that how teamwork works? I'm also pretty sure the chance of potatoes in the enemy team is a 12:11.15 ratio, so a slightly bigger chance for them to be there. As an alternative idea, I'd really like to see ship-specific missions being introduced that aren't related to your progress.

    Alternative ship unlock mechanic

The idea to complete missions to advance in tiers isn't bad in itself. The actual examples of missions are crap. First of all, the mission shouldn't be after you've done the xp grind. They should be available at any time in the ship. Second, the objectives of the missions shouldn't be a combination of various things that are as chance-based as those are, in particular if it requires you to complete them several times in a row. I mean, Isokaze is my second best ship, after Umikaze, and I still think those requirements are absolute bollocks. 40k damage is about the average damage (total damage, not just torps) for the top 5% of all players. And you expect new players at T4 to complete that while also capping and getting a kill three times in a row? For actual objectives, it would be better to have singular objectives that make sense for the ships and tiers, as well as not forcing them to be in a row. Preferably, team-oriented objectives, like capping, a certain amount of spotting damage, torpedo damage or hits for destroyers, and damage done, deflected, or healed for battleships.

    Ranked Season suggestion

The problem with that is that not everything you do for the team gives you xp, but everything you do for the team increases the win chance. On the other hand, you're probably more likely to get in the top 50% if you work for the team. I'd probably modify the suggestion to gives stars to the top 5 of the winning team, and the top 2 of the losing team. Another option would be to increase the condition for not losing a star to the top 3 of the losing team, and not give a star for the bottom 2 of the winning team.

Biggest tip for sucess in Ranked!

Ranked is plenty fun. It can be frustrating, sure, because potatoes are everywhere, but I see actual teamwork more often than not. But honestly, if you see playing the game as a non-fun grind, why are you even playing at all? If you don't enjoy playing a game, what's the point of playing it?

    Who's fault is it?

I have a habit of telling the rest of the team to go to one cap, while I go to the other, in both Fubuki and Benson. But the thing about doing that, you really need to know when to back down. I recently had a game in Benson on Neighbours, where I went to the A cap and the rest to the B cap. The enemy team split up. I met two Fubukis and two cruisers. It was a no-go to cap that one, but I got a lot of shots in when they occasionally got out of smoke, and while they're generally better at range than a Benson, that's still a better option than going in and dying before accomplishing much. The important part is that because I did that the enemy couldn't just leave me alone, so they had to leave some firepower against me. That left my team able to mop the other cap up, so I could finally cap A with support. That tactic usually works better with a Fubuki than a Benson, as the former as better concealment and better alpha damage, but here it worked out well enough.

Biggest tip for sucess in Ranked!

These are my priorities for target selection. Getting into position to have these ships in your crosshair can sometimes be more dangerous than it's worth, but if you don't try at all, you're going to be useless. First priority: Is there a ship that poses immediate and lethal danger to you or a team mate, and you can deal with that ship before you/other ship sink? Do so. If you can save someone from dying by sinking an enemy ship, you've accomplished something great. Two for one. Second priority: Which ship can you kill the fastest? If you kill one ship, you have a one ship advantage, and with as few ships as there are in Ranked, that's a big deal. This depends on the situation, and you must also take what your team mates are firing on in consideration. If there's a very low health cruiser your team is shooting on, maybe you don't have to use a full battleship salvo on that ship. There's also no point in torping ships that will die before your torps get to them. Third priority: Which ships are strategically most beneficial for the enemy? This is usually destroyers, but radar cruisers come in close second, especially if they're competent. This also depends on the second priority, since a battleship won't kill a destroyer faster than a cruiser. Fourth priority: Are your guns loaded, you have anything at all in range, you're not sneaking around, and you're not holding your fire for a few seconds to get a much better shot? Shoot. Fifth priority: Have fun.
  21. I don't see anything wrong with that.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Yesterday I only played three games, but won all. Today's achievement was repeating that with twice the number of battles. And three of them in Ranked. I didn't have to carry hard in any of them, but I did more than my part in all of them. Except maybe the Bayern match, where I died early while helping the team to push.

    Who's fault is it?

The problem with stats is context. If you're driving an IJN DD you're probably going to have a higher hit ratio than if you're driving a USN one. Survival rating depends on what ship you drive. A carrier is more likely to survive than any other ship. Any kind of camper is more likely to survive. If you apply the stats to specific ships, you get a much better picture, since then they're actually reasonably representative for similar context. There are still different play styles, like if a Fletcher goes more for torps or guns, and whether you invisifire a lot. Personally I have a rather low survival rate, usually at around 33%, but I think I tend to know how to die well. I rarely die without taking one or two ships with me, or taking most of the fire while the team pushes.
