    Bye DDs (for now)

I've never really understood the argument that RL is a skill for newbies and it's useless for experienced players. It's really the reverse. You need to know how to use it for it to be worth those four skill points. It gives you more information, but you need to know what to do with that information for it to be useful at all. I've used to to determine there were no DDs nearby, so I could safely go and torp BBs and CAs from 6 km range, and that's with Shiratsuyu's wall of skill. I've used it to hunt down other DDs who tried to run away, even in that slow ship. I've often use it to turn my guns the right direction long before (important with IJN DDs), and to play more aggressively without risking as much. I've actually had more use for the skill with Shiratsuyu than with Fletcher. The skill makes the gameplay less interesting. It makes it predictable as you don't have to come up with your own estimates of where the hidden enemy ships are. It displays it right there for you, automatically. Why bother learning how to read the game, when you can have the game just tell you the most important part?

    Kirov, the tinfoil ship

Buddy can also actually take more than two shots without sinking. It's a ship where it's actually possible to get closer than max range without such a high risk of being deleted. Kirov, on the other hand, has awesome guns. The ship is all about those guns (speed is good, too). Dead accurate and capable of citadelling cruisers at max range, which is also a great range for her tier. RN aside, I'm not sure I've played any cruiser where I used AP more. I once had the luck of getting into a T6 battle on Ocean where no one had longer range than I did. It was just a shooting gallery. Nothing could touch me unless I allowed it. If there's one ship where I'd actually advice sniping at max range, it would be Kirov.
  3. This is just misunderstanding how spotting works. Firing from smoke is exactly the same way as a cruiser firing on a destroyer who's spotted by an allied destroyer, but cruiser doesn't actually see the destroyer by herself. It's exactly the same mechanic. So if we remove firing from smoke, you should only ever be able to see ships you spot yourself.

So, what are you bringing to ranked?

Imagine that. I gave her the same skills, for the same reason. Can't imagine her without at least Adrenaline Rush. Too bad there's no Crash Dive skill. The ARP Myokou-class ships are actually worse than the standard Myoko. They can't use camo.

What is the best cruiser line for hunting DDs?

I agree with Syrchalis. If you can get someone else to spot them for you, the IJN cruisers can more or less delete destroyers in two salvos. They also have decent stealth and manoeuvrability, so they can get a little closer than many other ships, or even chase them down in smoke with sonar. The SN ships have better range, better shell arcs, but not the same damage, and high tier ones have radar. USN ones have their radar at higher tiers, and the KM ones have their good sonar, but both are overall worse at it, I find. The RN cruisers are a little special, since they have the best stealth and manoeuvrability out of all cruisers (I think), as well as radar on higher tiers, and while they only fire AP, that AP will still do good damage on destroyers. They are overall the most fragile, though, so if the destroyers have support, it will get dangerous.

    Lack of realism...

If I (ship A) shoot at an enemy (ship B), and my probability of hitting at max range is pA (assuming my aim is right on B without B turning, taking movement into account), then pA should be as close to 1 as possible, because 1 means it's perfectly balanced. Now, if B shoots at A, it's an inverse situation, so naturally we should calculate the probability of B missing at max range, pB, which should be as close to 1 as possible for previously proven reasons. Since this clearly isn't the case (pA is closer to 0.4-0.7 depending on ship, and pB is way too low, considering my paint gets scratched, like, every game I take my BB out), the game is unbalanced, and should be fixed pronto.

    Ranked tier 7 dds skills

For Shiratsuyu, I don't have a full 19-point captain yet, but I wonder if I should pick AFT + some T1 skill (which probably would be PT, although none of them are all that good), or EM + SE. I used to have AFT before the skill change, which was really nice as she's got good shell arcs and decent range to begin with. The other option makes for a better brawler.

Caledon, Danae and Emerald: What do you think about?

Nah, Leander is good. Not great, but you can certainly do well with her.

    Strange and peaceful torps

Aww, and here I was expecting the X-Files theme in the video... Same thing happened to me recently. Torpedo went straight through. But that's what's happens with online games on occasion. Previously, I had more of a problem with torpedoes aimed at me just not appearing (while well within spotting range).

    To much fire`?

We're really getting a lot of these threads. So why do we read them?

So, what are you bringing to ranked?

I only really have two T7 ships I like. Shiratsuyu, and Ashigara. I have Shchors, Yorck, Nagato, Gneisenau, and Akatsuki, but I don't have captains for them, or I don't like them. Can maybe fix something up.

    Excellent start to the weekend

No, you need to be a good player. Being top tier certainly helps, but it's not the main requirement. WoT is far more tier dependent.

Benson/Fletcher captain skills - what to pick?

Yeah, I hate that RL is in the game too. Doesn't make it less useful, though. Regarding TAE, it's an optional in my mind, but especially with Fletcher, I find that early in the matches it's better to act more like a torpedo boat / scout than a gunboat. That's mainly to avoid losing HP, which is very valuable to have as a destroyer later in the game when there are fewer cruisers aiming your direction the moment you get spotted. As with other skills, it depends a lot more on your personal playstyle than anything else whether you take it or not. It's not a bad pick.

    Autobounce angle

Not that eight votes (which is the total at the moment) is in any way a significant number, but all of those votes are on "No". I think there's something to that...

Benson/Fletcher captain skills - what to pick?

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend AFT. You have a decent buffer zone for invisifiring anyway, and even at that range it's hard to hit any ships that touches WASD at all. I also would recommend removing Expert Marksman. It's just not necessary. BFT and DE are both solid choices, and depend on your playstyle. Are you more of a DD hunter, or more of a BB harasser? 10% extra DPS is good against DDs, but the extra fire chance is better if you're shooting at larger targets. Vigilance isn't bad, but I think the above ones are better. It's an idea if you frequently have problems with torpedoes. I find it's usually enough to stock premium consumables rather than having Superintendent. Personally I use Radio Location, though. However, that's a skill that you need to know how to use to get anything out of. I'm more of a sneaky capper and DD hunter, and it helps me out a great deal with picking my battles. It does mean the raw stats of your ship will be worse, so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. As a final recommendation, I'd say it's a good idea to keep Benson, and get a new captain for Fletcher and/or Gearing. Benson is a great ship, especially for her tier, and Ranked is often at that tier, where it's one of the better ships.

    Preventive Maintenance

Basically, it's a good skill for destroyers, but I think there are better skills for other ships. Priority Target is good for cruisers, especially fragile ones, and the one that gives an extra plane is useful for all ships with catapult fighters.

    Best ships per tier

Personally, of the ships I've played, and how I feel they play: Tier 1: lol Tier 2: Umikaze. Tier 3: Umikaze. Tier 4: Isokaze. Tier 5: Kamikaze R. Tier 6: Fuso. Tier 7: Shiratsuyu. Tier 8: Bismarck or Benson. Tier 9: Fletcher. Tier 10: No ships bought yet.

Turn off the chat for players who are dead

97.53% of all statistics are made up on the spot. If you say "ever actually worked" as well as "99%", then you either mean actually 100%, or you mean it actually does work on rare occasions. Now, I still disagree. Sure, it's likely they won't listen, but if you say something that's actually sensible, they for some reason listen to it sometimes. Even if you say it's rare, it's still often enough to matter.

Caledon, Danae and Emerald: What do you think about?

You know, for the number of games I've played in the ship, Leander has one of the highest number of CQC medals. A light cruiser getting lots of kills with secondaries is kinda funny. Dreadnoughts aren't too rare either.
  22. AnotherDuck

Question to DD players: Are you "good little soldiers"?

The thing about lone wolves is that they have no one to rely on but themselves. That means the skill floor is a lot higher than if you follow with the main fleet and remain with their support. You need to know what you're doing, what to watch out for, and when to pull back, because otherwise you are going to die. If there are carriers you probably shouldn't do it at all (possible exception if you're in a USN DD with AA consumable).
  23. AnotherDuck

Caledon, Danae and Emerald: What do you think about?

They're the ships that teach you how to play Leander and later ships. While Leander has a lot better survivability due to citadel size, if you don't know how to survive with the previous ships, you're not going to do great with Leander either. And higher up in tiers you get back to worse citadel sizes.
  24. AnotherDuck

Expert Marksman still an automatic pick?

Well, I don't usually just keep my guns on one target (unless she keeps showing broadside, which admittedly isn't that rare), I just find it useful to be able to aim at all while turning. It's really more that that's the turret traverse I'm comfortable working with, whether I keep aiming at the same target or switch targets.
