This is the main reason I like Bismarck. Just a fun ship to play. Playing a secondary build just for that reason, min-maxing effectiveness be damned. Also, if you enjoy the ship, you naturally play better, as you won't do as many of those stupd mistakes you do so easily while frustrated or not liking the ship you're playing. Step one to becoming a good player is learning to have fun.

I usually take it easy for a few days, unless the first map doesn't have shiplocking. After that I usually go for Hard if it's reasonably accomplishable, but if it gets frustrating I have no problems lowering it. Only have so much time to play, and I'd rather finish an event than bang my head against a wall until the right RNG falls through. I still have three levels left for Poi to achieve. To max. Your opinion is immediately and irrevocably void. Lily White is awesome. Also, can't believe I missed the VN discussions. I've just not been on these forums for a long while. Well, to add to that, my first VN was Clannad. Great music. Best one is probably Umineko. At least it's easy to understand. Did like Katawa Shoujo. Hanako best girl (I did actually write a fanfic way back then), but I like Misha, Emi, and Lilly as well. Rin's route is the best Hisao route, though, even if Rin herself is a mess. -
On the whole, I think Gearing and Fletcher are about as dissimilar as Shimakze and Yuugumo. And just to get that out, I have the least experience in Gearing, as that's only on test servers. The others I've played more than enough to understand them. Gearing is a knife-fight gunboat with long range torpedoes. Fletcher is a hybrid gunboat / torpedo boat. That means Fletcher is overall better to adapt to the situation, while Gearing is a better cap contester. The extra gun range Fletcher has means it's better at smoke firing harassment and picking on large ships, while Gearing has it easier to shoot in stealth outside smoke. Against destroyers you're probably not going to hit a whole lot at max range, so that's where having longer range is only a minor advantage. The torpedoes Fletcher has are more suited for stealth strikes and clearing enemy smoke clouds, while Gearing's torpedoes are better at area denial and catching back-line battleships off guard. Shimakaze is a fast flanker, while Yuugumo is a stealthy spotter. The speed advantage Shimakaze has over almost all ships with the relatively good destroyer stealth means it's one of the best ships at doing well on its own. Yuugumo, on the other hand, can sail right into caps unspotted and sit there. The high stealth means you don't need smoke nearly as much as other destroyers, but if there's a carrier in the game, it can be a game changer. Which torpedo setup you like is largely a matter of taste (which also includes torpedo choice), and that's assuming you're going Torpedo Reload Booster, since otherwise Shimakaze's flat out better. However, I'd still say Shimakaze is better, since you're more consistently able to fire torpedoes, while Yuugumo has a greater single-strike potential. That's not just because of having one more torpedo in the whole salvo, but also because you've got four spreads to aim with. However, the 3x5 setup means you can more easily get away with firing only one or two launchers, rather than all of them. That increases the chance of permanent flooding, which means you don't need to hit more than a few torpedoes total to get the same damage as a full strike. Naturally, you can go for that with the boosted 4x4 launch Yuugumo is capable of, but you've got a limited amount of chances for that. Lastly, Yuugumo can, thanks to the stealth, use the F3 torpedoes a little more easily. The guns on both ships are good for Japanese destroyers, but they still don't hold out in a knife fight against other destroyers. Shimakaze has more old-school Japanese destroyer traits with high alpha and slow reload, while Yuugumo has the newer setup with faster but weaker guns. In theory, that gives Yuugumo better DPM, but in my experience you're often using the guns while kiting, and in that situation you're better off with higher alpha, since you need to turn less often to get all guns firing. However, Yuugumo has better range, and the shell arcs are good enough to make use of it. At max range you can outshoot destroyers that aren't Russian.

She looks rather Poi to me, especially with that dark navy skirt with red line. Lacks the badass pink tips on her hair, though. -
How do you celebrate halloween in your country
AnotherDuck replied to Did_Eye_Hurt_You's topic in Off-Topic
In Sweden we basically don't. There are some who's gotten into the American tradition of running around in costumes and collecting candy, but they're not particularly many. And there are always people looking for an excuse to party. Now, All Saints' Day, on the other hand, we do celebrate by visiting graves and lighting candles. -

Well, the radar basically ensures you're rarely going to get an outright bad game for yourself, but I just seem to end up with those teams you can't carry even with a backpack of carrying +4. Anyway, that's not a T5 BB. -

Been a while since I read these forums. Should maybe get to it. Or you know, actually play the game. I have two of those as desktop backgrounds. Specifically, the one with the four first, and the snowman/snowfight one (although I have that one flipped, so the icons don't cover them). She's a very classy one, able to pull off memes with dignity. -

No, I played through Fuso. Emphasis on "play". It was not a grind. One of the best ships to play, IMO. Isn't hurt much when uptiered, thanks to great firepower and great range. Nagato, on the other hand, I never really liked. I have crap winrate in her (although decent to good performance otherwise). It was my most cursed ship until I got Chappy. Which are the two real outliers in my entire collection. -

I was prepared to give you the benefit of a doubt, but there you're just plain and factually wrong. However, I always wonder about "comparisons" when one side is always excused and the other isn't. -
IF WG really is concerned about BB overpopulution why dont they just........

It would help, just not as much. And also nerf cruisers slightly. -

They were rare because they were massively more expensive than cruisers and destroyers. If I'm paying as much for those ships as I do for battleships, I want them to be as strong. -

Battleships are effectively blinking in and out as it is, since they have a slower reload than the gun bloom. Just like gun bloom is as least as long as gun range, it should also be at least as long as the reload. Tears of the Cruisers is at least playable in battleships and destroyers. Mountain Range is a pain in the arse to play regardless of ship. You mean high tier battleships struggle with torpedoes if they don't play with the team? I'm completely fine with that. -

You're literally asking for a twin-tail pic dump. Kumarinko will demonstrate. Houshou is a bit reluctant, but she can do it as well. (Also, that artist is great.) Give Pola something to drink, and she'll do anything. And maybe it'll give Fuso a bit more luck. -

I'd rather that they remove the concealment upgrade. Captain skills should be effective regardless of ship, but ship upgrades can be limited, IMO. Unnerfing all torpedoes they've nerfed over time might help. DW torps and AP bombs are just gimmicks that I really doubt will help at all. -

I think it was two years ago, when she initially got that awesome seasonal CG you're using as your avatar. It kind of went like this: -

I got Teruteru the first time she appeared. Was maybe the highest priority ship that event. Isokaze I got during that saury season she was a drop on 1-5. That saury season went about like this: Isokaze's awesome, though. -

A-poi-calypse Now II: the death of torpedo boats
AnotherDuck replied to dasCKD's topic in Destroyers
Get closer. Kagero has the best concealment in the game (well, I think T2 Tachibana is technically better), so as long as you don't hit radar or German sonar, you can get very close before you torp. Always torp ships heading your direction, not away from you. If you can, try to aim to where there are multiple ships. Prioritise ships after size. Battleships are easier to hit than destroyers.- 107 replies

I've not given her a spin since the nerf, but I've always had the torpedo reload booster for all other DDs carrying it. This is including before the IJN DD split, when it was a 30 second reload, only available on T7 Hatsuharu and T9 Kagero. You do have to be more careful, especially in Shiratsuyu, since she's rather slow. Personally I've never used smoke a lot in the IJN DDs, since I prefer stealth scouting over smoke camping, so for me it's not a huge drawback to not use smoke, despite how useful it is.

I think Bismarck (secondary specced, naturally) is one of the most fun, if not the most fun battleship to play. I'm not sure if it's the best one (depends on personal playstyle), but it's the most fun one.

Well, I own the Kamikaze R but not the "new" Minekaze. The old Minekaze was slightly faster, and had a slightly different gun/torpedo layout, but other than that I think it was exactly the same. The new Minekaze got a bunch of nerfs, so they're not as equal anymore. For instance, the new guns on the IJN DDs were overall less powerful, but with higher reload and turret traverse speeds. This essentially moved them from the high alpha advantage towards gunboat shell spam to get damage without actually being able to compete with the gunboats. The old ones could hit and run far better, and the turret traverse didn't matter, since you don't want to engage at close distances where you have to turn the guns a lot more. So while in theory, the guns have higher DPS, they're less effective for the ships using them. Short disclaimer that this isn't what I've looked up recently, but things I think I've looked up when the updates were new, along with my own impressions.

I think this thread hasn't had enough poi. Have a glass. -
"Enough games" is quite a large number, which is far more than what it takes to advance to the next ship. I mean, if you normally average 50% wins, and you play 100 matches in one ship, you're going to end up with 50 wins if everything goes statistically. But if you get a streak, win or loss, of 10 matches (which we've seen many times mentioned on these forums), then your winrate is going to change significantly from your normal average (in this case to 45% or 55%). And in my experience, a streak like that isn't all too rare. You can then add all cases of almost-streaks and all sorts of statistical problems. All in all, it's not that unlikely that one or two ships will end up with a WR that doesn't reflect performance. Play enough ships, and the probability to hit those outliers increase. One thing you can do is to watch your own replays, and see if you can spot what you could've done better. You know what they say about hindsight, so use that to your advantage. Use it to learn.

WR is one of those stats you have little impact on, so it takes a lot to sway it. I have a few ships with overall good stats but atrocious WR, and I don't play those significantly different than other comparable ships where my WR doesn't suffer. Sometimes it really is just the luck of the draw on teams. Try to figure out what impact your position has on the game. Is your position driving enemies away from the caps? Does it encourage your teammates to cap? And since it's a battleship, are you drawing enough attention away from your allied cruisers (without getting focus-fired down to the bottom)?

As far as I know, both terms are used. There might be a formal term, but either is accepted as correct.
