    the "carry harder!" thread

This was the first half of the day. Then I played solo for a while, which went slightly better, and then back in a division, which continued to suck exactly like this (WoWs threw me out of the game, so no screencaps of that). Note that out of all games, my worst game was the one in the Shinonome. Which we won. Always ended up in the fun teams that went A on Okinawa, D on North, C on Warriors Path, and pushed on Mountain Range when we had map control of the entire eastern side (caps included) and ship advantage. And those two battleships on Fault Line that spawned on the western side, but still went C. It's not even weekend, and I always end up on the weekendest teams of them all...

    Strange torpedo damage

Yeah, I'd bet on saturation as well.

Holiday Lottery - Try your luck!

I'd like to enter. I'm happy if I win anything. I prefer ships over doubloons, and doubloons over premium. As long as it's not a CV. Or Tirpitz.

    invisible torps

I have had that happen in open sea multiple times. With or without mods. Considering the problem WG has designing a working interface, I sure wouldn't rule out shoddy programming. I don't think that's something most mods interfere with.
  6. Probably not the program itself, but the region. Game was only available in Japan, at least before the mobile version, which isn't restricted. That meant if they caught people from outside Japan, they would ban them. Not that it happened a lot, but it did.

    Your favorite T7 ship?

Shiratsuyu is very fun to play, despite the nerf. While slow to a fault, she's very agile, and the guns work well enough. Myoko works well with my relatively aggressive playstyle. Good tankiness that can angle a surprising amount of shells, and a very respectable broadside. Fiji also works well with an aggressive playstyle, since that's what you benefit the most from. You either take the role of a cruiser and rain shells, or as an overgrown destroyer contesting caps.

    Concealment Expert overrated?

But Leander benefits greatly from Concealment Expert.

    Garbage. Leander has awesome secondaries.

    tears of desert

Don't like the straight yes/no questions on things like this, since I'm voting yes if I'm doubting. Which means fewer of those "no" answers obviously wanted. Tears of the Cruisers works in Domination and Standard. It's not bad in DDs either in Epicentre, but kind of sucks for BBs and in cruisers it's usually more fun to yolo so you can die and get into a new game instead. There are at least two worse maps in the game, maybe three. North is worse, since that's even campier and awkwardly separated. The only reason I've had fun games on it is that by the law of averages and by how bloody often the map appears at least a few has to turn out interesting despite the map. In a way, it's sort of like TotD, but instead of the large killbox in the middle (a.k.a. Epicentre circle), there are three small ones you can't navigate properly in even in a destroyer. And also a noob trap to the east. Mountain Range is plain bad. It's a pretty much a corridor shooter. I'm not sure I've ever had a fun game on it. It doesn't help that the spawns are frequently awful. Okinawa takes the bad part about Ocean and adds a noob trap to the northwest and a tiny island in the middle. So, it's more restricted than Ocean, which kind of removes the whole point about open waters and what makes Ocean fun in the first place.

    Concealment Expert overrated?

Well, as I said, it's not the most efficient, but it's for a full secondary build, which isn't the most efficient build. BFT does help a lot with AA, though, which does come up to a reasonable level. It's not US levels of plane shredding, but it does reduce risk of getting nuked by AP bombs and make it easier to torpedobeat. If you wanted you could swap Manual Secondaries for Manual AA and pick the AA upgrade instead of the secondary to go full AA and still have decent secondaries. Or go halfsies, I suppose. Honestly, Bismarck is one of the few ships where there are actually several viable builds.
  12. I've always run it in vanilla browser. Probably would've been easier with KC3 and stuff, but I also heard a few people getting banned running that, so I didn't want to take the risk. That was a long time ago, though. Damage is reversed after PvP. You still need to resupply, though. The XP is generally very high.

What I consider part of the build, while still leaving room for extra skills: Skill of choice. PT is good, PM could help you once in a while, and DCfCA is useful if PT isn't more than an ever-changing number in your playstyle. AR. EM for extra brawling skills. BFT. AFT, MFCfSA. I would probably perform better with a slightly different build, since secondaries aren't actually that good, but this also helps getting AA up to a decent level. What I'd actually recommend would depend a lot more on the player than on the ship.

Vampire - Bat out of Hell?

First game, I detonated a Phoenix with HE. Was pretty fun. Overall a 70k damage game, with four kills. I was laughing the whole way. A very narrow ship with three almost-forward facing guns means you can weave both direction while advancing (which is the only direction you should sail in this ship) without losing firepower due to backwards rotation. I don't think the exact skill picks matters all that much in these tiers (if anything we should get penalties on our skills, us filthy sealclubbers), so I just went with whatever. Don't even remember. I do prioritise SE lower on this low end of the tier list, though, so I'm not picking that until I have other skills. If I pick it at all.

    Ships & Shapes..it realy counts

Most important aspect: Is the ship fun to play? I like almost all IJN DDs. They might not be the best ships in the game, but they're still fun to play. I also like Bismarck, thanks to the secondaries, and a few of the RN cruisers. IJN cruisers aren't bad either, especially Myoko, since she's so tanky for a cruiser. Agile battleships are overall fun to play, like Amagi and Kongo. Distant second: Does it look good? This category, for some reason, is very similar to the first list. I find ARP Kongou to be the best looking ship in the game. Sleek curves and sharp paint. Bismarck, especially with the real camo, is a great looking ship. ARP Ashigara is pink. Do I need to say more? Myoko does have a great design, though. Distant third: Does the ship perform well? This adds to the first point, since doing well usually means it's more fun, but it's still not the point of it.

    Concealment Expert overrated?

I'm in the no-CE camp for Bismarck, mostly because full secondary is just so fun, and because it wouldn't benefit my playstyle as other skills. If I need to disengage, I can usually find an bush to kemp. Sailing out of spotting range from the ranges I play at (within secondary range) takes so long that it doesn't make much of a difference to run CE. For all other ships I run CE. The only other ship I wouldn't run CE in is Khaba. People try to use stats to justify everything. Stats has more to do with personal skill and approach to the game than captain skills and ship builds. They very rarely have any point other than e-peen competitions.

Can making the Hipper guns available on Yorck fix it?

I don't usually try much for the long-range HE spam, but it's acceptable while relocating, or in the beginning of the match for less risk. Or if you end up with very little HP left. And as I've found out, very powerful in cyclones, and can stand up surprisingly well against battleships with smaller guns. I actually find Myoko a decent brawler. Sure, the torps don't go forward, but she's tanky and relatively agile. The guns aren't, but they hurt a lot. Fiji you need to be sneaky in, but you're rewarded for aggressive gameplay.
  18. For expeditions you really don't need more than a window that's usually minimised. Just check in whenever they come back. For actual gameplay, I either just focus on it, or do something else on the side if I'm grinding. Usually reading or listening to some YouTube videos.

    Moskva cruicer

Concealment isn't that much of an issue, especially compared to other cruisers. It's the most tanky cruiser, so you can survive open waters relatively well if you know how to angle properly.
  20. Honestly, I mostly treat it as an idle game with expeditions. Might answer why I've got so much resources.

    Kagero - any advice?

Area denial is the one thing those awful 20 km IJN torps are good for. They stay in the water forever. Only thing you need to watch for is to not flank too hard. Your team will be on the other side of the enemies. And they're not quite as terrible with the torpedo speed skill, since losing 4 km isn't noticeable, but the speed increase is. Still, the 12 km torps are much better anyway.

    Kamikaze R i love it

Umikaze is awesome in higher tiers than intended. Personally I prefer playing T4-T5 rather than the intended, and now I can at most reach T4 games in a division. It's my preferred T3 division ship for those low-tier sealclubbing and/or new shipline divisions. Totally not the reason why the stats on my Umikaze are so padded...
  23. Damage I don't have much of a problem with. I can usually exchange ships, and if I really want to, I've got 2200 buckets. But yeah, if you find it frustrating, it's not a game you should play. That's why I tend to do lower difficulties on events than I can accomplish if I try. 1-5 is really one of the more pleasant places to level. That's where my Poi reached level 55 in the first place, and if you don't care about the extra HQ XP from the boss, you'll run a net positive in morale if you switch the ships around. As such, it's good for levelling a few ships rather than one specifically, since you'll never really run out of morale. And if you have OASW, you're unlikely to take any damage at all. I used it for high-level levelling for my ASW ships, so they could use slightly lower grade equipment (Type 3 Sonars rather than Type 4, which I've only got a couple of), which I could do forever while only using a bucket once every ten or so runs.
  24. The real pain is the morale mechanic. In particular during events where you play a lot more it's just plain stupid. In essence, it means you have to either spend most of your time running map 1-1 or use suboptimal ships. That's like having to play T1 games six times to play a single T10 game. And that's not counting the support fleets, if you use them. Or you could, you know, buy stuff from the shop, which will quickly be used up and you have to buy more. You can get those in game, but they're not really farmable like buckets.

    Question about dd dps

I usually find actually hitting the target to be the most significant factor in gun fights, rather than raw DPM or HP. I mean, last I was in a straight gun duel was with Shiratsuyu against an Akatsuki. Same tier, reasonably similar guns. Akatsuki has slightly higher DPM and HP (although I'm not sure that one runs SE or not; I do). I lost maybe a sixth of my health, sank my target. I was also under fire from one or two cruisers. Thing is, I was kiting and actively dodging shells, so I rarely got hit at all. DPM and HP means nothing if you can't land your shells.
