Favorite shipgirl (Kancolle,Azur lane, Arpeggio of blue steel,Haifuri)

Did you miss the part where I said replacing some of those CAs with smaller ships works decently? Well, not exactly. Effective ASW damage is mostly determined by equipment, so raw stats make very little difference. The best ASW DD is Tashkent by far. The four-slot cruisers are better than Isuzu (well, except maybe Yodo, who needs to be something like level 130 to get the OASW attack). Sammy benefits a lot from a Reinforcement Expansion, since you can place the turbine there. That's normally one of my two primary uses of the RE slot; the other being an AA machine gun for special AACI attacks. -
Is it necessary to call others [edited] just so you can validate your own argument? The only thing it does is highlighting your lack of belief in your own argument. Leaving a box ticked in or an option at default is not a conscious decision. Default options are bait for people who might miss it. Just look at all those "free offers" you get while signing up, downloading or installing stuff. They're there just as traps for people who might not pay enough attention, or who're impatient, or any other legitimate reason to miss something. It's morally disgusting.

This is one reason I'm extremely reluctant to spend any real money on this game. I just don't trust WG enough for that. Another is that the one thing I did buy (or more exactly, some change on the few extra doubloons I didn't already have) was the premium camo for Bismarck. And then just after they gave away Bismarcks with premium camos for free, which also flooded the game with them and made the ship (and the game as a whole) a lot less fun to play, for various reasons. So by my calculations, I stand a better chance of having fun with the game if I don't spend anything. At least I won't risk throwing money into the sea.

My standard lineup for 2-5 is six cruisers. Two CAVs with a drum each for secure north routing. LoS isn't a problem with that fleet. It's a very reliable fleet that wins most of the time. The night battle is the only touchy spot, but they tend to get through that at least four out of five attempts. Replacing some of those cruisers with smaller ships isn't that much of a problem. It makes it harder, but you've still got a decent chance. Smaller ships have a better chance to dodge the night attacks, but they're more likely to go down if they're hit. LoS isn't usually a problem, but worst case, stack a few floatplanes. Yodo is great for that if you have her (although that might mean giving up on a CLT). -
Which Tier 10 nation ship classes are YOUR picks?
AnotherDuck replied to Appadang's topic in General Discussion
I'd go Yamato for BB. Conq and Monty aren't bad, though. Cruisers are tricky, since all of them are good, but at different aspects. For my personal style, either Zao or Mino fits best. If you kemp island, DM is good. Moskva has awesome guns and good armour, while Hinden is an all around good ship. DDs I have to go with Gearing. It's an overall solid ship that doesn't rely on gimmicks. That means it works in pretty much all circumstances, rather than just where the gimmick comes into play. Buffed Shima might make for a surprisingly strong ship as well, and the new IJN DDs coming "soon" are wildcards, since Akiduki is a very strong ship with a DPM comparable to T10 DDs. I don't play CVs, but going with Haku. -

What were the scores after the carnage? I mean, your map shows a whole lot more green ships than red ships, but it's hard to tell if there are more or not. If they killed more ships than they lost, then they were effective. -
A torpedo warning button should definitely be generic and not just about your own torps. As I often play a scouting role, I often see torpedoes heading for allies, or what I deem as, "I would be surprised if there aren't torps coming that way," where a warning button would be nice. Sometimes I'd also like to draw lines on the minimap for extra clarity, which would be another good feature to have, since it would work to give others direction. As a side note, ignoring a player's chat messages should include all chat commands.

Best premium dd gunboat, and best dd gunboat line?
AnotherDuck replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
Tachibana. If you want speed and gunpower, you want the Russian line, and their premiums. If you also want some stealth, the US DD line has okay stealth and good gunpower, but they're not good at long range. After those you have the Pan Asians, I believe. -
Definitely true. However, I wasn't talking about what's effective for winning the game, just about the raw stats, since it was about statistics, not what constitutes winning gameplay. All stats other than WR are highly dependent on context. Survival rate is probably the easiest to explain. You can have a high survival rate if you border surf all matches, or a low if you yolo all the time. Yet neither is good gameplay. For a balanced gameplay, which is better than either, you have a survival rate in between. Within that playstyle, however, survial rate is a little more telling, since assuming you accomplish the same thing then a higher survival rate is better. You can say the same with damage. For a high number, you can farm high-health targets. For more effective gameplay, as you say, it's often better to focus on targets you can kill quickly. But again, assuming you focus on those priority targets just as much, a higher average damage is better.

WR is a lot about luck, but for large numbers, it's not. If you're only counting a hundred games or so, then it's mostly luck. If you're counting a thousand games, then you've got some statistics to back up that it's not just about luck. Most of the times players talk about WR it's about smaller numbers (which often is about individual ships), but you need a lot of games for your skill to go through the noise to get a clear signal. It's usually quite easy to check, since most players have a wide range of WR for their individual ships, which is only partially because of personal preference and compatibility with the ships. On the other hand, from what I've checked (which admittedly isn't that much), comparing things like damage, hit rate, and other stats to the server average shows a much more narrow distribution.

What T10 Destroyer would you guys most recommend for ranked play?
AnotherDuck replied to Reckless_Banana's topic in General Discussion
I'd say Gearing, and Z-52 are the strongest ships. Yueyang isn't bad either. If there are many DDs, Khabarovsk can do well. So naturally I'm picking Shimakaze if I'm playing. -
Divs should only allow same-tier ships
AnotherDuck replied to FishDogFoodShack's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, I've never seen faildivisions in any significant numbers. Fail teams are far, far, far more common, to the point where faildivisions are barely even a blip on the radar. I see detonations much more frequently, to pick one other thing. -

I'm not sure about WoWP, but tiers in WoT aren't even close to comparable to tiers in WoWs. If you're facing a +2T tank, you're going to struggle a lot to do any damage at all. In WoWs, a 2T difference means an advantage or disadvantage, but one that's less than what a little bit of skill can make up for. Personally, I miss the T5 matches in Umikaze. I think T4-T5 is about the sweet-spot for that ship, since with the larger maps you get in the low-mid tiers you can use your awesome stealth to a far better degree than on the smaller T2 maps. It's also got a good amount of health and armour that can bounce BB shells (which is always hilarious). Speaking of bouncing shells, I recently managed to rush a Minotaur in Yuugumo without taking any real amount of damage. Took a torp and still survived. That was funny. IJN DDs don't care much about tiers. They do their job regardless. Some do it better than others, but there's no other line that's even close to tier-independent as the IJN DDs. -

I've learned to read some parts of names, in particular 雨, 月, and 風, and of course 夕立. Most of the classes I can interpret as well. But yeah, otherwise level is a good indicator, since I know the rough level of just about all ships (then again, the majority of them are level 80-90). -
That bad thing about giving cruisers a heal is that it would nerf cruisers more than battleships when fighting against them. The damage cruisers deal is far easier to mitigate with heals than what battleships do.
-
That's usually a good measurement of how sensible the OP is.

While I don't think it's much of an issue, if an issue at all, it is a little silly as it works now. Even if you don't explode at the lightest touch between ships (see the film Top Secret for an example), it's still a rather low speed for instant kill. I think a good adjustment would be to raise the instant kill relative speed limit by maybe 4-5 kn. Impact from the limit down to equal speed could be a flat percentage of max ram damage. While touching it could be like it is now, continuous damage, which could still stand to be a little less severe. If you want to get "realistic", you could base that on max HP and the acceleration the ships would have relative to each other if they didn't touch (which essentially serves as the combined engine power directed into the ram).

I can. And it's usually very hard to chase a CV around, and as such a bad idea in almost all cases. And without that BB, the CV would likely still be hiding behind the island so you wouldn't be able to shoot it. But at the end of it, that BB is still just one ship. It isn't a huge problem if one ship goes around the flank. Should probably be a lot more aggressive at it, depending on how much damage that BB did in total. In the particular situation, getting rid of the CV is one of the best plays you can do, since the remaining ships are BBs. There's nothing they can do to your team that you don't allow. -

Is that the enemy spawn she's in? Because that's at least some round trip, probably chasing the CV. -
3rd row captain skills useless for mid-tier cruisers?
AnotherDuck replied to VC381's topic in Cruisers
That's the biggest "almost" point, yes. -
I've found that speed differences are mostly only noticeable if you're trying to run away from a ship. The higher your speed is compared to theirs, the more you can bob and weave. If you're slower, you can't run away unless they turn to fire more guns. For plain travel time, the difference is marginal, and depends far more on starting speed and if you make any turns.
-
That's the main problem I've had with the British BBs. You can't really use AP on cruisers, since you'll just overpen everything and do scratch damage (well, compared to what you could be doing). It's especially noticeable with Queen Elizabeth. Other BBs, as mentioned, have AP that works better on cruisers than their HE.

AnotherDuck replied to VC381's topic in Cruisers
Honestly, for the higher tier ones with the improved heal, SI is almost a waste, since you usually run out of healable HP before you run out of heals. In most games the total amount of healable HP you get is less than the total amount you can heal. It's almost to the point where the main reason to repair flooding is to get the speed back up, rather than to reduce the damage. However, that is an "almost", so you still benefit from having it. -
I actually agree. Asashio should get significantly buffed guns. What makes the PA DDs work despite their torpdoes lacking the ability to hit DDs is that they have proper guns that can hit DDs. Asashio doesn't have that, so she's more of a one-trick pony than even Kitakami was, which was removed for that reason. It's just a bad idea to have a ship that cannot fight even remotely well against anything that isn't a BB or CV. This should naturally come with a rebalance of the torps to compensate for the improved guns.

Rigged Unbalanced crap to Play no Fun, ripped off obvious lumpy ungraceful Game
AnotherDuck replied to freekymachine's topic in General Discussion
Your winrate is not statistically significant until you get around 1000 games, since there are so many things that factor into it, not the least the other 23 players (and if there's a CV, you have even less impact). We all know that unless you're a super unicum, winstreaks and losestreaks happen. You're likely to get a losestreak if you play several thousands of matches, and if that losestreak happens to be on a ship you don't get to have a winstreak on, then the stats are going to plummeth. Those streaks don't have to happen in streaks either, as they can easily be spread around. Considering how many different ships you play, it's bound to happen for at least a few ships.
