  2. Yeah. The guns work very well for kiting. Only some of the Russian DD guns have better arcs, and the IJN HE works for DDs as well. Shino, Kamika, and to some degree Yuugumo and Shima have the better guns of the IJN DDs, so they can work. Now I just wish I'd have a video of that old match where I sailed broadside at ~7 km to a Nürnberg in Kamika, just hitting W or S once in a while to dodge, and barely got hit at all while I sank that cruiser. You can get a lot of kills by kill securing. That's also usually when it's appropriate to open up your guns, rather than wearing them down to begin with.
  3. Shinonome isn't that strong of a gunboat. Strong for a torpedo boat, but it takes a bit more than 3 salvos to kill another DD (as a comparison, IJN CAs take down many DDs with 2 good salvos, and Shino isn't 2/3 as strong as the cruisers with very high HE alpha). And I say that as someone who's gunned down cruisers in Kamikaze and Shiratsuyu. Maybe also Shino, but I don't remember. But that said, I don't fear any USN DD or CL at 10+ km. The CAs are a little worse, but mainly just because CA damage is a lot higher for a single hit.

    It's just whining about players not playing according to model. It's not contructive criticism in any way. Don't expect whining to be reasonable or even accurate.

    Might've been a rendering issue with the fire. Sometimes things don't render, which makes it seem like the fires go out when they're actually still burning.

    I've not had many matches with Hipper, but it's a fun ship with the buff. Agile and tanky, with great AP damage.

    The post was agreeing with someone. That falls under venting. If you want to play the No True Scotsman game, sure, but don't expect to be taken seriously. I can carry in a -2 ship, and I'm only slightly above average. But carrying isn't the point. The point is that skill is far more important than what tier of ship you're playing. If there's luck involved (which there is), it's mostly about what everyone else does (i.e. related to their skill level), not what tier of ship they have. That would be fine if you're the only one who has to wait longer, but that wouldn't be the case. Everyone would have to wait longer just because you aren't satisfied with the matchup you get. And being allowed to opt out of MM's decision would make so many players cheese it as much as they can for statpaddery. Which would ultimately lead to a worse gameplay experience.

    That's the tutorial map. Surprisingly, WoWs does actually have a tutorial. It's fairly short, as its just about the interface and how to shoot, but it's there. And you play on that map.

    Everyone's allowed to vent here. You said it yourself that the forums are for venting. If you're going to complain about people not reading what you write, it would help if at least you read what you write. It already does promote skill, since skill has a higher impact on the games than tiers.

    Then the German BBs should get an accuracy buff on the main guns. If all the other ships get what the Germans have, they should get what the other ships have.

    The German BBs used to have an identity of brawling ships with turtleback and good secondaries. They were popular, so WG made many other BBs follow the exact same patterns. But without the drawbacks the German BBs have.
  14. fify I think it's the worst map in the game. It's incredibly campy, as there's a single line of islands that provide cover, and trying to cross that line means almost certain doom. On the other hand, if one team manages to take enough ground to drive the other team away from that line, then the game is pretty much decided. So either you camp harder than the other team, or you do a suicide charge that may win you the game.

    If they fix this problem I don't see an inherent problem with borderhugging. If a ship changes direction or speed suddenly you're probably going to miss even if you aim where the ship will actually be when the shells land. It's sort of like aiming perfectly at a ship before realising you have the wrong ship selected.
  16. Yayoi I'm not sure about. She can give you a lot of trouble, especially since you make fun of her name. That's probably the issue you have. Kinugasa drops on 1-5, which is easy. Shame on you for using her as remodel fuel when you don't have her otherwise. And for me she's far more reliable than her stats let on. She frequently gets MVP against stronger CAs (and BBs)

    The 20 km torps aren't as bad as other people make them out to be, but if you use them you really should be using TA. 16 km is still more than you need in almost all cases, and can sometimes hinder you if you're on a flank. My experience on this is a bit old, though, back when there were no other realistic options. The 12 km torps only suffers from the range very rarely, but in all other areas they're plain better. These are my to-go torps for any ship that stocks them. You can use TA with these as well, but in that case I'd rather suggest the 8 km torps and save the skill points. The 8 km torps require more skill, but they're much more viable now with the upgraded concealment of Shima. I've not played around with them yet in this configuration, though. Using TRB you get 16 torpedoes in one salvo. Shima has 15 at any given reload. TRB also kind of forces you to synch the reloads, while in Shima it's much more viable to choose exactly how many lanchers you want to use at any given situation. If there's one thing Shima has taught me, it's that you don't need to fire all your torpedoes at the same target at the same time. Often it's better to wait half a minute, since then you stand a chance of getting perma flood. I find that Z-52 suffers with concealment. Gearing also doesn't rely on gimmicks, which makes it overall more solid. I find that to be more important if you're not that skilled. The floaty arcs do take some getting used to, but they also make it easier to hide behind island without losing firepower.

    This is not WoT where being two tiers down can render you almost completely incapable of damaging enemy tanks. In WoWs, the biggest factor is still your own skill, even for the ships that struggle in bottom tier. I much prefer the diversity we have now over something much more similar, which is also more likely to increase queue times. As mentioned, the frequency is more of an issue. There should be some kind of preference for giving you a varied spread of tiers. It's shouldn't be a simple hard-coded limit, like if you get one or two bottom tier matches you're guaranteed a top or middle tier match, since that can be abused.

    That's kind of my opinion as well. And since she is the ship that's supposed to teach you how to play Yamato, playing her like Musashi is probably a good idea.

    If you can discount weaknesses because you can just "play around" them, then you can add, "don't get hit" to that list to avoid damage. Things like torpedo belt is not a benefit at all, since you can just not get hit by torpedoes. Yes, you can play to strengths and weaknesses. But that doesn't mean the cease existing.

    Not counting exposed citadel is bullcrap when most of the others have protected citadels, whether by turtleback or sunken down. Yes, armour is good frontally, but that assumes you don't get flanked or overrun. Which is not an assumption you can make in average gameplay.

    If it's more likely for the shells to overpen, it's also more likely to get citadels if you aim right. Yes, you do get a fair bit of overpens with Izumo (though not nearly as much as with Queen Elizabeth if you use AP on cruisers), but you can make it up since the shots are usually accurate enough to hit citadels, if you aim for them.

    I've done that many times. A couple of solo caps, a not insignificant amount of damage, and middle of the team. I barely see any experience from capping nowdays. The last few games I've ignored capping for the most part, with no apparent reduction in experience.
