Top tier DDs 8-10, do people enjoy them?

It depends on your preference, I suppose. The other details, however, are what tilts it for me. For that TRB you give up your smoke (and I'd easily give up Shima's smoke for TRB if that was an option). The gunpower, stealth, and agility are almost equal, but Shima has better health and speed to survive better in gunfights. And if we're bragging about records, I have my kill record in Yuugumo and my damage record in Shimakaze. Oh, and that Yuugumo match... Also have my highest single-salvo damage in Shimakaze.

Honestly, I don't use smoke a lot. That's probably why I've used TRB since the introduction on the old T7 Hatsuharu and T9 Kagero, when it was a 30 second reload. I can handle not having smoke just fine. But it does help covering for mistakes, and I do play aggressively. Which is also why the stealth upgrade for Shima benefitted me so much. I'm often at the range where that actually matters. Running the F3s, then? I usually run the mod. 3s, as I find the 12 km range is more versatile. Although as you can infer from above, I rarely use the max range (although one of the last games I played I got some 120k damage at 11.9 km), but it's nice to have, since you have so many more opportunities to torp. But if you want to crunch some numbers, the F3s on Yuugumo reload at 80 seconds with uprades and skills. Equivalent for Shimakaze is 100 seconds. Over a period of time, let's take 10 minutes, that translates to 7.5 launches for Yuugumo, which is 15 launchers or 60 torpedoes. For Shimakaze, that's 6 launches with 18 launchers or 90 torpedoes. If you use TRB three times during that, then you have 6 more launchers or 24 more torpedoes, which is more launchers but fewer torpedoes. That's an arbitrary time, of course, and maybe 15 minutes is better as an average active time for most battles. It's also being generous with the TRB, since the reload is 240 seconds and the max amount of reloads is 4 with SI. But the difference between them is how you manage the torpedoes. They do have a different type of management, as I mentioned before. For me, learning how to play Shimakaze has taught me how to evaluate situations better, and judge how many fishes I want to send down an alley. That might not be as helpful for the other IJN DDs, which either have TRB or rather short reloads, but it helps for other ships like the higher tier USN DDs. That's not actually it. I don't have much problems playing against radar myself. It's that games have become much campier since radar was introduced, and that's a major factor in it. It penalises scouting for destroyers, and as we all know very few players dare to push without destroyers ahead of them. It doesn't actually matter how effective radar is. What matters is the perceived threat it poses. Add to that island penetrating capabilities, which means you can be completely hidden and safe while using it, which still provides said threat. It's also part of the gimmick balancing stunts WG likes to try to pull off, which hurts the game overall. What most players do when they first get the Benson is that they turn their guns to one side. And then to the other. And then back again.

    Tachibana - Oh my...

I find that Tachibana can outshoot some cruisers. Sure, the guns are tiny, but many ships have no armour. You'll get citadel hits even with HE. The ship is also so tiny that shells will miss you quite a lot. It's a hilarious brawler. Umikaze on the other hand actually has armour, to the point where you can bounce battleship shells. That's always hilarious. And the ship works far better at T3-T5 anyway, due to how her stealth comes to much better use there. You also have a health pool comparable to those tiers. If you want to brawl, pick the first hull and use a secondary build. Both also have hilariously short torpedo reload.

Prinz Eugen/Hipper - How to make it work?

I think it's awesome that the silver ships get the more wanted upgrades than the gold ships. It's at least a tiny step away from their usual P2W policy.

I'm not entirely sure what your playstyle is, but they play relatively similar. There are some differences, though. Shima is faster, stronger, tougher, and most importantly has smoke (assuming you run TRB with Yuugumo, which you should), so you can take more risks. Or you can be safer with the risks you take. Check your survival rate to adjust. Before the stealth was a major difference, but isn't anymore. If that was your major problem, you can certainly try again. I've played both ships a lot, and I don't find the difference significant now, to the point where I very rarely play Yuugumo. That was the main reason I played both, since they had their own advantages. The torpedoes work slightly different. With Yuugumo, you always launch both launchers at once, so they're synched to get the most out of TRB. You can still delay ~30 seconds for perma flood if there's an opportunity without losing much efficiency (which you make up for in the permaflood anyway). With Shimakaze, I think you should very rarely launch all three launchers at once. Most of the time two is enough, if not just one. Remember that while the torpedoes hit for a ton, flooding is still a better damage source if you can get around the damecon. You'll also keep your opponents guessing more if you don't let them be safe for two minutes. With 3x5 launchers, this is much easier to do consistently than with 2x4 plus a few extra 2x4 per game. Please point to where I said you should go 1v1 against a Nicholas. I said (or implied) it's potentially possible (I've done it lots of times), not that you should do it.

Random Battle Game Mode Opt Out

Being allowed to opt out of game modes is a crap idea. Editing the poll is one of the best ways to destroy the data gathered. Most of the space wasted is you arguing against perfectly reasonable arguments. I mostly like Epicentre. And the old Tears of the Cruisers map was hilarious in a stealthy DD, since I usually spent most of those matches circulating in the middle of the cap. Which I normally do in Epicentre with those DDs anyway, but on that map it was especially funny.

Kamikaze has way better arcs than Nicholas, better fire chance, and it's a smaller and more agile target, so in a direct gunfight the practical damage isn't nearly as skewed as the stats imply. Again, if that's all you use your guns for in Kamikaze, you're missing out. I'm not saying they're the greatest guns ever, as you seem to imply. I'm saying they're workable by a competent captain.

DDs - Concealment expert or RPF

RL is probably the least useful for the Germans, thanks to a very powerful hydro. That removes some of the uses of RL. It's still a good skill to have, but it's not as strong as on an IJN DD, to pick one.

    Coal, Steel and Oil

I may only have one question about this so far, but it's an important one: How much steel does it take to construct additional pylons?

DDs - Concealment expert or RPF

If that's all you get from the skill, I'm glad, since that means there are people who're not skilled enough to use it against me.

If you're not using Kamikaze's guns, you're doing something wrong. They're the old punchy guns so you can do a lot of damage with a single salvo (well, for a DD). Sure, they're not as good as a dedicated gunboat with crap torps in comparison, but if they were it would be completely overpowered.

Community, where we have failed? Where?

This is just confirmation bias. It's so much easier to see who swears and screws up, compared to who keeps silent and plays "normally". Which is the majority of the players. Most players are decent and non-toxic. Half of all players are above average in skill, and most of those are decent or above.
  13. AnotherDuck

DDs - Concealment expert or RPF

Not completely so, I'd say. Before they changed the skills around it was extremely rigid. You've got a little more choice now without screwing yourself over. In particular T3 has many good skills for DDs. But it can certainly be a lot better. I pick it earlier than that in my IJN torpedo boats. 14 or 16. AR is very good, and definitely better for Random, but for other game modes RL is very valuable for the team, since it's an information skill. There are three positions I'm generally in: Caps, middle-map area control, and flanking. If I'm capping, I can use RL to aim torpedoes better into smoke, and see where someone enters the cap. If I'm in the middle of the map controlling the area, I can see if someone's tryingn to sneak up on me from any direction, and enemies tend to be in three out of four directions then. If I'm flanking, I can coordinate RL info with others for exact positioning, and see if I have a free path to their capital ships. Also, RL is almost as stupid as radar. Shouldn't have been added to the game.

Before the Shima stealth buff, I'd meet you halfway. Yuugumo has the advantage in the torpedo reload and very slightly in stealth. Since the stealth advantage now is so small, Yuugumo doesn't have as much to put on the table in comparison. Shima has the advantage in speed, survivability, and overall power. You always have 15 torps available (within reload), rather than only as far as your consumables allow (you'll run out of them, or you're probably doing something wrong). The difference between 15 and 16 full torpedo broadside is relatively insignificant (and 3 vs 4 launchers is more a matter of taste IMO), but the difference between 5 and 4 per launcher matters more. 5 makes it more viable to use single launches, and spread your aim around more, which makes for more consistent damage. It's also easier to get permafloods by holding your fire a bit. Both are fun to play, but recently I prefer Shimakaze. I also enjoy Gearing quite a bit.
  15. If you go in tanking for your helpful teammates, they will gladly bowtank in reverse two and a half squares behind you and give you support to their fullest ability. I had that happen recently. An Alabama and a Montana just let me and our Lo Yang die because they couldn't bear to have the paint scratched on their newly painted hulls. And it's not like I wasn't tanking for them. I was in Bismarck doing Bismarck things (i.e. farming secondary hits) and taking all of the damage so our DD could cap in peace. Then again, I wouldn't play quite as aggressively if it wasn't for the mission, but come on. Notice that if someone's in front of you, the enemy is most likely not going to shoot your cowardly bowtanking battleship. But there's a battleship spotted on the map. Of course reversing is the only option.

Community, where we have failed? Where?

The WoWs community is very solid in general, and there are tons of guides for ships, builds, and strategies. Many of them are easily findable on the forums. If not that, there's a strong YouTube presence. The community has not failed in that aspect. LoL's community is far more toxic than WoT, which is more toxic than WoWs. For a PvP game, WoWs has a very respectable and polite community. What you're talking about here is one, bullcrap, since players are not reluctant to help at all. If they're reluctant, that's probably because they've detected a noob who doesn't want to learn, or someone who just wants to complain, and two, Wargaming's problem with relying almost entirely on the community to provide support for new players. There's a very brief tutorial that covers the very basics of how to play the game, but other than that, WG likes to throw new players very quickly into the fray. There are also those small loading screen tips.

    OP destroyers with radar

Radar on DDs is just as stupid as radar in general. Radar on DDs with smoke is incredibly stupid, making Black one, if not the most, stupid ship in the game. Lo Yang never should've gotten the hydro buff. Otherwise it's fine.

What's the point of automated chat ban?

My opinion is basically that if you get chat banned, you've probably done your fair bit of trash talking, insulting, or otherwise being a [edited]. I'm often worse in chat than what people whining about being chat banned claim they are, and I don't get chat banned nearly as much. Or at all. edit: Wait, "pr*ck" is a banned word on these forums? It's not even nearly as offensive as some of the other words I use...

    Warning

I sell some if I don't think I'll ever use them, and I have at least one or two ships on that tier, preferably one of each type, and I really need the money (i.e. I'm too lazy to grind Missouri a few dozen matches). Or if I've run out of port slots and want to buy a new ship. I recently cleaned up about half my captains, including the redundant ARP captains, since I'd forgotten you can dismiss them now. Not really because I needed the space, since WG gives me more space all the time, but because it's just so cluttered with incompetent captains all over the place.

    Load time unreasonable

My computer is way older than anyone else's and it works well enough. I have had an increase in loading time before I get to the loading screen (the spinny icon in the middle spins, but I don't get to the pre-match map and lineup with the countdown), but even with that I still get into the match with a few to ~20 seconds left.

Is the Tachibana Lima mission only for US players?

I had a problem that I believe was the page redirecting me to the US server when I entered from the EU server, so I had to re-login again, but it worked when I just reloaded the page, for some reason.
  23. I think the film has the best interpretation I've seen of what abyssals are, how they become and unbecome, etc. (even if the very end was a little bit too far-fetched). And concerning the pic I posted before, that's the kai ni I wanted back when it was first hinted at. Or somewhat before. Would've been awesome. Missed opportunity, I think. Would probably have become my second or third favourite destroyer.
  24. Did you block any of those BB shells for him with your ship? No? Then you totally didn't support him enough. I mean, come on, git gud.
  25. Honestly, I wouldn't say the Kancolle anime is that bad. It's average, or above average if you like the style. Although that's probably because I've seen a bunch of crap anime. I also don't have the strange aversion towards CG everyone seems to have. Most of the fandom-inspired character traits are worse than the canon ones, like Nagamon, Ashigara's desperation, etc. Best part of the film was, and this is actually a spoiler:
