Spotting Damage - only in WoT, NOT in WoWS
AnotherDuck replied to SFCGunny313's topic in General Discussion
That's people being stupid (and not something you see if you're the DD they're supposed to shoot ), since shooting DDs is much more rewarding. Experience is awarded depending on how much damage counting in percent, not in absolute numbers. -
Spotting Damage - only in WoT, NOT in WoWS
AnotherDuck replied to SFCGunny313's topic in General Discussion
The thing is, if you don't do damage, and don't cap, you're going to get almost nothing if you lose, and very little more if you win. If you do the solo route and do decent at it, you'll get more experience and credits even if you lose. Playing selfishly has a better average profit than playing for the team. -
In a cruiser, you can also consider setting a fire with HE and then switching to AP if you think it's going to be a longer battle. In a battleship, if you know you're going to shoot at a destroyer, you can switch to HE. Sometimes I find HE to also work better on carriers, especially if you find yourself always overpenetrate and do 10% damage. Not to mention, if you manage to set the carrier on fire, she's crippled until the fire is put out. If another battleship is sailing straight towards or away from you, HE could also do more damage, since getting good penetrations at that angle can be tricky. Of course, since battleships have a long reload time, often the situation can change from when you start to load to when you're ready to shoot, so overall it's better to just stick to AP if you're not certain.

Captain Skill "Fire Prevention" - Redesign
AnotherDuck replied to Spuggy's topic in General Discussion
What did you expect Fire Prevention to do? Take 7 percentage points away from individual shell fire chance? Like taking a shell with 14% chance and reducing it to 7%? That's a 50% reduction of fire chance. It would also make you immune to anything with 7% or lower fire chance, which would make it stupidly overpowered. -
ARP Haruna : no interest : it is a copy of ARP Kongo

Wasn't the tier 7 quest for the 16-point captain, while the quest for the actual ship was at tier 5? -
As I believe someone else has said, if anything that's a nerf to Japanese DDs. They don't really have a problem with turret destruction, or at least not compared to other DDs, but on the other hand, they have good damage on their shots, so they can easily destroy turrets on enemy DDs. Not so much with that buff.

So, basically, a small, fast Kitakami?

Real life stuff can inspire how the game works, and certainly how it looks, but compared to actual gameplay balance, it's not significant. I mean, real life ships didn't sink time and time again, just to pick what's probably the least realistic concept in the game. With partially spotted ships only visible on the minimap, I wonder how long it'd take someone to make a mod that placed a marker on the main screen.
-
Contrary to popular belief, Japanese DDs have guns too. Later ones have pretty good guns, but even early ones have guns that can do damage on a CV. Japanese HE shells overall are also relatively good at setting fires, which cripples CVs, so you don't have to worry about anything other than other ships trying to defend the CV. Which is a real possibility, but hey, you're playing a DD. If you catch a CV heading your way, she's not going to be able to turn away and run if you go at it. Feel free to torp at spitting range.

Exchanging elite ships xp for in-game goods
AnotherDuck replied to Pekoe_Darjeeling's topic in General Discussion
I'd rather increase the captain experience gained. -
Isokaze is one of my favourite ships in the game, along with Umikaze. They're just so much fun to play. Clemson isn't bad at all, though. Certainly good at different aspects, and perhaps the best ship in the southwest/central area of the Big Race map, and similar areas.
-
I usually report fail divisions, for all it does. You could have an automatic strike against them if they end up in the bottom third of the experience list at the end. Sometimes, rarely, I see someone doing well despite being much lower tier, usually in a Japanese destroyer, particularly Umikaze (which to me seems to do better at tier 4-5 than 1-3), but pretty much all other ships aren't that great at overtier matches. DD? I thought they only made submarines.

Radar Through Islands - Fix it please...
AnotherDuck replied to Cirrus4000's topic in General Discussion
With my experience with radars, dasCKD is correct. -
Carriers are OP, Battleships are OP, Cruisers are OP, Destroyers are OP
AnotherDuck replied to Ectar_'s topic in General Discussion
From that comment, before I looked at the picture, I was expecting something like an average of two tiers down on every type of ship (excluding carriers), but that actually seems reasonably even. Also, you're in a St. Louis. -
WG please make MatchMaker to mirror number of DDs in "Domination" game mode!
AnotherDuck replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I don't think a complete mirroring is necessary, but reducing the discrepancy to at most one DD more on one team (if there's an uneven number of them) would probably be beneficial.- 26 replies

How much total damage can a CV dish out during one round of attacks compared to a BB during the same time? By one round I mean the time from first launch until all available squadrons have flown out, attacked, come back, and been reloaded so they're ready for takeoff again. Just comparing a single strike doesn't mean anything, since it takes a lot of time to prepare for that one strike, but on the other hand, a CV usually has more squadrons to strike with.
-
True. I was using a fairly generous definition of RNG that includes whatever random choices your more or probably less competent team mates and enemies make.
-
CAs are harder to play than BBs (not going to say anything about CVs, since I don't like playing them), but with less RNG. DDs are harder to play than BBs, but are more RNG dependent due to low torpedo hit rate, higher risks (if you think you die quickly if you make a mistake in a CA, well...) and higher rewards (mainly due to capping potential).

Radar / Hydro should have a negative side effect
AnotherDuck replied to Fogas21's topic in General Discussion
I have tried it, and that's in an environment that frequently had more Yamatos than DDs. There's no other consumable in the game that makes it easier to kill any other ship. You can't really run from a radar unless you're already running, or if the cruiser is heading in a different direction (in which case she probably didn't know you were there in the first place). The difference in ship speed isn't that much, and if you're also trying to dodge shots, you're going to bleed even more speed. That's even if you're close to the edge of the radar range. If you're closer than that, you're going to be focus-fired upon for the entire duration, which is what generally happens to visible destroyers closer than 10 km, and sometimes more. -
Radar / Hydro should have a negative side effect
AnotherDuck replied to Fogas21's topic in General Discussion
So, with those three salvos per radar, and the few uses you can go through in a match, is that enough to kill a destroyer? Because then you have a single consumable that's by itself responsible for you killing a full-HP ship. Smoke isn't nearly that powerful, if you want to use that as a comparison. No other consumable is that powerful. -
Which really sounds backwards, considering there's only one cap, and if you cap it, you automatically win.

Tier 7&8 Cruisers, do they need repair parties?
AnotherDuck replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
Of those I only really have experience with Myoko (and a couple of battles with Pensa and Nawlins). Myoko's relatively fine as she is, but a lesser heal (either amount of charges or HP healed) wouldn't be imbalanced, I think. -

Sonar's fine. Radar has problems, though I've said enough about that elsewhere. By the way, since no one mentioned it (that I saw), radar replaces the airplane, so you can have it along with AA barrage or sonar, and healing. -
I would like a new compliment option other than "plays well" and "helpful in chat": Being polite in chat (with twice the limit per day).
