Actually, if the islands aren't huge like on Two Brothers, you can usually shoot over them at those ranges. Well, assuming the game doesn't decide that you're aiming for the mountain, rather than behind it, but that's another issue). But just because you can shoot doesn't mean you can hit. Admittedly, I have hit a Farragut at spotter plane range in a Hiei, which just so happened to be on Trident... I still like Trident, though. It's a reasonably intense map, with decent island placements.

Carriers are OP, Battleships are OP, Cruisers are OP, Destroyers are OP
AnotherDuck replied to Ectar_'s topic in General Discussion
Limiting the number of DDs is a bad idea. They don't have the same effect on the battle in large numbers as carriers do. Limiting the number difference of DDs on the teams is a good idea. It doesn't need to be exact mirror-matching as with CVs, but if there are two+ more DDs on one team, reshuffle the DDs so they're more evenly spread out. -
Proposal: Torpedoes require minimum launch distance.
AnotherDuck replied to ApesTogetherStronK's topic in General Discussion
This isn't a case of balance. It's a case of nitpicking. The skill it takes for a DD to get that close to any ship is far different from the skill it takes for a carrier to fly torpedo planes over any ship. It would be a case if DDs could sail through islands at the speed of a plane. -
I rarely have that much of a problem with fires in a BB. Does a bit of damage, but I can heal it right back up. If I take fire in many places I'm usually also under heavy shelling which I take a whole lot more damage from.

BB captains basically decide the matches now
AnotherDuck replied to T3ddyBear's topic in General Discussion
I usually do that because IJN BBs often have the range to shoot pretty much from spawn, as soon as something is spotted, so I want to get the guns turned quickly. At that range, there's a fairly low hit chance, but any hit chance is better than none. It also allows me to get to the side, where it's often easier to find broadsides to paddle. I don't stay at that range, though, because then my ally cruisers will die off while I'm at long range with poor accuracy. Instead I settle for that sweet-spot angle where you can still shoot all guns but don't show too much of a broadside, and turning between shots. -

Sometimes just saying something resembling a plan works well enough. Sometimes people will agree. Sometimes they'll disagree. But any plan is better than no plan. So speak up. In a battleship, you do have slightly more control over the plan than other ships. If you say, "I'm going this way," people are going to follow. There's a battleship going that way, so if they go there, they at the very least have a battleship there to back them up. And that battleship seems intelligent enough to at least mention her plan to the team, so that's a good sign, right? As for the who's on first discussion of being closest to the enemies, other than destroyers, which of cruisers or battleships are actually closer doesn't matter so much as that they're reasonably close to each other. If you don't have destroyers screening, you probabaly want the cruisers ahead (with planes up), but other than that, if you're reasonably close you'll also be protected from aircraft well enough. But don't get too close so you can't turn to avoid torpedoes. -
Comparing stuff like this with what real life ships had access to doesn't really make sense, since they also had a full crew who could make calculations for everything, and they had a little longer time to aim per salvo, since there weren't a whole lot of engagements that ended in less than a minute. Anyway, aiming at the positions a lead indicator would show isn't hard at all. I'm not that good (about average hit rate, I believe), and I hit the right area most of the time on the first spotter plane assisted salvo in a Japanese BB (actually getting RNG to hit the shells is a different matter). It's when they're turning or changing speed it gets difficult, and a lead indicator wouldn't help much with that. Well, that's not entirely true. The indicator would start to change in a way that makes it obvious what the ship's doing. I sometimes use the torpedo lead indicator for aiming my guns, since that tells me roughly the speed of the ship, and if it's turning or changing speed.

It's not that DDs fault she got hit by your torps. Your torps, your responsibility. End of story. A few hours ago I had a match in my Umikaze, where I had almost all opportunities to torp blocked by "friendly" ships. DDs who think the best position is between another DD and the enemies. BBs who think they should charge to within 4 km range of another BB when a DD is trying to get that friendly BB out of the way to torp safely. If I had torped at any of those situations, and I had hit an ally, that would've been my fault, no matter how stupid the team mates were.

I think I mentioned in the other thread, but I agree that secondaries shouldn't factor into making you pink. Possibly make an exception if you've done less than 500 damage or something (in total, over multiple matches).
-
I find that while that's true in theory, I've never had that luck. Well, rarely, at least. I have managed to delete another cruiser with my opening salvo once. Thought I got a detonation. Nope. But overall, doesn't perform as well for me as Japanese cruisers (or my very limited experience with USN cruisers at mid tiers). I find she's very similar to Myoko (but without torps), who few people seem to dislike. Same playstyle works. Be careful about showing broadsides, and load AP unless you're hunting DDs.

Oh, right, I forgot about encounter mode, since it doesn't happen anymore. It usually turns into "kill all other ships who don't convert to Border Huggers Anonymous", but it's fun to play once in a while.

I agree. They should call it "Admiral".

Do you think the win criteria for events should be based on ships sunk or damage caused?
AnotherDuck replied to Rogue_6's topic in General Discussion
I think either one is still better than the "cause fires" requirements for some event quests. Those actively promote a sub-standard playstyle. It's like WG wants all cruisers to always spam HE all day long. (Hint: Against other cruisers, AP is usually the better option.) As for damage vs kills, they have their respective benefits. If the quest is type-restricted, I'd prefer damage. If it isn't, different types of ships simply do different amounts of damage overall. It's far easier to do a lot of damage in a battleship than in a destroyer, for instance. Or rather, it's easier to do it consistently, since you can certainly have those high-damage games in any class. The best way is to have both at once. That means if you're just trying to snipe kills, you're missing out on damage, and if you're not finishing enemies off (which admittedly I do a lot of in battleships, since I'd rather spend my time on dishing out damage while the ships with less damage potential can finish the low-health ships off), you're missing out on kills. -
Okey seriously im pink after 1 accident

One time I torped team mate it was more funny than not. It was the edge of the torpedo range, in either Minekaze or Mutsuki, forgot which one. The one I torped was a division mate. And we were in a Skype call. And I mentioned the torpedoes several times. -
I like both, so I voted for both. Overall I like domination slightly more, mainly since I play a lot of DDs, but without standard it would become more stale. If I play a battleship in a standard battle, my team is going to be at a disadvantage if they camp, since that's not what I do. Sure, I could play the range games with my Japanese BBs, but that's just not as fun. Long range is for getting first shots in, and citadelling those cruisers and battleships who think they're so far out of range I'll never hit.
-
Going to go with a general opinion of German cruisers, especially in the mid tiers. They're just overall rather bad for me. I can also add Japanese stock BBs, but that's kind of cheating. They're all decent enough once upgraded, even Kawachi.
-
I usually prefer domination mode over standard battles, since the former forces people to actually do something, rather than sit back and snipe. The only thing that speaks against that is that the home base is often not a great place to sit around in. You usually find better positions if you move up a little. But in either case, I think the 1000 point limit is fine. It prevents games from going on too long at a stalemate or just hunting the last remaining and fleeing ships. I find that to be the case more often than the times they ruin a good game (not that I've not had my fair share of games where just a few seconds more would've been great). I also recently had a game where I almost made it to the enemy cap without taking any damage. I went through the middle of Fault Line. In a Nagato.

What I want to know is: Where are all the cruisers spamming HE on BBs and ignoring DDs when I'm in a DD? I never run into those...

I find these forums to be pretty hostile overall. Tons and tons of personal attacks, based on stats and not. Mostly, people who lower themselves to personal attacks rather than focusing on the actual posts and arguments in them are about as good at discussing as those 40% WR players are at WoW. If you attack the poster, your posts aren't worth the paper they're written on.

I'd probably rather want a T6 ship over a T5 ship, what with the Kongos (though to be fair, they're not IJN ships) and Kamikaze already at T5. So, Kinugasa? Which as far as I know is exactly like Aoba, but...
-
Do you expect people to rely on the arguments they can make in their own posts rather than on stats for personal attacks?

The best scouts are DDs and carrier planes. Those are what should spot DDs. A DD hanging behind any other ship is doing it wrong. Even if you're just waiting for your torps to reload, you're actually benefitting your team if you screen for torps and DDs. However, since DDs are maybe the most solo-capable ships, and doing damage beats spotting in terms of experience and credit gain, guess what DDs are going to go for.

Someone forgot to adjust 'Situational Awareness' in 0.5.5
AnotherDuck replied to WhiskeyWolf's topic in General Discussion
I've noticed those delays as well, although not quite the same way, maybe. Mostly it's in the form of the ship actually appearing. Say I'm rounding a corner (meaning detectability range isn't an issue). The detected warning pops up and I scan for ships. Only a few seconds after does it appear. -

Incorrect number of Mogami torpedo tubes
AnotherDuck replied to Micromagos's topic in General Discussion
The game would be more boring without a 2-tier difference.
