Sunk without being hit! Please help with technical explanation
Aotearas replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in General Discussion
Erm, have you watched the video? Link with timestamp to the relevant part, where they clearly and beyond any doubt say that even on a miss, an HE shell's splash damage will still damage any ship modules within its splash area and can cause magazine detonations. -

Naw, that's still the Black with its 43 knot torpedoes. Russian DDs in that tier bracket can literally run away from those torps -

Yup. 8,5 seconds reload and a measly 750m/s muzzle velocity on the guns and only 2x2 torps with 51 knots. Mamma mia ... -

Detonation triggered by HE splash damage. Is "fun and engaging", comrade. -
promised T9 Premium DD: finally here?
Aotearas replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
5,6km surface detectability with all shebangs though (if my math is correct). That. Would be a much more sensible progression. The only question then would be what WG intends to do with the Udaloi. -
From what I hear that feeling is very much mutual Can't we just agree to kick US buttocks? A friendship building military exercise!

Clan Battles: "North" Season - Discussion Thread
Aotearas replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Let me preface this my apologizing for my antagonizing tone in the original comment. I was a bit miffed at that point but it's hardly a good way to start what should be an honest discussion. I'm sorry, but that reasoning has a big, glaring hole in it. It's true you can't please everyone and that there's always something you can't account for when planning event schedules. But christmas and new year isn't exactly something that should surprise anyone. And compared with the plethora of unknowns that might displease people if you had a different schedule it's damn well plain obvious how setting CBs smackdab intersected by christmas would displease others. Between choosing a vague, unknown possibility and a known one, it should be obvious which one is the easiest to circumvent. So please, consider that for future event planning. I can obviously not speak for anyone else, nor claim that my case is the average but I live abroad from my family and really only get to see them once a year over christmas and new years. All things in total that's close to three weeks of me having very limited access to a PC (for control over which I'm going to have to fight my father) and my family would understandably not like me shutting myself in over a couple hours long CB session multiple times a week. And even without all those quite physical limitations I'm fairly sure that even people with access and time to play CBs over that time wouldn't terribly mind if there wasn't CBs around, but instead (and that would be suggestion to fill in the blanks) have a more leisure (i.e.: not grindy) event stretching this time period. If anything, having christmas (and new year) acting as a cooldown buffer in between competitive seasons might even be overall appreciated (I think we all know how stressful competitive gameplay can get, particularily Ranked). So yeah, once more I plead with you guys to please consider tweaking the schedule for the future. That's all I'm asking. -
Don't even try to spin this into a "you two vs the world" narrative, that's hardly representative and you should know that. I could just the same turn that argumentation of yours around and say it's just inconvenient for you to wait a bit longer for CBs and that the playerbase is bigger than just you. See how that isn't exactly a productive point to make? Point is: December is chockfull with family related holidays and assorted festivities, which is basically the antithesis to sitting in front of a PC for hours and there's no pressing reason why WG shouldn't schedule CBs into a timeframe sometime either prior or following the christmas/new year's season.
-
Not to mention that people tend to visit family abroad over christmas and new year and not everyone brings their PC along for the ride or can just appropriate a family member's PC, nevermind do so over several hours during a CB session. Referring to what I jsut wrote above, that one week period amounts to roughly three weeks during which I limited access to a PC (and I'd have to fight my father for it) and even less intention of NOT spending my time with my family. Suddenly that single week looks more like half the season ... No it didn't.

Clan Battles: "North" Season - Discussion Thread
Aotearas replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
CBs over the christmas season, brilliant ... Can I get one of the headhonchos @MrConway, @Tuccy, @Crysantos to pass along the idea that maybe, just maybe, people are looking forward to spending time with families during that time rather than play CBs so it might be beneficial for all parties involved if upcoming competitive events are NOT scheduled over the same time as traditional family festivities? I mean, right now CBs is about the only thing I'm motivated to fire up WoWs for, yet I'll only be able to realistically participate in at most half of that season because I'm sure as hell not going to miss out on spending time with my family. And I'm fairly certain I can't be the only one with that sentiment. By the way, this is EXACTLY why people are getting fatigued ... "oh sure, you can visit family and everything, all you do is miss out on those awesome CB rewards if you don't play" ... -
First of all, DDs will only be immune from instant deletion if they're still on high enough HP. A handful AP overpens still do a lot of damage. Secondly, if you want to deal lots of damage to DDs, shoot HE like you're supposed to. Thirdly, the CE nerf amounts to a grand total of 2% for cruisers and 4% for battleships. Meanwhile the Yue Yang is about to get hit by a 33% gun and 15% torpedo dpm nerf. So please don't act as if 2% or 4% is going to bring the rupture about. But whatever, this thread was basically dead on arrival anyway so you lot can just go rant your hearts out for all I care. Have fun with that.

Uhm, they do? All the time? Just like they do in every other class they play?

WG, for the next events, can we PLEASE return to a situation where not everything is time-gated and drip-fed with ridiculously short intervals?
Aotearas replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I've actually stopped playing WoWs for several weeks now already and no real intention to playing again anytime soon. That's with premium time still active and thus being wasted mind you. Simply because if WG isn't allowing me to take a break from the constant and nonstop grind for this or that (grind missions for free premiums, grind CBs for steel, grind tier X for legendary upgrades, yadda yadda), then I'm just going to take that break on my own before I completely burn out. I get that WG wants to offer content for players, but this entire nonstop grindfest with basically no time to just chill out and not grind for something is just exhausting. There have to be regular lulls in the whole thing where people can either just chill out doing normal randoms or whatever, not this "but wait, there's more" stuff as if this were one of those 24hrs commercial TV channels. -
Funfact: DDs are supposed to counter BBs. It's called game balance. Also I'm pretty sure no one in their right mind is calling BBs in general straight up OP. They're saying that too many BBs are bad for the meta, the same way they also say too many DDs and/or too many radar ships are bad, mkay.

Has it ever occured to you that the reason it has been discussed so many times and we evidently still don't have anything like it may just be because it's not possible to come up with a working, practical solution? This is a multiplayer game and just as with any other PvP game in existence you're always going to end up getting matched with and against people of varying experience and skill. That is only compounded by the option to buy premium ships across most of the game's tiers and hop into a match with as little as zero experience playing at that level. If you absolutely can't stomach that thought, play CoOp.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I checked you couldn't get the Cossack by grinding the missions, you could at best get a sizeable discount but in the end you'd still have to fill in the rest via premium shop. Certainly a neat thing for people that want the ship and have the free time to grind all the missions, but hardly an incentive for people that don't want to grind for the privilege if getting a discount on something they're still going to have to pay some money for. And to put this into perspective, all that grind playing the game for the missions amounts to a good bunch of hours. I can just aswell simply work the same amount of time and flat out buy the ship anyway and spend my actual freetime doing other stuff. That's one day of earning actual cash, done. Compared to have the gameplay grind being forced into intervals that may or may not fit into someone's schedule. To me, that hardly sounds like a generous offer at all. -
Pretty sure from the wording of his rant that he was complaining about multiple clan divs compromised of potatoes making it into the same team, making their suboptimal play much more deciding than if it was just one division of potatoes. Honestly I can understand where he comes from, have seen that happen a handful times (but no more really), always fun to see literally half your team yolo through the mid channel on Two Brothers only to die. Then again, it's hardly that different from how normal randoms have been playing for a long time now (in my opinion and experience at least), and having a division sync getting seeded into the same team is pretty rare, so ...

Last one actually has proper lyrics, but they're in German so~ ... enjoy at your own leisure. I find the video to be very humourous though, the skit with the DJ is bloody hilarious.

Depends, are you averse to torrenting? Since Crunchyroll still has a quite limited offering in my region (thanks geoblocking license *edit!) I've basically got to make due with torrenting and I could give you a pretty comprehensive website aswell as a fan-sub group that I typically get my stuff from. Technically you could go for anime streaming a lá Kissanime, but quite frankly I don't really like that website and it's not that much different from torrenting anyway.

Lets hope that "Alaska" will be FreeXP now that "Jean Bart" is Coal/Money and "Bourgogne" is Steel...
Aotearas replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Well, that's something WG should've considered before flooding its ingame economy with all that. Currency loses value if you just keep printing notes. Funny though that despite free XP being so much easier to stockpile the free XP conversion rate hasn't changed a bit to reflect the economy inflation, eh? -

Aotearas replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Which is why I'm saying that argument in defense for increased free XP pricing makes no sense. Especially since the impact on players wouldn't be proportional, making it an inherently unfair solution to said problem of free XP abundance.
