[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy

Hope everyone had a merry christmas with lots of joy and everything else. I'm going to continue frolocking with my family and robbing their pantry. I'll be back late the 5th of january so I might be back in time for the CB session that day (depends on how I feel after travelling of course), in case anyone wants to know in anticipation of going back to play Alpha in force. A cautionary warning to our DnD group @Loran_Battle, etc. I might in fact not be able to do the small session on the 31rst because we're getting visit from longtime family friends. My sister also literally just said to tell you guys best wishes as I was typing this so there's that too . See y'all in the new year and have a good one!!!

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy

Right-o fellow windowlickers, I'll be off to plunder my parents' pantry over the holidays and New Year's. Will be back on the second week of january, so at the latest I should be present for CBs on the 12th and 13th, maybe (just maybe) for the weekend just before that but don't count on that*. Anyway, should be enough sessions to try and finish the Typhoon missions and have a last stab at Hurricane league! Cheers guys and I wish everyone a merry christmas, relaxing holidays and a happy new year!!! *You might see me online every now and then, but since I'm going to have to fight my father tooth and nail for control over his PC I'm not going to be available for divisions or CB! As for DnD @Loran_Battle, @Reaper_JackGBR, @Miessa3 and @Tibius_Kane I'm going to try me best on my diplomacy roll for the 31rst evening so I should be available for a couple hours.

    Just another shippost

    Needs more AP bombs.
  4. This ship is just absurd: Let me just casually citadel a Montana at 19,4km range. Oh, that's just a fluke you might say? Let me just do it again with the next salvo. Lots of people like to focus the Balansgrad though. Kind of surprised, typically randoms are happy to ignore high value targets like radar cruisers or destroyers ... but the moment they see a Stalingrad everyone drops what they're doing and goes all Shining on your glorious soviet arse. Can't fault them for it.
  5. Just got reminded that you can still get detonated in CoOp and since you don't get any awards in that mode, you also don't get the consolation signal flags.

    Snowflakes

Got to say the event is ludicrously grindy. It's nice to get ressources, but having to play every single qualifying ship takes bloody ages even if you just drop into CoOp for easy wins (I can't even image how utterly mindboggling trying to get all those wins in randoms would be, just urgh). I'm not even through all of my steel snowflakes and already the grind is starting to become annoying and if we're talking CoOp, boringly repetitive. I think it would've been much easier if you simply awarded on a tier by tier basis. Got 20 tier V ships with snowflakes? Play and win a tier V game and you get all of them. Repeat for every other qualifying tier. For premium ships I could say keep the current format (especially since I won't be needing to play with untrained captains as I can freely switch those around on premium ships), but for regular tech-tree ships the sheer amount of games you need to play to get all the snowflakes is just too much. Summoning @MrConway, @Tuccy and @Crysantos to take note.

Japanese Destroyer Captain -. Rookie Player

Build is solid and so is your reasoning on dropping PT. As for Inertie Fuse for HE shells (IFHE for short) on DDs you don't really need it, with the only exceptions being the RN tier IX and X due to their 114mm guns not having enough HE penetration to damage other DDs at their tier. To expand on IFHE and where it's useful it's important to understand HE penetration and typical armour thresholds. HE penetration is by default 1/6 of the shell caliber (1/4 for the IJN tier VIII, IX and X gunboat line, so Akizuki and up). For a 127mm HE shell, that's 21mm HE penetration (you can also see that if you hover your mouse over the detailed port statistics of your mainguns, though there it says the amount of armour you can penetrate, so if it says 20 it means you can damage 20mm of armour, it's still the same as 21mm HE pen just displayed in a more intuitional number). That means you can penetrate any armour thinner than 21mm (so you can penetrate 20mm of armour, but not 21mm!!!). Since your typical targets (DD hulls and bigship superstructures) typically peak at 19mm (less in the lower tiers) you can still damage those. The most deciding armour thresholds for HE shells in this game are 19mm (DD and lowtier BB hulls and superstructures), 25mm (CA and midtier BB hulls), 27mm (US and KM hightier CA hull armour), 30mm (CA deck armour), 32mm (hightier BB hulls) and the last big one is 50mms (big CA and some BB midships and deck armour). With IFHE on 127mm guns you'd boost your HE penetration to 28mm, meaning you'd beat the 25 and 27mm threshold that would allow you to penetrate most cruiser hulls and midtier BB hulls, but for most DDs you don't want to be engaging in firefights with those ships anyway and 4 captain points are typically better spend elsewhere. IFHE really shines on CLs though since with that skill, the 152/155mm caliber guns can damage 32mm armour, which enables them to deal damage to BB hulls which is much more important for a cruiser. If you ever go down the IJN gunboat line (Akizuki and up), then IFHE becomes attractive since it boosts the already buffed 1/4 caliber HE pen from 25 to 33, which means you pass several important armour thresholds (25-32mm) that lets you damage almost all cruisers and battleships, which combined with the sheer dpm on those 100mm guns makes you a very nasty opponent that can even win straight up firefights against some cruisers in a 1vs1 if you pick your engagements correctly.
  8. Nice for WG to have the option to use doubloons. Something that had been lacking previously so it's nice to see them offering something of value and a way to grind down whatever mountain of doubloons some people may have lying around unused. Though personally I don't quite feel confident enough in my enjoyment longevity to make a one year investment at this point ... looking at you 0.8.0
  9. The best part is that people still CoOp like it's randoms, complete with battleships hiding in the back and/or cruisers and destroyers going on wide (!) flanking manouvers. Considering the Leroy Jenkins'ish nature of how bots approach the battle, it's hilarious to see four human BB players on your team huddle behind islands whilst I rush straight into the enemy in my Lo Yang, kill four of the bots myself and then only after I died and there's hardly any opposition left the BBs get brave enough to come up from behind their islands. Kinda both sad and hilarious at the same time.

    Fara on carrier rework

Give it two months with as-of-yet unbalanced CV rework on the live server because they "need more data".
  11. On one hand, the campaign is artifically bloated by containing premium time, santa crates, etc. rather than just steel rewards. Having a barebones campaign that simply rewards steel and nothing else should be considerably cheaper. On the other hand, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of steel for purchase anyway since it sets the precedence that could very well open the proverbial floodgates down the road and lead to the devaluation of steel as an earned reward in favour of just whaling with one's wallet and a possible ressource saturation much like the current free XP situation (previous tier IX freemium ships for 750.000 free XP, now the tier IX Alaska confirmed for 1.000.000). Even when it sounds elitist I'd rather prefer if WG kept steel to competitive or less frequent event rewards (current snowflake event is a nice thing that rewards veterans but also gives newer players a small starting bank) than starting to monetize it. Especially under the obvious pretense of making powerful steel premiums the eventual reward for purchasing such steel campaigns.

    Buff Stalingrad

Yeah, buff plz. The ship is so UP that I developed a splitting headache actually preventing me from playing alltogether. It's so bad it makes my physically ill.
  13. You could integrate stuff like that into the Arsenal. We appear to be getting unique captains for doubloons in the Arsenal soon so the option to pay with doubloons is being implemented. There's still people around with plenty doubloons and little to spend it on after all.
  14. I liek big numbahs. U no taek away big numbahs. Or we no be fwiends!

    Fara on carrier rework

It's ironic that you guys derail a topic just because you have personal beef with the OP and mouthing off saying he's a troll (and other assorted insults). If you guys were so "tilted" that you have to confront him, why couldn't you do it over a PM instead of playing the dramaqueens for everyone to see? Pot, meet kettle.

No USS Alaska in update 0.7.12?

If you had read the first paragraph you'd know why I think having radar on a DD isn't exactly important.

    Atlanta - advice needed

What can I say, my Atlanta really worships her older sister and the Woostah dotes on her little sis so they share everything. You wouldn't want to drive a wedge in a loving family, puberty is going to hit eventually anyway and then Atlanta is going to get some weird tattoo camouflages, start drinking unrefined petrol and hang out with IJN CAs just to piss off mommy Des Moines. She might even start smoking like her delinquent step-sister!

Two point tactics on EU server

Name of the game is the same: map control. Might be EU players on average like to think of themselves as tacticians, but in the end it either comes down to establishing map control or more usually pushing through the caps needlessly into the enemy spawn and getting kited to death whereas the enemy just circles around and captures the flags behind their yoloing backs because the "kill all" mentality kicked into overdrive.

Like I said, sharing the captain with Worcester ...

    Atlanta - advice needed

No no no, you want the CV, an Atlanta and a Sims with DFAA! Sims can smoke up the Atlanta and with BFT (which is a much less controversial pick on that ship since you don't need 4 points for IFHE) even a Sims AA with DFAA active can be a nasty surprise to a CV. Like I said, sharing the captain with Worcester and SI is a must there. If I were to make a purely Atlanta captain, it would be BFT for the 10% reload buff (AA dps is useless, anyone sees my Atlanta and aircraft won't even stay in render range of me) or DE for the fire chance.

Don't forget the extra radar charge though.

No USS Alaska in update 0.7.12?

I don't think it would make much of a difference to other DDs though. Between the Missouris and the Kronstadts plus whatever regular ships with radar like Donskoy, Seattle, Buffalo, Chung Mu there won't exactly reigh a shortage of radar or so I would presume. Might aswell pick another DD like the Chung Mu for the nasty DWTs (plus she can always opt for Radar too), or the Kitakaze for raw gun dpm.

    Atlanta - advice needed

I share my captain with the Worcester so PT, AR, SI, CE, AFT, IFHE, PM on my build. If there's any problem OP might have it's just improving on the positioning, everything else looks solid. Atlanta is a ship whose performance mostly scales with positioning than anything else after all.
