The New Aircraft Carriers: How Best to Use Them? - Discussion Thread

I think WG is already overestimating their target audience's patience and willfullness to read such a large article. Should've made a video with Dasha prancing around to extend their attention span. Not too revealing clothes though, otherwise they won't pay attention to the informations in favour of her fuel tanks and torpedo bulges.- 134 replies

Unplanned Server Maintenance - 23/01 11:00 CET

Right now it's 12:25 CET, so is the maintenance already over or did you mean 11:00 pm/23:00 CET? -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aotearas replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Well, I know I'll be playing CVs after 0.8.0. Going to make life hell for everyone playing a surface ship for as long as CVs remain as broken as they are shaping up to be. Let's see how MM will look like after two weeks of that. -
Games you decided to play while the servers are wonky
Aotearas replied to BruceRKF's topic in Off-Topic
If only that game had a decent PC port. I bought the game, tried to play it but the PC version is a complete mess. Utterly fudged controls, game won't even run 1080p without modding it and another myriad of technical inconveniences just detracted from the playing experience (what I actually played thorugh was mostly amazing and I've fallen in love with the games soundtrack, but trying to get the game and controls to work is just urgh) ... I have subdued hopes (as in nearly nonexistent, but acknowledging the possibility of it) that the recently announced GOTY YoRHa edition PC version might just come with sorely needed improvements to the PC port. As for on-topic, I went back for another XCom:EW run. MECs are so hilariously OP! -
That's a bug alright, should be 1945mm to commemorate the glorious victory of Mother Russia against fascist invaders. And the plate is made of welded-together nametags of each unsung Hero of the Soviet Union that died during the Great Patriotic War. It's also why the Stalingrad was never finished, not enough people died. Cowards!

what if survival expert worked like dogfighting expert?
Aotearas replied to SkollUlfr's topic in General Discussion
Well, I'm seeing more and more BBs with SE skilled captains. Just today it was a NC. Gotta have that 2800 extra HP! Then again, I'm not fundamentally opposed to have the skill universally applicable across all classes, just needs to change the benefits based on class (they're going that way by making it an airplane HP buff for the new CVs in the rework already). Something like reduced citadel damage for cruisers instead of a flat HP buff, a reduction in fire/flooding damage per damage tick for BBs or something like that. I mean, it's funny how DD captain builds de facto have 2 captain skills that are must have's (Last Stand and Survivability Expert, the latter at least for everything that's going to actively contest anything), which also happen to be completely useless for basically every other surface ship in the game (though some people swear on LS on their french CAs, which is the only case where LS makes any sense whatsoever on a non-DD ship). The only other exception is CV skills, but CVs play fundamentally different anyway to the point where I wonder why WG doesn't make a specific skilltree just for CV captains ... it's not like someone is going to put his CV captain on a non-CV ship anytime soon anyway, right? -
Update 0.8.0 Is Postponed – Here's Why - Discussion Thread
Aotearas replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
No they don't learn, learn how the spotting mechanic works. Nonsense, the only really stealthy torpedoes are hightier deep-water torpedoes at tier IX and X. Though if you only ever start trying to evade torpedoes by the time you spot them yourself of course they're a threat. Use WASD. Texas OP? Prinz Eitel Friedrich OP? With the first two ships you'd have an argument, but the last two choices just show you're happy to blame just any ship ... PEF being OP, HAH! Beforehand we had repaircosts reflecting damage sustained, but potatoes used it as an excuse to run for the mapborders and never fight because they'd have to pay repaircosts if they ever get damaged. Servicecosts now are a fixed value to encourage people to use their ships HP in combat, not hide to save a couple credits. -
Why is this a thing now? Any particular reason why the previous system had to be changed? I like my port relatively uncluttered so I don't really need nor want a bigass division chat window block my screen just so I can see which ships division mates have selected. Previously that was easy, I just minimize the division chat (which I have essentially zero need for anyway as I use TeamSpeak with friends) and I could easily see my friends' ship selection in a neatly unobstrusive transparent UI element. Now there's this big grey slap of a chat window blocking a good portion of my screen (27" 1080p display if anyone needs to know, not exactly a miniscule monitor) and each time I want to browse through my ships, or change signal flags/camouflage, move captains or whatnot I have to move that window somewhere else because it blocks a part of the display. I'm not the biggest fan of the saying "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" because some changes even to working stuff ends up nice, but this? This looks like a change for change's sake with exactly ONE single superficial improvement (ready-up display and division chat are in one place, the usefulness or necessity is highly debatable) but at the cost of cluttering the port UI (which at the very least in my case is nothing but an unwelcome nuisance). If I want to move around blocks, I can play Tetris.

'Dororo' looks to be a very nice pick for this season. The animation quality for the first two episodes was abnormally good and even though it's not unusual for quality to drop on later episodes, if it starts that high it's typically a good sign.

People accusing CoOp bot opponents of cheating. I mean, on one hand they're technically correct ... on the other hand they're accusing CoOp bots of cheating. How horrible do you have to be at the game to get salty enough to call h4x on CoOp bots? Evidently horrible enough to not know they're fighting bots in the first place ostensibly, but sweet Jesus that's a low bar.

Stalingrad 60 Seconds Fire Duration
Aotearas replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
Sure it has, don't park it next to an island where you can't switch to kiting. And that still doesn't change that the Stalingrad is overperforming and can do with adjustment.- 97 replies

First of all, Wg never said they won't ever nerf premiums. They said they wouldn't like to, but there has never been an official "won't nerf premiums" policy. Secondly, this isn't a Stalingrad specific nerf, it's something that goes for all supercruiser premiums including the Alaska, Azuma and Kronshtadt. And it's the same thing as with other "nerfed" premiums, they didn't touch the ship specific characteristics at all, they changed a mechanic that happens to be shared with all supercruisers, i.e.: their fire duration. Just like they never directly nerfed the Gremyashchy or Blyskawica by removing stealthfiring, or the Belfast and Kutuzovwith the smoke mechanic changes. And every halfway competently compiled statistic I've seen about the Stalingrad (along with my own subjective opinion) says the ship is overperforming, so it could bloody well use some adjustment and you don't have to act as if the world were ending.
-
That ... was kinda the point? And please don't act as 15 more seconds fire duration would suddenly turn the Stalingrad into an underpowered deadweight.

Kaga, Enterprise, Saipan, Graf Zeppelin after the rework

I don't know if that clip was chosen intentionally, but it's fitting considering the next line of her in the movie was a sarcastic "if I only had a brain". -

I know right, the more unique and possibly intelligible a nickname is, the better the players tend to be. I mean, logically you could argue if they put a little more thought into coming up with a neat nickname, just imagine how much effort they would put into playing too. Same with clan names. Who cares about the "Death Murder Gods", it's the "Fluffy Bubblebutt Brigade" you have to watch out for. We've cracked the mystery boyz!!!

That's actually pretty damn nice. For once it's a couple more CB sessions (though unless my internet miraculously stops throwing a fit every evening I won't benefit much from it) and more time blowing off snowflakes (which I will benefit from, weeeee). Don't have too many expectations for WG to actually make meaningful changes to the CV/AA rework in just one week and the tidbits they've mentioned are hardly breathtaking (and I already disagree with patrol zones for surface ships not being displayed on the minimap, but whatever), but the benefits from the delayed patch are something nice to have.

I don't know, that Ranger's name is so meta I'd have half a mind of putting my credits on him. It's the Rommel1943 or DesertFox_Tiger guys that I never see doing anything worthwhile

Cursing like a sailor is also considered childish, but it increases your pain threshold, so doing it after stubbing your little toe on a chair might look like you're having an infantile tantrum, but it helps. Same with venting. Besides, I've already said that not everyone who does it has adequate reasons to blame teammates, or is even blaming the correct ones because he never paid enough attention for relevant context of why things went wrong, but even so the simple act of blowing off steam is a working coping mechanism. And I'd rather have people vent inappropriately than unload pent-up frustration some games later with a teamkill after surpassing their limit. All said and done, this is the answer you were asking for. Whether you like or agree with it is up to you, but it's the answer all the same.
-
Venting. It's a proven fact that venting one's frustrations helps. And regardless of whether he has proper reason to vent, or that is targets of choice are adequate or not, the process of venting helps. Same thing as cursing when being hurt.

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy
Aotearas replied to Loran_Battle's topic in Clan Recruitment
In that case I'd make that adamantly clear when talking to WG support (or PMing MrConway/Crysantos), because as per WG's own rules, you're supposed to get a warning for using prohibited/forbidden mods/software first and a ban only comes if that warning went ignored. Would be your best bet getting the ban overturned. Is it a perma-ban or a temporary suspension btw? Would also like to know if they said what you've been banned for (because once again, if they didn't tell you, how could you uninstall it to conform with their rules when you don't bloody know).- 3,079 replies
