[new AA mechanics] about the non-overlapping auras
Aotearas replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Pretty sure I've seen a couple threads specifically about AA destruction when the RN BBs came around and everyone and their dog was shooting HE at everything, stripping basically every ship of most of their AA and CVs having a field day with it. Conqueror+tier X CV divisions were popular for a while because one HE volley from the former could severely reduce even a Des Moines' AA. Besides, let's not forget that CV gameplay over the last couple years hasn't exactly been prevalent, so with meeting few CVs where one's destroyed AA would be an issue, of course the frequency of complaining about such will be proportionally low. That said, WG has stated they're buffing AA mount health, but who knows if that's enough to make a noticable difference over a full game's length. -
Come on, that thing is so unrealistic it's not even funny. I don't see a single torpedo-mount anywhere. Back to the drawing board with you!

... Maybe someone with a reasonable IQ would've said something about player skill when opening the topic, not matchmaking. Or elaborated in general instead of just dropping two screenshots. Like I've said earlier, I can't read your bloody mind. I can only read what you write and what you wrote was a smidget of gibberish about matchmaking. You hadn't even used the words "player" or "skill" once (not single time!) as opposed to writing about "matchmaking" multiple times. It's funny though how so many people pointed out the issue you were having was the playerbase, not the matchmaking. My, it's almost as if any gamer with a reasonable IQ saw the problem that you so thoroughly failed to put in writing. Now, care to try again and try to say what you actually want to say this time? Maybe with actual, coherent arguments and perhaps even a possible solution or two?

InB4 all of that nose is 50mm except maybe a 1m² spot on the very tip that's a nominal 32mm.

Uhm, no he didn't? OP wasn't doing much talking anyhow, just came here, posted two screenshots with little to nothing in the way of context except the titular MM rant. Didn't even mention steamrolls once. Lo and behold, people tell him the MM was adequate and whatever it is he's complaining about has nothing to do with it. I don't know if you're psychic to read OP's mind and know what he perhaps might've tried to communicate, but what he did actually write isn't what you purport it to be, not by a long shot. Writing "you know your matchmaking sucks bigtime" and posting two screenshots without any further explanation or argumentation isn't criticism, or at the very least nothing that could be remotely regarded as constructive criticism for anyone trying to argue semantics. It's a simple, unmeritorious rant and OP didn't even put much effort into making it coherent by those meager standards.

And that has NOTHING to do with MM in the screenshots. It's the players' fault if they can't do a damn thing, like for example a Midway that apparently had nothing better to do than let himself get farmed by the enemy Midway! The games weren't 12 Kawachis against 12 Yamatos, ffs.

I think @El2aZeR is on a First Blood record hunt with something 1:37 into the game until he killed off the first DD. Admittedly that was a bot and he was playing a Midway (so not necessarily representative of CV impact across all tiers), but considering how nasty HVARs are against DDs it doesn't make that much of a difference. Even if a lower tier CV only does a third of that damage in hte opening stages of the game, that DD is mission killed for the rest of the game as it doesn't have the HP to contest a cap. Even if an opposing DD has similarily been maimed be the other CV involved, with such low HP left just spotting one another mutually can be a death sentence if any nearby cruisers take their time to take shots at them. CV rework is going to hit DDs HARD. The radar (which are at the end simply a net bonus to radar) and flooding changes (which were necessary due to how easy new CVs can stack flooding DoT) on top of that are just additional drops in the overflowing barrel.

Looks like pretty balanced MM to me. Both teams get 2 radar cruisers, same radar characterstics, both team have largely equal DD capabilities and if anything I'd even give the enemy team an ever so slight edge for BBs due to Musashi overmatch capability which none of the other team's BBs have. I also see no achievement icons that could indicate unlucky RNG detonations on the losing team. This match wasn't decided by MM, it was decided by one team rolling over and dying. OP should ask for a more skilled playerbase, not different MM.

You're assuming DDs (or other torpedo armed surface ships for that matter) can continue to play like they currently do, roaming around relatively independently without being bugged 24/7 by CVs. That situation is obviously subject to change with the new CVs, have you seen what those rocket squadrons do to DDs, or how fast a CV can cycle attack runs on targets half across the map? CVs aren't going to spot torpedoes anymore, but they don't have to because they've been given a much better tool to simply do away with offending ships. And a dead ship isn't going to launch a lot of torps. Conversely, if DDs stick to other AA ships to not get rolled over by rocket squadrons, it makes torpedo attacks so much easier to anticipate and thus dodge because they are much less likely to come from unexpected angles. In short: CVs not spotting torps is a minor inconvenience more than offset by the fact they can straight up mission kill if not outright sink any DD in the opening minutes of a game or alternatively force DDs and other ships to position and play much more predictable (as in they will be where most of the team's AA is), making the supposed increase in torpedo hitrates a hilariously optimistic argument.

Free captain respec one week isn't enough
Aotearas replied to loppantorkel's topic in General Discussion
Imho there should be a free respec (for all classes, not just CV captains, naturally) with every update that changes CV/AA balance for the coming period. Optimally it could be a personal mission with each balance patch that after playing a single game, you get say a 24hr period of free captain respecs/upgrade demounting, so players not present on patchdays or arbitrary respec periods can use it just the same. -
A much appreciated change.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aotearas replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Wouldn't call my post a wall of text, but I suppose that's amatter of perspective. Flooding durations (and perhaps fire durations, though I personally don't think there'd be much need to distinguish those as plenty ships have consistent fire starting capabilities) would be necessary to balancing tests obviously. Personally I find my later edited in thought about a DCP rework to be more enticing as it opens much more vectors that can be used for balancing (different ships with different DCP cooldowns, different ship/class-specific DoT durations, DCP modification upgrade) and is as such much more flexible for finetuning. -
Cross Realm Matchmaking for Clan Battles and Other Changes

Not sure how I feel about this change. I'd prefer it if we got some maps that aren't full of islands everywhere. -

Flooding mechanic rework looks like it's geared to diminish the impact of reworked CVs sticking flooding DoT and just flooding out everything. All fine and dandy, but what about DDs? Compared to a reworked CV that can cycle multiple TB runs in the time it takes for a DD to reload its torpedoes once (and hit the target much more consistently when compared to statistical average torpedo hitrates from surface ships, which also means they have an easier time aiming to get the second flooding stick), I wouldn't be surprised to see flooding damage inflincted from surface ships to take a nosedive (nevermind DD efficacy in general now that CVs can just rape them with rocket squadrons unless the DD sticks close to a blob of AA ships, which means easy to anticipate and dodge torpedoes and thus even lower hitrates). Worst part is I don't even know how that could be properly counterbalanced. Increasing flooding chances on surface torps means little with reduced torpedo duration and halfway competent DCP management. Increasing torpedo alpha would bring its own slew of balancing problems along so that's a no. Imho the best way would be give shiplaunched torpedoes a longer flooding duration (fluff logic would be bigger torps, making bigger holes being harder to fix), but I'm doubtful the game can distinguish between airdropped and shiplaunched torpedoes. Any comments/clarifications on this by @Sub_Octavian, @MrConway, @Crysantos? The other way of balancing this would be a complete overhaul of the DCP mechanic. Say one DCP charge can only extinguish two fires and/or one flooding instead of everything. No complete immunity from all DoT once the magic button is pressed, but only partial recovery so they can't fix everything at once. Could also make the Damage Control Party modification more viable if it improves upon the DCP efficacy rather than just extend the current immunity action time. -
Give it to the Asashio.

Just wait until every hightier game comes with cyclones/thunderstorm/blizzards and RU BBs can sh*t all over non-RU BBs because they can engage them over 8km with their radar. -
Prepare for more and more weather effects to make it into hightier games so RU BBs are the only ones that can effectively engage their counterparts under those circumstances.

If you want you can ask @MrConway if you can transfer your Kaga & Enterprise to me and I'll transfer the appropriate amount of doubloons to you. The good ole switcheroo. Because I will maliciously abuse the CV rework and it'd be a real shame to let those unavailable premiums go to waste when you could get the doubloons AND I could get them flatboats.

The New Aircraft Carriers: How Best to Use Them? - Discussion Thread
Aotearas replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
So improving the UI would piss people off? Adjusting CV strike potential to reflect the tier would people off? Making proper tutorials so newcomers aren't tossed blind into CV gameplay would piss people off? Removing manual attacks from tier IV and V CVs despite still matching tier V vs tier VI (who not only have better aircraft but can also manual attack) in double CV games didn't piss people off? Cute ... -
