    Side bars vs "reality"

That. It's typically easy to see how this works if you spawned on one end of the map, then later in the game transition to another flank and as soon you get within rendering range your ships instantly go from full HP to their current HP as if they've just received a big hit.

    Naming Ships

I for one can do without playing in a match full of "USS MuhDick", "IJN YoMama" and whatever else some attention-depraved internet trolls might name their ships.

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy

And? Just because this is the only thread you do it in doesn't mean it's any less distracting in here. Also I'm not asking you to stop posting pictures, I'm just asking you to politely put them into spoiler tags so scrolling through the page isn't 90% images. I'd like to be able to see if people are posting something important without having to filter through loads of pictures.

    Anime

It's either going to be pretty damn good (compare: Edge of Tomorrow), or it's going to be utter shite (see: Ghost in the Shell). With live-action adaptations of anime/manga source material I haven't yet heard of anything that didn't fall in one of the two extremes.

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy

If you guys absolutely must put several pictures into one comment, please at least put them in spoiler tags. It's nice for you guys that you enjoy MLP, but I don't really want to scroll past dozens of MLP pictures/gifs just to see the odd single line of text here and there when looking through new comments.
  6. I'm still seeing plenty threads criticizing the CV rework and/or aspects of it so I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe a couple unsubstantiated whines get deleted, but that's hardly uncommon and neither something that's inherent to the CV rework, we get these kinds of worthless rants about basically every major change plus the weekly HE OP, DD OP, why don't overpens cause floodings, etc. pp. threads that no one really misses anyway.
  7. Let's see what they mess up with the next hotfix. Because I fully expect that rushing to fix a rushed fix isn't exactly going much better than last time.
  8. Same here. Never bothered getting the Jean Bart because I find the ship to be rather uninteresting, now I'm sitting on lots of coal waiting for Azuma Mk2.

70 air kills in a Repu...without AA build

Spectated after being killed and yes, airplanes go basically straight up after dropping, all within the close range AA sector. Anything with a respectable number of short range autocannons WILL shoot down aircraft that auto-return after a drop. The example in question was a Haku dropping a Hindenburg (no DFAA active since I didn't see red flak bursts) and a full flight of three DBs on autoreturn all got shot down before reaching safety altitude ... and Hindenburg doesn't even have that good close range AA. Compare that to something like a battleship with its tons of close range autocannons and it's basically impossible to drop on BBs without losing your entire attack squadron to shortrange continuous dps after dropping.
  10. Well, WG could've waited with the CV rework release until a bit later after doing more internal/PTS testing on AA values and spare themselves the pressure trying to hotfix something in a hurry they knew was going to be a problem. It's not like many people predicted something like this to happen ... feels a bit hollow now but still: "we told you so".

70 air kills in a Repu...without AA build

The problem with how AA is now after the hotfix you can write off the vast majority of your squadron if you attack more than once. You should try it out on the tier VI and VIII CVs, because the tier AA has obviously been balanced with tier X CVs in mind but little to no thought about the other CVs and as such AA just completely obliberates the lower tier CV squadrons. As I said in another thread, an Atago (weakest AA of any tier VIII cruisers) completely annihilated my Ranger squadrons. Most of the squadron died before I could finish my first attack run. That's why airplane preservation tactics are being discussed because if you don't, you're virtually deplaned after three attack runs and that against ships that don't even have any good AA. It's less of a tier X CV problem, but even there the AA coupled with the stupid straightlining autopilot means you lose the majority of aircraft at the very latest after they dropped and are trying to break off. Personally I'd guess it's because they try to go vertically up to reach save altitude, but instead just spend several seconds in the innermost AA sector which has the most continuous dps.

70 air kills in a Repu...without AA build

So, did you only ever attack with a single flight having sent the remainder of each squadron home before dropping on your target? Because otherwise I don't see how that screenshot would be relevant, because that's precisely what I'm discussing with BLUB__BLUB in regards to aircraft survivability.

Haku is 8km for stealthtorp TBs, 6km for the others (can't stealthtorp as plane detectability is 6,1 with full stealth build on Haku). Shokaku is 5km, Ryuujou is 4km. Midway is 4km, Lexington is 3,5km, Ranger is 3km. US CVs however basically require the Torpedo Acceleration perk due to slow torps, so you can substract 20% range for each.
  14. As for the recent freemium ship acquisition requirements. Happy to see another free XP ship (even if the currently designed tier IX Azuma is pretty eh) and the tier X variant going for coal instead of steel. Kind of hesitant about the russian DD at tier IX being steel. The ship didn't strike me as particularily strong, but if they make it into a steel ship I can't even begin to image how insane some of the characteristics are going to be to make up for stuff like only having two turrets and what was assumed to be the typical RU torps ... save to assume she's NOT going to get normal RU torps as we know them from the game. I'm good in the FXP department Oh oh, is it a free XP whale contest? I'm in:

That's actually a maximum of 22k DB alpha (penetrations only do .33 max damage and you're not going to citadel anything with these to get max damage) assuming all six bombs land on unsaturated modules. Also, you WILL lose DBs prior to dropping the load to continuous AA dps, so assuming only one DB gets shot down and all 4 remaining bombs hitting we're at 15k alpha. Considering we're argueing on the assumption that all attack flights except the last set are sent home prematurely without attacking to preserve maximum amount of airplanes, no other DB will replace the ones shot down during the attack run. The hardest any DB can hit would by the Hakuryuu AP DBs with a potential max alpha of 25k if all three bombs hit and citadel but again, you're going to lose DBs on the attack run due to continuous dps and with only 2 AP bombs hitting and citadeling we're at 17k alpha. But AP bombs are a fickle balancing aspect on its own as the community has established the moment they got introduced into the game a long time ago already. As for the other TB characteristics ... Hakuryuu alternative TBs: Midway TBs: Shokaku TBs: Lexington TBs: Ryuujou TBs: Ranger TBs:

Now apply torpedo belt and allow for the realistic situation that you're not going to hit every single 40kn torpedo launched from 1,2km and that alpha drops quite sharply. Also again, Hakuryuu problem. Feel free to saracastically post the TB characteristics of the other CVs' ... Ah, that's what you meant. Though I have to wonder how we started talking about average XP now.
  18. Just an idea, but perhaps take your time with the next tweak so it actually fixes stuff without introducing another unintended inconsistency. The recent hotfix just reeks of being rushed with little plan nor testing just to calm the hype that was OBVIOUSLY going to happen when you introduce an as of yet unbalanced shipclass into the live servers. Also, someone lock the tool closet in the balancing department, just to make sure they don't apply the hammer again. Can't be very good for those poor keyboards.

70 air kills in a Repu...without AA build

... no CV has the alpha to 40k damage with a single attack flight. I obviously meant that number for average damage PER MATCH, because that's what you're going to end up with if every attack run you do results in ~8k damage since you only attack once and send the other flights back home without attacking something. Are you trying not to understand what I'm saying here? Or do you believe the anti-CV hype so hard that you still think they can just murder everything in one pass?
  20. Doesn't change the fact that tier VI CVs can still meet both ships ... Right now after the hotfix there's basically no reason to play the tier VI CVs. As soon as you get uptired into a tier VIII game your airplanes are useless. Even if you get a drop off, the returning airplanes are all shot down before making it to immunity altitude. Just had a game in my Ranger where an Atago of all things annihilated my aircraft. Let me repeat that for emphasis, an Atago ... the probably worst tier VIII cruiser in the game when it comes to AA. Until the next hotfix rolls around I'll just play the tier X CVs only.
  21. Apparently AA performance no also depends on tiering, with a MASSIVE jump in performance from tier VII to VIII as you can also see in the Scharnhorst/Bismarck case, let me just quote myself from another thread on this matter: Wouldn't mind getting an answer to the question originally stated in my comment @Sub_Octavian, @MrConway.

Only 2 torps on Shokaku ?

If you're looking at high AA targets, just drop the first two runs into the water somewhere it won't bother anyone and have them return savely back to the CV and only attempt a more realistic double attack run. Same amount of effective damage, half the losses and you can take off with the next wave sooner too since they will have arrived back at your CV probably before you completed the second attack run. Also recommended to minimize casualties when dropping on CVs as you're struggle to even get a second attack run in due to their CAP.

70 air kills in a Repu...without AA build

If people want to "exploit" a save auto-return after dropping to the extend of giving up 66-75% of their drop potential by all means, let them do it. Alpha damage on the new CVs is ridiculously low (Midway torps do 5k a pop before torpedobelt damage reduction, I regularily get 2-3k damage per torp on DDs ffs) and unless the target is cooperatively straightlining for you during the entire attack run you won't even land a majority of your ordnance to make for lacking alpha with hitnumbers on a single attack run. Everyone's going to be real scared of tier X CVs with 40k average damage ... There is literally ONE TB option that can do that, the Hakuryuu 8km TBs. Every other TB option only has around 4km range and you will NOT be able to just drop your ordnance savely outside AA range with only one "risk load" and have the preemptively dropped torps still be a threat because they don't have the bloody range to hit a ship from outside their AA. Especially if you want to drop your "risk load" to at least arm before hitting the target you have to start the attack run even way before the maxrange AA in order to have sufficient range to your target to take the attack cooldown and preparation phase of the drop into account. Even Shokaku 5km TBs won't be able to physically connect two drops unless you have a ship steaming full speed directly into the direction those torps are coming from and even then the maximum amount of torps you could land in such a scenario would be 2, one per drop on the nose each, rest would sail past the sides of the ship. This isn't an issue with non-Haku TBs and won't be. If everyone could for one second remember that the CV rework isn't just about the Hakuryuu, that'd be a real help to get some constructive feedback going.

70 air kills in a Repu...without AA build

That is currently the method I use whenever dropping on something expecting high attrition, dump the first couple attacks in the water so I'll at least get those aircraft back as I wouldn't be able to make a third or more attack runs under the current AA anyway against most higher tier ships. Even so, the problem was the near instant damage immunity the moment someone used F to recall the entire squadron and that would keep the nerfed bailout immunity. Dropping bombs early isn't an exploit as you lose the strike potential as opposed to the previous going in with the entire squadron and only bailing once it got a bit too hot as you kept your entire strike potential all the way until you decided to go F.
  25. Aotearas

70 air kills in a Repu...without AA build

Precisely that. The way how flak bursts spawn combined with the single-minded autopilot on returning airplanes is simply a recipe for inevitable aircraft losses. Giving aircraft that dropped their load the pre-nerf bailout immunity but keeping the nerfed bailout for squadrons recalled by F without dropping their ordnance would seem a workable compromise that could be expanded upon. But the current solution just results in the CV being railroaded into heavy aircraft losses without a possible counterplay aside and is especially penalizing to uptiered CVs, something that is only compounded by the fact that removing the uneven CVs makes uptiered CVs more frequent. The insane AA performance jump from tier VII to tier VIII that came with the hotfix makes this only worse. If you're a tier VI CV your only hope is having enough tier VI/VII AA ships you may prioritize to attack if at all possible, because against hotfixed tier VIII AA you can just kiss your airplanes goodbye. Meanwhile a tier VIII CV can just sh*t all over tier VI and VII ships even harder as even catching a couple flak bursts isn't nearly as hard on your squadron as it was before.
