impact bad CV player versus good CV player changed?
Aotearas replied to RamboCras's topic in General Discussion
Not all cruisers are created equal and have amazing AA. Fewer of those have the concealment it would take to stay close to a DD near a cap without getting spotted and shot out of the water before they have much chance to provide effective AA protection. Nevermind that AA ranges have been universally shortened and long range AA in particular doesn't have the dps for effective area denial and that flak bursts can be dodged, all of which means that you either need an awful lot of cruisers sitting next to the cap to provide sufficient flak density to make dodging that unfeasable, or you need that cruiser to cover you with his midrange AA, i.e. being closer than 3,5km ... Ah yes, the dreaded on-summon fighters patrolling a miniscule area that take so long to aggro attack aircraft you can just fly straight into the patrol area, attack the DD, fly out of the patrol area without a care in the world. What's that? The fighters actually engage your squadron on your second pass through the patrol area? Just boost away for a while until the fighters give up the chase without ever shooting down a single aircraft in your squadron, then turn back and attack again. Oh, and the 60 seconds patrol duration will be over by that point anyway. Fighters? What fighters. And all that is assuming the ship is actually staying inside that tiny patrol area, which isn't exactly easy to do even if you wanted to because WG in their infinite wisdom removed the minimap circle overlay telling you where the patrol area is because "it's easy enough to see if you just look up and see where the fighters are" like you've got nothing else to pay attention to when you're spotted in a DD near a cap ... And let's not forget the opposing CV can always simply counterdrop his own fighters to neutralize yours and keep attacking without having to bother with your precious support. That's awfully optimistic. A good chunk of the time they are morons, doing idiotic things and end up being nothing but cooperative targets to the enemy team. Also I have to ask where you draw the confidence from to patronize other players when you're struggling to be a positive influence for the teams you're on. -
So, five episodes into this now and I can only reaffirm my initial impression. This show is comedy gold. Absolutely hilarious! Must-see of the season!!! Also the bringer of this epic eyegasm animation: Why they only used it for episode #3 so far I've got no idea because the production of that ending with rotoscoping must've cost more than the entire episode. Plus it's so bloody good and simply addictive I put into my Youtube favourites and watch it regularily anyway ... The opening sequence is also one of the few good ones that I don't skip after watching it once.

You know, a DD with catapult fighters in the current CV/AA meta ... -
I am honoured to have participated in the making of your signature (that question was one of mine). To be fair for the Q&A guys though, the person selecting the question did a good job not backing down and getting the gist of the question across to the point we got a somewhat acceptable answer in the way that they're looking at potentionally tweaking the auto-bail for aircraft that have dropped their ordnance as opposed to recalling the entire squadron via F. But yeah, the initial "answer" to the question was profoundly non-committal. Then again, it's hard to properly nuance a question if you only got 200 characters to try and squeeze an even remotely complex question into. Reason why I hardly bother with such Twitch Q&As, but at that time I was bored and gave it a shot anyway, got lucky to have two questions picked out.

I couldn't help but notice that some missions in campaigns are still limited to tier IX and X CVs, despite the obvious fact that tier IX CVs no longer exist in the game for the time being, de facto limitating the completion criteria for such missions to tier X CVs only. Has WG mentioned anything about this somewhere, or did those limitations manage to sneak by their notice? Conversely, has WG perhaps thought of allowing tier VIII CVs to count for such missions in lieu of their absent tier IX brethren? Le poke @MrConway, @Crysantos

That part probably accounts for most of your XP. If aircraft kills are rewarded, then they've lowered the values even more than it already was prior to the rework because some of the XP results on games where I shot down loads and loads of aircraft would otherwise make no bloody sense at all. -

Funny, because the reaction of the WG staff in the Q&A upon my question about aircraft kills not being rewarded was quite distinctively "what the hell are you talking about" ... -
Neptune AA two long range auras?
Aotearas replied to Captain_KriegWurst's topic in General Discussion
Check the sector range for both auras. If they are active at shared ranges then both will apply their respective dps simultanously -
That ... is kinda a rather big oversight. That means the only way to get those flags is from containers (no idea how frequently they drop), campaign mission rewards (one time only per mission) and whenever WG deigns to make them a reward for ingame missions/events. I'm lucky that I'm sitting at over a thousand of those flags as I've very rarely used them before (panik effect was always sufficient and 5% dps didn't make much difference imo, plus you barely ever met CVs), but now that dps is everything those flags are a good deal more useful. Well, WG is testing offering combat signal flags in the Arsenal on PTS, but I don't know if the AA flag is included. Maybe @MrConway or @Crysantos can have a short look into WG's plans regarding this.
-
You know what the best part about the UI improvements on PTS are? They just slowed down the transitioning so it doesn't look like the UI is freezing/stuttering, but it takes just as long to do anything.

152 mm gun penetration value, is it wrong ?
Aotearas replied to Bazelder's topic in General Discussion
The number shown in the detailed ship characteristics is the thickness of plating you can damage with HE (it's basically just doing the -1 substraction from the HE penetration for effective HE pen). Not sure what happened with showing 31.20 after taking IFHE as HE pen doesn't deal with decimal numbers anyway (only full numbers, rounded) so I would assume it's just another UI bug to add to the lists. -
Naw, tier VIII-X wouldn't require changing. Pretty sure he just meant the tier IX-X missions getting changed to tier X only rather than allowing tier VIII.
-
The problem is the missions were originally not meant to be tier X ship exclusive. But with the removal of tier IX CVs, they de facto are now. It's an accessebility concern. Not a big one, but it's a concern nontheless. I just checked and the Halsey campaign was the wrong example; it's the second (CV centric) stage on the Yamamoto campaign. Three missions only accessible to tier IX and X CVs only. There's more missions but as you said those also allow for another ship class (which the player might not have however). Also, the Carrier Commander I emblem is now de fact the same as the final stage of the emblem, except it wants a bit less average damage. I just figured it would be a trivial thing to allow tier VIII CVs to participate for those missions so some content isn't locked behind the tier X when it wasn't originally designed to be that case. Plus iirc it takes longer to grind up CVs now that you essentially have to grind through two tiers worth of XP to get to the next CV in the line (can't exactly check how much since I already had all of them, but I do recall having read something to that effect). Again just to emphasize, it's not a pressing issue. It's just something that struck me as being an easily corrigible oversight so I wanted to draw some attention to it.
