Okey seriously im pink after 1 accident
Aotearas replied to Shizzlesticksz's topic in General Discussion
To put a bit of perspective in here: before the recent change, getting pink pretty much required a person to cause a metric crapton of teamdamage and several deliberate griefers killing their teammates wouldn't turn pink unless they were unrepentent serial killers. As such, the common "pinkie" is stilled viewed upon as, let me put this succinctly: the biological avater of the degenerate mess that is all things bad in videogames. It will take some time for players to adjust to the fact that being pink does no longer mean they were basically running rampant killing teammates left and right and given time, reactions will mellow out (on average at least). I do wholeheartedly agree with the recent change as it was much needed to cull the numbers of ingame griefers or at least get the message across that it's not stuff to be easily ignored. Of course there are a couple tweaks that are needed, such as secondaries causing teamdamage that can't be avoided since players have no control over what and how they are shooting at (other than disabling it, which however also turns off your AA ...). I set a division mate on fire with my secondaries, causing not insignificant damage since his DC was on cooldown at the time, entirely out of my control and as such shouldn't count towards the teamdamage detection. -

Anyone wants me to do things for them to get diamonds, they better put them diamonds on a ring and propose to me. Then we can marry, get divorced and I get half their available diamond pool with me, not just a meager 100. -
Torpedo soup - why it exist and what can be done
Aotearas replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
Jingles is a case of "do as I say, not as I do". I mean ... "that looks like an Aoba to me" isn't borderline memetic for no reason. He makes mistakes, but his typical advice is genuinely correct, unless he's stuck on outdated informations (like the insistent caveat that using the DD engine boost penalizes your detectability, which was a thing but got removed). He's competent. Not outstanding by any means, but competent. And he's well aware of that and keeps his videos to a mostly comedic content. I wouldn't exactly point at Jingles when recommending Youtube advice, but he's got the right ideas mostly. Anyhow, this isn't about Jingles. This is about people who apparently belief that the range of a BB is the defining quality of the class, which is plain wrong.- 165 replies

Just came across the worst MM bet nobody can better it

If old replays qualify, does that mean we can also get the downvote feature back? -
Not liking fail-/trolldivisioning at all. Even if it's clearly for shits'n'giggles like t3 or t4 DDs together with an Umikaze (which is actually a sound strategy as the Umikaze can scout ahead with its insanely low detectability), but there's always the salty players who go full "retard division reported" and you can't explain them that it doesn't matter because they won't listen regardless of what you say or how good you perform. And then there's the genuine faildivisioning, like a Kolberg teaming up with a New Orleans and then ending up in t10 max game (yup, totally have seen that), where you objectively sabotage your team by bringing a useless ship with you. The Umikaze in low tier divisions at least has some tactical benefit, but suffers from the stigma. Personally, I wouldn't mind it at all if divisions were limited to same tier ships only. Might actually be for the best.

Something odd about Grand Naval Battles weekly missions
Aotearas replied to WinningSpike010's topic in General Discussion
No, they are still different missions each week. But they feed from the same stat tracking database, so if you got 2750 base XP to complete the 2500 XP mission in week 1, it will also check out the week 2 mission. If you got less than the required 2500 base XP, the week 1 mission is done and you didn't get the reward diamonds, but the same amount of XP will still show up for the week 2 2750 XP mission since it was your best to-date result. This is done deliberately to allow people who may not be able to play every week to still complete the missions if they passed the requirements earlier already. Here, straight from WG staff: -

I frickin' LOVE the New Mexico. Put her out for a spin today together with fun6utzi and Kostis_Larsson. Ended up in a High Caliber, Confederate and Kraken Unleashed as the cherry on top. I also love broadsiding toptier BB enemies -

Torpedo soup - why it exist and what can be done
Aotearas replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
Actually, no. A BB's job is to dish out damage. That and only that. Everything else is just a platform to deliver said damage. And a BB's best protection is to kill the enemy. What's dead can't shoot at you. Heavy armour and big healthpool means little when you face high caliber HE shells, DB bombs, fires, torpedoes (either long range DD or airdropped ones) and enemy BBs. Range is ineffective as protection because the enemies' BBs have the same range, most cruisers can get into firing range without getting spotted earlier (and are typically faster than BBs, so if they want to stay in firing range, they will) and CVs just laugh at the concept of firing ranges. Plus you got DDs that will simply sneak up on you undetected. No, staying at range accomplishes only one thing: poor hitrates. And that translates into poor damage output, which in turn just means the enemy you're shooting at stays alive for longer, time they will spend shooting either you or your teammates. Far too often have I seen BBs sniping lonely from the back, doing pityful damage and once their teammates were overwhelmed by the enemy the BBs are all alone against the enemy team. I'm not telling you to start charging every enemy you see. Optimal course and engagement distances are dictated by ever changing circumstance, so there's no end-all-be-all playstyle people should do, but simple gameplay logic states that the closer you get to the enemy, the less reaction time they have to evade, the less dispersion you suffer and consequently the more damage you deal to them. And you have to juggle that simple gameplay logic with your survivability. Lots of armour and HP isn't there to look pretty on paper, it's to allow a BB player to get as close as feasible and apply the former logic whilst staying alive doing so.- 165 replies

You can always exchange diamonds for the 72hr premium unlock -
The problem isn't HE damage, the problem is fire damage. HE has already been nerfed to hell and beyond. Shooting cruiser ~150 caliber HE shells at BBs and you can consider yourself lucky to get 2k salvo in. More often than not, you get pityful damage salvos or if it's a well armoured ship, even hits to the superstructure can yield zero damage volleys (and even if that isn't the case, as soon as the meager HP for the superstructure is done, you get reduced damage anyway and ultimately no damage at all). I can sit in a BB and take HE spam all damn day. It's the fires that hurt. One fire, no biggie, a single Repair and almost all the HP lost from a single fire is back. Two fires, possibly use DC. Three or more fires, DEFINATELY use DC. So far, hardly any damage done, including the HE its. But the next fires whilst DC and Repair are on cooldown, THOSE will hurt you a good chunk of your HP. Now, if you'd ask me if fires should be nerfed somewhat, I would have troubles giving you my opinion, mostly due to the inconsistent nature of fire chance. Possibly making fires more consistent (and likely) when firing HE whilst slightly reducing fire DoT and duration would be a good tweak for both sides. Sometimes you take just a few fires over a game and can migitate the damage almost entirely ... and then there's games when every second salvo sets you on fire and you just get burned nice and crispy.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Aotearas replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Deckeru_Maiku had the misfortune of running into our division (me (Kamikaze R) fun6utzi (Murmansk) and Kostis_Larsson (Kamikaze R)) in his Minekaze. Naturally, after the mandatory greeting we hunted him down, though one of his torpedo spreads got awfully close -

Thanks for the clarification. The way the seperate week missions are handled is actually really convenient so thanks for that! -

Interesting. According to my GNB stat tracking I already completed all the week #2 missions and I haven't even played a single game today. -
I'd like to, but sadly google isn't a German company.

Which still doesn't change the fact that even with less XP and credits, bad players will inevitably reach higher tiers. Plenty have already, plenty will in the future. So discrimination by grind is utterly ineffective if your target is more competent players in the higher tiers and likewise means you have to wait for the competent ones just the same, only an arbitrarily shorter amount of time.
-
Grinding has never barred the progress of tenacious losers. People can, will and already have died their way up to t10. This holds especially true considering the game is already out for a good while, so people had plenty of time sucking up the tiers. On the other hand, inflating the grind also effects those players who actually do play competently, people you arguably WANT to progress so the chances increase for such competent palyers to be on your team rather than whichever potato started sabotaging his teams ever since august last year. Grinding only effectively discriminates against poor players in the beginning stages of a game's release when the early competent players advance at a considerably faster rate outpacing that of the bad ones. At this point however, it discriminates everyone equally, good and bad players alike.

Precision manouvreing and exploiting natural terrain features to minimize exposure to hostile elements, balancing out the necessites of applied firepower to maximize combat efficiency! -
Same thoughts here. The lower detectability range is the biggest buff and personally the only thing I really dislike on the Pensacola. I don't mind the armour being thin, I can always shake dat [edited]and thus avoid most hits in the first place, but the detectability really screws the Pensacola over. As for the increased armour, we'd have to wait and see how big the citadel on the Indianapolis is. A sufficiently angled Pensacola is surprisingly tough in a cruiser vs cruiser fight and even an uparmoured version will still be unable to resist BB AP shells from straight up punching through, Though it might make the ship even better in a cruiser vs cruiser fight. Ultimately however I'm not too happy about the trend I'm seeing, first with the Texas and now this. Because if these specs don't change significantly and it's indeed going to be tier 7, then it's simply an upgrade over the Pensacola. That would be as p2w as it gets, same with the Texas.

Weather. Massive BB buff or is it just me?
Aotearas replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
Rader is t8+ only though. You can get into cyclone games without any ship having radar easily. And the only ship that will benefit from radar is the cruiser alone, because other ships can't provide support fire because the spotted DD won't render for them if they are outside the 8km range. They see them on the minimap, well within firing range, but they can't see them when they're trying to aim and the aim will not lock onto anything. That's the big issue. Being detected later or getting ambushed is no biggie. But not being able to shoot at spotted targets outside the magical 8km is broken.
