#GrandNavalBattles Grand Naval Battles event thread (post your stuff here! instead of openening multiple threads)
Aotearas replied to havaduck's topic in General Discussion
Ubisoft? Konami? Square Enix? Those three easily eclipse EA in terms of fuckery with their customers. Ubisoft is EASILY winning the greed duel with EA, with them pumping out gameyfied bug collections rather than games with some bugs on a yearly basis just to milk their big franchises, Konami is just collectively drugging themselves out and Square Enix has a loooooong history of trying to get crap past their audience to squeeze bucks out of them (DX:HR Director's Cut, the DX:MD pre-order shenanigans and the myriad of bloody LAZY ports and basically getting modders to do their after-sale support for them). At this point, EA is arguably one of the lesser evils in the gaming industry provided you as the custumer do same basic research before blindly buying something on marketing hype. Because after all things said and done, EA isn't flat-out LYING nearly as frequently and outragously as the above shamed three companies. And I'm saying that as a gamer who's got plenty of grudge with EA ... (Westwood, Origin (as in the old developer, not the platform), Pandemic ... ). -
Ahhh... it had to happen...

Well, griefing is a bannable offense in every multiplayer game I've played so far. IF WG actually looks at support tickets of this sort, this guy should at the very least get a time-out. If he's a repeat offender, he ought to bet a permanent ban. At least that's how it SHOULD work. -
Do Fighters still have the magic ability?
Aotearas replied to JohnHusky's topic in General Discussion
You talking about the fighter barrage? Magic??? -
I prefer shooting at smaller targets. 1260 overpen damage is a lot consistent than shooting HE at say DDs, thanks to the damage saturation mechanic. As for the alleged overpens-only thing in BBs, I do think that's just confirmation bias. The bad results simply stick out more.

Has nothing to do with the credit rewards that I'm pointing at. I'm well aware of the costs.

Yet the soviet hammer and sickle flag is actually illegal in some countries ... countries in which Wargaming games including WoWs are commercially available. But the distinctively NOT illegal german flag is somehow a taboo that shan't be displayed, because raisins. It unrefutably is a double-standard that WG is playing here and the reasons they give for it are just as hilariously stupid (as in incorrect, they said the flag is not ingame because it's forbidden in some places, it's not!).

When will those high tier economy changes come? Because I just had the most ludicrously idiotic match result in terms of credits earned that I've seen so far: That's almost 90k damage, which I consider a solid (not quite good but rocksolid!), 1395 base XP (again, solid) and I got the dreadnought award (so yeah, I did take some damage). All that netted me 141k credits, yet I pay 146k and make a loss ... in a solid t8 game. And as a neat follow-up: How the hell do I get 52k credits for less than 10k damage, but only 141k for ~90k damage? I know it's percentage based but even so I hardly put a dent in the Kagero and Roon and did a lot more damage in health percentage in the previous game, yet the credit gain doesn't scale. 52k credits for 10k damage vs 141k credits for 90k damage. What gives??? Does shooting at lower tier ships give you THAT much less credits so shooting up the Nagato, Cleveland etc. doesn't give me credits or what? And here another example: Only 31k damage, yet I get 139k credits. Dafuq is up with that credit reward curve? It really seems like shooting the lower tier ships in the original match penalized me harshly in terms of inferiour credit reward, despite me doing better in the game overall. Seriously, what the hell?

Me and havaduck just met 72percent in his North Carolina. Game was going well but then he put two citadels straight up my arse. I was a bit miffed at that, but I burned him back for 20k fire damage and we won, so things are even. -

I prefer 'SFS Gröfaz' tbh ... -
Maybe with the recent changes to the Mogami, they should switch it back As for the cpatiain skill questions, are you talking about the Pensacola or the Myoukou? If Pensacola: EM all the way (for any cruiser really and ESPECIALLY for the Pensacola, you want to shake dat arse, but you also want to use those amazing guns, ergo better turret traverse). Incoming fire alert is a skill that can be trivialized by being attentive and shaking dat arse not unlike you'd drive snakelines in a BB to throw off torpedo aim for DDs. Just keep chaning course and speed frequently and anything that is shooting you from long range wwill have an incredibly hard time hitting you even if you aren't aware of them specifically targeting you. As for the 4th tier skill, it's a question on whether you want to maximize the strenght of your powerful AA (AFT), or compensate for the lower fire-chance compared with the IJN cruisers (DE). I personally ran it with an AA set-up (AA mod 2 and AFT) and it served me, or more importantly my divisionmates and random teammates, well against CVs and I never felt like I was lacking in HE spewin' ... though the latter might be because I don't have any high tier IJN cruisers to compare.

Oh, I dunno, it's not like the term "Großdeutschland" doesn't have a rich history well prior to the Nazis ... seriously people, if you want to argue about history, it helps if you read a history book beforehand! You said it yourself: -

Maybe try the game and see if you like it BEFORE throwing money at it by buying several high tier premium ships and enough free XP to get the Fusou with just a few games played in the Kawachi (nonchalontly skipping the ships that are there to teach you how to play the ship classes)? Bad teams are one thing, but a bad team AND a newbie out of his depth is a combination that will inevitably end in frustration as is evident. -
So you resurrected your three months old rant just to prove you haven't yet learned how to plan and exploit positioning ... Pensacola is a good ship. The guns are amazing and will tear other cruisers apart with AP and the HE is very potent against BB superstructure. The armor is good enough to defend against cruiser guns and can actually bounce a ridiculous number of AP rounds if angled agressively and since the Pensacola's frailty is rather infamous, most people WILL shoot AP at you and keep shooting AP. I've bounced several of two cruisers' worth of AP salvoes being bow-on to them. To emphasize that, the squishy Pensacola bounced the hell out of several AP salvoes from TWO cruisers, as in zero damage and fcks given! I citadeled one of them to kingdom come because he didn't believe in angling and the other one had to eventually turn away because I had backup coming my way. The armour won't work against BBs, but that's nothing new for a cruiser! The only genuinely bad thing about the Pensacola is the ridiculous detectability. If you sail around in the open, you WILL be spotted and a Pensacola WILL be shot at. The (should be) obvious remedy to that is, and here we come full circle with the initial statement about positioning, don't sail in the open! Ocean map isn't that frequent and on any other map, you have no excuse for not exploiting islands as both visual and actual cover to sneak up on enemies and keep it between you and enemies you don't want to fight. I regret selling the Pensacola, but I needed the money for the New Orleans. If I had tons of credits and port slots to spare, I'd buy back the Pensacola in a heartbeat. You realize you already posted this in the thread, right?

Except the 'Deutschland' existed, hence could be lost and the H-class proposals didn't. Trying to assume parallels between the two is nonsensical and irrelevant, because H-39 and H-41 have no history outside the drawing boards. And if one wanted to spin the whole historic debate further and stay within the realms of realism, then people would know the H-class ships would've only been commissioned well after WW2 ended in a German victory (since Germany didn't have the ressources nor the facilities to build those behemoths during wartime and wouldn't be allowed to build them after a defeat even if they had the ressources and facilities by some strange miracle!) and as such would be prestige objects and naming them 'Großdeutschland' would not be out of the question at all. Ergo, this whole debate is mostly going in circles of half-knowledge, speculation and wild what-if scenarios, when the simple answer is: the name is decided and if people still want to be vocal about the name, just settle for the bloody project designation instead of flinging about names for whichever inaccurate reasons. -

Aotearas replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
If people take issues with the name, they should either read a history book and reflect on exactly what basis they have problems with it, or realize it's a game and the ship might just the same be called the 'GröFAZ-Kanu' ... -

You haven't been playing many MP games, have you? This wouldn't stop hackusations. People are constantly whining about damage hacks, (willingly) ignorant of the fact tht damage calculations are done serverside and thus can't be cheated with. When told such, they either just ignore that aswell, or claim it to be a lie. N00bs will always find a reason to accuse people of cheating. And if there is no reason, who cares, accuse them anyway. -
A little heads-up for all the captains out there, the patch 0.5.6 is resetting some option settings back to default. The collision avoidance assist for example was reenabled without any input of mine. That's the only thing I noticed (My New Orleans was turning without me having touched my rudder!) so far and I haven't bothered to look through my other settings for now (mostly because I don't know exactly what settings I was running the whole time, I changed them and never touched them again, so I forgot ), but if there's any other settings that are being changed by the patch, please tell!

The layout is terrible. The actual displayed stats are more comprehensive which is a huge improvement, but the presentation is just urgh in my opinion.

Undocumented changes are a big no-no. No wonder people are paranoid about nerfs, buffs or perceived bugs when WG does an abysmal job at documenting game changes (or really most of the game mechanics that people would have no clue about unless they frequent the forum). WG really needs to work on their communication strategy because it sucks balls as it stands and it's NOT doing them any favours, so it's really in their best interest too! As for the actual changes, I haven't done the math but from first look it appears that the Concealment Expert skill no longer applies to the detection debuff when firing your guns. Considering the recent changes to the detection mechanic (ships not suffering the 20 seconds debuff if the shot they took didn't cause them to be detected), I actually think the change isn't bad, though empiric evidence in form of actual gameplay experience should of course have the last word.

Met xXx_Blogis_xXx in his Saipan as I was divisioning with Damata and (unpinkied) FireRM. Sadly I was stuck holding the enemy push on the west side together with a Nagato (who might aswell not count because I've not seen him hit ANYTHING) and my poor Colorado had the more or less undivided attention of six ships ... all I could do is stall them a bit and try not to die (mission accomplished and a hard earned Dreadnought!), so no time for me to shine. Blogis on the other hand was doing good work, over 2k base XP for him, two kills I think and a Clear Skies with 50 aircraft kills to his name. -

Lolwat? How on earth did I get 1k base XP? Hmm, maybe I do have to rewatch that replay file to see what I missed, but to think me getting my nose stomped in would kill their momentum like that sounds almost sad. -
Division trying to exploit carrier matchmaking to keep the other ships in the division toptier. One of the many good reasons why same-tier-only divisions should be a thing already (irregardless of the alleged efficacy of this method to achieve their goal).

Just met creamgravy in his Hatsuharu. Sadly I got focused by the enemy team and RNG wasn't much on my side either (Pensacola bouncing Colorado AP ) so I died swiftly. Together with the stupid MM I've had earlier that was already enough to bring me over the brink and I just quit.
