Is WoWS going the same way as WoT?
Aotearas replied to Dirty_Filthy_Scrublord's topic in General Discussion
Judging by the number of straightlining battleships I see all the time, even autodrops can be quite destructive -
Do I have enough time left to get two of the Fog Ships?
Aotearas replied to Frostmourne's topic in General Discussion
Not sure when exactly, but the missions won't run for much longer (you can check the time limit yourself by looking up the mission tab, it'll say until when it's running). Getting both the damage and the 2k hits done should be a tall order, so I wouldn't expect it unless you have a lot of freetime and even then it might not be enough. That said, you don't miss much out on if you can't. The ships are just reskins of normal ships you can unlock (tier V IJN BB Kongou and tier VII IJN CA Myoukou), plus a no-skill captain with some anime voiceover (and I think you can enable that with the new voiceover settings anyway without unlocking the ships). So there's no need to break a leg just for the missions -

Ah, another one of those "played less than me, so his opinion is worth less than mine too" ... tell me, how many t10 games do I have to play until my arguments can be taken on on their own merit rather than being an extra on the side after a generous dose of statbashing? I have a brain, I have access to stats like games played in t9+ CVs and contrary to you, I actually base my arguments on facts, not on throwing a temper tantrum based on failed reading comprehension. But by all means, proceed to childishly bloat your inflated ego if that makes you sleep better at night. -
Something that I noticed since last patch is that you can no longer research and/or purchase ships from their or their poredecessors module menu. Now you have to rightclick on the techtree to do that. The inconvenience is mildly annoying.

Why CV players should be able to do divisions together
Aotearas replied to Antique_Nova's topic in General Discussion
Basically, I understand your proposal is meant to encourage teamplay and make it possible for people to guarantee that they can play CVs and work together. Partly because being on the recieving end of two CVs who work together when the ones on your team don't is a massive disadvantage. However, the logical consequence would be that whilst you can guarantee two CVs working together by allowing them to division up, the same doesn't hold true for the enemy team who can still be seeded with two random CVs that might or might work together. As such, this would put the enemy team opposing a 2 CV division at a significant disadvantage. Hence why the proposal isn't balanced, it just shifts the disadvantage to the other side. edit:// Unless of course you force CV division mirror matchmaking too, so CV divisions always face CV divisions. But just imagine the waiting time before getting into a battle -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
And another game where my Nürnberg's backpack wasn't quite large enough: Personal Score Trainspite wasn't very happy with my performance, particularily when I killsecured that Hatsuharu. But I swear, I just wanted to help him. He could've theoretically evaded all his shots for a minute and then torp him after his torpedoes reloaded after the last failed attempt! So yeah, Cleveland and Hatsuharu weren't exactly kills with my name on every shell that hit them, but I still did 98k damage and got Confederate so I did something good. Shame it wasn't enough to win us the game. At least it provided for an enjoyable (and hopefully teaching) experience for one of my dead teammates who was spectating me and was vocally pleased with my performance Dat firechance doe ... -
Why CV players should be able to do divisions together
Aotearas replied to Antique_Nova's topic in General Discussion
The problem here is that unless the enemy team also gets two carriers in a division, you're just changing who's screwed over. I'm typically feverishly against restricting teamplay for balance reasons, but as you noted, two CVs working together vs two CVs that don't is a huge performance gap and with CVs capped to two per teams, it's not like the effects of teamwork are being diluted by virtue of having several other enemies to spread the impact on like with any other class. A triple BB division is still facing 10 enemy non-CVs, same as a cruiser and DD division. But the only effective hardcounter against CVs is other CVs (I define ship AA as softcounter, since you can technically avoid it, say triggering and then waiting out a Defensive Fire duration for example). If two Cvs play together in a division and the enemy CVs don't, you effectively halved their enemies capacity to counter them, which is disproportionally more so than with any other ship class in a division. As crude and unsatisfactory it is (trust me, I've only played few CV games but I know how frustrating it is when you can't count on your friendly CV at all, doubly so if you happen to be the lower tier one!), the alternative would cause even more lopsided match-ups. This is a textbook example of "can't please 'em all" and unless WG reworks CV gameplay and balance between Cvs and all other classes from the ground up, I don't see a way to solve this. Hypocritical argument. If there was no significant enough performance gap between coordinated CVs and non-coordinated ones, you wouldn't propose what you did. You can't form a proposal on a basic premise, then dismiss the logical consequence of it in effect as invalid counterargument.- 70 replies

Is WoWS going the same way as WoT?
Aotearas replied to Dirty_Filthy_Scrublord's topic in General Discussion
You seemed to have missed the "for example" part, which implies that my point is not meant to be a thorough analysis. That is further exemplified by me not using the word "only", even though you just tried to put it in my mouth. And I was stating the common arguments that are being tossed around when high tier meta is being discussed, that includes bow-on sitting Yamato BBs so excuse me when I demonstrated how a common complaint about high tier gameplay fits into the problematic of lacking CV numbers. I do know how to play the game and when to switch ammunition, so how about you take your attitude and stuff it. -
Can't research/purchase ships via ship/module UI
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
Strange though, only mods I run are the Extended Techtree, golden premium consumables and the port mod. Maybe it's the latter, I'll switch port and see if it changes. edit:// Nope, switching port doesn't do it. Will uninstall and then see how it goes, maybe find out what's causing it. -

Can't research/purchase ships via ship/module UI
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
Not for me, for example I have the Farragut elited and the Mahan researched (via techtree, because of the mentioned UI problem), but neither can I purchase the ship from the Farragut's module UI, nor is there a purchase option on the Mahan's port view, only via techtree: There used to be a reasearch/purchase button you could use to buy a ship straight from its port view: -

The meta is not the same considering that you hardly see CVs in t9 or t10 matches. Yet CVs are a crucial pillar for the game's balance; Montana vs Yamato for example, Montana's strong point is its AA, however with CVs being rare that advantage amounts to little and no CVs are punishing Yamato's who just sit bow-on camping for half the match. The meta isn't different as much as it's broken because of the absence of 1/4 of the game's balance element. Camping BBs? Airstrikes will teach players to move again. Invisible DDs? Airplanes can scout. Torpedo soup? Airplanes can also spot torpedoes making evading them easy. -
Can't research/purchase ships via ship/module UI
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
Not working on live server, at least not for me. The 'Research/Purchase' button you could select in the top-right corner right underneath the ship's icon and name is gone for me, same with the option from the modules UI. I do have the Extended Techtree mod installed, though I don't remember anything about it messing with the game's UI like this if it's the culprit. -
Großer Kurfürst - World of Warships - German tier 10 Battleship
Aotearas replied to U156dasboot's topic in General Discussion
Not even a synopsis of what the video is like. Are you playtesting the ship? Or did you just happen to find it in a server and free cam'ed around it after you died for five minutes? Are you going over the stats? Will not follow a single clickwhoring link if the poster couldn't even be arsed to write a single descriptive sentence. Also, wrong forum section as has been noted. -

Of course a broadside paddlin' at t5 is going to bring you back to port just as easily. Go sail broadside on to a New York and see how much HP you've got left after his salvo. It's just that for one, fewer people in the midtiers know how to lead correctly and secondly that battleship accuracy scales with range the higher up the tiers you go. A Yamato is only marginally more accurate at its max range than a New York is at its. One might not hit the side of barn from the inside in a New York from 15km out and can get precision strikes with the Yamato at the same range, but for the Yamato that's midrange. A New York at 8km will hit you just as easily. One of the biggest problems of high tier gameplay is the common absence of aircraft carriers. Bow-on camping Yamato? You'd see much less of that if they'd have to watch out for Midway/Hakuryuu strikes all the time. CVs are hardcounters to the two primary issues people have with hig tier gameplay: camping BBs and invisible DDs. WG needs to incentivice CV play again, because right now with CVs being a rarity in high tiers, the intended balance between CV-BB-CA-DD is broken without CVs. -
Same here, but I'm also confident in my aiming and prediction. Someone who isn't yet might find sequential firing useful and I just wanted to say it's not entirely without benefits as opposed to a full volley.
-
Firing sequential has the benefit that you can adjust your aim for each subsequent shot. But the shots themselves do not get more accurate.

Short question, but whenever I check the SGWA ingame channel it's mostly empty, I think the most I ever saw were two people (EsaTuunanen and Zed_von_Toza if I remember right). Bit of a shame because I'm always looking to division up with people and I do believe myself halfway competent enough to provide a bit of live coaching on top of simply playing together, so is this the norm or do you lot simply have some wierd activity hours?
-
I just hope they translate the Dunkerque turrets' compartmenatalization into the game, so if you get a nasty hit on a turret, it'll only disable two guns instead of all four.
-
quoted post removed I might remind you that the Vichy Regime wasn't the only organised french entity after France's surrender to Germany. Free French forces fought on for the entire remainder of the war, including a Free French Navy.
-
quoted post removed Considering the Dunkerque and her sistership were designed to engaged the German commerce raiders who would've tried to run away from it, having all its firepower up front in a chasing action is not a design flaw ... for obvious reasons. So, if anyone feels like regurgitating the cheese-eating surrender monkeys joke (a joke whose endless repitition stopped being funny around half a century ago already), at least get the branch right. The French Navy didn't run for it, a fact they actually paid in blood when the British tried to deny their ships from a potential Nazi takeover. And when that one eventually started, the French scuttled their navy in port rather than handing them over.
-
Messed up CV spawn. I thought they had fixed that bug a couple patches past?
-
Smoke and long range torps? That might be a bit much ...
-
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
-
Here's the Dunkerque from an image someone at the SEA server put up a while ago: And Flint is basically an Atlanta without the wing turrets, but with the Smoke consumable unless I'm mistaken.
