Typically you want to exploit your better detectability in the early phase and try to stealth cap any capture points and spot enemy DDs for your cruisers to engage. Always try to approach the start of the match from a course that lets you bail out of an unfavourable situation asap. For example steer towards an objective from a course that if you get spotted, you can duck behind an island and use it as cover to either wait it out or run away. The most important thing is to keep an eye on the minimap. If you know where the enemy ships (particularily enemy DDs and aircraft!) are you can plan your positioning to avoid them and at that point you can exploit your longer ranged torpedoes to stealth torp enemy ships from safe distance. The initial clash is the deciding factor, more than anything because you have little idea of where the enemy ships are, so it's best to start off more conservatively until you know where you can play to your strengths and where you should stay away from. With time and experience you can predict halfway accurately what the enemy might do by interpreting the team compositions and your own spawning locations to make an educated (albeit still hazardous) guess.

Alright, after OP seems to have mellowed out a bit and is more open for advice: Consider that a LOT of people are currently playing the new German BBs, including a lot of experienced players as opposed to the typically less experienced ones that you see, particularily in the low and mid tiers (i.e.: Minekaze MM bracket). So you don't only face good ships, but also good players that have an above average wealth of skill for those tiers compared to pre-German BB introduction. Secondly, you have very, very limited experience in playing BBs yourself. I'd recommend playing some BBs to get a feel on how they perform so you can get a grip on what they can do and what they can't. Learn to think like the enemy so to speak. It will make it easier to predict what the BBs will be doing and how they react. It will also help you understand what mistakes you make in your DD and ironing those out will make you less predictable (ambushes around islands are no bad idea, but competent BB players tend to not approach islands with enemy DDs still in the game in the first place (short version) because they know they'd be easy targets for a DD hiding there). And if you think the German BBs are nasty, might aswell start playing them, aye? Thirdly, PTFO. Don't eschew objectives in favour for doing more damage. You don't make more XP that way (typically you get less if you aren't really racking those numbers up compared with capturing points (they give a LOT of XP) and if your team loses because they get no points, you also have little time to try and get damage done.

Would be neat if something was done about this. I rather prefer the game actually giving me correct feedback, but maybe that's just me being oldfashioned ... I grew up with paper manuals and such after all and those also went out of fashion.

Give this thread a recall when you're actually prepared to recieve advise and improve yourself rather than throwing a hissy fit because you seem unable to adapt to something as simple as battleship drivers using their WASD keys.

'Fate/Zero' ist der Name vom Anime. Will ich eigentlich garnicht spoilern weil es ein nicht unwichtiger Wendepunkt der Handlung ist. Lass es einfach gesagt sein dass der gezeigte Charakter auf eine gewisse Weise sehr trollig sein kann. Im Kontext der hiesigen Diskussion: Mir ist absolut klar wie sich das angehört hat und hab das absichtig so formuliert ... obgleich ich dann auch annehmen muss dass der eigentliche Witz mit dem Charakter auf dem als erstens gezeigtem Bild auch kein Glöckchen gerungen hat. Dazu sag ich dann nur: leg dich in die 'Fate/' Serien und du wirst mit der Realization nochmal schmunzeln Ausserdem ist es absolut erstklassiges Anime/Visual Novel/Light Novel Material, kann ich jedem Fan nur wärmstens empfehlen, 'Fate/Zero' insbesondere ist in meiner Anime Hall of Fame!

Well, I'll just get my own little newbie question (plz just overlook my gameplay stats) in: how exactly do ship specializations for captains work? Does a captain get an automatic specialization for the ship he has been recruited for and will the specialization change upon assigning him to a new ship after the retraining is complete? I have no idea how it actually works and when I go through my captains, I have only a few that say anything about a ship specialization, even though I have moved and retrained a fair share of captains so I always assumed that's a trait a captain earns after having played an arbitrary amount of games in a select ship ...

Since Atlanta (and Flint I suppose) already gets unlimited charges for her 'Defensive AA Fire', is the reduced cooldown the only benefit from using the premium version of it? Also, worth it just for that avatar alone (which anime btw?).

Quoted those for emphasis. As has been noted already, your stats in the Scharnhorst are smackdab conform with your other tier VII ship performances, it's not performing any worse. So unless you also think that those other ships are horribly underpowered, I fail to see how you came to that conclusion. As for your gameplay example, that a prime example of an exaggerated result of bad play. IF the Cleveland was sailing broadside to you, it won't bounce anything you shoot at it. If you landed 3 penetrations and two overpenetrations, yet only did 3600 damage, then that's the (UI?) bug (you actually didn't hit the ship, but client and server are desync'ed so you aren't getting the correct UI feedback, or so I understand the bug at least) since the actual damage from that salvo would be 9k damage. Even a slightly angled Cleveland will not suddenly start bouncing all shells since the Scharnhorst's 283mm AP shells will overmatch a Cleveland's bow/aft armour (16mm) at anything that isn't an auto-bounce angle. I suppose the armour might bounce your shells if you targeted the best protected areas when the Cleveland was angled well, but otherwise what you just said is gameplay mechanically impossible! If you are getting bad results in this ship (which doesn't seem to be the case when checking your stats), then adjust your playstyle, because the ship most certainly isn't underpowered.

Which patch are you talking about? I don't remember having seen anything like this in the patchnotes in either 0.5.9 or thereafter and that's roughly when it seemed the credit rewards got lowered.

Weekends. Also of note should be that at least in Germany it's summer vacation time so a lot of teenage playerbase that goes still goes to school happened to have free on the german battleship line release day which surely must've played a not insignificant part.

Met cpt_dandy today on my newly acquired Tirpitz's maiden voyage. Sadly my attention was focused on the hilarity that was the Wg_Gamescom_## account in its Tirpitz that just Leeroy Jenkins'ed straight through the middle of the map, so I don't really recall anything noteworthy I might praise him for. He was the recipient of mandatory forum nepotism though and I'm pretty sure he was very helpful in chat, even if I never noticed it, so I complimented him for that

Depends, what classes do you like to play and how? From those named I have only bought the Tirpitz and Atago today and only played the Tirpitz for a single game so I can't divulge some founded insight, but ultimately all of them are quite strong ships. Tirpitz is tanky as hell, Atago has the heal and is an overall good heavy cruiser, Mikhail Kutuzov is a good light cruiser with longranged, accurate guns good for killing DDs and setting fires to basically everything and has very strong AA. All of them earn plenty credits as tier VIII premiums. If anything, Tirpitz is the more unique one due to its strengths (very good armour, less alpha damage but good dpm, torpedoes and very agile), so if you're looking for a bit more spice it should do the trick. But I'm also very much liking battleships and particularily playing them more aggressively so that is obviously speaking in its favour as far as my personal bias go. From a strictly economic point of view, you save most money buying the Tirpitz at discount, followed by the Atago. However ultimately speaking the Mikhail Kutuzov is the least expensive discount included so you may choose that one and have some Doubloons spare for other stuff. Tough choice and I can definately say I know your plight since I had a very hard time deciding whether I should get the Atago or the Mikhail Kutuzov ... I only decided on the Atago because I had a nice 13 point captain sitting around that I could put into it, plus I already enjoy the VMF cruisers so much having a high performance IJN cruiser would provide me with an incentive to keep playing those heavy cruisers so I can finally get decent with them. Alternatively, if it doesn't HAVE to be a tier VIII ship, the Blyskawica just got added to the ingame techtree as buyable premium ship (4800 Doubloons) and it's a very good tier VII DD, plus cost half or less compared to the tier VIIIs. I would like to recommend the Scharnhorst, but strictly speaking with the Tirpitz on discount being only negligibly more expensive compared to the unbundled Scharnhorst it's not sound advice as you get more out of the Tirpitz for basically the same price (however the Scharnhorst is a ridiculously fun ship, so definately a recommendation for that aspect!).

Probably because of this: You literally have to wait 2+ minutes to even start a game and then its two thirds BBs per team. Tier IV not looking much better. Starting from tier V you can get somewhat normal waiting times, though you risk getting seeded with the tons of Scharnhorst players around.

Not halfway as bad as having well over 600 BBs waiting in queue because everyone and their mom wants to play the new german BBs

Have I mentioned how I like the ship already? As for leaving work early undetected ... did you spec into 'Concealment Expert' and or got a smoke ready?
