What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Good start for the day. Completed the 'Battle of Rennel island' stages 4 and 5 in my first two consecutive games. Game started well, but somewhere during the match the team just crumbled. No idea how, I was too busy micromanaging my aircraft. Near the end I was getting almost desperate because I thought I wouldn't get the stage 4 completed as it was looking more and more like an assured loss. The 2.2kk credits in the results screen drew a confused eyebrow up my face and then an elated sigh as I realized that actually winning the battle wasn't a completion requirement, phew. Then the next game I took out my Anshan to try and get that juicy tier VI double CV matchup so I have a chance to actually kill a CV only to be greeted with a tier VIII game. There was at least a CV per team but catching a Shokaku, that ain't easy if he knows what he's doing. So I went about my work ... Welp, so that happened. Game starts unexpectedly good as a gung-ho Takao somehow blundered into a full torpedo spread (of which the second spread wasn't even aimed for him ...), then put a couple dents into the enemy Akatsuki, capped the base and went for a harassment run towards the spotted Shokaku. He actually grounded himself, otherwise there's no way I could've caught that CV. Sunk a bunch of ships in the process, then the Shokaku and had to run for my life away from the Hipper that was trying to chase me down. Game is won and 'Rennel Island' mission completed, yay! -
Pretty sure the Graf Zeppelin is just short of officially confirmed from what I heard the WG guys allude to potential premium ships. Afaik they didn't outright say yes, but the hints they dropped were about as subtle a girlfriend with crotchfree lingerie and bedroom eyes on Valentine's Day. Don't think we'd ever see a regular CV line for the germans though. Too little material. I'd rather WG think about a battlecruiser branch split from the regular battleships and same could be done with the RN because those two nations were pretty much the only ones to really get into the battlecruiser concept (even with vastly different approaches, with RN sacrificing armour to get speedy and punchy BCs, yet the KM sacrificing gun sizes to get speed and protection, which is just screaming for a nice balancing vector!).

2 premiums with rediculous matchmaking bias
Aotearas replied to Praetorias's topic in General Discussion
Confirmation bias. That's just unlucky MM. Same as switching to HAS because there's no CVs around and *bamm*, suddenly CVs everywhere. RNGods Old Testament style: clingy jealous, vengeful and prone to temper tantrums. That's just how RNG is. -
Greater Internet [edited] Theory. Don't let it get to you and any number of internet tough guys can run their mouth all they like; the only thing they'll achieve is look silly.

Step #1: Check teams to see if the enemy has a Yamato. If no, proceed to step #2. If yes, proceed to step #4. Step #2: Check teams to see if there are CVs. If no, proceed to step #3. If yes, proceed to step #5. Step #3: Congratulations, no Yamato and no CV. Proceed to point your bow towards the enemy and charge them relentlessly. Mercy is for the weak! Step #4: Well f*ck, you can't angle against Yamato, so your best option is not being anywhere near it. Pray to the spawn system it puts the Yamato on the other side of the map. If that is the case, proceed to step #5. If Yamato spawns near you, proceed to kiss your arse goodbye. Step #5: Keep on moving that fat arse and keep it moving with the AA to keep that CV away from you, because you're as easy a target as it gets. Otherwise, tank everything bow-on and for God's sake stay away from any Yamato and you might just have a great game.

Eh, most of the time they actually are too scared to get stuck in and rather hide somewhere from all the big, bad top-tier ships. At least those are my typical teammates and I'd envy you if yours play properly consistent enough to have such a different opinion.

Buying Dabloons to grind the Missouri?
Aotearas replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
How many Papa Papa signal flags have you lying around? I had roughly 550k free XP before the Missouri got announced and grinded myself the remaining 200k free Xp just by plaing with Papa Papa flags on everything. Took me around 2 weeks to get the necessary free XP. And right now I'm again sitting at something close to 150k free XP (after I already blew some for the Chapayev B hull (36k iirc) since then, so you should be able to farm free XP rather swiftly; if you hunt those daily XP bonuses, 100k free XP on a good week isn't outlandish. Plus the 500 free XP from the crates add up nicely too. Stay strong. -

Not breaking anything. The teams I had today are easily the worst I had in several months. No words, just frustration! -
No you didn't, unless you mean to say got 8700 base XP.

Portal news article says 25k experience. NOT base experience.

Does russian cruiser armor get better than Shchors?
Aotearas replied to _x_Acheron_x_'s topic in General Discussion
This is a bug in the game. Actually russian ships are supposed to have regenerative forcefields to negate enemy fire, but some capitalist swine has infiltrated the developers and is constantly meddling with the files to glitch that ability out. -
Whilst I can only agree that CVs have an unparalleled potential compared to any other individual ship of any class (with an equally disproportional learning curve and derived skillgap), I have to disagree based on a couple practical limitations: First, I find the argumentation of putting a good CV player against a bad one to be a faulty proposition to base any balance concerns on. A bad BB player who's making mistakes is going to lose just as decidedly against a good BB. Yes there are many bad CV players that will get murdered by good ones, but that's less the fault of the game mechanics as it's the player's (and WG's for not exactly making it easy to learn the class ...). Secondly, if we were to assume two roughly equally skilled CV players pitted against each other, the majority of the pure performance potential gets locked behind trying to get past the enemy CV in the first place. In an equal battle of two good CV players, they are mostly preoccupied with fighting each other to try and sneak some strikes in than if they were just cycling one airstrike after another. The actual damage potential is directly proportional to the number of successful strikes a CV player can deliver and a good enemy CV is cutting down that number significantly. Thirdly, airstrike damage can be greatly migitated if not outright repelled by sufficient AA. That can be an AA cruiser with defensive AA (which doesn't even have to shoot down all those planes as the panic effect from Defensive AA Fire greatly reduces the accuracy and thus directly the damage of attack runs) or just a massed overlapping AA aura of multiple ships. The raw damage potential of a CV strike can only really be exploited in full against isolated targets. Last but not least and imho the most powerful utility of good CV players is their ability to provide spotting informations. And we sadly already know what happens when those informations become lacklustre *coughRadioLocationBScaptainskillcough*

How can we prevent this from happening almost every game?
Aotearas replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
Erm, no? For one, going ANYWHERE is only a sensible option regardless of map topography if you can actually make a difference in the fight for your team's advantage. Even the best camping spot is utterly useless if it just so happens that no enemy is in the vicinity that one may shoot up with from said camping spot, just to give an easily understood example. Also, if you find yourself overwhelmed going center or northeast on that map, you really ought to work on where exactly you go and what path you take because there are loads of islands around that you can use as cover. Lastly, one should also always consider the relative powerbalance of one's team. Today I had a match on that map in my Warspite. Tier VII max battle and our only other BBs where a three-man division in Scharnhorsts. They went down south ... leaving only my Warspite as a BB to provide more punchy firepower for the entire top half of the map. And what did those three Scharnhorsts achieve with them going down there? They fought one (!!!) ship, then got bogged down by two enemy DDs that went down there (because om nom nom, three BBs) whilst my poor lonesome Warspite had to fight two Gneisenaus, one Bayern and a König together with cruisers and the one DD that stayed up north. If you want to do the math, that's 3/4 of the enemy fleet, including ALL their BBs ... and I was the only one of ours up there to try and hold off their push long enough for those Scharnhorsts to lazyarse their way up from the south corner of the map so they could start capping the enemy base. Or in less words: Neighbours south island triangle is the n00bzone. Don't go there. Same as North D cap, Faultline C cap, Atlantic (or was it Okinawa? not sure) A cap and the channel in Two Brothers. If you go there, at the start of the match, you're making ahuge mistake. Lateron in the game, when the enemy positions are accounted for and opportunities (or need) arises, THEN one can contemplate if it's worth going those places. Trust me on that. There's little to be had if you go these places and even a slightly more tough fight is ultimately more rewarding (in credits and XP, plus enjoyment if you like having a good fight)! -

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aotearas replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I would agree if it didn't seem evident that WG (or at the very least Octavian) is relentlessly dismissing community concerns and brushing both legitimate criticism together with kneejerk reactions. Neither does it help that literally EVERY argument against RPF that WG deigned to adress in some sort of fashion has been refuted because "data" ... without ever actually outlying what exactly data they are referring to. IF WG shared what they're actually monitoring to test RPF, what thresholds they have to determine whether it's go or no, then the community could actually stand to reason with that, or see how WG's argumentation may make sense. But WG has shown ZERO accountability in that regard, they just lazily point towards their "data" and that's it, end of discussion. They are building a wall to ward of criticism like children sticking their fingers into their ears and yelling "LALALALALAICAN'THEARYOU". And that is completely ignoring the baseline question on why RPF is needed in the first place. According to Octavian it's a means to eliminate drawn out games (no more ship running away and hiding to draw out a game) and to increase the effectiveness of ships hunting DDs. All of which are problems that can be solved just as good, if not better, by an element that is already in the game: CVs. So why would WG implement a new skill and risk a community outrage, if they could get the same results by finally fixing and promoting CV gameplay, which in contrast would be warmly welcomed by most of the community since that is something they've been asking for a long time. WG had the options of a controversy or a Win-Win scenario ... and they chose controversy. That is stupid. -
some things if you can added to the game I think it will be very challenging

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aotearas replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Using RPF on all my DDs, RN CLs and am contemplating to use it on Radar cruisers, not quite sure yet, but always knowing where to point my guns before radaring is pretty nifty, makes that first volley hit much more devastating when they are still largely immobile in their smoke. I'd prefer not to use it at all, but especially in DDs you simply need the skill to counter anyone who's using it and when using gunboat destroyers it's disgustingly easy to hunt down enemy DDs that don't have it. -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aotearas replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
From Takru's reddit compilation today: Now that's an agenda driven supposition if I ever saw one. OBVIOUSLY WG is utterly infallible and everyone who criticized RPF was just mindlessly raging and was immediately convinced of the opposite as soon as the patch hit. And any myth of ongoing criticism is just a conspiracy, there is no criticism after the patch, everything is perfectly balanced, move along citizen, nothing to see here. Also makes it more and more clear that all the talk about continuing to observe the RPF data on live server and potentionally removing the skill was just hot air meant to placate the opposition. Since quite evidently he's perfectly content with how it is and criticism doesn't exist, hence no reason to remove anything ... I have a lot of patience, but this guy, I can't take him seriously anymore.
