Dear WG, please make the following matchmaking impossible

Just wanted to point at that whilst cheating exists, the majority of players don't cheat, including those in clans naturally. -

Not sure if you understood what I was trying to say: The potential problem is that clans are synchronizing battle search in an effort to land in the same game and hopefully on the same team (chances can be optimized by picking specific ship classes). The offered solution was to implement a check that limits the numbers of members of the same clan to be fed into the same game/team by the matchmaker. So far so good. However that doesn't account for people that aren't in a formal clan. They could still synchronize battle search to trick the MM into seeding them into the same team. Plus with MM already trying to balance out divisions (actual success or lack thereof aside) if those people aren't in a division the chances of actually getting into the game are even higher compared with divisions of several clanmembers trying the same. And nothing stops those people from communicating over TS, for all intents and purposes a close knit group of friends would constitute a clan, albeit not officially, hence any system designed to limit clan divisions for the MM would be utterly ineffectual in dealing with that. And the reality of that issue is indisputable as I'm sure many people have been partnering up with friends before they joined a clan, or are doing so without intending to join one (the official WoWs TS server for example is rife with people playing together despite not belinging to any clan, or different clans). Any limitation regarding clan tags is insufficient to solve the synchronized battle search MM workaround/bypass/exploit/whatever someone may call it. And having established that particular problematic, how could a limitation regarding clans be justified when it's only a half-measure that's not actually capable of solving the actual problem, but just one very specific version of it (i.e.: clans no longer capable of synchronizing battle search, but everyone not belonging to the same clan or no clan at all can still do it just the same) be considered a viable solution? If anything one could argue that it unfairly discriminates and anyone who actually wanted to abuse the system could still do it, all they have to do is dissolve/leave the clan and the countermeasures are suddenly turned impotent. I just don't think there is a working solution. And that would be assuming there was even a problem to begin with. Personally I don't mind click-divisioning to get into games with others outside one's own division. Neither would I mind much if that were no longer possible (provided WG implements a clan activity so clans can actually play together without being limited to three player divisions). If anything I'm convinced this is a player problem, not a MM or clan issue. It's douchecanoes that actually do such stupid things like sabotaging matches for their or someone else's favour that are the problem, not the fact that more coordinated people than strictly intended can get into the same game. The only solution I see is WG working on recognizing, tracking and subsequently actioning player misbehaviour of that sort. -

The problem with trying to have the MM discrimate clans in order to avoid more than three mambers of clan getting in the same match (or just the same team) is that it's impractical and ripe for exploitation by people who aren't in a formal clan but happen to play a lot together anyway. I was regularily divisioning with forumites long before I joined a clan. How would the system know when a couple of players not belonging to the same clan intend to play the MM by synchronizing the battle search? -

Have you been in a clan? Because really, that accusation is quite something. And in all my experience playing in clans, most of which weren't even competitive (i.e.: participating in leagues/tournaments, just playing together and having the occasional scrim against another clan) such behaviour would be an INSTANT boot from the clan and blacklisted (i.e.: telling clans we get along with nicely that they ought to have an eye out if he tries to apply to them). That goes for any behaviour that goes against game rules. Now, it IS true that some egocentric clans (more like: clanleaders and their sheep) do this. However that number is probably incredibly low compared to legitimately playing clans and placing every clan under general suspicion is quite the malignant point of view to have. It's not even cynic since quite frankly you'd be wrong more often than not. As many people who play in clans have said already, if clanmates find themselves on opposing teams it typically goes: TS banter ("Nuke those traitors!" "No, you're the traitors, traitors!") Chat banter optional Focusing enemy clanmates if you see them (since you know what they can do and in a competitive clan that means they are probably some of the best players the enemy team has, ergo good riddance if you can sink them) More TS banter as soon as someone dies ("Git gud u scrub!" "H4X!!11!1!!") "GG" upon game end. Alternatively you may scratch the TS banter entirely if people decide to switch TS channels if they are really, really competitive and don't have time to banter in favour of trying to focus on winning the game (TS banter comes after the match end then in more or less the same fashion). That's the modus operandi for every clan I've been in and is mirrored by every single person I know that has been in a clan. Assuming those players would simply bend over and feed themselves to the enemy is simply insulting. If people have plenty of suspicion because weird stuff went on, then they ought send that to support (and not put it on the forum as it's essentially naming and shaming the clan, which would be a ToS violation and should be avoided anyway). -

Naw, the problem is first and foremost player performance, not ship performance. A potato in a toptier ship is still a potato. I don't think the +/-2 tierspread is something that needs change, though neither do I think reducing it to +/-1 spread would make it worse aside from potentially requiring to rebalance a couple ships. Still wouldn't change a thing about players having no clue how to play.

Not convinced that's a sufficient explanation. If anything I've seen more and more incompetent DDs than usual. Like, ignore capture zones like the plague US DDs, or trying to torpedo boat RU DDs ... plus the ever present secondline torping IJN DDs.

This weekend was noteworth in its potato density. Skill deviations are greater as more people play and I've come to begrundingly accept that, but the number of landslide victories (and defeats) these last two days was astonishing.

Regarding the rule about not posting content from private messages, does that only count for private conversations with staff/support, or does that include any form of private messages from any user on the forum?

Using it on my US DD and RN CLs. Also thinking about using it on my RU DDs after I leveled those a bit. Nothing quite says "screw you" like a RU gunboat DD going straight at you with 50kn speed. That detectability gap only lasts for a couple seconds if you can just beeline it straight to the nearest DD at such ludicrous speed. Also finally stopped grinding the IJN DD line (which I only played sporadically anyway) since with stealth really being the only big strength those ships have and that skill just pointing right at you, might aswell not bother and have more fun with DDs that can actually brawl. ESP cheat skill is BS and needs to go.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

My point was that player stats aren't solely attributed to individual players. They are the result of one player being part of a twelve player team pit against another twelve player team, which is 23 random variables that will effect player performance to a significant degree, hence the futility to try and draw conclusion upon skill from paying extra attention to solo stats as contrasted to division stats. I was contesting the viability of assigning a greater importance to solo stats contrasted with divisions. I would also play a bit semantics here and say that it's not player skill in division having a multiplicative effect on performance, but rather the contrary: a diminishing impact of the otherwise typical lack of coordination in random teams, which in turn brings out the importance of individual skill as they can actually employ their skills with more consistency with a trusted division mate at their backs rather than somehow eating a couple torps from a random secondline torpedo pinky. And with consistency it's easier to measure the actual skill level of a player.
