Afaik it doesn't. But unless I'm recounted obsolete informations, Marblehead benefits from a secret firechance modifier. Wanna do a Marblehead mayhem div sometime? You can name the video "Marblewargarblehead Doubletake 8/8 firechance bait"

I meant linear as in no sudden jump in tiers. The fact that, with the way this split has been handled, people can play tier VIII without ever having unlocked the tier VII is ludicrous.

Zao actually gets pretty decent AA with its 100mm DP and the 40mm mounts. It's nothing like the Des Moines or Hindenburg, but together with Defensive AA it beats out the Minotaur and possibly even the Moskva (don't know for sure) though the Moskva still gets the longest range for its AA.

Except that my Udaloi captain has to be retrained again if I want to use it and that generous 9 skillpoint captain is not competitive for a tier IX environment (not even a tier IV captain perk). So I lost a captain specialization that I have to retrain with either time, precious elite commander XP or money and a captain that I can't really use on a tier IX ship. The way WG handled it is just an inconvenience. There was no point in railroaded the Udaloi captain to the Tashkent when WG could've just moved the old Tashkent captain to the new one. Udaloi keeps it's captain and I wouldn't have to train it back. I get it that I've gotten a free 9 skillpoint captain. I just don't value it much at all compared to my 16 point captain that's now on a ship where I didn't want it. Or that the Udaloi is suddely completely stock again. The whole compensation plan from WG was utterly illogical from a linear progression point of view. It should've simply replaced ships of the same tier a player had researched/owned and that's it. Giving people a free tier VIII Ognevoi because they had it at tier VI is nonsensical if they didn't already proceed to tier VIII anyway. Having players skip an entire tier is stupid. Player had tier V Gnevny? Gets new Podvoisky, has Gnevny captain retrained for it, done. Player had tier VI Ognevoi? Gets new Gnevny, has Ognevoi captain retrained for it, done. Player had tier VII Kiev? Gets new Minsk, has Ognevoi captain retrained for it, done. Player had tier VIII Tashkent? Gets new Kiev and Ognevoi, gets captain retrained for Kiev and gets a captain for Ognevoi (either cloned captain without captain skills assigned, or arbitrarily skilled captain befitting the tier), done. Player had tier IX Udaloi? Gets new Tashkent and Udaloi, captain stays on Udaloi and gets new captain for Tashkent, done. No tier skipping, no unwanted captain reshuffling.

Marblehead is meh. Higher detectability than firing range is already a disadvantage, but being at tier V it also means facing lots of tier VI and VII ships thanks to the current MM and for those ships a Marblehead is just fodder.
-
Oh, then why is my Udaloi captain been replaced by a measly 9 skillpoint captain? Sure as hell lost something there ...

Constant CTDs after patch 0.6.1 (continuing with 0.6.2)
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in Archive
And the crashing continues. 4 CTDs today ... Seriously, what changed from 0.6.0 to 0.6.1 that suddenly the game is unstable as hell for me? Going from perfectly fine to crashing all the time is NOT normal. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Aotearas replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Blogis and B4zza ran into MortenTardo, MariohanaNOR and me. We won. I also somehow lost 7 karma in that game -
RU tier VIII and IX cruisers RU tier VIII, IX and X destroyers (except the Ognevoi in the split line) US tier VIII, IX and X destroyers IJN tier VIII cruiser in 155mm setup IJN tier VIII destroyer from the split line (Akizuki) RN tier VIII, IX and X cruisers GE tier VIII, IX and X destroyers (tier VIII in 150mm setup might cut it a bit short but the 128mm setup easily does the job) Plenty of ships that can comfortably do it.

When in port, click on the 'Profile' header near the top of the screen, then in the first tab you'll see your service record with account level, etc.. Next to your username there will be a small number. For every compliment, you gain one point, for each report, you lose one, but the value can never drop below zero.
-
Not really. The game will tell you when you've been reported or complimented two times or more in the post-battle pop-ups in port, but that's the extent of it. Plus you can always check your karma in your profile under the first tab (the little number next to your name).

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Didn't really bother grinding the KM DDs, though I recently started with that ... then this happened to just be the last game I needed to finish the V-170: The new map, Ring, which is very quickly becoming my favourite low tier map due to its versatile design and the various spots and corridors you can use to your advantage depending on what ship you're in. Absolutely love it (and in that same sentence I ought to also give a huge shoutout to the new Haven map which is equally brilliantly designed)!. So after beating up a gung-ho enemy V-170, I saw a Kaiser approaching the map center and snuck up to ambush it. No torpedo range like point blank range. Didn't end well for the Kaiser. Then I decided to seize the day and rush straight into the remaining assembly of enemy BBs ... only to run into the enemy Karlsruhe which had been sneakily disengaged from the flank that I had left beforehand. I thought I was a goner for sure, doubly so after the Karlsruhe had slowed down just enough to dodge my torpedoes which I had thrown its way as force equalizer. But the retaliation never came and it was happily sailing broadside to me at ~6km so I loaded the AP and started working the AP magic (and I still think the 105 guns are absolute shyte!) and almost killed it myself had my divisionmate not passionately tried to save me from the potential danger, richer a couple thousand damage points and a head full of why's ... but whatever. Charged the Texas, put some torps into it, then went on to farm a bit damage on the remaining New York before the game ended. -
Why is the game biased to American ships?
Aotearas replied to Xevenius's topic in Newcomers' Section
Why is this thread still open? OP opens topic with polarizing content and never returned. If that doesn't smell like bait I don't know what does. And it's not like the mods don't know about this thread ... someone is not doing their bloody job here! -
König can't overmatch New Mexico bow armour. König has pretty accurate guns for a BB though, so if he aimed for your superstructure and got lucky with dispersion that's a handful of penetrations.

Regia Marina light cruiser Duca D'aosta is coming
Aotearas replied to Pastaiolo's topic in General Discussion
Well, it's mostly just the deck that's so broad bowside. The form probably also served doublepurpose as a wave breaker, though I have pretty much zero knowledge in maritime design so that's quite possibly just me talking out of my arse ... -
Constant CTDs after patch 0.6.1 (continuing with 0.6.2)
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in Archive
No problems with other games. And like I said, I keep my system lean, that means no crap ton of active processes that might leech performance and cause stability issues. As for the report file, I can try renaming it, but I'm not sure if the file will be readable after download ... WoWS_report.wgc.zip 300.44K WoWS_report.wgc.zip -

Aotearas replied to Pastaiolo's topic in General Discussion
Such a shame it's tier VI. Given the current MM situation I have very, very little inclination on purchasing any premium ships in the tiers V and VI. Nevermind that I vowed to myself to be conservative with my wallet in the first place pending a reduction of WG shenanigans. This ship would have to perform quite well to overcome those preset negatives. -
Regia Marina light cruiser Duca D'aosta is coming
Aotearas replied to Pastaiolo's topic in General Discussion
Tier VI I suppose? Also, I see wingmounted triple torpedo launchers there, though the quick Wikipedia page said nothing about torpedo armament on that class in its article, neither for the ship itself or its class of ships. -
I would've at least expected that ships of the same tier you had elited would be available with all modules researched. Especially since they for some reason freely give away a tier VIII Ognevoi for everyone who had the tier VI version, no research required (even if they never unlocked the tier VII RU DD, which is pretty messed up considering that can leave a blindspot in the tree progression!). So at the very leaqst I would've expected the Ognevoi to be elited and any modules on the Udaloi that were researched prior to the split that are taken over to the new one after the split would stay researched aswell (Udaloi only loses the guns as a researchable module). Also no idea why the Ognevoi starts with 10km torps, but the Udaloi with 6km torps with 8km torps at best. You proceed from the ship that can comfortable launch torpedoes from stealth, to a ship that can't even with a full stealth spec and only after upgrading the torpedoes has marginally better stealth than torpedo range ... the whole new progression in the split line is screwed up! Honestly I don#t know what they were thinking with that. Any player that just happened to get to the pre-split Ognevoi at tier VI now got instantly boosted to tier VIII, completely skipping the tier VII ship in the process. And if we'd look at the average bob playing this game, why would he want to stay at the lower tier ship if he can jump straight into the higher tier one, nevermind sticking to the lower tier AND grinding through yet another lower tier ship just to reach the same tier he's been given for free? Naturally that average bob will happily jump into tier VIII with a subpar gifted captain, potentionally little to zero experience how high tiers play like. It's like the vanilla version of wallet warriors buying a hightier premium. Why would WG do that? Just replace the pre-split Ognevoi with the post-split Gnevny and let people progress up the techtree naturally without artificial shortcuts that are more likely to bite an unexperienced player in the arse. It's counterproductive.

So, finally been able to really see what they've done and frankly I'm appalled. Both the new Ognevoi and Udaloi are completely stock so we have to grind those ships over right from the start. All XP I had on the Udaloi that might've been used to unlock modules for it are transferred to the Tashkent where they are absolutely USELESS to me. Same for the captain that I now have to retrain back to the Udaloi again because a 9 skillpoint captain simply doesn't cut it at tier IX (not even a tier IV captain perk ffs!). Well done WG ... [/sarcasm] I mean, I was mentally prepared to grind the Udaloi to the Grozovoy again. And even though though it sucks that any surplus ship XP would be transferred to the Tashkent, I could grudgingly accept that, can't have everything instantly unlocked. But having to regrind the Udaloi from stock all over again AND do the same for the Ognevoi is too much. No, just no!

Considering you can sue any RU nation captain on the Gremy there's nothing to lose and lots of potential benefits by putting the captain on the Kiev as you can use it on both ships. Though the Gremy captain might not come with an optimal build for the Kiev (assuming you have EM which the Kiev doesn't need and CE which doesn't benefit the kiev that much because it's already suffering subpar stealth and one might use those skill points to rather optimize other traits).
