Fun has nothing to do with performance. Atlanta is fun. Ask around how many people think the Atlanta is a good ship. You're commenting on her performance. And as mtm78 has been telling you (and providing stats to back up his comments!) the Warspite performs adequately compared to her peers. So unless you intent to argue that all tier VI battelships are underperforming you argument is naught but empty air. 12-15km away from the enemy and angled against the big bad enemy battleships is the place for the Warspite in this game. Closer once the enemy big guns are dealt with.

Easiest countermeasure would be to push into the DD, close the distance to at best reach into its detectability range or force it to give ground at the very least. You can also retreat towards friendlies (allied DDs most preferably) which you can use to force the DD to abandon the attack. To do any significant damage with stealthfiring a DD has to invest quite some time and that's only feasible with isolated targets. All it takes is one allied ship blundering into the stealthfiring DD's detectability range for it to light up for everyone. Even if that doesn't mean it gets sunk, it will force it to abandon the attack and most probably make it a lot more cautious after having been caught already. As for cruisers in particular, the only line that has no tools in defending themselves from a stealthfiring DD are the KM cruisers with their typically inferiour stealth rating on their own. US/RU cruisers get radar (and yes, I am assuming we're talking about hightiers since the only ships below those tiers that can effectively stealthfire (and hit anything!) are the Gremyaschy and the Blyskawica) and IJN cruisers can stop firing upon whence they detectability is low enough that anything shooting at it will get spotted itself. BBs have little in the way of actively countering a DD that really wants to stealthfire them, but they also can weather the incoming fire like nothing else, with the only credible threat being bad luck with fires. And if you can't get anyone of one's team to help you in the several minutes it would take a DD stealthfiring them to death, then I'd argue the game was lost anyway, with or without countering the DD that's happy spending half the matchclock hoping for fires to actually cause some damage.

Well, their cruisers only get AP. So it's only logical for their battleships to get HE only. But they'll also get single puff smokes. Now a smoked up BB firing HE and a captain specced for IFHE ... hmmm
-
Eh, they also recommend using the Target Acquisition Modification on the North Carolina. No point in expecting competence. Besides, stealthfire didn't make it into the game by mistake. Anyone with an excel chart showing a ships maximum firing range and maximum detectability would've caught the mistake. The only thing that made it into the game by mistake are the overwhelming numbers of learn-resistant players that can't deal with stealthfire yet are happily spending big money on a game whose mechanics they don't (want to) understand. And the devs very much like people spending money, so naturally they cater towards the lowest common denominator and try to keep those idiots interested by making it easier for them so they feel like they're accomplishing something, which in turns increases their motivation to spend more money.

warum ist "Premium" so Unbeliebt ?
Aotearas replied to anonym_EADwq6AJPjhz's topic in Die Messe (Offtopic)
Eh, kein Problem. -

Could we also get custom gfx effects of sailors licking windows on our ships? Would represent our clan better than some piece of cloth flopping in the breeze.

Aotearas replied to anonym_EADwq6AJPjhz's topic in Die Messe (Offtopic)
It's not. A game withholding crucial informations about important game mechanics to the point that people wouldn't ever know they existed in the first place is simply bad game design. No ifs, no buts. Not many players actively seek to improve themselves, but you'd be surprised how many of those would inevitably improve simply because they are provided the informations they need in order to improve!

If you were to balance the game around the average joe, you have two basic ways to go about it: either you make mechanics forgiving enough that subpar play doesn't see you instantly deleted, or you make the ships powerful enough so players do well even without playing particularily well. The former one can very, very quickly end up a shallow, railroaded game with little depth. Whilst that may be nice for a casual player just hopping in for a handful games a day or just over the weekend, there wouldn#t be much for players to get invested in, so that might be bad for game longevity. The latter is an obvious balancing problem when good players get their hands on such ships as they may perform so well that ships turn overpowered in competent hands. In my opinion this isn't a game balancing problem at all. It's a problem with motivating players to learn. The game isn't exactly forthcoming with how to play the game. Aircraft carrier gameplay stands out as a gross example and that one resulting in a skillgap that is downright astronomical if you pit an autodropping average joe player against someone who knows how to strafe, how to manual drop, how to kite fighters away from attack groups, etc.! If the game had a more intuitive learning process in some areas (CV gameplay in particular) and actively tried to teach game mechanics (people who never read the forum simply can't know about stuff like the overmatch mechanic since the game never says anything about it!), I reckon the standard of gameplay would be much higher, which also makes it easier to balance the game since the devs could categorically assue most players know how to play the game to a reasonable degree.

PLAGUE is looking for training partners

Recruitment isn't exactly the correct section either. Can we get a general clan discussion subforum please? -
Is it a good Idea to remove Manual Atacks for low Tir CVs
Aotearas replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
Imho they should remove autodrops for every CV. They're basically useless against any player that knows how to press his WASD buttons anyway so nothing of value was lost. -

Hmm, shouldn't this go into the clan subsection? I know at least the German forum has a general discussions subforum in the clan section. No idea why the English speaking forum doesn't have it ... -

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Classic case of let's go ballin'. Two thirds of that damage was done within the same minute as I charged a Bismarck, New Orleans and a battered Bayer around an island. First an AP salvo into the New Orleans, then torps out for the Bismarck, then second salvo kills the New Orleans, have secondaries focusing the Bayern, shoot the Bayern. I died because duh, I charged three ships, inclusing two BBs (though I might've survived if the Bismarck didn't set me on fire thrice with his secondaries). But I killed the New Orleans with muh pew pews, sank the Bismarck with my steel eels and my secondaries set a fire on the Bayern that BBQ'ed it for a neat Double Strike Fleshwound. The Devastating Strike by the way wasn't the Bismarck. A Leander gave me her broadside ... Oh ... and there was was that: 'Clear Sky' in two minutes and six seconds in my 1/1/0 Bogue. Took me just two strafes and an auto-attack Somehow despite me neutering both enemy CVs basically as soon as the game started, my team managed to completely throw the almost certain victory away with such unerring efficiency that I had to wonder of they were purposefully trying to lose. -
Is it a good Idea to remove Manual Atacks for low Tir CVs
Aotearas replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
CVs in competent hands at low tiers are so strong because there's nothing that can defend itself from airplanes. The only thing that helps is your own CV and if that one gets outplayed, well ... Taking away a crucial feature and skill for future CV players however is just daft. It destroys the learning curve, builds bad habits (autodrop, yay) and makes CVs from overpowered to nearly useless because anything with as much brain as to use AD or QE buttons on their keyboard are almost impossible to hit with autodrops. I'd rather suggest WG scrap the tier IV CVs and have the line start at V (more AA for tier V ships and they can meet tier VI cruisers with defensive AA). WG can also adjust the damage that the fighter alt attack (Barrage/Strafe) does for lower tier CVs to decrease the performance gap between people who know how to strafe and those who don't. Naturally it shouldn't be nerfed to oblivion, but adjusted just enough that a single strafe can't nuke several entire squadrons. Maybe tie the alt atacks power to aircraft tier? The other thing WG can adjust is decrease aircraft survivability and increase reserves, helping lower tier ships to shoot down some aircraft, but without unduly penalizing CVs by having them run out of aircraft too soon. At this point I wouldn't mind. If WG wants to balance low tier Cvs with the sledgehammer, they might aswell just force players to learn fast or sink faster. -
Aye, but the two games don't share too much in the way of their target audience so there's no interest conflict. If anything, a collaboration would likely be mutually beneficial by introducing the different fandoms to each other and thus bringing new players to each game.

WG really should try and get a Kancolle collaboration going. Imagine if the Prinz Eugen got a captain voiced by Ori Azawa .... hhhnnnnnnnnnggggggg

I recall you challenging me to prove how you would drag down your allies. So I did by pointing out your abysmal stats, your winrate specifically which would certainly not be drastically below server average if you actually had a beneficial impact on the teams you're on (because helping your team stands in direkt causal relation with increasing your winning chances as opposed to not helping, it really is that simple). Which you then proceeded to ignore because apparently statistics are the equivalent of mystical hogwash. You are a hypocrite (using derogatory terms in your very first comment on this thread, yet you have the gall to berate others for supposedly insulting you when they say your attitude is selfish), you promote selfish behaviour by dismissing the impact any single player has on those he plays with and you're consistently ignoring and/or dismissing arguments brought against you even after you specifically asked for those!
-
I know and accept that not everyone is a born unicum. Neither am I. Everyone was new at some point and had to learn. I don't discriminate people based on stats. I'll play with anyone who's willing to learn. Stats are a tool, a feedback system to show players where they can improve. What I discriminate people for is behaviour, so if someone says selfish things, I'll call them selfish and wouldn't play with them, even if they were 100% winrate gaming gods. What I can't accept however is people using the "I play for fun" excuse to absolve them from anything stupid they might do or say and disregard the consequences they bring to everyone in the game, not just them. As I've said already: One person's fun ends where another person's frustration starts. In a cooperative multiplayer like here in WoWs, people do bear a certain responsibility to their peers. And if people don't want to live up to those responsibilities and just have some fun without wanting to care for others, they should find themselves a nice singleplayer game and have all the fun in the world where they're welcome to it! That's really all there is to the ongoing disagreement in here.

A player that didn't know how captain retraining works and supposedly wanted his Shimakaze captain in a Hashidate. People were baffled and then other people said that people shouldn't care and just do their thing. It took off from there. I might take a moment to emphasize how I outmtm'ed mtm78. Usually it's him banging his head against the proverbial wall Not sure if I should be proud of it, but damn does it feel carthatic!

Treating the symptoms, not the cause.

I had explained that exact bit in an earlier post. Feel free to look it up in this thread. I will not repeat myself. You could start at realizing the world doesn't revolve around you. You can't just tell people to ignore everyone and everything just to have fun and then expect not to get called out for a selfish attitude when we're talking about a cooperative multiplayer game. You might also do well in realizing what the difference between patronizing and insulting is. And I couldn't care less if you reject my help or not. I handed you an olive branch with the offer to help, but you chose to ignore that attempt at deescalation to continue with that ridiculous victimization agenda because that evil meany me doesn't agree with selfish behaviour. If that's the route you want to go, I shan't stop you. As long as you keep spouting BS, I will point it out. Invalid causal relation. Also it was you who started drawing attention to your stats, only to have it backfire spectacularily. Compare first paragraph regarding the supposed personal insults. It originally wasn't even meant for you specifically, you just took and ran with it. And I have no idea how you can admit to being bad, yet somehow maintain that me saying so is a false accusation. That logic does not compute! I would also point at your entry comment in this post: Let's count instances of dismissive and insulting terms, shall we? "tea leaf readers", "daft", "flamers" and "pis*takers". Are you sure you want to go all high and mighty about patronizing and insulting comments when you liberally used them yourself? Something something glass house and stones ... And apparently that was so long ago that you no longer remember the relevance of large sample size averages. If you insist on arguing against statistics, I recommend freshing up your knowledge on it.
