The sad state of the Yubari

Hmm, server averages actually say the Yubari is performing better than the Kuma in every aspect. She's also performing right at the top of the tier IV cruisers with only the Iwaki Alpha beating it considerably and that can mostly be accounted for by the typically more experienced players that will use her (the Iwaki Alpha having been a reward ship for those that participated in the game's alpha, hence the name), the other part being the Iwaki get's a smoke (which is also the reason why I'd love to get my hands on that little beauty, though I fear that ship has left the port). Being a premium and a long time exclusive also distorts its stats as the average player owning the Yubari is likely to be a bit more experienced (ship having been a buy-in for the Beta test) compared to the Kuma which is readily available to newbies, noobs and sealclubbing gameplay gods alike and I wouldn't argue the Kuma having an edge at the maximum damage potential, but statwise she seems to be doing perfectly fine. As for her unique flavour, although she's shooting down more airplanes compared to other tier IV cruisers it's still not a whole lot (at all, 2.2 aircraft average per game), but her Defensive AA as still panics the attacking aircraft so she still serves that purpose much more effectively than her peers (or really anything within her MM bracket). And with the upcoming (imho ludicrously inappropriate) CV balance changes to low tier CVs her relative performance in disrupting CV strikes will only increase, so an actual increase in her AA dps might not even be necessary to improve her performance. At least that's what I can gleam from the stats as I don't own her myself, so no first hand experience.

    Japanese Cruicers versus British.

His advice about trading HP only really counts for the tiers VIII and up. Lower tier RN cruisers might get access to the heal as early as tier IV (I think, or was it tier III already?) but from tier VIII (Edinburgh) onwards, the heal becomes obscenely good: On your Leander, your heal repairs 143 HP per second and is active for 28 seconds ( so theoretical maximum of 4004 HP). Fiji heals 157 HP per second for the same duration (theoretical maximum of 4396 HP). Edinburgh heals 728 HP per second for 20 seconds (that's a whopping 14560 HP maximum!). Don't have the Neptune and Minotaur (yet) so I don't know the exact numbers for those and I'm too lazy to search for it right now (feel free to do if you want to know the specifics) but I can only assume they get slightly better heals than Edinburgh each.

    Team Kill but not

I presume you were pink before that game, yes? If so, you need a couple clean games until the pink goes away and the number shows approximately how many such clean games you need. If you weren't already pink, then I've got no bloody clue what happened there.

Eh, the higher muzzle velocity of the guns used on the Littorio class was overall considered a design flaw. High shell velocity meant flatter arcs meaning less effective plunging fire (this one would be largely irrelevant ingame as the flattter arcs and faster shells would be an advantage instead), but they also reduced barrel wear (again irrelevant) and (importantly for the game) reduced the accuracy. Nice flat arcs and fast shells would be nice, but I'd also expect nasty dispersion and trollishly bad sigma to make up for it.

    Karma and report bombs

Question: Is it true that the report system won't consider more than one "Misbehaviour in Chat" report per person against any single reported player? If so, why can people dump more than one report on a single person anyway? I just got rage report bombed (presumably because someone didn't like getting set on fire, instantly put out the fire, only to get set alight immediately after for an easy Witherer) and whilst I don't care much about the number itself (and getting rage reported is always hilarious), it does show a rather blatant misdesign that could be so easily fixed to avoid people getting report bombed (and whatever possible consequences that might bring along I might add). Just don't allow more than one report of any category (Bot, Plays Poorly and Misbehaviour in Chat) against a single player. Bam, worst that can happen is a salty kiddo reports a person once in each category, but the total is still -3, not -7. Would also help compulsive reporters to not blow their load prematurely and have nothing left for second rounds

Depends on the ship. Amagi for example has turtleback armour and becomes nearly impossible to citadel at very close ranges. North Carolina has her citadel at waterline level so if you aim above the waterline and the range isn't long enough to have your shell arc down, then you won't hit the citadel. An Iowa on the otherhand has her citadel well above waterline so aiming slightly above it can still get you citadel hits (though that seems to be changed soon™). I suggest browsing the tech tree and checking the armour viewer. It will tell you where you need to aim to get those juicy citadel penetrations.

    HMS Hood Teaser

Let's not open that can of worms and talk about German pronouns. That matter is complicated. If we'd talk about the given names only, then female is correct. If we're talking about the ship and its class then the class takes priority in choosing the pronoun and then it's neutral ("das Schlachtschiff") or male ("der Kreuzer") but never female (nevermind, there are female class pronouns "die Fregatte/die Korvette" ... I somehow forgot about those). Just German things. We build our language like we build our tanks: overengineered, complex, prone to breakdowns and maintenance heavy.

    Bismarck

Well, she has lower caliber shells than equally tiered BBs (380mm vs 406/410mm) lower shell weight and comparable to lower Krupp value so yeah, she has a bit less penetration overall.

    Aoba Vs Nurenberg

Were you penetrating and doing no damage, or bouncing? Nürnberg beltarmour is still strong enough to bounce 203mm AP shells if they hit it at autobounce angles. Was he broadside or heavily angled sailing away from you?
  14. Had a cheeky game in my Hatsuharu today (decided to continue my grind until I get the Akizuki at least, I love muh pew pews): Slow start into the game because the enemy left C cap completely uncontested (went to A and B instead ...), so I got the cap for free, then turned towards B and tried to ambush the Bayern. WASD.exe however was activated, so he dodged my first spread. Starting to be an entirely unorthodox IJN DD captain and began shooting. Set him on fire and the second spread of torps hit, caused flooding and that was the first kill of the game a bit later. B was getting awfully hot though, so I set my sights on the flank where the enemy team was pushing with 5'ish ships along our original spawn. Put torps in the water for the Scharnhorst. First three topedoes missed due to him slowing down a bit, but they hit the Kirov in the background instead. The other three torps landed two hits though and that was a Double Strike. Then continued playing like a gaijin captain and killed the South Dragon with muh pew pews, then had to smoke up because a Leander had for some reason snuck north of C and was suddenly very close. Blind torpspread in the rough direction of the last prediction line, turning tail and *BOOM*, yup, naturally he straightlined straight into those to give me the Devastating Strike to complete the Kraken Unleashed set. Then hounded the last remaining ship, got another torpedo hit and the flooding along with the fire from muh pew pews won the game and my sixth kill. Weekly mission complete!
  15. Met TheIdesOfMarch93 on the red team as we were both sailing our Blyskawicas. He recognized me after I started a Poi-Train in chat. Sadly he was working on the other side of the map so I didn't get my chance to nefariously break the requested cease-fire

    New mechanic?

Rather than implement obstuse new mechanics, why not just do it that if you hit and penetrate armour on the conning tower, it counts as citadel penetration? Might do something about the bow-on meta ...

Constant CTDs after patch 0.6.1 (continuing with 0.6.2)

So, in addition to the frequent CTDs (today it was three), I also had the pleasure of the game freezing up midmatch. First my camera froze up and despite me still seeing enemy ships moving across my screen, I couldn't move my camera (in aim mode, couldn't revert back to normal third person camera), though apparently I could still fire my guns ... though naturally not hit anything. I had to kill the game via Taskmanager, then restart it, then when I saw the North Encounter test map loading I had to kill the game yet again (because the las time that happened I was stuck in infinite loading, the actual map the match was playing on was Trident!) and when I finally got back into the game (thankfully I had popped my Belfast smoke just seconds before the freeze up so I didn't get nuked for free damage) my UI was utterly f*cked up. The minimap more transparent than usual and not showing any of the islands and the consumable countdown was also going bonkers with wrong countdowns and active timers. Here a screenshot where you can easily see the minimap screwed up: 'twas very much a joy to play, truly. Now, if WG could tell me exactly what changed in patch 0.6.1 that suddenly turned my game from working near flawlessly into a crash orgy, that'd be real great. Because my PC didn't change and WoWs is the only game/program that's acting like this! Because crashing when clicking on random UI elements in port or right before a battle, whilst surpremely annoying, is not that much of an actual problem since I can restart the game and be back with at worst a couple seconds lost. But that crap midgame, now that's gamebreaking!

    Bogue isn't fun anymore

Considering the Bogue is going to get eviscerated with the upcoming CV changes, the necro is oddly appropriate.

    Bogue isn't fun anymore

Only way to play Bogue is stock setup (1/1/0). Your fighters are extremely potent (tier VI fighters) and if you know how to strafe and kite enemy fighters even an AS Bogue won't be much of trouble. besides even if you can only sneak one torpedo bomber strike past his fighters and land a halfway decent hit, you'll do more damage in that one attack than he's likely to do the entire game with his single dive bomber squadron. Against Zuihos your fighters just plain crap all over them and if he's using the air superiourity setup (which he shouldn't, but for some reason I'm seeing a lot of IJN CVs with AS setups lately ...), same applies as above, just strafe and kite them. Against tier IV CVs? Pffft ... Bogue 1/1/0 setup with manual attack and strafing skills is very powerful and will easily wipe the floor against anyone that can't strafe. Not quite as much damage potential as a Zuiho, but a Zuiho that lost its fighters can't exactly strike much when you've got your fighters just waiting for his strikecraft.
  22. Those 6km stock torpedoes, bruh. I still maintain that giving the Hatsuharu 6km torpedo range with its stock configuration is just BS gameplaywise. And you can't even upgrade the torps easily, because you need to get the hull upgrade first. So yeah, 14k XP to grind in a torpedo boat that was less torpedo range than surface detectability (I could consider myself lucky that I had a 12 point captain with Concealment Expert on it but even that only brought my detectability down to 5.8km). The guns are nice, but they're certainly not punchy enough to make up for the hilarious torpedo range. Stock Hatsuharu is just 14k XP of frustration. Thankfully I have a couple +100% XP camouflages lying around so I got just over 14k XP in two games. Also managed to get the fourth stage of the weekly mission done in that game Also had the pleasure of having my first ever Independence (only upgraded Fighters, otherwise stock) game against an AS Ryuujou. An Air Superiourity Ryuujou ... who does that??? Anyhow, he did a poor job at it. I mean, he did manage to shoot down all my 11 fighters, but not before I got 22 of his and 4 ship kills.

Put Imperator Nikolai on sale please wargaming.

Being slow isn't that much of a hindrance if you just go full steam towards the enemy. The ship is tough with a bow armour that is ludicrously bouncy and nearly nonexistent superstructure to spam HE at so you can afford to just go full steam ahead into the ball of enemies. The first three guns can also rotate freely towards the front so you can easily just reangle your bow to a target with only your rearmost turret having to turn 180°+ to get back on target. The Nikolai also has massive broadside weight 4x3 305mm guns which is unmatched at tier IV and V (though at tier V ships like the New York make up the difference with higher calibers, though yet again, the incedibly bouncy hull of the Nikolai can tank those). It has slower rate of fire with 35 seconds reload, but its guns are also very, very accurate (2.0 sigma value). Combine that accuracy with the broadside and that makes it pretty easy to land massive hits. Cruisers in particular are incredibly easy to delete since you have so many accurate guns to just smack a steelwall right into them. The ship is also quite stealthy. The fact it had no effective AA at all was pretty much the only thing that kept it in check (provided there was a CV in the game) as airstrikes were the only real threat against a halfway decently played Nikolai ... now with CVs being relegated to autodrops only (which are easy to evade, even in BBs), the Nikolai has effectively no ship that can match it unless someone gets the drop on it (something which isn't easy if the player is competent).

A plea to my fellow forumites

What is the difference between saying someone is playing wrong/bad or calling them a term that implies the same? Both are negative feedback. Lastly, I'd argue the terms is less derogatary as much as it is dismissive. If a player asked for advice on how to play battleships, or seems willing to accept advice even if he hadn't asked for it himself, people don't tend to call them BBabies. It is when players insist on playing badly when they're called BBabies and those are the kinds of players who don't pay much attention to reasonable advice or arguments anyway. BBabies are the kind of players that don't care what you or anyone else say anyway, so there's no point in trying to appeal to their reason or sugarcoat your words. Could you just categorize specific playstyles in a more neutral language? Yeah, you could say call all aggressive BB players BBP1, all passive players BBP2, etc. pp.. But the point remains that a term such as BBabies implies a specific, negative image that is reflective of the performance of those that are called such. All in all, it's a very descriptive term to use as it naturally evokes a certain expectation. Using others terms that don't imply anything to minimize the chance of someone taking offense to them might just end up in a plethora of technical jargon than new players will find hard to understand. Other terms like tryhard for example do the same for a subset of player (behaviour) that is typically considered beneficial. A tryhard will do whatever it takes to win, such as only using highly competitive ships and sticking to proven and effective gamestyles, even at the expense of what other people might think would be more fun (or less frustrating to play against when on the recieving end). In the end, it's all about how the term is used. Do I call someone a BBaby because I don't like people playing BBs? Or do I call someone a BBaby because after a couple well structured posts on how to play battleships to their strengths and how to best help your team are ignored? Precisely.
