  1. To be entirely fair, the biggest part of the RN fame is a relic of its British Empire time that ended roughly with the 20th century as other navies started to catch up in terms of naval engineering and strategy. They were still the most powerful navy up until the end of WW1 but no longer sustained any reputation or respect alike that which it commanded during the sailing age. The time period that this game covers is long past the heyday of the Royal Navy and whilst they were still significant and rightfully deserve a spot, it's not any more special than any other historical navy in the context of this game's timeframe. I'm always happy to see more lines and imho the RN should've been implemented alongside the KM as the third and fourth nation, followed by the RM and MN ... long before any VMF line chockfull of paper designs made it into the game.

    British battleships incoming

If you're already watching this thread I have a suggestion: Change the overmatch mechanic so that it's impossible to score citadel penetrations after overmatching a previous layer of armour. That would for one help with cruiser survivability since random shells overmatching straight through the bow or aft will no longer take off a third of a cruiser's HP. It would also migitate the surpreme status of the Yamato as it wouldn't lolpencitadel other BBs straight through the bow. Normal penetrations alone already deal a good chunk of damage anyway. Secondly, increase BB accuracy and reduce BB dispersion so they longer benefit from the shotgun effect. It's a real PITA to be in a cruiser, actively turn hard to dodge an incoming BB salvo only to have a single stray shell, that went nowhere near where the enemy BB player actually aimed to hit, overmatch and citadel you. If BBs were more accurate, it would increase the reliability of evasive manouvers a good chunk. It would also increase the skillgap between bad and good BB players (those who know how to aim, predict and compensate for evasive turning). Thus a good player would hit more reliably with more shells which in conjunction with the above suggested change in the overmatch penetration mechanic would offset the loss of damage by lolpen citadels as you get more hits with regular penetration damage instead. It would also generally make BBs more reliable and help good players punish bad play (say showing broadside to a BB ...) by landing more shells when it counts. Alternatively, or perhaps until such a time something like my proposal could be properly implemented, how about limiting the MM to a maximum of three BBs per team? Because the currently typical MM of five BBs (seriously, I almost exclusively see 5 BBs per team every match!) is quite simply too much. Especially when you end up with just one or two cruisers per team ... which naturally every BB wants to sink.

If Sub_Octavian is to be believed from the recent Q&A, radar will be a thing for RN BBs. But exactly how much stock should we put into the guy who says this and then follows up with what can only be a barefaced lie about investing most of their ressources in solving the BB overpopulation. "Yo guys, I hear you guys are having a BB problem. So here you get some more BBs with radar even."

    Detonated twice today ...

Okay seriously, what in the bloody hell? Why does my Khabarovsk keep f*cking detonating all the f*cking time? That's now 5 detonations in ~50 games and 3 detonations out of ~10 Khabarovsk games. The f*cking hell!?!? Is my name on some WG blacklist or something? Let's see if we can make it two for two today again ...

    Royal Navy Battleship line suggestion

My grind through the NC was some time ago but clearly you're talking about the stock NC here right? Because the upgraded one does 28 knots if I'm not mistaken. And the Nelson class never got faster than 23 knots ... and this would be the top configuration of the ship, not the stock.

The extreme nature of the difference could however be precisely because the low sample size can't yet average out deviative performances from potatoes vs skilled players. Just saying.

    Ship for Tier VI ranked

Think a slightly stronger Kirov at tier VI. That's about it in a nutshell.

I wouldn't be citing stats yet. The sample size is too small to give a representative average. Kaga is still having the new ship syndrome.

Still, Nelson is too slow to share a tier with fast battleships/battlecruisers. She's a relic of the WW1 battleship design philosophy and simply wouldn't work out against NCs, Amagis and such competition. And Minotaur works because she has amazing dpm (something BBs don't have) and access to smoke to work that dpm in relative safety.

For DDs, the Farragut and Gaede are solid picks. The former is the best brawler, but the Gaede with the 150mms can pack a nasty punch to use as an ambusher, also it has the benefit of being natively able to stealthtorp. And then there's the premium Anshan which is essentially just an uptiered Gremy. For CAs/CLs I think the choices are mostly between Clevelandn Budyonny and the premium Molotov. Leander might work, but that can be a bit iffy as her AP dpm isn't nearly as good as the Fiji at tier VII so I'd have to see how she stacks up in a 7vs7 environment. For BBs, Fusou and New Mexico (premium Arizona) offer the heaviest broadside, but Bayern and the premiums Warspite and Mutsu can overmatch other BBs at the expense of broadside weight. CVs is Ryuujou, hands-down. AS Ryuujou is more versatile than AS Independence as it retains some striking power whilst having good fighter cover and balanced Ryuujou simply outdamages a balanced Independence (and strike Independence will get shut down by any halfway competent Ryuujou CV who knows how to use fighters). Balanced Independence is still nasty, but assuming equal player skill, my bet is on the Ryuujou. I', not that good in CVs though, so take what I said with a pinch of salt.

KGV would make for an odd spot in a regular tech tree. I think that ship is better served as a premium due to its uncharactersitic caliber size for it's more likely tiering. Also Nelson at tier VIII, nope. A ship that only does ~23 knots has no business in tier VIII. That ship is tier VII at best. And HMS Vanguard is limited by its caliber size again, so I would rather put that into tier VIII and have the HMS Lion in tier IX and possibly the G3 design or similar at tier X.

Hah, looks like you got roughly as far as I got before I called it quits on that video
  16. Yeah ... no. Sometimes MM throws you a mean curveball, but unless MM somehow put all the potatoes on one side and all the skilled players on the other, no match is unwinnable by default. Deal with it. Or git gud and try to turn that match around against all odds. Because those kinds of victories are the sweetest!

    Detonated twice today ...

Oh look, detonated twice today again. What are the odds? No seriously, what are the odds? I should play the lottery considering how lucky I am with fun and engaging game mechanics. I really think I would win something. Not Juliet Charlie signal flags of course because raisins or whatever ...

Kaga is in the premium shop

It really doesn't. If you predict the enemy dodge correctly you're ALWAYS more likely to hit with more torpedoes with a tight spread and if the enemy ship doesn't dodge you're also ALWAYS going to hit more torpedoes with a tight spread. Wide spread is useless if you know what you're doing and objectively inferiour to using tight spreads. Same as autodrop vs manual drop on CVs.
  19. Aotearas

Kaga is in the premium shop

So regardless of using wide or tight spread you always hit the same amount of torpedoes? Teach me your secrets, master. ... Your other ships aim and fire without your input after clicking on the ship once? Let's be perfectly clear here, the CV analogue to using your guns on any other ship is the manual attack where the player actively aims the drop. Autodrop is more akin to using your secondaries where you just click on a ship once and let your AA do the (bloody bad) job of hitting it. If anything has to go, it's the autodrop. That or WG can try and implement a real aimbot for every other class that aims all by itself with the player only having to click mousebutton left. Let's see how much better that would make the game.

"GG EZ": do we need cross team chat ?

Pfft, insults are for those who can't let their skills speak for them. I also like to chat with fellow forumites when I see them even if they're on the enemy team. Or with people who made a good fight. Or maybe answer questions someone asked in all chat. Compared to other MP games, WoWs is surprisingly civil so I doubt it's necessary to get rid of it just to block out a couple bad eggs here and there. Besides, you can block users if they're too obnoxious (until they figure out how to spam their F keys at least ...). Also, trashtalking clanmates in all chat when you see them on the enemy team is like a participation requirement. I'd be a sad scrub if I couldn't.

    Detonated twice today ...

The question would be, why forego an always useful module that increases the HP of your primary armament in a DD that will be shot at and is thus prone to losing its primary means of dealing damage to get a lowered chance to detonate which is only ever useful in the statistically low odds of a detonation roll? Going by the typical 1% detonation chance, I'll have utterly wasted that upgrade slot for 99 out of a 100 games. Conversely, not using the magazine upgrade and instead going for the other upgrade means I'll have full use of its effect in 99 out of a 100 games. I'm not ranting about detonating. I'm complaining that detonating twice within the 24hr cooldown means you don't get the compesnation of signal flags. Be my guest and calculate the chances of detonating twice within less than 10 games and then you can tell me exactly how necessary it would be for me to specifically gear my ships with anti-detonation measures as opposed to other, more reliable bonuses. The simple fact that RNG can screw anyone over with a detonation (even with the Juliet Charlie flags!!!) but the compensation that is specifically designed to help against that mechanic is locked behind a 24hr cooldown. I was incredibly unlucky (though this is the second time I detonated twice in a day), but that's not the point. WG shouldn't lock anti.frustration measures behind a 24hr cooldown unless they also intend lock the chances to detonate to once per 24hr. One the EU server you can't even purchase a Juliet Charlie signal flag package like you can on other servers, so detonating is one of the very limited ways of getting those signal flags. People simply can't afford to kit their ships out even if they wanted to, they just can't sustain their signal flag reserve. And that's quite simply BS.
  24. Aotearas

    Detonated twice today ...

... what sort of backwards logic would that be? Next thing you'll tell me that torpedoboat DDs shouldn't use the tier IX+ torpedo upgrade because it increases the chances for torpedo tubes to get knocked out. And have you even looked at my original post in this thread about removing the 24hr cooldown on receiving the 10 Juliet Charlie signal flags when getting detonated? Because that's what this topic is about.

    Epicenter mode is still crud

I don't care much about what you say. I care about what you say you're going to do, which as a was pointed out is a real dickmove. And no, it's not us who should jump ship just so you can continue being a douchecanoe. Just because you invested money doesn't mean you're entitled to do whatever you want. Besides, chances are others you meet ingame also invested money. But you don't give a sliver of regard towards those when you just ragequit at the start of a game just because you don't like the gamemode. Stop being an egotistical jerk.
