Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aotearas replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Now this actually looks interesting and not unlike something I had mentioned on the sides when talking to mates on TS about it. Essentially a gameplay version of battlecruisers. High mobility, high manouverability, but less HP and less armour (plays more like a super cruiser than a proper BB). A ship that trades HP in fights and relies and proper angling and positioning win against standard battleships, but can use a superiour heal to get back a good chunk of HP it traded with other ships. Obviously radar should still not be a thing and I'm naturally worried about what that means for cruisers yet again (as if we really need MORE cruiser killers at this point), especially when those RN ships still have plenty large enough caliber to just overmatch cruiser armour left and right ... But at the very least the concept seems to be something new rather than just make tougher BBs with more and bigger guns! So that's at least somewhat encouraging. -

Don't need Priority Target. If I'm in a battleship, I know that I'll be shot at and I'll see how by the volume of fire. In a BB, I can tank plenty and take action accordingly. And I'm typically not bothered much by DDs. I'm fairly confident in my predictions where DDs are and constantly move around so I'm not easy to hit to begin with, plus I like to put myself where it isn't easy to get a good torpedo volley in my sides. In german BBs with hydro I'm even less bothered. Plus the double catapult fighters with the direction center perk make for a pretty good hydro replacement and whenever there's no CV around I use them in that capacity. It's easier to get within brawling range when you're harder to spot, especially at the start of a game where it allows you to get into a position without getting instantly spotted compared to not running CE. Besides the german BBs want to be played at midrange and an opening volley from an unspotted BB at ~13km can be devastating. Plus it's much easier to get into secondary range if by the time they spot you, it's already too late to turn about (without fearing a BB salvo into the ensueing broadside if they turn). But again, I'm mostly talking about the Bismarck and Tirpitz because I stopped my german BB grind pretty much right after unlocking the FdG in favour for other ships (Des Moines and Moskva to be specific). -
So how about WG removes the 24hr cooldown on recieving the Juliet Charlie signal flags after a detonation? Because if RNG decides to f*ck me that hard, I'd damn sure like to at least get the anti-detonation signal flags for it too! That or simply remove this blasted nonsense already ...

Bismarck Secondary Range not improving

I personally prefer adding Concealment Expert. So my build is: Catapult Aircraft Direction Center (only worthwhile tier I perk) Adrenaline Rush (turret traverse is already solid on KM BBs) Super Intendant (dat heal) Advanced Firing Training (duh) Manual Secondaries (le duh part deux) Concealment Expert (yay concealment) Preventive Maintenance (since you'll be using the auxillary armament module to keep your secondaries alive, plus your AA as bonus ... the captain perk will keep your main batteries alive) Alternatively I have toyed with the thought of dropping Concealment Expert for IFHE (which also applies to secondaries) and thus give the 128mm secondaries enough HE pen to damage the typical 32mm hull armour and not just the 150mm, meaning more actual damage potential for the secondaries, but I haven't tested the build since I dropped grinding the KM BBs for now. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Today was easily one of the worst days in a long time. Teams full of utterly retarded players (and yes, I mean retarded as in mentally incapacitated!), AFKers and the shittiest luck I've had in a long time with what seemed like laserguided BB shells and an instance of such stupidly bad AA RNG that I strafed an enemy Saipan's fighters (no AS skill, three fighters per squadron) with my Hiryu fighters (AS skill and Dogfighting Expert for the bonus dps) on four different occasions ... and never got a single f*cking fighter kill, whilst his fighters utterly waste mine in a simple dogfight (with the odds firmly stacked in my advantage due to captain skills). Just WTF WG? What-the-actual-F*CK!?!? Seriously, the kind of crappy luck and RNG I'm facing these last couple days is making me think someone at WG flipped a switch on my account or something. It's just so abnormally bad right now, it's not fun playing anymore ... So yeah, I had perhaps three good games today ... this is the most noteworthy, mostly because the enemy CV had a strange hate-boner for my Baltimore of all things: No idea why the Cv thought it'd be a great idea to try and drop on my Baltimore like this. Maybe my divisionmate's tagging his fighters within my AA to help out in dogfights made it personal but eh, I'm for once not complaining about having had some CV attention. Didn't get to do much damage (bad fire RNG ... as is typical these last days) but help with three caps so I got neat base XP (much needed to finally get the gun upgrade!) and plenty credits. -

Ran across elastion in his Shiratsuyu ... for some unfathomable reason the team lemming-trained to D (Two Brothers) and leaving him entirely alone, so I had to actually turn around in my bottom tier Cleveland (even though I spawed close to D) just so he has some form of backup. I don't think he noticed us -
Not quite the same as I'm not lagging or suffering ping spikes, but when I play CVs I tend to get visual artifacting (typically a green-blue'ish checker board pattern on the edge of the display) when moving my camera around the map (as you usually do tracking your different squadrons). First I thought my GPU might start crapping out on me but I never get the same issue playing any other class or any other game.

What is the point of an anti-frustration measure when it's not applied to each time the game frustrates you with a random detonation? Getting detonated is neither fun, nor engaging for the victim, it's nothing but pure frustration. Ergo it sounds only fair if the victim gets a compensation, right? Now, why limit the compensation, but not the detonations? WG could either remove the 24hr cooldown so every time you detonate, you get the signal flags as compensation no matter how ludicrously unlucky you were to detonate multiple times a day ... or they could simply limit the maximum number of detonations a player can suffer to once per 24hrs. Either way would at least achieve parity. I'm all in favour of just getting rid of this mechanic. But quite frankly WG isn't going to do that, because raisins. The least they can do is to tweak the mechanic so that the victim gets SOMETHING out of it. Just blowing up and getting absolutely nothing for it, plus the understandable frustration of getting blown up because RNG said 'screw you' is not going to motivate a player to keep playing. But keeping players engaged is precisely what WG wants and needs. Which is why it baffles my mind that the cooldown exists to begin with. Looks like a nasty oversight. Other rewards are limited (because those can absolutely be farmed consistently!) and no one bothered to make an exception for the detonation "reward". Possibly even because they thought that the chance to detonate more than once a day is so statistically low that they needn't bother. But quite evidently, that chance does exist and I'm not the only one who suffered like this, which is why I'm speaking up about it. And if anyone wants to argue, I'll just ask this: What benefit does the player get from the cooldown? What benefit does WG get from the cooldown? On other servers I might understand the limitation as a heavyhanded incitement to buy the Juliet Charlie signal flag bundle that you can regularily find in their shop (100x Juliet Charlie signlas for ~2$), but there is no such offer on the EU server at the very least, so WG isn't even making a bit of bucks on the side with this. It benefits no one and conversely hurts both parties as players get unnecessarily frustrated and WG is definately not going to improve their player retention rates by this. Either way WG might want to handle this, but the situation needs to change for the benefit of everyone!

And exactly how does that change the fact that even if I used them, by the time I run out of them and detonated twice within the 24hr window I'd not recieve any compensation? Example: First game of the day, you detonate and get the 10 signal flags. You use them and don't detonate in the next ten games. But on your next game after those ten, you detonate again. This time no flags. Doesn't sound mighty right, now does it? And detonations aren't something like a Kraken, Confederate or High Caliber that you strife to achieve. Detonations are something most people rather prefer to avoid. So why should there be a limit to the "rewards"? Blowing up randomly is frustrating enough, but not even be granted the anti-frustration reward because you blew up randomly one time to many is a stupid oversight.

I never contested that Epicenter isn't universally liked. I'm saying that ragequitting and leaving your team one ship down at the start of the match is a dickmove. I could also just label it in the technical terms used in the terms of service that you agreed upon when installing the game if that is more to you liking though: Suiciding your ship is unaccaptable behaviour and downright griefing your teammates by deliberately lowering their chances to win the game. That is a violation of the game's terms of conduct and grounds for actioning your account. And if you're too dense to understand what I and others have been saying the entire time, that's not my problem. But trying to victimize yourself whilst blatantly ignoring the consequence you're spelling for your team in light of your intention to just ragequit every game of Epicenter in that fashion is as ludicrous and hypocritical as it's unfair for anyone you leave one ship down in such a match. That is by definition a dickmove and if it offends you to be called such, then I strongly suggest not behaving like you've stated you will. There's nothing to misunderstand here and your incessant denial and either unwillingness or incapability to see that simple fact isn't doing you any favours if you intend to keep up that facade.

You don't need to project quite so heavily. Not everyone needs Google to know words with a couple more letters than you're familiar with. And I can return your last question right back to sender: which part of "you're not alone" don't you understand? If you just ragequit and throw your ship away, there's eleven players on your team that you just let down. They might not enjoy the game mode same as you do, but I can assure you they enjoy playing that with one ally suiciding even less. And your precious sugarcoating about "tactically spotting" is nothing but the flimsiest, most transparent excuse to try and justify your contemptuous behaviour. It is precisely because you know how much of dickmove it is that you try to veil your actions like this. The least you can do is admit that you're just spiting your allies with such behaviour but you're not even capable of that small bit of respect to your peers. An unapologetic hypocrite is what you are and I can only encourage everyone unfortunate enough to witness your BS to report you. The sooner the merrier and preferably ending in a permament ban if that's the only thing that can get through your dense mind (or not, but at that point it wouldn't matter, it would stop either way).
-
The word isn't made up. You can actually find it in the Oxford dictionary. And yes, you're ragequitting. Like a petulant child that doesn't get to play his favourite game you stomp your feet, throw your toy in the corner and run crying about the mean, mean game mode, ranting about how you're never going to play that again. That is kindergarten niveau ...
-
Do you people even read? What part of the 24hr cooldown and detonating without getting any compensation for that did you not understand? And who do you think set that limitation?! Do you understand exactly how limited a ressource those flags are? They aren't sustainable by design, you only get them by detonating. Guess how many of those flags you get by using them to not detonate? Outside of getting lucky with containers and whenever WG feels like rewarding them as a part of a weekly mission, if you play more than a couple games per day you run out of signals pretty fast.

Met a couple forumites today. TheIdesOfMarch93 in his Yamato, loppantorkel in his Des Moines and El2aZeR in his Des Moines aswell. The game with El2aZeR was sadly a particular letdown by most of the team that first derped right into the A cap on Okinawa (a.k.a. potato cap), died there and no one went to B (a.k.a. the single most dominant position on this map, doubly so in a Domination game). So me in my little stock Baltimore had to go there and contest the cap all by myself with only marginal support against several battleships, several DDs and a couple cruisers ... all whilst our BBs were going full herp-a-derp mode. 2.3kk potential damage doggedly holding up half the enemy team by my loneself for more than half the match duration until the enemy found their balls to rush a single stock Baltimore and I eventually died. -
I'm just fundamentally opposed to BBs having radar.

Something left over from last night (was a bit sleepy so I didn't post it yet) ... quiztime: Can you spot it? Ehehehe ... Was busy working the typical 1/2 line push (they never learn) but the enemy DD was smart enough to not pick a fight with my Khabarovsk (don't know why ...). So yeah, he was a bit of an inconvenience. So until the very end of the game when an enemy Yamato was threateing our base and I dropped torps on it ... *pow* -> Devastating Strike ... on the aforementioned Yuugumo that was never once spotted the entire game. And the leftover torps also finished the Yamato for a neat Double Strike. "Random torp kills are best torp kills" The proceeded to get two reports when I got back to port . I have absolutely no idea who that could've been ... -
HP is one thing I can't refute and seems low for tier X (though we don't know exactly how tanky the ship is, plus the actual HP numbers are going to be subject to balance changes until the very end of the ship's finalization). Two heals is only one less than normal iirc and the premium heal and captain perk increases that number by one each, which makes a total of 4 (or a bare minimum of 3 if the RN BBs somehow only ever got a single base heal). Plus we don't know if the heal will have the same properties as the usual BB heal. Could be something like the RN CL monster heal and thus having a lower base count.

I read your post and I understood perfectly what you were saying. Including XP as a reference point doesn't change the fundamental poblem however, if anything it adds another layer of complexity to the equation as you also have to factor in the different weight of actions in terms of XP gain. More XP and more damage still doesn't mean the only thing dragging your winrate down are bad teams. I see many passive BBs getting good damage and XP simply by being the last ones to die and getting easy kills on damaged enemies, but they lose the game all the same. Context is what gives numbers their meaning.

You'd be surprised how many people's definition of fun also involves winning, or conversely not losing because a toptier ship was derping around aimlessly. And do tell me more about how many would bear with potatoes in hightiers. I think you haven't had yet the dubious pleasure of having a hightier CV in your team that's either a flat-out bot just circling his aircraft over his CV, or only marginally better a potato that never learned how to manual attack and is using autodrops only plus never strafing with his fighters, or scounting, or actively trying to intercept the enemy CV's strikes, or try to engage enemy fighters as they are keeping your team's DDs spotted the entire time (which renders them largely useless unless they're pure gunboats, in which case it only lowers their life expectancy a good bit). And if you think that might sound mighty inconveniencing, add an actually competent/skilled enemy CV player which can and WILL absolutely wreck your entire team in absence of effective opposition as he's just happily farming damage. In short: no, as you go up the tiers you'll find it increasingly frustrating to see ships that could make a huge impact just dillydallying around and throwing winnable games away by sheer incompetence. To be entirely fair, not every game is as bad as the example I gave, but when that particular breed of misery crashes your game, I can almost guarantee you won't be feeling especially tolerant.

Free XP exchange is legitimately impossible due to the different XP economy between the two games. Last time this was discussed, WoT players said you earn a good deal more XP (and thus free XP) in WoWs than in WoT. And an arbitrary exchange rate would just make people pissy anyway. Gold transfer however, there's nothing to stop that from happening other than Wargaming's greed. And the argument that players could just boost their way up the tiers with gold is nonsense. elite ship XP to free XP conversion requires elite ship XP in the first place. Even with all the gold in the world a new player couldn't just boost to tier X without playing an equal XP's worth. And Wargaming isn't stopping from newbies buying tier VIII premium ships the moment they started an account either so that argument simply doesn't fly.
-
Average damage alone isn't an accurate stat though. Damage value isn't equal. 10k damage to DDs is much more valuable than 10k damage to a BB due to the HP disparity. Getting high average damage when you target mostly BBs isn't nearly as important as getting the same average damage on mostly cruisers and destroyers. If you know what ships you tend to focus in the ship whose stats you're checking then you can compensate, but just loking at the raw numbers can be deceiving. Context is everthing.
-
Vanguard at tier VIII with supercharged guns would work rather nicely. And Nelson would work at tier VI if they tweak the softstats for the guns, otherwise I'd say she's tier VII material at the very best. If Nelson were to be tier VII, then the KGV might do as a premium because chronologically it wouldn't make any sense to put her a tier lower than the Nelson class. Also, for the love of balancing and the gameplay meta, do NOT give battleships access to radar, please. What do we have cruisers for if battleships get the best guns, the highest HP, the best armour, secondaries that can shred DDs, hydroacoustic search and now even radar? If that powercreep were to continue then the french or italian BBs would get defensive AA fire and smoke, plus whatever fancy new stuff the russians would get ... Just no, please!

Yo MaxxyNL, I got something you'll like... Nyahahahaha~ Those are the shortrange torpedoes btw, I just can't stand the terribly low speed, low damage longer ranged ones (not that the shortrange torps do that much more damage ...). Mercilessly ran down that Gneisenau for the Kraken. -
Damnit, now you jinxed it. There's a reason why I don't have the Hood ...
