If you don't like lots of text ... I got bad news for you. I did put a tl;dr version at the end of it though if you don't want to read all of it (though I recommend reading it in its entirity, obviously). Statistics are statistics. But you always have to analyze them in context to give them a proper meaning, otherwise they're just numbers. So if you Atago shows 20k damage right now, but your recent average damage was much higher, then that shows that your previous performance was so low that your alltime statistics haven't recovered yet and are still playing catch-up. We can still check your recent statistics to see if there are any drastic changes, for example over the last three months you played ~300 Atlanta games with an average damage of 20k. That is only 1k more average damage of your total 766 games that I can see. It's rather safe to assume that those stats reflect your current skill. And with only 20k average damage, which is quite a bit under the server average, we can safely assume that when it comes to damage dealing, you're not doing too well. I could cite a couple other statistics aswell to cement that conclusion but I don't think that's necessary nor particularily helpful to keep a somewhat productive discussion. As for possible reasons why people don't play some ships for some time, maybe they're grinding something else right now? Or maybe they just don't feel like playing a peculiar ship like the Atlanta much at the moment. Or perhaps the total numbers of games played are so low because they don't have the ship for so long yet? Your question/challenge to lup3s to explain himself why he has only 56 battles played in the Atlanta is without proper context again just a meaningless number and whilst you can argue that it's a much lower sample size to your 766 games to make accurate comparisions in a statistical sense, it does already allow to read a vague trend. And that trend is saying that's he's playing the ship better than you. Or conversely, that you're playing the ship worse than him (or many others). That's what statistics can tell. Now, they WON'T tell exactly why you deal so little damage, so it wouldn't be fair to entirely dismiss your arguments, but it does shed some context (important, as I had mentioned earlier) that people can use to judge your recommendations/critique on, i.e.: if someone with worse performance is saying one thing, and a player with much better performance is saying another, it's typically a wise decision to place your trust in the latter, particularily if their statements collide. Now onto the other point you made: certainly there are some people that get so obsessed with stats that they rather not play a ship anymore in fear of bad games dragging their stats down. People rerolling with new accounts specifically to increase their average stats aren't new. But as you noted, those are a very small minority and I can tell you that lup3s isn't one of them. So you can safely take his criticism without insinuating he's unhealthily obsessed with stats and that he's only using them to base his arguments with some verifyable numbers. If you don't like those arguments because they tell that you're bad and thus your recommendations might also be bad (which is what lup3s said!), then it isn't the argument that's the problem. tl;dr version: Stats need context to determine specific meanings. Conversely, stats can provide a contextual background. Arguing stats doesn't equal obsession. Your stats are bad. This leads to the conclusion that you play the ship bad. THIS leads to the conclusion that your advice on how to play the ship might be bad aswell and others might want to look at advice from people whose stats show they perform much better in the ship, because that also implies their way of playing the ship and their recommendations thus regarding are better.

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy
Aotearas replied to Loran_Battle's topic in Clan Recruitment
Why, everyone is free to like or dislike stuff according to their preferences as long as they can maintain civil relations to those who think otherwise. Live and let life. No need to Neon Genesis Evangelionize someone to the path of anime if they don't want. And if we find other things we have in common, we don't need be anime kyoudai to form a united front against Equinism. And he already grasped the most important part about Waifuism anyway (that being that yours belongs in the trash). And the New York is still just a fat bathtub someone threw into the ocean but failed to even sink properly so the military weaponized it. Kongou is the one true tier V BBeauty: Also, on the topic of waifu: And because I just feel like it:- 3,079 replies

What I'd really love to see is a monthly lottery by WG. Players can gift doubloons, premium time, premium camouflages, port and reserve slots aswell as premium ships to feed into the jackpot and one or multiple lucky chaps take it each month with a chance to win big (a.k.a. the entire jackpot). Players with premium stuff that no longer want to play the game can donate to that jackpot. Banned players will have premium content dumped into the jackpot aswell (no use having premium ships etc. lying dormant on a banned account where no one can play it).

Aside from the issue of a security risk as to pass on an account to others he requires your email adress at the very least. Chance upon the wrong buyer, be a bit careless and you might hand over more than just a WoWs account ...

This Cleveland is a real piece of crap!
Aotearas replied to MongooseHUN's topic in General Discussion
Ah, the old no-lifer argument. Because clearly playing lots or playing well is mutually exclusive with doing anything but. How much older than 40 years are you? Are you perhaps going senile already to think your nonsense here is in any fashion an adequate reaction? Or are you simply a first-class hypocrite to calling others "child" when you present such infantile behaviour? This is why we can't have nice things ... -

The thing with Manual AA is if you spec into it, you don't really need Defensive AA which means you can use HAS instead, whilst still retaining formidable (though not quite as devastating) AA performance whenever you do run into a CV game. Would mean though that unless you drop CE or AFT, you can't use BFT and DE both ...

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

The sad thing is I believe you even without a source, because that is the kind of crap Sub_Octavian has been saying in various forms and/or giving the equivalent impression when answering questions about some balancing decisions. -

Why do people think that the Gremyashchy is OP?
Aotearas replied to theonlymaverick's topic in General Discussion
The Gremy was OP due to not suffering the increased RU detection bloom, which meant the ship could very comfortably invisifire ... at tier V. Whilst also having solid concealment, very good gun power and good enough torps to stealthtorp aswell. Operating word in that sentence is "was". I wouldn't be surprised to see the Gremy become available in the premium shop again. And the Fuujin/Kakikaze/Kamikaze R is essentially the same thing backwards. They used to be more or less clones of the tier V Minekaze, but after the IJN DD line got reworked and the Minekaze/Mutsuki got worse torpedoes, Fuujin & Co. kept the old (superiour) torpedoes and are now performing better than the current tier V IJN DDs. They are also no longer available in the premium ship due to that. -
Oh, that is droll. Are you really just saying your entire diatribe about me requiring statistical evidence to back up my argument (conveniently ignoring the points (dare I say ... facts?) I made about the armour thresholds) was made without any empirical evidence to the contrary on your own? Oh boy ... you go on then and collect your firsthand experience first, then come back with your conclusion to have another go if anything (or nothing) changed about your opinion.
-
Alright, you're not even trying. I have supplied the necessary answer but you don't want to acknowledge it. At this point all you're doing is ignoring my argument to dismiss my conclusion. Which by the way still isn't "you must use IFHE" but an answer to chazwozza's "IFHE is a waste on the Atlanta" and his "IFHE only benefits 152/155mm" just in case I have to remind everyone. It's not, but I had already acknowledged the trade-off in fire chance in earlier posts. Which you would've noticed had you read my comments, but it appears I am too demanding to hope for people to actually look through the entirity of an argument before jumping in ...
-
Nice to see you ignored the majority of my comment: Didn't you see that? You considered that I'm ignoring those BBs because it is irrelevant to the point I'm making because with or without IFHE, nothing changes? And I never once said you can't damage tier VIII+ cruisers without IFHE. I have said however the only part of those ships you can damage without IFHE is the superstructure (barring fires of course). Get your arguments straight before crying foul.
-
Have you actually read my explanations? Have you read the comments I was responding to? Alright, once more for the slow/lazy people that couldn't be arsed to read: Without IFHE, you have a HE penetration of 22, meaning you can only damage 21mm of armour or less. That means that you can not damage any part of a battleship except its superstructure from tier VI onwards. You also can't damage any part of a cruiser except its superstructure from tier VIII onwards, even at equal tier cruisers the Algerie and the Yorck already have substantial hull sections of their ship immune to your HE thanks to their 22mm and 25mm hull armour respectively. ^Facts With IFHE, you have a HE penetration of 28, meaning you can damage up to 27mm of armour. That means you can damage tier VI and VII BB hulls and all higher tier cruiser hulls that you can encounter in your MM bracket (sole exception being tier VIII and IX IJN cruiser central deck armour, though you can still damage the central hull). ^Facts Only DDs and RN CLs as targets remain damageable regardless of IFHE or not. ^Facts Or in short: You're doing fine without IFHE if you are toptier, albeit BBs are largely immune unless they're tier V. As soon as you're not toptier however, your damage potential drops sharply without IFHE. You need any more or will you tell me once again that I don't know what the word "fact" means? I'd argue it's the other way around. If you're toptier you get least benefit from IFHE, whereas as soon as you get uptiered, you start to see the 25-27mm armour threshold everywhere. It just comes with target priorization shift. If you're toptier with IFHE, the targets you can damage most reliably are BBs (slow, big and most of the hull gets penned), if you're uptiered the most reliable targets are cruisers (because BB hulls get immune). Doesn't mean you should suddenly only start targeting cruisers (duh) but in the event that you're forced into a gunfight, without IFHE any any tier VIII+ cruiser will just roflstomp all over you. With IFHE you can make it a fight and whilst you're still at a disadvantage, it's not crippling as in literally only being able to shoot at a cruisers superstructure.
-
And no one says you're not allowed to continue as such, you can play as you want. But your statement on IFHE being a waste on the Atlanta and the reasons you cited for it are plain bogus. That's a simple fact. IFHE is very much a strong pick as an Atlanta captain skill, fact. It's also pretty costly, fact. You can accept that and elect to still not use IFHE if you feel like it, or you can keep digging your heels into the ground and defend a wrong argument, but that's not going to help you or any other players here looking for helpful advice.
-
Plenty of 25mm armour that I'm seeing whenever I play a tier VII ship. Tier VI and VII BB hulls and tier VIII and IX CA hulls (only the central deck armour on the IJN cruisers at 30mm can troll a but the hull at the sides is still 25mm). German CAs with their 27mm hull armour are also beat by the 28mm HE pen aswell. Without IFHE you'd even struggle with a couple tier VII CAs like the Yorck which has central hull plating of 25mm or the Algerie with 22mm which will just provide immunity against non-IFHE 127mm HE (as HE will only penetrate an armour value lower than it's penetration threshold (i.e.: 22 HE pen will only damage 21mm of armour or less, not 22mm armour or more). The only instance you will not see a damage increase is against tier V BBs and tier V/VI and some tier VII CAs, i.e.: with you're toptier all the time. Tier VII MM is lucky, but not quite that lucky to count on seeing poorly armoured enemies only. You get uptiered and suddenly without IFHE all you can do is damage the superstructure which will inevitably saturate dropping your total damage potential sharply, after which you're entirely reliant on fires to damage any enemy that's not stupid enough to give you a neat broadside at close enough range for your 127mm AP to work. A 10% RoF doesn't mean much if the majority of your shells still shatter for 0 damage and a higher fire chance is an unreliable damage source. You can get lucky and have lots of fires, or RNG kicks your balls and you get next to none. I'm not saying IFHE is a definitive must-have skill. But it does offer a massive damage increase, even if you trade fire chance for it and it's costly at 4 skill points. At this point everyone has to decide for himself if it's worth for them, depending on whether they have a specialized Atlanta captain to spec entirely for that ship alone, or if they share another captain (my 19 point US CA captain naturally doesn't have IFHE but it still works quite well on the Atlanta). But the idea that IFHE is wasted on this ship as chazwozza said (or his uninformed statement about only 152/155mm caliber guns benefitting from the skill) is something that's quite simply factually incorrect and what I have been arguing against. To each their own preferences as to how to build the captain and use the ship, but I prefer it if people decide on correct informations, which I tried to provide and correct those that were false.

... welp, you just showed how little you understand on that matter. There is no such thing as 27.3 HE penetration and the native HE pen isn't 21 either: 127 / 6 = 21.66~ which is rounded to the closest full number = 22 =/= 21 With IFHE we increase the HE pen by 30%: 21.66~ x 1.3 = 27.51 which is rounded to the closest full number = 28 =/= 27.3 Not sure were that supposed datamined HE pen sheet draws it's data from and what strange math they use, but that data is wrong. Incidentally, so is your argument about IFHE on the Atlanta. Its 127mm guns benefit by the same magnitude as the 152/155mm caliber (which is as great deal!) because just as with those calibers in their MM bracket, the Atlanta gains enough HE penetration to defeat an ubiquitous armour threshold that it encounters in its MM bracket. The only viable argument you have is the lowered firechances which hits the Atlanta plenty hard as she already has such a low base chance anyway, but the increase in direct HE damage from shells that will now damage ships when they previously shattered for zero damage more than makes up for it and trading reliable penetration damage over a loss in RNG fires is a good trade. IFHE isn't bad for the Atlanta as I just explained. For an Atlanta specific captain, I'd go: Priority Target - 1 point (1) Adrenaline Rush - 2 points (3) Demonition Expert - 3 points (6) Concealment Expert - 4 points (10) IFHE - 4 points (14) Advanced Firing Training - 4 points (18) Preventive Maintenace - 1 point (19) The Atlanta doesn't require Expert Marksman because her turrets already rotate incredibly fast. She can also do without Super Intendent as she doesn't lose a valuable heal and already has infinite charges of Defense AA Fire so the only loss is one charge of Surveillance Radar, which hurts a bit ... but with Demolition Expert minimizing the fire chance loss to 1% you're fire setting capacity isn't completely crippled in addition to the raw direct damage increase. Alternatively if you find yourself not using Radar too often and can do without fires, you can switch back to Super Intendent (perhaps in case of a future US CL line that will want IFHE for its 152mm caliber batteries and the additional heal in the hightiers). You can also consider to just straight-up boost your gun power and use Basic Firing Training instead for the 10% RoF increase (though the AA dps bonus isn't very helpful as CVs avoid Atlantas like the plague anyway) at the expense of fire chance and consumable count. Advanced Firing Training is incredibly helpful for the firing range increase (the added AA range is just a bonus but not too important for noted reasons). Concealment Expert is a no brainer. You can try to play without AFT to free up 4 captain skill points and invest them in one of the 3 point skills and perhaps drop Preventive Maintenance to free another skill point and invest the last two into a 2 point skill.

Who shall lead the Moderatorship of the Ping to vanquish the possessed USB Drives in the Firewall of Drive D:oom? Or am I being too obscure here, is something more recent perhaps more relatable? Fake datamining news! The Server's been colluding with russian bias! The developers can't help if they get emailed with tier enlargement and Nigerian Navy emails.
