~10ish km spotting distance if concealed in smoke for heavy cruisers (I assume ships like Des Moines, Zao, etc. will have similar values) seems a bit too excessive. Some of those ships are meant to be played close to the action and smoke is one of the few ways those ships can actually make full use of their potential if there isn't a convenient island around and high tier map design isn't exactly the best at that. I'd say you can comfortably put that spotting distance to something around 7-8km and see from there. The nerf for BBs using smoke seems fair, they have plenty enough strengths as it is but the cruisers could do with a bit love. Smoke is one of the few things a cruiser can use to actually play the objectives without getting smacked by an errant BB cruising relaxed somewhere on the B line.

Thanks to new informations, I'll have to take everything back I said here. This isn't smart, this is stupid as hell!

If he set a ship on fire, got pink from that, it is possible he died from the reflected damage without actually killing the allied ship. The game then credits his own demise as -1.

Just had my Atlanta detonate with the first HE salvo that hit me at the start of the game. Now I have nothing better to do than express my utmost appreciation for that amazingly enjoyable game mechanic until that game is finished. Man do I love detonations. Just warms my heart dying from full HP to a handful HE shells. The enemy played so incredibly skillfully, I mean how could I've ever anticipated him actually hitting me? Man I really suck at this game, I should probably just uninstall. Can't even properly dodge HE shells, I'm just a dead weight for every poor team cursed with me on their side. I wish I was as skillfull as to detonate others. But it was such a fun and engaging moment that I just can't help but keep playing. Dying randomly is so thrilling, I'd love to do nothing else in this game. WG, can you please increase the odds of detonations so that a lowly scrub like me can also do it? I know I'm just too bad for it, but please, equalize that skillgap a bit so I can have more fun and engaging moments like these.

USN. Teaches how to use guns, teaches how to use island and smokes to your advantage and how to ambush (cuz low tier torps have short range, no easy stealthtorping). Guns are also more reliable even if they lack the insane alpha of a torpedo spread, thus making them more consistent even against good opponents.

Did you even read the context of my comment before trying to tell me what I already know? The person I was responding to claimed cheats such as the manipulation of shell dispersion (handled entirely serverside) and detection (again, handled entirely serverside). We know that. WG has explicitely told us and there is not a SINGLE cheat package around that modifiers those aspects of the game (and wouldn't you think that if they could, they would?). So yes, the kind of cheats that person had claimed can't happen. They're not possible. It's NOT just unlikely, it simply doesn't work and we have plenty empiric experiences to back that up. If you wish to oppose that, then how about you don't try to silence me just because I don't happen to be capable of 100% guaranteed certainty and the source code to point to the specific lines at to justify my arguments. If you wish to argument against what is reasonably accepted because there is literally no available evidence to the contrary and everyone confimring it, then just go out and say how you think it is: everyone else is lying ... and then provide your goddamn evidence. Burden of proof my friend! So unless YOU can do that, YOU can't make any claim to the contrary and make demands of others! You do know shell flight time is a thing in this game, right? Just because you're not spotted at one specific moment doesn't mean a guy that saw you fifteen seconds ago can't have shells coming your way that will hit and sink you by the time you've already been undetected. Or you were sailing close to an ally who in turn was still detected and attracting shots, but the enemy sucked at aiming and their shots missed so bad they actually hit you instead of the intended target, happens. And you just cried hack, or what do you suppose you're arguing for the entire bloody time here? Don't bother responding to this post unless you can back up your position with evidence. If you insist I shouldn't be certain about how the game handles specific data sets despite what experience and the developers themselves say, then I insist you provide evidence to the contrary before you come back to me. And if you can't, accept that your argument is untenable (and quite possibly simply wrong!) and stop arguing in circles or what-ifs.

No, that has nothing to do with the fuze timer. The reason why RN CL AP shells can penetrate ships at a much sharper angle is because they have better penetration angles. The same way the US AP shells also get better penetration angles (though not as good as the RN CLs) and they have normal fuze timers. Seriously man, get your facts straight! Penetration checks involve caliber size (overmatch yes or no), penetration angles (bounce at angle or no) and penetration performance (penetrate the armour or shatter). The fuze timer has NOTHING, exactly ZERO to do with armour penetration. It is solely responsible to determine at which point AFTER the penetration the shell is going to explode (i.e.: will it detonate inside the ship or not).

There, embedded. Little do they know ... that WG won't buff the Conque.. MEGAZAO!!! They're going to nerf the normal Zao instead, because it's a cruiser. You seen the damage that Zao did to his Conque.. MEGAZAO? Totally OP, needs nurf! Also, I'm old. I read the video title as MEGAZORD the first time I saw it.

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy

I kind of like the first draft (more horizontal) a bit better. The pose looks more like a fish floating in water. The lower version looks imo too much like he's standing on his caudal fin, appears a bit unnatural.- 3,079 replies

If you're being annihilated in a BB, you're doing something wrong, like being out of position, isolated, showing broadside, instantly repairing a single fire or all of the above at the same time. As for the other three lines of your comment I refer you to this:

Free Bonus Code for Marblehead and 7 Days of Premium Time
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
Don't you come at me telling me I don't know what gambling is if you evidently never bothered to check yourself: Gambling requires the participant to gamble with stakes, something of value that he can lose, i.e.: money. No one is required to spend any money or other valuables to get these codes. The hell is that attitude? So just because getting lucky isn't guaranteed people shouldn't bother? I'm (not) terribly sorry that I couldn't guarantee everyone getting a free premium ship, portslot and a week of premium time. I wish to (not) apologize to bringing this to the attention of as many people as possible so people can try their luck and get some free stuff. I shall (never) repent my sins of wanting to give something back to the people of this community that I enjoy*. Seriously, work that stick out your butt. I'm trying to make some people happy .. all you're doing is being a sour killjoy for no good reason. *plenty ... not all people -

Free Bonus Code for Marblehead and 7 Days of Premium Time
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
Yeah. Is that any reason to shun those codes that require a bit more effort than copy&paste a link? And it's not gambling, you don't lose anything of value. It's still RNG but if people couldn't handle a bit of that they wouldn't be playing this game, would they? I don't know what your problem is here, but I don't think it's in the best interest of the community to go b*tching about free stuff just because a bit of luck and time effort is required. If you don't like it, fine. Others did and were rewarded with a ship and premium time that would otherwise cost them money. Take your unappreciative attitude someplace else. Plenty people in here would disagree. -

I believe that's everyones' own decision to make and considering I read of many people in here that did get the code without spending more than bit of time, it was well worth it for them. But if you insist, next time I see something like this I'll just shut my trap and not tell anyone, happy? -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Sorry for double post, but the image limit per post screwed me. Ibuki doing Ibuki things: Kiting, some more kiting, a bit kiting on the side and as dessert, hmm ... kiting! Was a slow, crunching affair that game that really came down to a one kill point difference upon time-out ... all the while our Gneisenau kept whining in chat about how this is a loss, how everyone is a premium n00b and the usual fatalistic blabbering after he died. Got pretty annoying to be honest, @fun6utzi eventually tried to get him to shut up by assuring him as long as our div is floating we got this (even got jumped by the other DD as he was busy typing in teamchat, that could've gone mighty wrong). No pressure, we got this *sweats profusely dodging shells from three BBs that I'm busy kiting* ... Ended up with ~1k HP and heal left so I actually had to just stop firing and run for the last two minutes because we couldn't afford to lose me ship (or rather the points that come sinking me) but in the end we pulled through, won and showed that whiny defeatist what it means to clinch a game. Would've actually been a lot less tense if I hadn't had such bad flooding RNG: Three torp hits on ships that had just recently used their DCP to put out the fires I kept setting on them, but zero floodings ... also just barely missed the Witherer -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Today was a good day. Very little salt (from my side at least) and a good number of enjoyable games, even a couple close ones (and those are always the best!). First a bit of french AP: A-hon hon hon! You think you're safe in your smoke, oui? Not with me around mon ami! Most of those citadel hits were on the Mogami and Fijis as they were happily firing away from smoke, with me just as gleefully taking potshots, making that a menage a trois. I very much like the Algerie. Nothing particularily special about her, but a solid allrounder! If the rest of the line plays more or less the same, I might even start to grind it in earnest! Then there was this intense Z-23 match: The hell does a Yamato creep up around the islands, 5km away from a smoked up DD, then instant-extinguishes a single (!!!) fire only to catch a previously launched torp neat on the nose, suffer a permanent flooding and the embarrassment of a smoked-up DD just pouring AP into his broadside ... nevermind what the rest of my team did to it. If I had made such an eggregious mistake, I would've sunk from the unbearable shame alone! Did yolo two other BBs a bit later and (predictably) died doing that (still got a good couple torp hits that crippled the previously rather healthy Yamato that tried to get our flank) so I considered that a decent trade ... though considering how the rest of the match turned out to be for the next couple minutes I would've liked to play that a bit more cautious because I genuinely feared throwing a DD away might've impeded our chances to win considering how we bled some ships right thereafter as the team struggled to finish those two flanking BBs. Even got to put a salvo into @Flambass but a red Minotaur right next to him persuaded me from giving chase ... -
I like to believe the responses espousing their erronous assertions humble them to such a degree they feel themselves shamed of their misconduct and recuse themselves to reflect upon their attitudes. I also like to follow that up with a good glass of a preferably strong alcoholic beverage, because we all know what's really going on here ...

Imho detonations are a game mechanic that has no place in any form of competitive environment. It's plenty frustrating as it is to detonate (and doesn't feel particularily rewarding when you do it to others, at least for me), but I could make do with it in randoms (though I demand an equally impressive animation when I blow up, not a demeaning *poof* !!!). But in game modes that are (allegedly) about skill, such as Ranked or any form of clan wars/team battles for the future, detonations should be disabled from the get go. I have plenty of Juliet Charlie signal flags (mostly thanks to the reintroduction of signal flag SCs) but I hoard them for whenever I play Ranked (as little as that is ...) and for future clan battles (which I definately intend to participate in with my clan!). If I didn't need hoarding those Juliet Charlies for when unlucky detonations can decide games, I would even use them in randoms on ships that are prone to detonations (DDs) and the rate at which I randomly explode would very much decline to less salt-inducing levels. But until such a thing were to be, my opinion is that detonations are a BS game mechanic whose random nature is just a big F U to whomever gets unlucky with RNG and I very much doubt that anyone would honestly shed a tear to see it go!

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Aotearas replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Our Scrub division ran into @Flambass again, this time on the enemy team. He wasn't blessed with the best though (Yamato crept within 5km of my DD, then put out a single fire only to catch a torp on the nose for a permanent flooding, nevermind my AP hammering his broadside) ...
