Obligatory MM/BB overpopulation complaint
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
"I have 23km range, why should I get any closer?" -
As often as the idea has crossed my mind, the fact RN CLs simply can't take a hit on chin makes playing without the smokes untenable. I've seen a handful very brave Neptunes and Minotaurs with radar ... a couple seconds before they got nuked. Out of the dozen or so ish times I've seen a RN CL with radar, I've only ever seen exactly one instance where they didn't get instagibbed shortly thereafter and that was only because that Minotaur turning tail and running for it the moment he got spotted, with barely even daring to fire at anything himself. I believe he survived for half the match, but considering his position on the teamscore at the end of, I'd guess he didn't do much in the way of damage and his guerilla radar didn't help win his team considering he was forced to run and thus couldn't even use the full duration of his radar. If the Neptune and Minotaur got the RN BB treatment with nearly impossible to hit underwater citadels, I might dare try radar on it and use the RN superheal to trade damage as I ambush ships with the use of radar, but until such became a thing, I'll continue being mildly surprised until the brave soul inevitably goes under the waves.

Actually that was a deliberate addition, since before they changed it, radar only spotted targets as usual, but the render/visibility distance harccap still applied and even if radared, you could still only see ships within 8km distance.

How about divebombed contact fuze torpedoes? -
Yes, using radar during a cylcone also extends the rendering/visibility range for the ship using it to cover the radar range (but only for the duration of the radar and only for the ship using it). Essentially the same standard advice applies, try to stay clear off radar cruisers if you can at all avoid it.

Alright everyone. Statistically proven, verifiable BB overpopulation, even admitted by WG themselves, is nothing. Everything is going to be fine. Please disperse. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Best game performancewise I had today was actually a loss ... but my Des Moines was also allowed to win something today: For a change the critical concentration of potatoes was on the enemy team. Played rather passive except for the poor enemy Z-23 who got overconfidence-checked for ~16k by our Yamato I think, though he wouldn't have loved that much longer with my Des Moines 8km away from him anyway. The other DD actually wasted his time capping A instead of B and from, then on out the enemy team was effectively trapped behind B. The a cyclone hit that allowed me to sneak right through the middle into B, put myself next to the little channel, pop my Radar and give the full HP Moskva on the enemy team a dose of SURPRISE DES MOINES GOT YOUR BROADSIDE ... farmed over 70k in AP citadels and pens on that poor sod whilst he was rather obviously panicking at that sudden fusilade pounding his sides, he barely managed to deal more than 8k damage in return, mostly because he wasted good time shooting AP at my nose-angled bow. -

For one, it makes a solid difference in cruiser survivability if you have less BBs shooting at it. Keeping an eye out on 2 BBs is relatively easy. 3 is manageable if they're in roughly the same direction. But 4 or 5, one of those will get a salvo of unnoticed and a single salvo is all they need if you're just a teeny bit unlucky with RNG. Secondly, those other two slots will be filled with other ship classes. That could be DDs (means more prey for cruiser players, ergo more rewarding to play that class), that could be a CV (that class of ship is terribly underrepresented in the mid and hightiers, optimally there should be a CV in every game, after all the game is balanced around the inclusion of the class), or just more cruisers. I have my own set of balancing tweaks that I'd recommend to improve battleship, cruiser and DD balance (one aspect of which is essentially the same as yours, buff BB accuracy among other things to achieve more consistency), but quite frankly, manipulating the meta with soft changes meant to encourage certain playstyles and discourage others is proving to be an ardous process, if it even works at all (weekly repair cost thread says hi). A simple hard cap to forcibly cut down BB numbers per match is at this moment the only solution that I can think of to effectively steer the class populations back into the desired meta fit for the asymetric class balance system we have in WoWs. From there on out other tweaks and balance changes can be explored and applied if necessary (I reckon a lot of current gameplay issues might as good as cease to exist as soon as we no longer have BBs taking up ~42% of the ingame population (and that 5 BBs per team is only a softcap, I've seen games with 6 BBs per team, half the ships per team were friggin' BBs, no one can tell me that isn't f*cked up!). -
The teams today ... what have I done to deserve this? 1,9k base XP on a defeat. Bit more than double the base XP of the next best guy on my team. Metric ton of damage, four ships sunk, even a base cap. But drag this sorry team to victory? Impossible ...

Naw, Akizuki is straight-up tier IX material. Buff a couple softstats like the rudder shift, acceleration/deceleration and maybe give it the option to use Defensive AA instead of the Torpedo Reload Booster, golden! Then put the Super-Akizuki at tier X and find something to plug the hole at tier VIII for a full IJN gunboat line.

For first time installations (or clean reinstalls), the client first downloads the games basic files, then checks for updates and downloads those. No way around that as you need all the updates anyway to play the game.

I think the jargon you're looking for is "cowards". Unless of course you're heading straight into the enemy team's lemmingtrain, in which case turning about to whittle them down is a lot smarter than yolorushing right into their guns.

GZ test II or Graf Zeppeling testing elsewhere
Aotearas replied to SteDorff's topic in General Discussion
Pretty sure they do. Saw a Z-23 getting dropped by GZ I and it only took a bit over 1k damage, so I assume that would be one bombhit resulting in an overpenetration and the rest missed. Though I have to wonder, with a drop circle like what those DB have right now, a good drop and a bit luck with bomb dispersion RNG and a DD might end up losing a huge amount of HP. -

GZ test II or Graf Zeppeling testing elsewhere
Aotearas replied to SteDorff's topic in General Discussion
Oh good ... I thought I was just terribly unlucky (as was the Nagato on our team) and didn't want to go kneejerking from biased experience, but it seems like the current GZ Test I AP bombs are just as ridiculous as it felt at the time. I mean, I like anything that makes a good dent in BBs, but having essentially zero counterplay or damage migitation options aside from simply killing the attacking DBs before they drop? That's a weeny bit over the top. They benefit from the Dogfight Expert perk against vanilla CVs (whose fighters are tier VIII (upgraded), so a straight up 10% dps buff since the actual fighter performance characterstics weren't lowered along with the tier). -
Going to mirror what mostly everyone else said already: IFHE Without IFHE, the 100mm HE on the Akizuki will only penetrate 16mm or armour or less. Most DDs you'll face in your MM bracket have 19mm hull armour, so you can't damage their hull, only their superstructure. Bigger ships like cruisers, BBs and CVs are even worse for the Akizuki in that regard, most ships you can't actually damage with stock HE at all, regardless where you shoot and hit. And whilst the AP is deceptively strong for its small caliber (I typically deal a lot more AP damage than HE when I go gunning), it also means that any form of angling equals a drastic increase in bounces and shatters, up to the point that, yet again, even DDs can just angle and you can't deal any damage to them whatsoever (as the 100mm AP fails to overmatch any armour value you can find in your tier bracket). With IFHE, your HE penetration insreases to 22mm. Suddenly you can penetrate all DD hulls (except Khabarovsk 50mm troll armour) and all superstructures on big ships. The ability to damage other DDs with HE in the Akizuki can NOT be understated in its importance. You turn from utterly ineffective to a murdering dakka machine that will outdpm a Gearing in a straight up 1vs1 fight. IFHE makes or breaks the Akizuki.

Haven't seen a GZ II, but the GZ Is just outright murder BBs. Just got oneshotted in my Scharnhorst. A friendly Nagato in the same game also took 55k damage and barely survived the drop. Looks very much like if you can't shoot down enough aircraft before they drop, you're dead. -
False.

So, the raffle is done (the live entertainment in TS was glorious, Loran can prove it, such soundeffects, much intensity!). The names I had in the raffle: @Mars270 @xXx_Blogis_xXx @FlutterRage @Corvi @Reaper_JackGBR (there is no typo, you're looking at the pictures wrong!) and @Leo_Apollo11 @Live85 and @lup3s had opted out of the raffle, cuz raisins. Seriously, only eight applicants for free premium ships ... is no one from our clan reading this thread? Havaduck, I blame you and your ponies!!! Anyway, here's the lucky hat: Here's the names in the lucky hat: *epic sound effects of stronkerest quality* And here's the lucky winners: Vertical photograph, just to spice the presentation up! Congratulations @Leo_Apollo11 and @xXx_Blogis_xXx, I'll send you the codes per PM, enjoy! And for closure, here's all the sorry losers: Enjoy!- 3,079 replies

I personally don't condone dealing teamdamage of any kind (people who read through other TK threads might know my exact opinion on that matter, I won't bother elaborating it here) and think Morten should've simply not shot the other guy regardless of how much of an idiot that dude was being. But being pink and asking exactly how the system works is two different things and comments akin to "you killed a guy, accept it" are no answers, nor does the fact he lost his cool excuse you or anyone else any sort of moral superiourity to ignore his technical questions and just ramble on "deal with it". What YOU are talking about has no bearing on the conversation as Morten started it. He came here to ask how the teamkill system works, how penalties are escalated, etc.! The fact he is a pinkie due to losing his cool is his problem and just the starting point that triggered his curiousity about the details of the teamkill system. But along comes you and other people in here, who instead of answering the question, go on flaunting from the seat of a high horse how he shouldn't teamkill anyone. You are correct about that, he shouldn't. But that's not what he's asking, that's just what you're saying. I can assure you he understands the "why". He just doesn't care at this point anymore, telling him "well, you shot an ally, that's why" isn't going to change anything, nor is ignoring his actual question going to make him any more sorry about it. He wants to understand the "how" though. How is the status duration calculated? How come he's seeing seemingly false numbers on his detailed report? You can either answer that question, or you can ignore it, but you can't just declare that's not what the topic is about. You didn't make the topic, you don't dictate it's content. Morten was being a [edited], that's bad. Now you're being a [edited], that's bad. Want to be the better person? Don't be a [edited]!
-
Actually, he does, you're just not understanding his point or perhaps at this point don't even want to understand it. What he said is that people deal teamdamage all the time and that you can easily see for yourself by just looking at the battle messages in chat where it always says in pink of someone dealt teamdamage to someone else on their team.
