Of course the whole stuff is dramatized for effect ... it's a shonen manga, not a by-the-books cooking manual after all. The cooking presented in the series is genuine however, in fact the manga volumes regularily come with recipes for dishes used in the manga so one can cook them on their own. I'd advise to simply start with the manga (the anime did go a bit overboard with the foodgasm in the first couple episodes, presumably to catch the teenager audience with the fanservice). The series has a lot of fanservice (the artistic lead is also known for his hentai after all), but it's played rather well (foodgasm, duh) and can get hilariously creative at pivotal moments without showing naked skin at all. I also like how it's not just females getting sexed up (Gin you stupid sexy chef!). The nice thing about the anime adaptation is that it's incredible faithful to the manga, so you can just 1:1 start the anime from where you last read the manga or vice verse (manga is naturally leading ahead). I personally can't sing the series enough praise. If you don't like it, fair enough. But I wouldn't put it aside without giving it an exploratory read. I hadn't expected to get hooked like I did when I first came across the manga myself. I kept reading for the humour (the series does a great job paying homage and parodying other series!), the art and the truly mouthwatering food images and descriptions (don't read without snacks in reach!), but the series really grew on me as the characters kept growing, new character dynamics got introduced and the story really got going to drive the setting. Akizuki captain MUST be specced into IFHE due to the pecularities of the HE penetration rules. Her 100mm HE shells only have a regular HE pen of 16mm, meaning they can only damage surfaces armored in 16mm or less plating. even DD hulls at tier VIII have 19mm of armour. With IFHE you can beat that threshold and suddenly the insane rate of fire turns the Akizuki into a DD killer that can out-dpm even hightier DDs like the Gearing. But alas, you need IFHE for that, otherwise your HE will barely ever do damage at all. Don't be afraid of using the AP though, even against DDs. The bigger DDs like say the Gearing for example are wide enough for the AP to arm in the target rather than overpenetrating and the AP dpm is likewise insane. And if you don't have IFHE yet, even AP overpenetrations will do more consistent damage than the HE (though again, every DD can angle against the 100mm AP, but in reality barely any player has the presence of mind for that in a DD brawl).

Actually, they don't get cooking wrong. Would be curious to know from where you've heard that. Have you seen a couple episodes to make your own impression or are you talking from hear-say alone? Because I can tell you the series is pretty damn good. -

Right-o fellow windowlickers. I'm back from family vacation. Everyone of you should know what that means: I no longer have to fight with my father over his PC so I can play and I have some time to make up for. Also brought a new GPU along (GTX 970) so who knows, maybe that hardware change will help smooth the seas (HAH!!! As if ...). For now I'm still a bit fatigued from the journey back though. I find that any Khabarovsk game where you survive is almost guaranteed to end in a Dreadnought. Annoy the enemy team enough with your pewski-pewski and they will start shooting at you, at which point you just need to not sink and you got your Dreadnought. And since pewski-pewski is more or less 90% of what you do in a Khabarovsk anyway there's no need to play differently at all. At least that's how it goes for me. -

Khabarovsk. Basically every other game is a dreadnought. That little blyat farms Dreadnoughts like mad! In fact, second game yesterday with my Khabarovks and I got it. -
Problem is, what clan would want to take this guy in? Or conversely, would any clan that would want to take this guy actually be a good group to learn from? Not saying there aren't some good samaritans out there that have the patience and motivation to teach potatoes how to unpotate, but I haven't heard of an elementary school clan (might be an interesting community initiative though). TO's best bet would be to screw his head on proper, get rid of excess tinfoil and read through the newcomer's subsection. But I think everyone here knows how good the chances are he'd be doing that ...

Visiting my family over Christmas/New Year, which means commandeering my fathers PC (whenever he's not playing his games), so I'm barely getting many games. Really only playing to do the Aftvent mission and a wee bit North Cape campaign on the side (not much time to grind but better than not playing at all and having to grind everything shortly before it ends). Somehow I keep losing Karma over the days even though I hardly ever type anything in chat (Pa's keyboard isn't exactly comfortable to write for me) ... guess it's because of the games I'm having: Ngah-ha-ha Nuked a Bayern and a Mutsu with a wall of skill respectively, manhandled a poor T-22, citadeled an Emerald to kingdom come and almost completed the Kraken with the Bogue, but a friendly BB snatched that particular prize from under my shells. Had another chance at the Kraken thanks to a broadside Kirov 4km away from me (naturally I had AP loaded) but his lone remaining pal on the other side of the map died and ended the game before I could sink the Kirov. Bit of a shame about the denied Kraken, but at least I already had gotten one along with the siglan flag reward from an earlier Hindenburg game. -

Can also recommend 'Spice & Wolf'. For something else if someone is looking for reading material: 'Rokka no Yuusha' (don't know the English working title from the top of my head). A surprisingly complex detective-thriller (though you likely wouldn't guess so from a first look) set in a fantasy world. Also had a likewise surprisingly decent anime adaption which sadly suffered the usual single season syndrome. Last I heard no second season was planned though afaik the anime sold rather well even without cracking any records.
