In all fairness I do believe all warships fired exclusively armour piercing ammunition in ship-to-ship combat. High explosive shells were used for shore bombardment.

The port camera has a standard perspective and will default back to it after some period of inactivity. That's what you're seeing there and has been in the game for as long as I can remember. The default view however does seem to look a bit closer than what I'm used to. Do you use 1920x1080p resolution or something different?

Displaying Emblems/Insignias after being sunk
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
You were I was just nitpicking at the length of time that emblem stays visible and blocking the center of your screen. Also most definately going to veto allowing people to compose phrases to be used along with emblems. Custom images being used as clan logos/emblems can already be problematic enough if some joker decides to try and sneak something stupid (or outright illegal symbols) into it. But at least the workload of scanning through images for unwanted content can be simplified. Try checking phrases/mottos from two dozen different languages for nonsense like someone cussing the would-be victims mother in some obscure dialect. -
Musashi being toptier (i.e.: a tier VII to tier IX match) makes no change to tier VII ships at all. The single thing about the Musashi that sets her apart from other tier IX battleships is her ability to overmatch 32mm hull plating. But for tier VII battleships with only 25mm of hull plating the difference between 380mm, 381mm, 406mm, 410mm and 460mm is just a tiny bit more damage since any battleship caliber AP from tier VIII onwards can overmatch them anyway. And cruisers get blapped by battleships anyway unless they can autobounce those shells from their belt armour and at that angle any cruiser from tier VII onwards can autobounce 460mm caliber AP anyway.

Wasn't that dropped along with the new type of weaponry?

Didn't we get the RU DD split? Because I distinctly remember I have two tier X RU DDs in my port, not just one.
-
Pick another target than a heavily angled battleship? If you have nothing but an heavily angled battleship to shoot at, then you've either picked the wrong position to be in, or something else went horribly wrong with the match that has little to do with RN CLs not having HE.

Musashi is anything but idiotproof. That thing sits even higher in the water than the Yamato and the latter is essentially the only hightier BB left with a reliably punishable citadel. Let's see those BBabies show their side and watch how idiotproof that ship is after catching a BB broadside.

What I don't understand about that rationale is that WG could just as well target those new(-er) players with premium time. I mean if WG were to gate premium ships from new players until let's say they the unlocked a ship of equal class and equal tier (want to buy a premium tier VIII BB, gotta grind up to a regular tier VIII BB first), then obviously they could specifically market premium time to new players to speed up that grind. Plus imo having players grow accoustomed to premium time is probably the more stable income source for WG anyway because not every player likes the same sort of premium ships, but if they habitually purchase premium time, that's an easy sale. The infrastructure is there with the personalized ingame offers. And in the long run it's arguably better for player retention too. Regular players are less likely to encounter wallet newbies who buy a hightier premium without having a clue on how to play them (less frustration) and the people who buy the premium ships will at least have some sort of understanding of what they're getting into (less likely to be dissatisfied with a purchase).

Displaying Emblems/Insignias after being sunk
Aotearas replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
Would be nice if one could get clan emblems. And I'm well aware that "in yo face" is precisely what WG was going for and I don't have a problem with it, its just the length of how long that emblem stays there smackdab in the middle of your screen is overstaying its welcome by a couple seconds. I mean, okay, I got sunk. Maybe that guy even properly outplayed me, good for him. So I get presented his emblem, maybe it's even a neat looking one. But I only need a short glance to take all that in and any more than that is simply unnecessary and if you actually want to use your death camera to do something useful like spectate to help a division mate, having to look past the emblem is just a nuisance even if it's just for a couple seconds. Should be an easy enough tweak for WG to make, just decrease the time the emblem gets displayed. Maybe add a fade-away effect that makes the emblem transparent so you can look through it instead of it just sitting there blocking your view until it vanishes. I know I'm nitpicking, but it's something that simply stood out to me. -
Why would you want to automate the sweet nectar of vindiction. Don't be so impersonal mate!

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Today was a good day. I could scarcely belief my luck yesterday when I got a non-duplicate, but to get another one today, oh boy. I was already mentally prepared to suffer the worst possible RNG in my games following that container, but it never came (yet). Also had a couple really, REALLY nice games. This one was a real nailbiter and not decided until less than a minute was on the clock. It's a damn shame that I don't have replays enabled, because this was such a butthole clenching match whose tension I'm incapable of putting into proper words aside from HHHHNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG!!! @FlutterRage and @MrWastee can attest to that as they were in the division and I dare say without bragging that it was hands down us who won the game despite of our team disintegrating left and right. A true Epicenter match as it was conceptionalized with a nervewrecking cat and mouse game around the core of the circle. And once more a testament to how broken the RPF captain skill is, because a blind torpedo spread after the RPF indicator suddenly did a 180° turned out to nuke a rushing Aoba just in the nick of time before he could sink me (as he was well within my detectability range and he missed his forst salvo by hair's breadth, my torpedoes didn't give him time to try a second salvo). if it weren't for the RPF pointer, I would've been dead then and there. By all means I still should've been dead then and there had the Aoba not missed me (I was on less than 1k HP at that time, a single good hit would've been my end) and that would've left Flutter alone and outflanked, most likely resulting in our loss. But as it were, it didn't and Flutter's and mine positioning and spotting coordination was stronger than the enemy team's and we pulled that victory out of its hiding hole. What a clutch! Then there was this game in my Saint Louis: I would like to thank a very cooperatively broadsiding Neptune for those citadels. I also learned in this game that HE shell hits to the nose of a french cruiser apparently disable its rudder. So yeah, I will most definately spec my french cruiser captain into Last Stand. Also somehow ended up losing Karma ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We also had a very interesting game where we ended up facing two Scrub divisions on the enemy team. Completely incidentally I want to stress. Our division was just minding our own business and then the MM throws us a curveball. Forgot to screenshot but @MortenTardo, @FreedomNor, @Lanfear1981 and folks can confirm. We lost that game, but it was fun trying to hunt down fellow clanmates and friends. And lastly, the last game in my Akatsuki now that I have unlocked the Kagerou (had put grinding the IJN DDs (with the sole exception of Akizuki!) on ice for long time but I felt like playing them again): One of those rare games when randoms came together and worked as a team. I was initially disappointed that the Benson would abandon B in favour for turning to A and told him in chat I could use his help at B ... lo and behold he actually acknowledged and turned around. I also informed the team I would go straight through B and then head up to C. As it turns out, B was a free cap so I could rush straight up, once again ask fellow cruiser for assistance and, I know this sounds unbelievable, they acknowledged and turned around ... just seconds later we spot the enemy DD that had capped C (I actually detonated that poor sod, he did not like that one bit, got a bit salty even after I apologized as I'm wont to do because I despise that stupid game mechanic) and I smoked up the Galissionaire who was under fire. I think about two monutes later we had cleared the entirity of C and thus half the enemy team and then leasurely turned back to defend B from the other half that had gone to A. Blah blah, chase enemy DD from cap, torp BBs, radar New Orleans deds me, we win. Teamwork. In a bloody random game. -
Some Celldweller, a truly underappreciated talent.

Naw, obviously it just results in a flooding, duh. -
Also a superiour healing party. Glorious nippon heal folded a thousand times over (heals 1000 HP per second for 1000 seconds). Plus a 30°/s turret traverse and a special Defensive AA Fire consumable that increases the AA dps of those 13mm machineguns by 75.000%.
-
Yamato's citadel is already quite vulnerable and the Musashi sits even higher in the water, exposing the citadel even more. And you want to take this thing into secondary range and tank? Good luck.
-
Never underestimate in the ingenuity of idiots when it comes to their capacity to fail. It's no coincidence that it's practically considered impossible to make anything idiotproof.

A couple things. First, I finally unlocked the Zao (I know, I know ... bit late for the party). Good thing too, because I found the Ibuki to have been profoundly boring. Secondly: A non-duplicate!!! Thirdly, I completed the North Cape collection and the New Year's Raid for the Icy permanent camouflages. And last but not least: With premium, Gamescom camouflage (+50% credits), Zulu (+20% credits) and Wyvern (+50% credits) the Missouri made me a whoppin' 1,5kk credits in pure profit. -
Some mood music for WoWs randoms. 'Murica flavour, much freedom, such Star-Spangled Banner: Glorious Nippon sound, note sheets folded a thousand times: And for tryhard division play because you've lost faith in humanity and just want to see ships sink:

Heh, and somehow @Loran_Battle's team managed to lose the CoOp that he played in order to get an easy mission completion. Kinda says a lot about the playerbase if they managed to do that against that kind of AI bots. Loran, has your face already recovered its features after the epic facepalming? -
La Galissonniere just a bad ship or am i doing something wrong?
Aotearas replied to SovietFury43's topic in General Discussion
Wasn't a fan of the Glasscannonaire, grinded her out more or less completely playing the Aegis Operation (though she was plenty performant enough in for whatever that's worth, seems to have pretty good AP penetration). -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Aotearas replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Also met @Commander_Cornflakes and friends. Game was rather decisive though we did our best to struggle, but our CV was subpar and yours, ... well. Funny thing is as I pointed that out at the end the rest of my team went ballistic about me just blaming someone else for my failure ... despite me having had done more to protect allied ships from CV strikes than our precious CV did and coming up top on the team by a good margin but OBVIOUSLY it was all my fault for not carrying hard enough and the poor CV is utterly unrelated to the defeat.
