What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Hon-hon-hon Only my second game in the HIV, but I think I like it. Really does need a drawm out game to shine, but then it's a pretty nice damage dealer with a mean punch. The highlight of the game was the doublestrike at the end that came out of nowhere. As it turned out the speculative torps that I had thrown out next to an island in the general direction of the Montana (which had been unspotted for two minutes at that point, I just threw those torps that way just-in-case ...) actually did end up hitting the Montana and killed it just as I finished off the enemy Yamato. Took me a minute to find out what actually happened and it wasn't until I checked the detail report and confirmed that the Montana took two torps (I hadn't noticed it in the game as I was busy pounding that Yamato, oui oui oh lá-lá) that I realized those throw-away torps actually hit it. I was laughing for another minute straight Then I noticed in port that I got reported ... I proceeded to laugh even harder -
Republique turtleback - a fail or something planned?
Aotearas replied to elblancogringo's topic in General Discussion
Alright, just checked the Republique with the armour viewer. The mainbelt and turtleback do apparently not extend far enough below the waterline to reliable protect the citadel from below waterline hits. And from looking at the scheme, your angle is arguably the easiest to get citadels at because the shell coming from the front entirely ignore the mainbelt and turtleback as it comes in from a forward angle. -
Republique turtleback - a fail or something planned?
Aotearas replied to elblancogringo's topic in General Discussion
Don't know the exact armour values from the top of my head, but didn't El2aZeR say that the actual mainbelt armour and turtleback on the ship doesn't cover slightly below waterline? As for the joke, it was generalized. There used to be a time when ships like the Montana could be reliably citadeled by some CAs if they gave a flat enough side. If you want the joke to be more technically correct, just replace "broadside" with "sufficiently flat side". Spoilsport. -
Naw, Blogis doesn't usually go for the CV snipe. He's innocent ... this time. As for the OP, CV sniping is pretty transparent. You don't see enemy CV strike craft for some time, assume he's trying to snipe you and just recall your fighters back to your CV so you can intercept the strike when he finally shows up a couple minutes later. You probably don't need the fighters anywhere else anyhow. Meanwhile feel free to strike at the enemy ships with your aircraft. And CV sniping is almost impossible from tier VIII onwards due to the 2 minute DFAA on all CVs which means he's either not getting his full strike alpha into you (means you survive) or he'll have to wait for 2 minutes, which is plenty time for you to get your fighters back to deal with it. Hell, if you're not completely alone way back at the edge of the map, 2 minutes might even be enough for a helpful cruiser to get close enough to help with his AA too. There's little need to make CV sniping impossible via game mechanics, it's already an incredibly risky tactic to begin with that hardly ever works against a somewhat competent player. Only thing I can agree on however is that WG ought to just give ALL CVs the same DFAA so people don't even start getting a habit of trying to snipe only to fall flat once they reach tier VIII at the latest.

The ribbons for shell hits are counted correctly in realtime, it's just that if you keep firing and hitting in a sufficiently short timeframe, it will just keep adding ribbons to the current streak and only add to the total ribbon count after you had a pause in firing. Pretty normal. Play a couple more games in firehose ships like the Atlanta, Akizuki, Minotaur, Khabarovsk, etc. pp. and you'll notice it. In a particularily target rich environment with uninterrupting hit farming you could potentially get up to several hundreds of shell hits but the top ribbon counter will still sit at zero because the game didn't have a pause to tally up your ribbons from the current streak.

Zao AP at 16km steep enough to citadel. Oww yeahhhh That basically means the only CA left that might not get a sufficiently steep angle to citadel it would be the Moskva. Even Hindenburg AP developes quite a steep fall over range due to the light shells so I reckon it should do the trick aswell. And CAs like the Des Moines and HIV are just going to have a field day with it (how neat I just recently unlocked my HIV). Though I'd bet WG is going to fix that armour mistake reeeeaaaal quick. Can't have BBs get punished with citadels for showing broadside to CAs, oh no no no. -
You're in the wrong forum section, mate. And the wrong language subsection too ...

Keep the Gascogne away from the Richelieu, ram it if necessary, just keep it away. Enemy ships seem to move at 1/4 speed. Keep the Gascogne away from the Richelieu! Put a cruiser towards G10 at the start of the game, DDs will spawn there, no more than one though, would be a waste for more. Richelieu and Gascogne, keep them apart at all costs, TK the Gascogne if you have to!!! Aircraft spawn first from southwest (tier I fighters), south (tier I divebombers) and northwest (tier VIII divebombers and fighters from the GZ), south (tier I torpedobombers, lots) and northwest again (tier VIII divebombers and fighters again, from the GZ). Enemy CV (Adler) is northeast but surrounded by lots of cruisers, no point trying to rush him if you have ~15km range you can shoot it. Whatever you do, do not let the Gascogne near the Richelieu, seriously!!!1!11!!

It is ridiculously easy as long as people don't lag behing the AI ships just to farm planekills. After playing the OP three times I was already bored of it. Imho Narai was the best one (great payout and fun enough to play) so far.

Nice of you to assume that, but I actually played the OP three times, each time same spawns. So there's that. Anything else you want to fix for me?

Japanesse High Tier destroyers? A lost case
Aotearas replied to Concrete_Potato's topic in General Discussion
That is odd ... I mean I understand where that impression can come from, I personally seem to run into every potato on the EU server that's using the target acquisition mod (even on DDs, yes, I'm not joking!) and even end up dead because of that a frankly disturbing amount of times (a build that's useless in 99% of gameplay situations, but the one time it's actually useful it just happens to be me that's the poor sucker on the recieving end, seriously, a Fletcher with target acquisition mod!!!). But hey, if a Khaba or whatever else russian gunboat thinks he can just yolocharge your Shima, just run back to your friends screaming and let them do the deed for you. People like shooting at Khabas (or at the very least they like shooting at my Khaba, Dreadnought printing machine). -
The bloody hell!? I'll have you know I didn't check any of the patches in detail ingame (or anywhere else for that matter) ever since I unlocked my first emblem (moar shinies) so I literally never saw the new version of the bee outside the little ones under the forum avatars (and I don't even recall having checked out the original bee patch, I went for the seamine raccoon). I'm genuinely surprised I actually nailed the description when what I said was partly meant as a joke ... Also, why a baseball cap, mitt and throwing stance but with a football shaped thingy (blimp maybe) ? You don't throw a football like that at all. Or at least that would be an awful easy way to end up sacked as soon as the pocket fails.

Japanesse High Tier destroyers? A lost case
Aotearas replied to Concrete_Potato's topic in General Discussion
I trust WG about as same as the amount of money I can squeeze out of a handful frozen dirt. Just think those would be the most reasonable changes they could make. Who knows, maybe a dev is currently readint he forum fishing for ideas, might aswell give them a good one here and there. -
That's supposed to be a bee? I mean, looking at the other patches from forum users in this thread I can clearly make out the raccoon (though I'd had to look real close to see the seamine it's holding) and I can obviously tell the other ones are a bear and finally a sealion holding a torpedo, but a bee? This looks more like some dude in a red baseball cap, with a baseball mitt on one hand in the middle of throwing a (-n american) football with the other. No matter how hard I squint, I don't see a bee there.

Shima really only needs two changes: Get rid of the hilariously bad 20km torps Lower the torpedo spotting distance on the remaining choices a bit That alone should make the Shima into a great torpboat. She already has an amazing torpedo alpha (both in individual torp damage aswell as total number off torps she can throw out in one volley), just make the torps a wee bit more reliable and it should do the trick. If any additional buffs prove to be needed one can work from there. -

Lolwat? I can tell by that comment alone that you don't play the Khabarovsk at all, probably not even any form of higher tier russian gunboat DDs. RPF on Khabarovsk is a complete waste. You use those captain skill points to boost your guns and your ship's survivability. Hell, sometimes I already feel like an outcast for still using the concealment modification instead of the steering gears mod. 3. Besides, even though a Shima can't outrun a Khaba, most of the time she doesn't have to. Running after a Shima also means risking running into Shima torps. They aren't the stealthiest around, but a Khaba barreling at 48 knots towards 68 knots torps doesn't leave much in the way of reaction time and even if you'd use a full manouverability build the Khaba isn't exactly a graceful ballerina that can just dance around 15 torps in a heartbeat. Take just one of those and a full HP Khaba is suddenly quite killable by a Shima alone ... and if the Shima has any sense whatsoever he isn't going to run places willynilly, but run screaming back to his friends begging for help. And if those guys start shooting you, chasing a Shima isn't going to be your prime concern for long. And let's just assume you're in a full manouverability build (that means 9,7km surface detectability with camouflage), that RPF doesn't need to be pointing at a DD. What you think might be a squishy Shimakaze might just aswell be his Zao or Minotaur buddy and they'll still see you sooner than you see them. You can take a guess what a Khaba player thinks when he runs headfirst into a Minotaur, but I'll give you a hint: it starts with "s" and ends with "hit". Even if you use the concealment modification to get your detectability down to 8,7km surface (like I do), that's still not much of an improvement because by the time you saw what you're running into and started turning around you already drifted inside detectability distance and then it's good luck hauling [edited]the other direction. I'm not even going to consider a full stealth build (7,7km) or using smoke instead of heal, because at that point by all accounts we should simply be talking about an entirely different DD. You want subtle vodka, go Grozovoy. Maybe I'm not half decent in my Khaba, but that's my experience from sailing mine and being on the business end of those 130mm cannons in non-russian DDs. -

Japanesse High Tier destroyers? A lost case
Aotearas replied to Concrete_Potato's topic in General Discussion
IJN DDs have been nerfed and powercreeped like hell, but surprisingly I'm having quite some fun in them since I came back to grinding them. Going through the Kagerou felt like a blink and the Yugumo is also performing very nicely (and the majority of those games were played solo, since they work better played a bit more independently than as backup for other division ships). Takes more experience to make them work, but they can still be a real threat with their devastating torps if you know how and where to put them. That is something that you might need to work on. Will definately not play the Shimakaze with the 20km torps though, so until WG gets rid of those floating turds I don't think I'll even bother buying her. -
