    There is your answer. If you find yourself not surviving the opening stages of a game somewhat consistently, then you're putting yourself into the wrong positions. Maybe you're too aggressive, or you fail to properly account for the enemy opposition (better DDs, radar ships, CVs scouting you). Obviously you can't do much damage once you're sunk. Provided you know how to consistently land your attacks (torpedoes and/or gunboating), surviving for longer should fairly easily see you to pass the damage threshold set by the emblem requirements. If you're already averaging 27k damage when you die very early in a noticable amount of games, getting the additional 6k damage difference shouldn't prove to be much of a problem once you dealt with the early sinking. ___ And I just took a glance at your profile to see that the only DDs you have that are eligible for getting the emblem are the Kiev (which you seem to have skipped with free XP) and the Tashkent. Without knowing much more exactly how you play, if you end up getting sunk early in those ships, I suspect you're pushing too close to the enemy (and probably relying too much on smoke). As a tip, try playing those ships more like you would play a cruiser. Rather than be the first to rush to caps, support the other DDs from a small distance apart. Let him spot ahead for you so you don't run into nasty surprises. With your guns (and with 42% hitrate I can assume you know how to hit with them), help your fellow DDs out by shooting the enemy ones. Engage enemy cruisers and battleships at the edge of your range (where you can still comfortable hit them, but have enough time to react to incoming shells to dodge). You should really only attempt to get caps if there's no DD that could spot you (since they WILL spot you a lot sooner than you spot them) and even then only if there's no other ship you could pepper with your HE shells (or if you're on too low health to do so in relative safety). Basically russian gunboats only ever cap if either they, or the enemy is doing something really, really wrong.

I find it hilarious though how that douchecanoe is so transparently attention seeking. What a sad, sad person that must be to be that desperate for attention.

    Don't know the HP values for the AA mounts, but I believe with the auxillary armament mod.1 they become somewhat resilient. Iirc Flamu used it in one of his AA test on a ship (not sure which one though, maybe the Kii) and I do remember he was quite surprised at how little AA he had lost after the first couple divebomber attacks (barely lost any mid- and shortrange mounts). Probably doesn't help much against sustained HE rain throughout the game. But the secondaries are pretty tough to knock out with the mod. Used it on my grind with the Bismarck and barely ever had secondaries lost. Didn't compare it without using the mod though, so take it with a pinch of salt.

    Preventive Maintenence only effects modules that can be disabled (i.e.: main guns and torpedo launchers). It doesn't help secondaries (or AA mounts).To enhance their survivability you need to use the Auxillary Armaments mod.1. Can't say how strong the AA on the Alsace is from the top of my head (though I know she's plenty strong). Even without buffing the AA she'd be an undesirable target for CVs, but I reckon if you use BFT in addition to AFT, the AA would be pretty nasty (though not as good as AFT and Manual AA). That aside, no BB really manages to maintain a no-fly-zone territory. Even my AA specced US BBs (AFT and Manual AA) can only rely on their DP secondaries in the latter half of a match (due to the HE spam knocking out most mid- and shortrange mounts) and whilst that's still 300+ AA dps at longrange, any CV that really wants you can still drop, he just has to be willing to sacrifice some aircraft in the process.

    Huh, just checked and you're correct. Apparently only the 128mm and 150mm get the 1/4 HE pen exception (which makes no bloody sense because those calibers need it the least compared to the 88mm/105mm caliber secondaries ... what the hell WG?). Well, still makes sense for the Scharnhorst (if she gets to be toptier, but at tier VII that's more often than not anyway). Aww man, that means I actually have to grind to the GK to make full use of that IFHE secondary build ... guess that ain't happening now.

    Pretty sure that a FR BB secondary build works best without IFHE and go for DE instead to maximize your fire starting chance (that's what the french secondaries are really good at with their base fire chance and the RoF). On the Alsace IFHE would help for the 100mm calibers doing direct damage at least to DDs, but outside that only the 152mm would dmage anything in the tier IX spread. Whereas with going for DE, the increased fire chance works against everything. So I'd go for this build (19 points): Priority Target Adrenaline Rush Super Intendant Manual Secondaries Advanced Firing Training Demolition Expert Expert Marksman For a secondary build that deals direct damage, you'd have to go for the KM BBs (again, 19 points): Priority Target Adrenaline Rush Super Intendant Manual Secondaries IFHE Advanced Firing Training Preventive Maintenance Both builds forego Concealment Expert. For one, to make the builds work you have to spent the captain points elsewhere and secondly those are pure lolbuilds for that time you just want to go for shits'n'giggles, so I obviously recommend a normal captain build for slightly more serious gameplay. If you want to go full ham, you can skip SI and the additional heal it brings and go for Basic Firing Training to boost the secondary RoF some more. I'm actually just waiting for clanwars to end and the ensuing free captain respec (I'm of course assuming there will be one, as I need to respec a couple 19 point captains that I used in clanwars, aswell as spec my ships back to randoms setups) and will spec my current 19 pointer on my KM BBs for the IFHE secondary build. I'm not grinding the line anymore (kinda grew bored of hightier BB gameplay) so I'll just have some fun with it.
  8. Radar (and hydro acoustic search) work by increasing the range of assured detection. Within that range, anything gets spotted, no matter what visual obstruction or whatnot. Smoke, island ... doesn't matter. WG hasn't coded a specific spotting mechanic that is slaved to line-of-sight bot also capable of penetrating soft visual obstructions like smoke. Probably because the game engine itself doesn't differentiate between a solid island or a smoke screen as far as visual obstructions are concerned.

    Considering how easy it is to farm Arsonists to get the India X-Ray signal flags and how hard it is to farm Die Hards I'd very much prefer the ramming signal flags. They're also surprisingly useful in clan wars, so having a stash of those is actually pretty handy.
  10. Finally, a game where all the lemmings were on the enemy side: Shoot me like one of your french girls! Oh my, I adore the Henry IV., that ship et trés bon, oui. The AP is downright nasty, the HE (especially with an IFHE captain ) deals consistent and good damage, plus setting fires. The ship's armour is trollish, it's reasonably fast (and with speedboost just o-hon hon hon!), has solid AA though it has poor concealment.

    When MM puts all the lemmings on your team and three quarters of your team just leisurely cruise around the outer layer. Meanwhile, I ambush a Neptune, solo a Moskva in my HIV, chip away at the various battleships and in the end even rushed two enemy BBs, one North Carolina that I was so close to on my drive-by that I had to wait to drop my then reloaded torps because I was too close and right after an enemy Tirpitz with the other set (didn't survive the Tirpitz, but at that point it didn't matter, we had long since lost the match anyway. Oh, and of course I get reported after the match.

    Scrubs on page 2? Let me work my magic for a bit ... Speaking of magic, @havaduck might want to check out the stories of this fanfiction author I'm not into the MLP fandom (as is known) but I've read another story of his (the Mass Effect/XCOM fusion fic) and it's damn good, so if the writing quality is the same with his MLP fics you should be in for a treat.
  15. My back hurts ... That moment when you're in a bottom tier Warspite which does 23,5 knots (and that topspeed only if you throw it off a cliff), yet a toptier Bismarck which can do 32 knots is still constantly behind you. Nevermind the Gneisenau which is yet again a tiny bit faster and is consistently waaaaaayyyyy behind you. I mean, those ships can do roughly 10 knots faster than me. In the case of the Bismarck, she's also vastly better armoured ... but for some reason they couldn't find their brave pills and pass me to take the point as they ought to do as higher tier ships. Naw, let the bottom tier lead the charge instead! Well, joke is on you, I got all the juicy targets. Along with @Reaper_JackGBR who (unsurprisingly) did his job in a DD and scouted out ahead (a bit too far ahead at one point of the game, almost had a fatal case of surprise Fiji as consequence before he doubled back and I handled that issue for him. He had a nifty game aswell, with 115k damage in his Aigle. And a bit later I had to crack another nut: My poor Chung Mu is cursed. CVs in every damn game I play with her. More often than not, I get the worse one on my side. Not this time and oh boy would we have lost hadn't our Taiho done his job in trying to keep the enemy aircraft away from us DDs (though that was soon just me the DD), so he got a compliment out of it. Still had to contest mid against multiple incursions, juggling radar distances from two different directions, then engage the two enemy DDs, then bumrush a mostly healthy Richelieu get clear the center of the map, THEN avoid the enemy Taiho's crossdrop ... until finally things calmed down enough for me to take a breath again. Results speak for themselves.

    RPF in cruisers

    Only cruiser line I use RPF on its captain is the RN CLs. It's pretty useful in keeping track of unspotted DDs and more importantly gives a good idea how to angle in smoke against potentional torpedo carpets. Hydro does a good job not getting surprised by torpedoes, but it might still force you to abandon your smoke to avoid getting hit by the torps if you got caught broadside on ... which at least in my case is the purpose of such smoke torps against RN CLs, I know they have hydro and it's unlikely to nuke them in smoke, but works amazing in getting them out in the open and have someone else nuke them for me.

    One way to know would be doing the math after checking out how much HP you lost in that hit. If you know the damage potential of the ship that shot you and were aware of how many shells hit you, it's typically straightforward. That of course assumes you've seen the salvo that hit you coming. For hits that came out of the blue it's more of a guessing game with the detailed damage report after the game has ended when you check how much damage a specific ship did to you. You can check how many hits he landed on you and then do the math again. If you were aware of that ship hitting you outside of the potentionally citadeling salvo, you can just substract the hits and damage values for the math and get a pretty good guess if he citadeled you or not. Alternatively, if you recieved a huuuge, smashing hit ... just ask in all-chat "how many citadels did you get on me?". People typically like to brag about huge hits so chances aren't bad he's just going to outright tell you "three citadels bro :P" or some such. I don't think it gets more accurate than that unless there's a mod registers damage per hit in realtime for you to crossreference with ship damage potentials.

    As someone using the dark theme (much easier on the eyes than the classic or white theme), I did have trouble reading posts that came with non-default text colouring (such as copy&pasta reddit posts) and text in embedded links from other websites (like Facebook). Pretty sure the latter isn't solved with this however, so your webteam might want to look into this.

    Well, s/he says s/he's a DD player. Yup. It only makes a slight difference for people who already know what they do and only really helps in a specific situation. I wouldn't say it's an unfair advantage. It is an advantage, but not a particularily big one. It does conflict with the stated modification rules though, so it shouldn't be allowed on that reason alone. As it currently stands, it kind of flaunts the rules or provides a grey area, neither of which are desirable.

    It clearly fulfills the criteria as they're outlined in the mod rules as an additional aiming help and as such shouldn't be allowed. Having a clear crossreference with the minimap when free aiming is something players without the mod don't have.

    For DDs, 2km is a whole lot. Besides I consider the RU 11,7km radar long range, the US 9-10km radar midrange (their longer duration is more of a threat than their range) and anything lower than 9km short range.

    Funny, I also play a lot of destroyers and I still think 8,5km radar is short. At tier IX/X, the caps in domination mode are large enough for 8,5km radar not covering most zones entirely, so it's rather easy to avoid. And in the open water you'd be spotting the Salem loooong before she gets into radar range. So yeah, short range it is.
