It's not a question of what, but who! Short of killing the entire enemy team by yourself within the allotted 20 minutes match time, there's always the chance that the other 11 players on your team are decreasing the chance of victory through inept decisions, etc. pp.. I've seen randoms throw games that were more or less guaranteed victories save for a very specific kind of mistake and they unerringly managed to do exactly that to throw the game away. Doesn't need to, but I'm just illustrating the point here. The single most deciding factor in any teambased PvP is teamplay. Rather than ask for the best ship to play with, ask for the best players to coordinate with. A DD capping is good. A DD capping and spotting for others is better. A cruiser supporting the DD against enemy DDs is yet better still. A DD smoking up the cruiser, then capping and spotting whilst the smoked cruiser can support the DD in relative safety is much better. A BB also supporting the DD and cruiser and keeping enemy cruisers from effectively supporting their team is sooooo much better still. You want to carry games? Find the players that can coordinate and work together.

How am I getting detected in smoke without shooting?

Aside from hydro, the higher tiers get an additional consumable that can spot you in smoke and/or behind islands: surveillance radar. Found on regular ships at tier VIII on the US and RU cruisers (so New Orleans/Chapayev upwards) and on some tier VII premium ships (Atlanta, Indianapolis and Belfast). RN CLs can also opt to use radar instead of smoke from tier VIII onwards, same as the PA DDs (though theirs is short ranged). US radar is typically medium range but longer duration (9km at tier VIII with 25 seconds duration, 9,5km at tier IX with 35 seconds duration and 10km at tier X with 40 seconds duration), whereas the RU radar has longer range (11,7km at all tiers) but shorter duration (iirc 15 seconds at tier VIII, 20 seconds at tier IX and 25 seconds at tier X ... I could be wrong on the tier VIII and IX duration, been a while since I played those). RN radar is the same as US. PA radar is short range and duration (don't know the numbers from the top of my head). Aside from those ships, there's also the tier VII premium ships I mentioned (8,5km range and 25 seconds duration on Atlanta and Belfast, 10km range and 25 seconds on Indianapolis) and the premium Missouri at tier IX also gets radar (normal US tier IX radar). Oh and the Black, premium tier IX US DD, also short ranged, short duration (don't know the exact numbers). edit:// Ninja'd by Allied_Winter ... -
It's back to normal yes. Sadly the normal state as it has been so far is still in very much dire need of fixing.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Oh, just you wait until you get the Henry IV.. That thing is just hon-hon-hon: Now onto my stuff, specifically gloriously Stalinium, da! Tovarish potato show broadside, go Gulag! Finally I seem to have understood how to play the Moskva and now that I can get her to work, I'm very much liking her. The ships is still deceptively tanky with deceptively being the operating word, for some reason I keep taking damage from shots that I swear I'd bounce, but incoming shells where I'm thinking "oh crap" just plink harmlessly off the ship with hardly a scratch to my paintjob ... 'tis odd. Still having trouble correctly leading DDs for some reason (have to check if the Moskva's HE shells have significantly worse weight/drag, because I keep missing shots that I swear I'd hit if I had shot AP instead of HE). But damn, woe be upon cruisers or battleships showing me their sides. And because I've seen so many Minotaurs lately, I remembered I barely played mine in a while, so off with the dust, put on some fresh paint and heave-ho: Pinged our Gearing for a smokescreen, he responded (!) and popped one for me to use (!!!) ... broadsides, om nom nom <3 Also got to munch on the enemy Minotaur in the closing minute of the game. He didn't believe in angling. -
Svietlana is also a candidate with its rearmounted torpedoes with their incredibly forward firing clearance.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

Had the pleasure of getting @Kann_Nix_Extreme in his Flint and a mate of his in Scharnhorst on the same team as I was getting my daily in the Giulio. Was a good thing too, because I'm not sure I could've stalled the enemy lemmingtrain without at least some help. -
Maybe the system automatically detects if someone enjoys CoOp and instead forces them to play Ranked?
-
As long as salty douchecanoes can't force people to play CoOp via false reports, it should be a good thing. If people can abuse the system however, it's going to sink faster than the Lusitania.

This. This! THIS!!! Seasonic makes very good PSU and 7 years warranty is neat. You can also check out Corsair which are also of pretty high quality (a good chunk of their PSU's are build by Seasonic) and afaik come with 10 years warranty. EVGA also makes solid PSU, also comes with 10 years warranty afaik. At the very least you want an efficiency rating of Bronze (80+% efficiency rating at typical power draw levels), but if you can score a good price for a higher efficiency rating, go for it. You can skimp a bit on wattage if you want to keep the costs low since your system shouldn't draw more than 500W (if even that, more like 400W, but it's good to have a bit headroom) even under full load. Only go for a higher wattage PSU if you absolutely, positively know that you're going to use the same PSU in a later upgraded build that will need more power. Nothing hurts me more than seeing a system that draws 500W at the most strapped to a 1000W PSU because people were told "moar powah". I'd also recommend going for 8GB RAM at least. RAM is pretty expensive these days though, so it's going to hurt your wallent. On another note, you optimally want two RAM modules, not one. The CPU you listed communicates with RAM via dual-channel, which means with two RAM modules you double your memory bandwidth (for example 2x4GB would result in a more responsive system than 1x8GB in a dual-channel system). Do note that your processor already comes with an integrated GPU (roughly equivalent to a GT 1030 or RX 550 in performance (also dependant on your memory configuration though)). edit:// Sweet Jesus you just made me scour my usual tech outlets looking for prices for half an hour ...

Still not worth going for the ones I named in the beginning. Payload may get through for the most part, but you'll lose plenty aircraft on the run if all/most of their AA is intact. And Ryujou doesn't have that much reserves that she can just throw its aircraft away at the start.
-
This isn't even bad MM for a Ryujou. Only No-Fly-Zone AA are the Atlanta (duh), Myoukou, Gneisenau and Lyon (if B hull). Queen Elizabeth longrage AA is also nasty. Excluding the CV from the equation, that's still half the enemy team he can essentially strike with impunity. And the aforementioned strong AA BBs get softer the longer the game goes due to HE spam so by the time the easy targets are gone one can start striking those when they're isolated enough. And this is coming from me and I barely play CVs at all ... So yeah, permanent ban for idiots like that are well deserved. He's clearly not interested in actually playing the game anyway so WG would only need meet him halfway.

Also, not counting catapult aircraft from non-CV ships. Between the usual five BBs and the couple cruisers with their catapult spotter/fighter aircraft, the amount of catapult aircraft in a game can be positively absurd. The game might also want to consider any enemy aircraft reserves a ship had at the time of being sunk by you as aircraft kills for the tally (not give XP and credits for it, but put them up as a hidden bonus towards the aircraft killcount). -
Tier V, VI and VIII MM are tough spots on the EU server and get uptiered a lot. However WG has stated they won't do away with the +/- 2 MM. That said, if you simply adjust your playstyle to account for the fact that you're the small fish in the pond, it's not terribly hard to do well even when bottom tiered. The german tier VI cruiser in particular is probably the single least effected ship when bottom tiered due to its good range, ballistics and amazing HE pen. Plus with the general lack of armour it doesn't even matter much if it's a tier VIII or a tier V ship shooting at you, they citadel you all the same.

It's the same as with speaking Drunk. You stick around long enough with the right (some may say: wrong) crowd and you just pick it up along the way.

Silly capitalist. Soviet Navy no get aircraft carriers. Soviet Navy gets ballistic submarines, da. Red Banner Northern Fleet no use MiG 15, R-39 Rif more effective and submarine better stealth, tovarish. -
No simple formula. I'm not even sure if the penetration formula that WG uses is completely known at this point, but afaik they very try to keep very closely to the real life penetration capabilities of known AP shells. Thus the closest you could get to getting raw epentration numbers would be using the USN empirical formula for armour penetration by Garzke and Dulin. Not quite suited for easy reference. You can also reference this for specific ships' penetration curves. Afaik the user also used the aforementioned formula and cross-referenced it with the known armour penetration values (as they get dropped by the devs in the armada videos).

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy

Why are Typhoon and Hurricane seperate leagues anyway? They're both names for the same thing! Anyhow, good job guys. I'll have to work on Wednesday, so next Thursday is the next time I can help if it's needed! Not going to bother tonight since I just came from work and am a bit exhausted (everyone is jittery as hell because we got a control coming next wednesday (which is also why I have to work that day)).- 3,079 replies

I wonder, at what point does an enemy stop outplaying you and you start outplaying yourself?
-
Smoke firing detectability is much lower at 6km. Division up with a DD that can provide smoke and spotting and violá. Outside of that force composition however, the preliminary stats don't look particularily impressive and a radar Minotaur would be just as good if not better under the same base assumption ... the only advantages the current Worchester would have is HE and better AA (but a Minotaur is already plenty enough AA for most occasions).
-
So, I take it WG has doubled back on their idea of giving the tier IX and X seperate consumable slots for hydro, radar and DFAA each. Range seems a tad anemic for tier X, even the Minotaur has nearly 1km better range nevermind the smoke to fall back to. Ruddershift also not looking too great for a CL with such short range, considering that evasion tanking is going to be the name of the game (even sitting behind islands and lobbing shells over them isn't going to help much with the huge high tier maps with only 14,7km range). Unless they also get a black magic heal like the hightier RN CLs, I don't see how those stats would make it through to the final ship.
