To check the crash log for clues: Open your Event Viewer, open the first filter and check the logs for critical errors (you might have to maximize the window to actually be able to read the log, because the window is bloody tiny and cramped).

Unless you absolutely want Shadowplay, just uninstall GeForce Experience. I've personally had nothing but trouble with that (though for other reasons). I recommend using Display Driver Uninstaller to uninstall drivers before installing the new ones. Even when ticking clean installation during the GeForce drivers setup, they don't always get rid of all the files and that can pile up, causing problems.

Leaked Images For Two New IJN Destroyers!

Many Bothans died to bring us this information. Don't be so callous about their sacrifice! -
Just to make sure, you were running WoWs with the same setup before and it worked, right? The mainboard beeping is typically an indication of a hardware problem though. Since other games are running fine though it shouldn't be something drastic like GPU overheating or something like that. Do you have a monitor with integrated speakers per chance? Maybe that beep you get at game launch isn't the mainboard signaling a hardware issue but the monitor acting up (check the cable connection and/or power down the PC, then plug the monitor from everything, let it rest for a couple minutes to let its internal chipset reset/powercycle and then plug it back in, that can help fix the occasional glitch). If that doesn't work, the easiest way to troubleshoot potential GPU problems would be to do a clean driver install (use DDU to make sure to get rid of all old drivers) to make sure no corrupted drivers are causing the issue (if you updated any software whilst doing the clean-up, that's a good idea to do for anything you've changed). You mentioned overclocking as something you're not familiar with, so did your GPU perchance came with a factory overclock? If so you must've installed a program that also came with an OC profile. Could be that profile got corrupted. If you still have the installation disc for the GPU drivers as they came, you could try reinstalling those. Some overclocked GPUs come with a modified BIOS and if that's acting up it can cause issues like black screens, in that case you could look for a BIOS update. Some GPUs come with a physical BIOS switch on the AIB itself, maybe you accidentally switched that as you cleaned your PC (though I somehow doubt an entry-level GPU would have something fancy like that). Alternatively you can completely uninstall the GPU Tweak and let the GPU run on stock frequency. If that also doesn't work, check the game integrity (you can do that via the game launcher). It's also possible that the game is acting up due to graphics settings. First thing I'd try is deleting your preferences.xml file on your WoWs directory, then start the game. It should launch the game with the default settings so if any funky graphic settings were causing the blackscreen, that could help. If the black screen comes back after reinstating your old settings, just delete the file again and file a ticket with Support for help. As a last resort you can also to a complete reinstall of the game itself (if you're certain that it's the game acting up and not your PC). If THAT doesn't help, I'm out of ideas.

Because the "game" part is the operative word, not the "war". The game is meant to be entertaining and insults are hardly conductive of such (though you're free to trade friendly barbs and banter, a good friendly trashtalk is half the fun in PvP games).

Guys, guys, let him have the satisfaction. With ~250 games he's still a newbie and with 15 posts also a forum freshman. Ease him in nicely. Though in the future you should post such in the existing forum thread that Seeteufel linked (and in general check if what you want to post/ask has been posted/asked already ... typically you should skim the first three forum pages of the appropriate subsection to avoid blatant duplicate threads).

860m is good. Too deep for scrounging operations to get at the low-background steel.

CCT Summit 2018: Some juicy news from St. Petersburg
Aotearas replied to Hayashio's topic in General Discussion
Did they elaborate on the ballistics change? All I'm seeing is that one presentation slide and that's not much use barring preliminary speculation without a bit more information. -
Don't think we know enough to really discuss this. Could be that it only applies for overmatching scenarios and as such would be a straight forward effect to migitate damage to DDs by battleship caliber AP. For larger ships it shouldn't change too much since those have multiple layers of armour that can trigger the fuze (though it would still be an effective damage nerf for battleship caliber AP to non-citadel hit zones on cruisers). Battleships on the recieving end shouldn't see much of a difference at all. If that were all there is to the change, I'd say it's a welcome survivability improvement for non-BB classes and for fighting DDs in particular HE would finally be the superiour ammunition chance again, no more massive AP damage unless you hit a LOT of overpens which is how it should be. Only problem I'm seeing would be the AP damage on superstructures and even then it's mostly a RN CL problem since against an angled ship, the superstructure is the only thing those can target and lowered fuze time means nothing if the fuze doesn't arm ... which also makes me pretty certain there's more depth to that ballistics change than what we can surmise from that single powerpoint page.

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Aotearas replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Question is for how long one has to to be AFK for the system to kick in. On one hand, random DCs are a thing when the servers or if the player's internet connection are acting up. The former should be relatively to filter out, the latter however ... but if the threshold is too forgiving to reduce the number of false positives, then a large number of ragequitters would go scotfree. Next problem is can the system differentiate people being factually AFK (left the match) from those kinds of griefers that just sail to the farthest mapcorner and hide there for the rest of the match? Those would technically still be in the game ... wouldn't be much different from pressing a button every once in a while to prevent automatic AFK kicks (as are common in other online games). The latter type of players are arguable the worst since they're pulling that kind of crap on purpose to screw with the people on their team. Even an AFK or ragequitter is more likely to be useful by providing an attractive target for the enemy to shoot at once spotted which can be a welcome reprise for others, but even that fringe benefit is denied by such mapcorner huggers. -
DON'T TELL THEM OUR PLAN!!!!
-
Maybe if you shoot your guns backwards the recoil will help accelerating.
-
HMS Dreadnought is being asked for since aeons already, but WG has been surprisingly non-committal. Afaik there's no plans for her, or at least I don't remember WG ever saying anything about her making it into WoWs.
-
Can't say it's noticably worse than before. Chat in PvP multiplayers is always filled with salt and WoWs was smackdab in the ballpark for that (not particularily bad or tame either way, though with notably fewer haccusation than in other PvP online games I played).

Leaked Images For Two New IJN Destroyers!
Aotearas replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
Kitakaze looks like one version of the Super-Akizuki. So expect the same flavour, just a bit faster and more shortrange AA. The papership tier X though is something I'm wary about. 5x2 100mm guns sounds nice, but I fear the size of the ship necessary for that is going to really screw with the detectability. And considering the whole shtick of the Akizuki is being a DD hunter-killer with competitive concealment, if it ends up getting subpar detectability values all that precious main battery dpm isn't going to find much application. Personally I would've preferred to bump the Akizuki to tier IX (she really is tier IX material, that dpm will shred even Gearings, etc. ... all she needs is a slight bump for her softstats, maybe give her the option to choose between DFAA and TRB and violá) and then have the Super-Akizuki at tier X. Tier VIII could've been replaced with another more standard'y IJN DD (of which there's plenty around without having to get esoteric with paper designs). So overall I'm a bit sceptical. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Aotearas replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Just met @Accelerated and two of his mates on the opposite team .. twice in a row. Both times I was blessed with a team that couldn't find their own arse if they had instructions for that. Went about as one would expect. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Aotearas replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy ... Dat MM. I'll give you a minute to look that over, I'm sure you'll see why I wasn't particularily pleased with that MM and sarcastically commented on it at the start of the game: Naturally I instantly got ranted at for "whining" (and of course it was someone from the enemy team in a ship that doesn't care about that particular mechanic, go figure ...). Well, if you want to call sarcastically stating the obvious as whining, be my guest. Thankfully whining isn't the only thing I'm good at, I also happen to be pretty decent at winning. Dealt with it like a man good enough I think, though it was a close call in the end and major kudos to the Hindenburg and Des Moines who did the right thing and charged to defend B when it was needed at the very end to save our miniscule points lead (just ~10 points lead prior to sinking the Missouri in the defense of B at the last seconds before the time ran out). Later is was time for some BBQ: Nya Ha Ha Ha!!! New damage record for me (though it really only barely ecclipsed my previous one, so far the enemy isn't feeding themselves to me cooperatively enough to break the 300k threshold). Gameplay was more or less standard Zao fare, but the results are pretty neat. And my last game of the day: That cap was mine and no one will take it from me! It's mine, my treasure, my preciousss~ Start was a bit underwhelming with a Kagerou instantly smoking and running after spotting a Gearing, despite the fact he can outspot the latter by 500m and having a Minotaur not even 3km away from him. When I told him I could've killed the Gearing had he spotted it, only response was a dismissive "Witzbold" (roughly translates to Joker/Jester). Well, not my problem ... why the same Kagerou later decided to put on his manpants and try to rush a Hindenburg when it was in a position behind an island where I decidedly could NOT help is beyond me, joke's on him though. I got the Hindenburg after it pushed out and proceeded to make myself comfortable in the cap. A couple BBs tried to invade, but I politely asked them to vacate the premises and even though they insisted for some time I managed to drive them off my lawn. -
Why not use the emblem system to promote "play the objective"
Aotearas replied to hgbn_dk's topic in General Discussion
I would very much like if there were PTFO emblems. Capturing objectives, defending objectives and tanking (potential) damage are obvious ones that come to mind and which should be pretty easy to track (though obviously some ships would be better geared for some than others). Not sure about spotting because the current way of tracking that stat is effectively pointless due to the system restrictions. -
Probably a nasty grey area as it's not a definitive advantage over someone who simply knows where the ship citadels are and what his guns can penetrate, both people would be aiming for roughly the same spot and if we include dispersion RNG, the difference should be negligible. I would argue though that the intent behind such a modification isn't in the spirit of fairplay and thus such a modification should be considered illegal. Also I believe that this kind modification had already attracted WG's attention a while back, though I can't recall if they made an official statement about that specifically.

If you want to know where a ship's torpedo-protection is, look at the armour profile and the bulging parts midships (which would be the torpedo bulge). The torpedo-protection doesn't go around the whole ship but is concentrated midships. If you have a ship with good torpedo-protection, there's where you'd like the torpedo to hit. On ships with poor torpedo-protection (or none at all) you want to exploit the damage saturation mechanic and take it on the bow or aft ends (as those sections saturate quickly). You're almost guaranteed to get a flooding if you catch a bow on those extremeties though, so keep that in mind.

Well, the person in question is just one (unless it was a shared account), whereas "they" is typically used for plurals.

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy
Aotearas replied to Loran_Battle's topic in Clan Recruitment
Meh, the original version is much better imo, the cover is just painfully obvious in its attempt to match the vocals with something that makes sense in English. Also, you just opened the floodgates for anime OST: That should do for a start.- 3,079 replies

How about we decide that over a duel at New Dawn?

You guys can fight over his premium ships, I'll just take all signal flags and special modification upgrades s/he had.
