Ah damnit ... and I had just started to train up an AA captain mostly to be used on the premium RN BBs like the Hood, DoY and Nelson. That plan went straight down the shitter now that I get an actual Hood captain which I'll have to train up again, OBVIOUSLY.

I believe this little piece of information has really been overlooked when I looked over the Youtube comments and the posts on this thread. The implied change from fixed Ranked and Clan War rewards for particular milestones and ostensibly the ability to use ressources gaining in either Ranked or Clan Battles to acquire rewards associated with the other is a pretty huge deal. Especially for people that enjoy one mode over the other. I for myself can barely stand Ranked and quickly grew frustrated whenever I tried (for various reasons, but let's say a teammate torpedoing my DD contesting the cap from second line and taking 90% of my HP out without enemy interference is one particularily big and compelling reason not to bother), though I'd obviously like to have the rewards even though I don't think the rewards are worth sludging through the frustration. Being able to grind out the necessary ressources in a game mode that I can actually enjoy, a.k.a. Clan Wars is very much welcome and probably that one extra motivation I needed to really commit to it (the future globalization of Clan Wars will likely also help in the schedule department). And just like @Live85, I very much have the same question: what about the Oil? Will it be replaced by the new Steel/Coal ressources or will it get integrated? Will people get Steel/Coal depending on how much Oil they have when they get introduced? Can people exchange Oil for those ressources? Will clans be able to get benefits uniquely associated with Steel/Coal as opposed to Oil (special clan base buildings constructed with Steel/Coal)? There's so many questions that are begging for answers @Sub_Octavian.

Divs should only allow same-tier ships
Aotearas replied to FishDogFoodShack's topic in General Discussion
A faildivisioning ship de facto ending up in a +3 MM game is in the vast majority of cases a straight-up disadvantage, no matter how you spin it. Even if the player is good enough to make it work, doing the same in a ship one tier higher would typically result in better performance. My main gripe with faildivisions isn't that it can't work (the fact it can work is half as much infuriating because people get stupid ideas and then can't make it work ...), it's the simply fact that it enables ignorance to run rampant. Many faildivisions, particularily in the low and midtier bracket are probably caused by players simply not knowing how MM handles different ship tiers in a division. Those players might not even be aware of the dilemma and as long as faildivisions are allowed, at the very least that part of the playerbase WILL continue faildivisioning ... and you can take a guess at how competent those players tend to be if they don't even know they're faildivisioning. -

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy
Aotearas replied to Loran_Battle's topic in Clan Recruitment
Alright guys, a little word on spreading our influence: Posting on other clans' recruitment threads for the occasional bump is a nice thing to do (even when we're being Scrub'ish about it in the process, consider that our service fee) and I haven't yet heard anyone complaining about it. But please keep it to the occasional bump. We want to give a helping hand to fellow clan-buds with whom we're on good terms and whom we know can take our kind of jokes (and give some back). Starting conversations and/or discussions unrelated to their clan however is a BIG No-No. We're bumping, not spamming. Don't be spammers! That said, today is my birthday, so if you have any pent-up energy, you can go have a go at me for today- 3,079 replies

Just met @SeaSickOllie, bit of a missed opportunity but my torps were needed elsewhere ... next time! Also, apparently you're a content manager, eh? If I ask real nice, could you manage to change my container content to premium ships?

Poor Monarch. Not even in AL is a tier VIII save from getting uptiered. -
How about no? First of all, gameplay > realism. ESPECIALLY if the proposed change hits a ship class unprportionally harder than others. Ships already carried enough ammunition IRL to last for the typical WoWs slugging match. The only ships that would be limited (and SEVERELY so) would be DDs with their torpedo armament. Quite a onesided change and nothing short of a massive nerf to any DD that relies on its torpedoes to do its work.

Personally I got the Grozovoi as a lulbote, completely set up for AA. If someone wants to div up in a CV, that's the boat I bring along Other than that though, the Grozovoi is an excellent support DD. Not that great at brawling due to its size and propensity of catching regular AP pens, but as a DD that's following a close behind another DD better suited for contesting caps, it's amazing. The guns are, well, russian 130mm Stalinium railguns. You're going to have no trouble supporting an allied DD from second line. And once the enemy lines have been thinned a bit, with its decent concealment you can play it more aggressively and use its good concealment (so much better than the Udaloi's) to do more classic DD work. The torpedoes are also not too shabby (though unless you go for torpedo-reload upgrades and/or skills they have an abysmal reload). There most definately is a reason why you don't hear much about the Grozovoi, because it doesn't really excels at anything other than AA (and that is a rather insular talent ...) and having amazing ballistics. For cap contesting, the Z-52 is still the king. For a hybrid-brawler and teamplay, the Gearing takes the cake. Gunboating, that's the Khabarovsk. All-purpose torpedoboating, Shimakaze. Cruiser/Battleship torpedo-hybrid-brawler, Yue Yang.

[SCRUB] The Scrubs - Recruitment thingy

A small heads up: you can grab the game 'Satellite Reign' (Steam) for free over at Humble Bundle. Game looks nice enough, though I haven't played it yet. It's free (for the next 43 hours or as long as their contingent of keys lasts) so go and grab it if you think it's something you can enjoy! It has a CoOp mode too, so if enough enough Scrubs like it we can lick some mega-corporate windows together.- 3,079 replies

In case of doubt, pick the one you haven't played for a while. That's what I had with the Minotaur, hadn't played her in a while as I was grinding up a couple other cruiser lines. Then one day as I was grinding out the cruiser emblem I realized it, took her out and had a lot of fun. That is of course if you haven't gotten a bit tired playing the game itself.

Still leaves premium time or permanently premium ships you might have and are interested in. But yeah, that's not an awfully large selection. Funny thing is apparently such coupons are flying from the shelf being given away at people ingame (supposedly for getting top XP), but I haven't gotten one (and yeah, I get top XP every once in a while ...). Not that I'd use it on anything so I don't mind, just am mildy amused by it.

Does short fuse AP mechanic of RN BBs exist in WoWs?
Aotearas replied to GeneralSavage's topic in General Discussion
Yes you can in general, though you'll still see the odd flimsly tier V cruisers in both those ships.- 16 replies

Aotearas replied to GeneralSavage's topic in General Discussion
It does, but cruiser in the low tiers are notoriously weakly armoured. The Emile Bertin is one of those ships where you're basically guarenteed to overpen unless you hit the citadel or the ships is angled enough for the AP to go through the ship lengthwise far enough to explode inside. Concurrently, I found that sailing perfectly broadside was the safest way for the Emile Bertin, because almost everything that hit would overpen For the low tiers, in the Orion I'd just stick to HE even against cruisers. With its 1/4 HE pen rule, it can citadel almost every cruiser it meets with HE and even if you don't you mess it up good. AP is only worth it on battleships because you won't overpen those. AP gets more reliable at higher tiers when cruisers get more armour (not that it helps much against BB AP unless it autobounces ...).- 16 replies

Aotearas replied to Kancolle_Kongou's topic in Off-Topic
Ye know, I'm a real lazybutt. I'd absolutely play KanColle, if only it was released globally with a proper localized UI. Keep the original voice-acting, I prefer that anyway. Proper large scale voice localization can be done later if deemed profitable enough as long as the UI is localized and there's subtitles abailable. And since I'm already asking for the moon, why not go the full distance: Start with the original vanilla content (though gameplay improvements, fixes, etc. should be transitioned, duh) and then have a staggered release mirroring the release of additional content. Would help newcomers get familiar with the game without being overwhelmed by the content size and enjoy the re-released events and their drops in due order. -

I thought the sekrit method was to be drunk and have the persistence of an alcoholic snapping turtle chewing on passed out Peter the Great. I'm confused now ...

wiped out 2 of his fighters squad he still had a 3rd one with 6 fighters. So maybe check the stats, it was the only carrier in the game. Then he had the the 2/0/3 setup ... note the 0 for the number of TB squadrons.
-
Erm, still no. GZ either has horribly low fighter reserve and TBs, or it has decent'ish fighter reserves WITHOUT any TBs.
-
Erm, no? In the 1/2/1 setup (you've been talking about two TB squadrons after all) GZ has a total of 16 fighters, including your first squadron. So that's one full squadron in reserve plus your starting one. If you have the AS captain skill, it's one full squadron at 9 fighters and only 7 fighters in reserve (not a full refill). I won't bother with the rest of the post.

What is you latest "jinxed" new grinding ship and what do you do about it?
Aotearas replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
How do you try to make it work? During the first half the match french CAs are kiting monsters, then once the enemy ranks have been thinned sufficiently, they can switch to an aggressive role and push with their solid AP and torpedoes. They are just as vulnerable to citadels from battleships as any other cruiser. What many people don't seem to realize is with the speedboost on, those ships have insane acceleration (and pretty damn good deceleration) so the trick to dodging shots isn't turning sharply but varying speed. If I have the enemy at a comfortable range, I typically just go half speed and when someone shoots at me, either go full ahead or full reverse ... throws most people's aim off pretty good. I do recommend using the Steering Gears Mod.1 on every french cruiser (those rudders get disabled a LOT) except the HIV (hardly lose the rudder at all on that ship ... in fact I can't even remember when it happened the last time!). -
